All the other reviews with low ratings are absolutely correct. The whole "ambiance" of this place is sad. The waiters are sad, the people inside are sad, the food is sad. The waiters/waitress don't pay attention, not attentive, could really care less if you eat with your hands. You have to ask for silverware, more water, & simple service. Sad to say but I'll chose the chain restaurant Olive Garden over this over priced warmed up food. The pasta is not authentic. The people who do say it's good, obviously have not been to great Italian restaurants. Don't waste your money here for you crappy service and depressing food. This review is a little long overdue because I've been here almost a year ago. My husband and I were driving back to Iowa from California and had to stop and get an airbnb in Grand Junction. Our airbnb host recommended we get some pizza in Citrola's because my husband was badly craving for a slice. It's a very nice restaurant and they gave us a great customer service even though we looked extra scruffy from the long drive. Anyway, I got spaghetti & meat balls and my hubby got basic pepperoni pizza. We both rated it 10 out of 10. Great food & service! We ate here a couple years ago while traveling through town. We enjoyed it then and were glad to try eating there again. We were not disappointed! The first night we both had pasta-fettuccine bolognese for me, spaghetti with meatballs for my wife. My wife was satisfied, but both agreed the fettuccine won for the night. Pizza the next night-we liked that as well. My wife had the Caesar salad, very nice. I had the house salad with vinegar and oil. I enjoyed it. Our servers were outstanding, very attentive. All of the food sucked except the pizza. The food is pretty bad...bland, mostly frozen & canned, and overpriced. The pizza was fantastic. These guys would do great if they dropped the ridiculous "Italian cowboy" thing and concentrated on what they do well---the pizza. The fried ravioli was boring, obviously frozen crap. The calamari was tasteless deep fried stuff with a sucky tomato dipping sauce. Bruschetta was okay. The Tuscany soup was lukewarm and in desperate need of some sort of flavor...not much better than tomato water. The tiramisu was a joke. We took it "to go" and actually threw it away at a rest stop. This is a pitifully run restaurant. We, and many others, waited for 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. By that time at least five parties left to go somewhere else. When I finally found the manager I told her the front desk had no one there and people were leaving she said "that is okay". So I told her if that was the attitude we too would leave and we did. Also, the menu prices are 4-5 dollars higher than it shows on the menu on theiir website. Some people like the Olive Garden. Good for them. My first experience at Citrola's tonight was okay. It's as if Olive Garden posed as a local Italian place but doubled the prices of their menu items. Our family (party of 9) likes to try each other's dishes so I got a good idea of the menu. Calamari, bruschetta, and baked ravioli were so-so. The chicken piccata, shrimp scampi, cowboy Mac and cheese, and sausage fettuccini were bland and the pasta overcooked. To be fair, rarely does a restaurant in Grand Junction master an al dente pasta. Surprisingly, the "creamy risotto" in my Italian gumbo was slightly undercooked, not creamy. The tiramisu and cheesecake desserts were made heavy on the salt and the ice cream isn't worth ordering. 2nd time I got a pie from this restaurant. I ordered for pickup as I wanted to watch the football game... I mention that only because the place is really nice and has a nice family friendly environment. We are all human and make mistakes, I ordered Olives on my pie and when i got back to my hotel it had onions instead. I loathe cooked onions. Called and spoke with Christie and she immediately offered to make it right. Keep in mind they DO NOT deliver, but sje offered to have the new one sent over to my hotel. As I said I have eaten here before, the food is amazing and so is the service. So....I love Italian food. I cook it, we go out for it, I cuddle with it (?). So this looked like a good place and went with some friends. Nice atmosphere inside and friendly wait staff. They bring out some bread and butter and will being olive oil and balsamic if you ask. I think that's where the quality stops... I ordered the Enchiladas Italianas (server said it was really good). The menu description made it sound great. Um...he and I were wrong. It was bland, felt reheated, dull sauce. My buddy ordered the Colorado pizza and he said it was majorly dry. He ate two slices. The rest was thrown out. My friends said the Alfredo was good, but it didn't look too appealing. I had high expectations, but they were thrown to the ground. I stopped here passing through Grand Junction, and it was more than I expected. The inside is nice, and the team was attentive. I also noticed a dessert case, and it all looked good. We ordered the Chicken Marsala and Italian Gumbo. The chicken was tasty and not fried. The Marsala sauce went well with halved mushrooms on the pasta. It came with a house salad and garlic bread. The blue cheese dressing was house made with chunks of blue cheese in it. My guest enjoyed the gumbo which was full of shrimp. Overall, it was a pleasant surprise. read more

