I've enjoyed previous visits to Plata, but unfortunately this experience was disappointing. The service was okay, but the quality of the dishes was not up to the same standard we've experienced in the past. The biggest concern was finding a long hair tangled into the chips at the very bottom of the basket. What was even more concerning was that no one seemed particularly alarmed or concerned about this food safety issue. It made me wonder whether proper hair restraints, such as tying hair back or wearing a hair net in the kitchen, are being followed. I hope this is addressed because food safety should always be a priority. A reminder to everyone: check your food carefully before eating. read more

Had a fantastic dinner at Plata Cocina (Silver Kitchen) this evening. The ambiance was popping positive and the place is quite popular. The lovely hostess sat us in a nice booth and Esteban our server was fantastic. He was assisted by Alexis. We started with chips, salsa and you bet, margaritas. I've eaten here a few times, different times and days and nights to see if this location is consistent on service,cleanliness and most of quality of food, and to day they have excited my expectations of of full service restaurant. A must try if you're in the mood for some delicious Mexican food. The decor in the restaurant is lite in colors that seemed to blend in very well with the atmosphere. The Bar is located right in the middle of the restaurant, so you get a nice view of the interior and the exterior of the location. The Bar is also equipped with a few TVs to add to your dining experience. One of my favorite dishes is the Chicken Enchiladas with their version of rice and beans. Day date success at Plata! My husband and I stopped by for some much needed alone time. It was my first time at this location. We were excited to try it and chose to sit at the bar. Honestly, best decision ever! Lynda was our bartender/server and she absolutely crushed it!!!! Friendly, attentive, professional and full of great recommendations. 10/10 service. We kept things light with drinks and appetizers so we could relax and catch up. Every drink we tried was fantastic: La Niña Fresa, Cucumber Jalapeño and the Plata Margarita. All super refreshing and dangerously good!!!! For food, we ordered the elote mexicano, taquitos de pollo and tacos. Everything was packed with flavor and really hit the spot. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to double up the tortillas on the tacos since they tended to fall apart while eating.... I basically had to use a fork to eat my tacos lol. That said, it didn't take away from how good they were. The al pastor was my favorite, followed by pescado, then carne asada. Overall, such a great experience from service to food and drinks. Nellie was great and attentive with her service even though it was hella busy!!! Ambiance was upbeat and full of life and good vibes! What a beautiful restaurant! My husband and I had dinner here on Monday after spending the weekend in the area. Savanna was our bartender and she was an absolute gem. She really elevated our experience. We had mojitos, along with a taco trio, rice, beans and a chicken quesadilla. I liked the presentation of the quesadilla. The way it was cut made for an easily shareable dish. The tacos were fantastic! We had the carnitas, pescado, and carne asada. All were delicious, but the carne asada stole the show. The meat was marinated to perfection. The chips and salsa were top notch. The chips were seasoned and the salsa was amazing! It wasnt too spicy. The rice and beans were wonderful. Stopped by here for dinner while out on a mini staycation with the wife. I truly enjoyed our Experience here. 5 stars for great tasting food, excellent excellent customer service. The staff was friendly, professional, and polite. However, during our meal, no one checked in to see if everything was to our liking or if we needed anything else. We were seated right away, though there was a bit of a wait before our server arrived. It wasn't excessive, and the same goes for how long the food took to come out. I ordered the Pollo Con Elvia's Mole, one of many entrées on a large menu that covers a wide range of Mexican standard, including entree plates and dedicated sections for tacos and burritos. While there was nothing technically wrong with the dish, it didn't stand out. There was something missing. It had the kind of blandness I often associate with restaurants that try to do too much. Given the $25 price tag, I expected more. In a city with many excellent Mexican restaurants, this one didn't leave a lasting impression. In the end, much like the atmosphere and service, pleasant but unremarkable. My overall experience was fine, but not overly memorable. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants, and I only live a couple minutes away, so I eat here often. I just had a pretty bad experience today, and would normally bring it to the attention of management, but since nobody came by my table for the last 20+ minutes I was there, I couldn't even request to speak with the manager, as I was late for my next appointment as a result. We arrived for lunch (Sunday, before 1pm) and requested a table outside. The restaurant was less than 1/2 full, and outside was the same, but we were told we had to sit inside. No bid deal - I used to wait tables, so I understand how server sections work. After being seated, it was well over 10 minutes before a server came by and asked us if someone was already helping us. Again, not a big deal, but while waiting for our food, we requested more salsa for our chips three times before we actually got any. I actually requested that they bring two bowls of salsa, because I like to have the house salsa with my tacos as well. The food arrived, but still no salsa. By the time they dropped off one bowl of salsa, quite a while later, my tacos were cold. No one checked on us again after that ... at all. We waited around for so long after eating that my family ended up leaving for the car. I waited alone for about another 15 minutes with my credit card sitting on the table the whole time. Eventually, I walked up to the host stand and asked if they could close out my bill. I'm not heartless, so I still left a decent tip, but this was a pretty horrible experience that will make me think twice before coming here to dine again. I'm open to see how management responds here in case that can change my mind. read more

