    Hair in the food
    Mary E.

I've enjoyed previous visits to Plata, but unfortunately this experience was disappointing. The service was okay, but the quality of the dishes was not up to the same standard we've experienced in the past. The biggest concern was finding a long hair tangled into the chips at the very bottom of the basket. What was even more concerning was that no one seemed particularly alarmed or concerned about this food safety issue. It made me wonder whether proper hair restraints, such as tying hair back or wearing a hair net in the kitchen, are being followed. I hope this is addressed because food safety should always be a priority. A reminder to everyone: check your food carefully before eating.

Had a fantastic dinner at Plata Cocina (Silver Kitchen) this evening. The ambiance was popping positive and the place is quite popular. The lovely hostess sat us in a nice booth and Esteban our server was fantastic. He was assisted by Alexis. We started with chips, salsa and you bet, margaritas. For dinner my wife had the short rib enchiladas and I had the chicken suizas enchilada plate. The food was hot and delicious. The service was excellent and was kind, friendly, efficient and professional. What a great place. Highly recommended

This review is well over do. I've eaten here a few times, different times and days and nights to see if this location is consistent on service, cleanliness and most of quality of food, and to day they have excited my expectations of of full service restaurant. A must try if you're in the mood for some delicious Mexican food. The decor in the restaurant is lite in colors that seemed to blend in very well with the atmosphere. The Bar is located right in the middle of the restaurant, so you get a nice view of the interior and the exterior of the location. The Bar is also equipped with a few TVs to add to your dining experience. One of my favorite dishes is the Chicken Enchiladas with their version of rice and beans. Of course don't forget about the chips and salsa too. A nice blend of taste, green Verde. Salsa. I Recommend this location. Well done!

Day date success at Plata! My husband and I stopped by for some much needed alone time. It was my first time at this location. We were excited to try it and chose to sit at the bar. Honestly, best decision ever! Lynda was our bartender/server and she absolutely crushed it!!!! Friendly, attentive, professional and full of great recommendations. 10/10 service. We kept things light with drinks and appetizers so we could relax and catch up. Every drink we tried was fantastic: La Niña Fresa, Cucumber Jalapeño and the Plata Margarita. All super refreshing and dangerously good!!!! For food, we ordered the elote mexicano, taquitos de pollo and tacos. Everything was packed with flavor and really hit the spot. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to double up the tortillas on the tacos since they tended to fall apart while eating.... I basically had to use a fork to eat my tacos lol. That said, it didn't take away from how good they were. The al pastor was my favorite, followed by pescado, then carne asada. Overall, such a great experience from service to food and drinks. We will definitely be returning!

First time here and very impressed by the quality of food and freshness! Both short rib enchiladas and mile enchiladas were tasty and delicious! Nellie was great and attentive with her service even though it was hella busy!!! Ambiance was upbeat and full of life and good vibes! Guava Margarita was also pretty good, not overly sweet like other places, balanced! Definitely worth the $15! Guac with habanero and mint and mango, sign me up, it was fresh and absolutely delicious! Highly recommend and will be back soon!

~ MODERN MEXICAN DONE SPLENDIDLY ~ Oops, how have I not already written a review?! Plata Cocina Mexicana has been one of my go-to spots for the perfect for date night, happy hour, or a casual family dinner. The vibe is open, airy indoor/outdoor seating, a large wrap-around bar, relaxed upscale-casual, and beautiful colorful decor. Food-wise, everything we tried was delicious! The house-made chips and salsa are are my fav, and the tacos are stuffed to the brim, you have to try the short ribs, though the HH tacos (carne asada, carnitas, al pastor) are all amazing too. Homemade tortillas, tender, flavorful meat, and big servings make every bite a win. Drinks are just as good, large and in charge, strong margaritas (strawberry basil and tamarind are top picks), plus beers on tap for happy hour. The service is excellent, with attentive, friendly staff who anticipate your every need and always have your water cup filled (the cream of the crop for me)!