My husband and I ate here for the first time Saturday night and we had great service and great food. We started with the Brueshetta appetizer which was delicious. Enjoyed the music they had playing on Pandora. We each had a glass of red wine and my husband order the Special Braised Beef Ravioli. This place was amazing! My dad and I did a 12 hour drive today from California and wanted some good Italian food to hit the spot after a long day. Citrola's was walking distance from our hotel so we decided to try it. The vibe of the restaurant was so cute and welcoming even with our crazy COVID times. We sat inside at one of their nice booths but I noticed they also had a cute outside set up as well. We ordered the house salad to start and I have to say, for a house salad it was soooo good! The bread that it came with was extremely fresh brushed with olive oil and a little sprinkle of cheese....I couldn't stop eating it. We both ordered their specialty chicken piccata and we ate every bite. Christy gave us the most outstanding service, amazing drinks, and the food totally hit the spot. Damn. This town just keeps letting me down with restaurant options. When pulling up I decided to let the fact it's in a strip mall slide. (Some or the best dines hide) I was willing to look past the cheesy vinyl wood wallpaper. Hell I was even willing to look past the dismal wine list. The menu seemed legit. The descriptions sounded great. The calamari was late getting served, in a soup broth, soggy, and elasticity. Didn't finish. Left on end of table. Waitress didn't ask what was up. My girlfriends chicken Marsala was essentially French onion soup with chicken and noodles. #notgood. Didn't finish. My chicken parmigiana was soft chewy and left much to be desired. Didn't finish. I grew up on Long Island, New York, and and eaten at many Italian restaurants in both New York and Florida. After reading some negative reviews on some of the restaurant review websites, I'll be honest, I was a bit nervous about being dissapointed trying a new place. I'll keep the review short and sweet for the TL:DR crowd ( Too long: Didn't read ). A. Restaurant was nice. Clean and well decorated. Bathrooms were spotless. B. Service was prompt, friendly and courteous. C. Food was certainly above average even comparing it to New York restaurants. We ordered Calamari, Caprese Salad, (2) Chicken Parm & a Calzone. All food was great! The owners came by the table and spoke with us for a while. Sent out an ice cream on the house for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. I'll certainly suggest this place to my friends and others as a definite replacement to the glut of franchises we have out here. Good luck guys and we'll see you again. read more

For a very unassuming place, the food was fantastic! The small pizza could easily feed two and had yummy crust and delicious sauce! The spaghetti with meatballs was a generous portion sharing that same great sauce and perfect al dente noodles! The bread on the Calzone was amazing and super stuffed! Rounded out the meal with the Caprese salad which was good but I really wanted to eat everyone else's meals!! I went with friends for lunch and had always wanted to try Citrola's. The waitstaff were very attentive and service was quick. I didn't want a heavy meal, so ordered calamari and a small Caesar salad. The salad was good and the calamari was okay. It was in small, thin pieces rather than rings. Itvwas cooked properly, but the marinara sauce for dipping was very salty....and itvwasn'tbjust me saying this since one if my friends also had the calamari. It was like no one bothered to taste the marinara---they would have definitely noticed it was way too salty! Defunitely ruined the dish. read more

I am surprised at the good reviews. I ordered chicken Marsala to go. I think I counted about 6 mushroom slices in the whole dish. Not whole mushrooms just 6 slices, so 1 1/2 mushrooms. The sauce was tasteless. No Marsala flavor. Served over a large portion of cheap spaghetti. IThe chicken was okay I guess. It was $18. Not an $18 dish. It might have cost about $3 to make. I would never go there again. I like supporting small businesses but honestly, Olive Garden would have been better and that is sad. read more

We are in town for a bike race and came in late on a Friday. Very cute restaurant, little wait time and excellent food. We arrived into town late and wanted a convenient place to eat near our hotel at the Grand Vista. Our server was amazing. I wish I got her name. She treated my kids so well! As busy as they were. Service was quick. The host said 15 to 20 min wait....and we only waited 10. Will definitely come back. Food tasted fresh and homemade! Thank you to our amazing server with the gauge earrings! This has been our go-to date night for a couple years now and nothing in this valley has compared to the quality, flavor, consistency and service we get every time we come here. Every few months we try something new and get a reminder of how great citrolas is. We love the shrimp fra diavolo and the lemon caper salmon the best. This place was awesome! My father and I were driving through on our way from Chicago to Los Angeles and we're staying at the holiday inn. When I called to place an order, they said that they weren't delivering anymore, unless I was at the holiday inn, which I was. About 30 min later they called saying that they were having trouble finding me, turns out there was a miscommunication (probably on my part) and I was at a different holiday inn. I sped over to pick it up, and when I got there they told me that the meal was comp'ed because it wasn't going out as hot as the manager would have liked. They could've easily said "this guys never coming back, he's just driving through, charge him anyway!" But they didn't. The food was still as hot as I would expect from delivery, and it was delicious, so these guys absolutely deserve 5 stars for great service and great food! read more

I really like the authenticity of the place. Great atmosphere, nice booths. Most of the food is worth the cost. I highly recommend the eggplant parmesan. As far as the service goes it's hit-or-miss. The calamari could use some work. Taste like it just got off a Cisco truck. La Familia Cabernet is a great Red at a reasonable price. Bread is delish! Not a great restaurant. Walked in and apparently they dont have working air conditioning. The thermostat next to the bathroom said it was 80 degrees inside. Fettuccine alfredo had no salt and not enough cheese. Bland. The lemon basil ravioli apparently got all the salt that the alfredo was supposed to have in it. It had decent flavor but it was so salty that it ruined an otherwise fine dish. Calamari was surprisingly cooked properly not extremely chewy like most in Colorado. Pretty disappointed in the experience considering how good the owners' deli is next door. For a bunch of ex-New Yorkers, they should have a better grip on the food. This type of food would never fly in the tri-state, especially for the price. They should probably also update their menus since the prices on there did not match what we were charged, even if it was a small amount. To the owners: do better. To any prospective customer: if youve had real Italian you will disappointed, if youre from Colorado it was probably be just fine for you read more

Service was great, but the food not nearly as tasty as at their previous location. Spaghetti didn't have much sauce. Philly cheesesteaks had no peppers. And the garlic bread, which had been a highlight, was not worth a second piece. AND, the website menu showed a salad with the entrees, but when we got there, the printed menu was $3.99 for a side salad with entree. I doubt we will go back. read more
