I'm surprised by the poor reviews, since my experience on Christmas Eve was fantastic. The family and I went and had our full of appetizers, booze, salad, entrees, dessert and coffee. The house bread. OMG, it's delicious and saturated in butter, olive oil and garlic. I could've easily polished off two baskets on my own. The calamari we shared was seasoned nicely, the marinara was perfect and the hint of lemon brought the dish together as a whole. The Caesar salad was cold, crisp and perfectly dressed. It was a nice refreshing bite to give relief to the otherwise heavy meal. Italian Gumbo. WOW. The best bite of the night and was such a cohesive dish with great flavors. The spaghetti and meatballs were surprisingly a bit on the spicy side but very tender. The chicken piccata was nice and lemony and salty with the capers. The chicken Parmesan was crispy and delightful. Finally, tell your kids to order the Mac and cheese, kids style. They have one that is buttery, alfredo or 'kid style' which is homemade but will trick the kids into thinking it's kraft. I would've ordered that had I been under 10 years old. The dessert is not their strong suit so skip it. Kudos to the server who was swamped with other tables yet attentive and delightful. read more

Citrola's new location on Horizon Drive is beautiful, romantic, and lovely. The rustic ambiance is matched with the rustic and wonderful food. The Italian gumbo is still my favorite. It's unlike anything I've had at an Italian restaurant in this town. The sausage, chicken, and shrimp are perfectly cooked in the flavorful risotto. And...there is no scrimping on shrimp in this dish. The eggplant parmigiana is wonderfully crispy and tasty. Service is wonderful and the complimentary garlic bread is wonderful! read more

I'd love to give this restaurant 4 stars but the fact that they made us pay/add a 2.5% "credit card" fee to our bill is despicable. We should not be obligated to pay for the owners business expenses. I understand times are tough (are they really though) we tipped our waiter 20% but common on...... To the owner, stop this practice. It will definitely pay for itself in the long run. First time to Citrola's with my family. It was fantastic! Our server was very pleasant and attentive. The appetizers were great (sausage & peppers and steamed mussels). Our entrees were so delicious nearly ate it all! My husband had eggplant parmigiana, he loved the crispness of the eggplant and the marinara sauce. Our mom has fettuccine Alfredo and said it was very good. My son had the spicy version of chicken parmigiana and loved it! I had chicken piccata and have to say it was made perfectly. We had a very nice lunch here. We had the steamed mussels - which were the low point of the meal. They were OK - but almost seemed either over cooked or cooked from frozen. But - all uphill from there! The garlic bread served with the mussels was wonderful - actually it was a bread basket for the table, but a good companion for the mussel broth. Clearly house made and nice and hot! I think more restaurants should realize that a good bread will buy them many, many points. Winner! I had the chicken Parmesan. The pasta was quite tasty - but the chicken cutlet was almost overgenerous -- nicely crusted and pan fried. I was happily stuffed. My husband had the sausage and pepper sandwich - which was even better. When it came out, it didn't look all that spectacular. But, that wonderful bread, great sausage, nicely grilled onions and peppers - it was A+. And, we even took home the little bit we couldn't eat - and it reheated perfectly. The inside is on the dark side (at least at lunch) and it was just a pretty place. I felt like you could have a date here, or you could bring your softball team here. It is a big enough venue to offer places for everyone. Service was excellent. Come for the bread and stay for the rest of the meal. You should be pretty happy! I know there are some less than wonderful reviews about this place here on Yelp. But they are mostly people who are ordering take out (from their car or town). This is actually a nice sit-down restaurant and does a nice job as such. I think I wouldn't complain if any of the other nice restaurants in town didn't do a bang up job as a take out. I had take out on 12/31/18 Great story. checked out the hours. then dropped my bags at the hotel next door, returned the rental truck. too a taxi back to the hotel, then walked in the 29 degree weather the 300 feet to the restaurant. the sign was up closed NOOOOO! People eating cooks tossing pies and making food. I had to inquire I just had too! HI can I get some food. At first they were slow to respond the Chef from behind said take his order with much zeal. The waiter said let me take you to a table... No this is take out which pleased him much :)' I placed my order. I remarked the place was beautiful. another waitress said come. showed me the entire restaurant with much pride. The food was fanstisco! MEATY, cheesy, crust was dead on perfect even after a 300 foot walk at 11:10 pm and 29 degrees and an elevator ride. They were so considerate and kind. Charging a service fee on the final bill for using a credit card rather than cash, yet no information about that service fee prior to. Please be aware, the service fee is also taxed. Atmosphere was nice and relaxed. The waitress was not at the front and I waited a long time. A couple came in after me and when the waitress can she started talking to them. I ordered the fettucne Alfredo and salad. The bread finally came and it was very good. He fettucne also came and it was also very good. The food was very good. I just could not get service. I finally asked her when she was passing if we could simply skip the salad. She apologized and said sure. I asked about the desert menu and she came back and told me the desert options. There are several that are house made but I chose the red velvet cheesecake and it was clearly a boxed option served cold. read more

Ok, this is the last time I'll give this place my business. It has always been sketchy service and understaffed, but the food is pretty good and I'd rather give my money to a local business than a chain. Tonight we came in. No hostess and a mostly full restaurant. There were several groups waiting to get on the wait list. After a good 15 minutes of no hostess, two groups walked out Finally a stressed out waitress came and took our names. A table opened up on the bar area as another couple entered to get on the list...a waiter took them and seated them in the bar while we watched in amazement. We spoke up and he barely apologized.....just then another group entered and he offered to seat them right away while half-heartedly still apologizing for having just done it once! We are traveling this weekend from California to our new home in Fort Collins. We had no choice to leave, our home in CA sold and a new home leased in Ft Collins. Day two of our trip and staying in the La Quinta here in GJ. Looking for food, the hotel staff suggested Citrola's. Of course with CV-19 we had to do take out. We ordered pizza and salad. The manager threw in an order of bruschetta and gave my wife a glass a wine while we waited. We ordered a medium pizza but the chef made us a large one. Great pizza, amazing service and attitudes. A party of traveling motorcyclists, this restaurant was in walking distance from our hotel. We seated ourselves at the bar to start and were welcomed immediately by one of the owners behind the bar. Comfortable conversation, we remained at the bar & ordered a delicious dinner. From the antipastos plates, bruschetta & steamed mussels, to the veal dishes, ravioli, stuffed eggplant, spaghetti & meatballs, lemon chicken with rigatoni, stuffed meatballs, lasagna and the wonderful crusty garlic bread; we ate every last bite with contentment. Vowing to return, we did the following night & met the other owner. Another outstanding meal. Hands down the BEST Italian we've had in a VERY LONG TIME!! Our flight out of Montrose got canceled so we had to come to Grand Junction for the night to catch a flight the next day. We've never been to GJ so we had no idea where to eat and of course had no car to get around town since the airport placed us at the Grand Vista Hotel. We looked for somewhere close by (within walking distance) and this little hole in the wall called Citrola's popped up across the street from the hotel! I am not exaggerating when I tell you that this meal more than made up for the days headache of travel issues we experienced!! The food was so fresh, tasted homemade and the staff was incredible! We had the garlic mozzarella bread which was surprisingly amazing as well as the lobster ravioli and shrimp fettuccine alfredo! Both sauces tasted house made and the pasta itself was so fresh and cooked to perfection!!! I can't thank this place enough for such an incredible experience after the day we've had.