What a beautiful restaurant! My husband and I had dinner here on Monday after spending the weekend in the area. Savanna was our bartender and she was an absolute gem. She really elevated our experience. We had mojitos, along with a taco trio, rice, beans and a chicken quesadilla. I liked the presentation of the quesadilla. The way it was cut made for an easily shareable dish. The tacos were fantastic! We had the carnitas, pescado, and carne asada. All were delicious, but the carne asada stole the show. The meat was marinated to perfection. The chips and salsa were top notch. The chips were seasoned and the salsa was amazing! It wasnt too spicy. The rice and beans were wonderful. The mojitos were delicious and felt like we were somewhere tropical. We sat at the bar top and had the best date night. We will definitely be back.

Stopped by here for dinner while out on a mini staycation with the wife. I truly enjoyed our Experience here. 5 stars for great tasting food, excellent excellent customer service. We had some shots of tequila to go with our cold beers. Both were great. Prices were fair for the good vibes, quality food and great service. Place was loud but not obnoxiously loud. Lots of people having a great time like we did. Lots of free parking and yes we will come here again and recommend to fellow Yelpers and friends.

Had a great experience here with the late night happy hour. I enjoyed a delicious short rib street taco and margarita. The food was good, fresh and spicy. The margarita was also quite good. Happy hour was a bargain, left happy for under $20. Service was excellent. Though we miss the Red Robin that used to be here, they've made it a nice space with a relaxing environment. So grateful for this option of great food and service at the mall. See website for hours, locations, and more.

Pollo Con Elvia's Mole - Plata Cocina Mexicana - Thousand Oaks
    Mark D.

Lunch (with my pop) at Plata Cocina Mexicana -- Thousand Oaks, CA The restaurant looks quite new and is very clean, comfortable, and stylishly presented. The staff was friendly, professional, and polite. However, during our meal, no one checked in to see if everything was to our liking or if we needed anything else. We were seated right away, though there was a bit of a wait before our server arrived. It wasn't excessive, and the same goes for how long the food took to come out. I ordered the Pollo Con Elvia's Mole, one of many entrées on a large menu that covers a wide range of Mexican standard, including entree plates and dedicated sections for tacos and burritos. While there was nothing technically wrong with the dish, it didn't stand out. There was something missing. It had the kind of blandness I often associate with restaurants that try to do too much. Given the $25 price tag, I expected more. In a city with many excellent Mexican restaurants, this one didn't leave a lasting impression. In the end, much like the atmosphere and service, pleasant but unremarkable. My overall experience was fine, but not overly memorable.

The worst food I have ever had in my life. Our water glasses arrived dirty (see photo), which was a terrible start. Then the carnitas came out with black veins and what looked like cooked blood vessels. It was completely unappetizing and honestly shocking that anyone thought this was acceptable to serve. It was clear no one cared what they were bringing to the table. Never again.

The menu is on a small iPad so you can click on a picture a see what the menu item looks like. I liked this feature so I knew exactly what I was ordering. The flavor of the chicken with the couscous and carrots was great. We would get all of these items again. We ended the meal with the chocolatine dessert. As pescatarians, we found the menu somewhat limited. While the food was competently prepared and attractively presented, it did not justify the final bill of $213.77. The meal began with a complimentary amuse-bouche of burrata cream on watermelon tasting which was elegant and flavorful, but small. For starters, we ordered the Hamachi, Salmon Tartare Tacos, and Smoked Trout Toast. Each dish had an interesting concept, but none stood out. The salmon and tartare were ground so finely that they lacked the texture and freshness we expected. For our entrées, we had the Tomato & Burrata and the Sea Bream. The sauce accompanying the burrata was excellent and was the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the sea bream itself was slightly overcooked. We also tried two non-alcoholic drinks: a hibiscus mocktail and a lychee lemonade. Both were pleasant but unremarkable. For dessert, we ordered the peach galette and the chocolate dessert. They were nicely presented but tasted average. The chocolatine contained croissant bits. Given the restaurant's prices, we expected desserts to be better curated and with memorable flavors. Instead, they reminded us of supermarket-quality desserts. Overall, this is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service, but the food did not live up to either the presentation or the price. We'd consider returning for the atmosphere, but not for the value.