We unfortunately had a bad experience here with my family on my dad's birthday. I ended up contacting a manager a bit after. Although he compensated me with a little gift card, I am unsure if I want to go back to this location. EXPERIENCE: It was around 4:00 on a weekday when my family came here for my dad's birthday. Not too busy, but busy enough. We were there for two hours, a few of our orders were incorrect, the food did not taste great to my family, my mom's dish was so salty it was inedible. We even told the server, but he didn't even offer her a new dish or apologize. My mom loves it at the Agoura restaurant. Mine was pretty darn good. The Quesabirria tacos are delicious! Sadly, the service was horrendous. We had 2 different servers, who were extremely absent and never gave a refill for our drinks in the two hours we were there. My sister's husband had to get up and flag someone down. Honestly, this was a 1 star experience for all 6 people in our family! I am being extremely giving with my 3 star review, because the manager was very kind after I reached out. They come large as well, so a good serving for your money. My husband got the tamarind margarita and I got the house margarita. I wouldn't order the house one again--it was good but just standard. My favorite one of theirs is the strawberry basil margarita. My husband said the tamarind flavor is one of his top 5 margaritas he's had! We both ordered the taco trio. I got carne asada x 3 --it was fantastic!!! The meat quality was top notch, so flavorful. The tortillas are all homemade too. My husband ordered the Alambre, Pescado, and Tinga de Pollo. Celebrated my birthday in the private room at Plata. We pre-ordered a pricey ice cream cake and specifically asked for it to go in the freezer. Two hours later it came out fully melted -- like soup. I've been a fan of Plata Cocina Mexicana for a while now, so I was really glad to see them expand and open a new location at The Oaks Mall. The ambiance is more modern - light and airy with high ceilings and a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Foodwise, a couple of my favorite standout dishes are the Chamorro de Cordero, which is fall-off-the-bone tender and full of flavor, the Pollo con Elvia's Mole, and the Camarones al Gusto. The complimentary, freshly-made chips and salsa always hit the spot too! Service was efficient and friendly, but I was a bit disappointed to see upcharges for basic substitutions, like getting two portions of rice instead of rice and beans for an extra $4, which is little steep for a minor change IMO. Overall, their Agoura Hills location is still my preferred go-to, but this is a solid option when you're at the mall! read more

I've loved the original Plata in Agoura since they opened years ago for their delicious chips and margaritas, and I'm glad to have tried more now at the new location at The Oaks that is a bit closer to me! This location is much larger than the original, and has a great open indoor/outdoor vibe. Love the patio, and the very large wrap-around bar. Great vibes and good service. They have quite a variety of tacos, and they are stuffed to the brim. Definitely a bit messy to eat, but also very delicious. My favorites that I've tried so far are the Pescado and Short Ribs. Unfortunately the Short Ribs aren't on the happy hour menu, but the ones featured on there are all great as well! It's a bit odd to me that the happy hour menus don't show prices and aren't kept on the table or given to you during HH time, but if you ask they'll give it to you, and the prices are good during HH - my friend and I were surprised at the price of the bill after each getting 3 tacos, and me a margarita, her a beer. Date night out and I really didn't want to go out to eat because it seems like the food and service at restaurants have gone downhill lately. Cooking at home has been predictable for sure but with some thought I agreed to go out if it was for Mexican food. So we decided on going to Plata. We went years ago when they first opened and loved it so we decided to give it a another go! We went early (5:00pm) to take advantage of their happy hour and to watch Monday Night Football. We ordered the happy hour beer & margarita (it was huge and strong) and 3 tacos (carne asada, carnitas & al pastor) to begin with. The tacos were $4/each and they were filled with lots of tasty, lean, tender good quality meat. They all were absolutely delicious! We ate that with freshly made and wonderfully seasoned chips with amazing salsa (AND they always replenished it without us even asking!) We did decide to order entrees also (no judging on our eating! The tacos were so delicious we HAD to try other things!) My husband ordered the Tablita and I ordered the Enchiladas De Res. My husband's steak was so tender and again, seasoned perfectly! My enchiladas were filled with braised short ribs which was so TENDER and had a wonderful sauce on the enchiladas. It was also served with a cheesy cauliflower dish which was incredible and also rice. Let me tell you, the cauliflower was worth the trip by itself! WOW! Just WOW! BUT everything we got really was worth the trip. So much food we were even able to bring some home for lunch the next day. The service was over-the-top EXCELLENT!
