I visit Citron with my family for my mothers birthday. It's definitely fitting for a special occasion. The overall ambiance and interior décor is really nice and perfect for photos. I tried a few starters: Shrimp Spring Rolls, Asian Tso Sauce 20 - Not memorable but not bad Chilled Jumbo Shrimp Texas Brown, Cocktail Sauce, Citrus 23 - Pretty bland Hand cut Truffle Fries 15 - Favorite My entrée was delicious however. I had their Jumbo Diver Sea Scallops (60) which is just Maine Lobster, Potato Galette, Asparagus, Tomato Peperonata and Shellfish Pan Sauce. Very filling and nicely seasoned. I ordered a citron lemon drop. It came in a baby cup. I was disappointed. I had to order another drink after the waiter told me that I could have gotten a bigger version of my drink. I have been to citron a few times. I personally do not like the food the ambiance is amazing with the view and options of seating choices. This particular time I went because I wanted to date my bf and it was a beautiful day considering it being winter time. The waitress, I forgot her name and she was also training someone suggested the sushi. I wanted oysters however they did not have any. Must've looked at an old menu. The sushi was cooked(tempura) but it's called something else on the menu. It was really delectable and fresh! Might have been the best sushi I ever had. I had a glass of pinot. and that was it...... The bill was $91 now I am not a person that complains about bills because I love to eat good food and try different restaurants and don't really do that if I don't have the funds to. When I came out from my dinner party it was gone and the hostess was off. No one could find my umbrella. Umbrellas are not cheap so I was very upset. That aside the restaurant and food was great. We did a birth dinner celebration in one of the private rooms for a friend birthday. The calamari was good but you only get 5 rings the rest were the crumbs so that was a disappointment for the price. My sushi was delicious it had crab and shrimp and the waitress recommended it. You won't be disappointed. I didn't get the crab cake but I was told the crab cake, veal, and lamb were all great options too get. I visited Citron for a birthday event on a Saturday evening. Citron is a hidden gem. The location is great, lots of parking. The restaurant as a whole is just beautiful, an amazing view of the lake. They have plenty of outdoor seating options. We sat in the main dining area which was very pretty I loved it. Our waiter Will was amazing! So helpful and accommodating. The drink was great, I got ginger pear. For food I got the lamb chops 10/10. Mash potatoes was 10/10. Mac and cheese not so great, didn't taste seasoned. Same with the calamari was not that great. I think aesthetically a great place to try, with lots of food options. They are on the pricier side in terms of entree's. I would visit again and try different things on the menu read more

Food is very good. Nothing I had was too inspired but tasty and seasoned/cooked well. We got the ribeye and the Jumbo scallops. Drinks took quite some time and were underwhelming considering this is considered fine dining. Btw the decor is beautiful and well suited for a fine dining experience. But again the service and drinks were not in line with prices, decor, or quality of food. Our server was kind but seemed anxious to leave the table and delivered melted ice cream to our table (see pics). Woman who may have been floor manager responded by immediately replacing it with a new scoop. Then it came back from our server as chocolate chip because the vanilla "was not frozen all the way". It was appreciated as it was comp'd cuz it was my bday. Overall I give the experience a 6/10 a day fine dining experience. A true classy experience for food and service. Citron is an elegant restaurant that combines high quality food with superb service. With excessive open seating in the back, Citron provides a safe environment during the pandemic to enjoy a luxurious meal. To start, I sampled the muscles and tuna tartar appetizers. The muscles, large, flavorful, and seasoned simply with salt, pepper, and garlic were a delight, with or without the accompanying butter sauce. The tuna tartar was a beautifully arranged pile of sushi grade tuna bits atop of an avocado spread, and while this in of itself wasn't extraordinarily special, I still enjoyed the dish. For the main courses, I tried both the short ribs and the sea bass. The short ribs were beyond tender, as I didn't even need my knife to tear the cut of beef into pieces. They were smothered with a sweet barbecue sauce and paired with a side of not potato chips, but plantains that had been thinly sliced and fried into sweet and crunchy treats. Overall, I wouldn't say that the short ribs were the best I'd ever had, but they were delicious non-the-less. The sea bass, on the other hand, was special. The fish was silky, flaky, and bursting with a light and tender flavor that melted in my mouth. It might have been one of the best pieces of bass I'd ever had. The sea bass was paired with simple asparagus that helped balance the flavors of the bass, and mashed potatoes that reminded me of the mashed potatoes my mother makes: chunky, with bits of onion in every bite. The highlight of our meal was the dessert. Citron has a frequent rotating dessert, so I could not look up the exact dish I had that night, but I can describe it as a white, pudding like concoction topped with a guava gelatin and a few berries and crunchy white chocolate pearls. The mix of the savory white base, the sweet guava top, and the tart and crunchy toppings were a medley of different tastes and textures that perfectly ended the meal. As mentioned, the service was second to none. Our server was beyond friendly and chatty, checking up on our table before and after every plate. The owner even visited to talk to me, talking about the restaurant, both in the quality of the food and the steps they've gone to go beyond the CDC's recommendations for safe eating (all employees wearing masks and gloves at all times, placing CDC approved hand sanitizers on every table, using hospital style air-filters inside so even the bar and kitchen are safer for staff). The owner even mentioned that while Citron normally has catering service, they have suspended the service at this time to ensure the safety of the staff. For your next night out, look to Citron for the extravagant dining experience you've been missing. read more

Went last week with a few friends from work- the food was delicious. The poke bowl was a real hit and the star of what we ordered. The mix of fresh salmon, tuna and himachi was divine. The truffle Mac and cheese was delicious as well- buttery and creamy and melt in your mouth. Our dining companions had the flat bread and salad which was good but not great- I think they were underwhelmed. For dessert the chocolate caramel pâte (more like a flourless chocolate truffle) was a real standout. The decor and service was 5 stars - I only wish we had come earlier to see the waterfront view. Also it was our groups first time eating out during COVID and we had safety concerns looking for a place to dine- felt reassured at Citron. They have a state of the art newly installed air purification system. Tables were placed far apart from each other. The only negative was that they advertised outdoor seating but it is really more like a covered patio seating and the air seemed to be better inside. Came here on the first weekend restaurants were open for outdoor seating (due to state mandated closures for COVID). We were itching to get out of the house and picked this place because it popped up on OpenTable as an available reservation. This is a stunning restaurant that I can't believe I haven't been to before!! Location/Parking: Citron's location overlooking Quarry Lake is beautiful. The restaurant front is located right beside the Quarry Lake shopping area - a very posh spot with cute boutique shops, upscale salons and fresh markets. Plenty of parking available right outside the restaurant. I believe they typically have valet parking available but have suspended that service due to current guidelines for minimizing exposures. Food/Drink/Vegetarian options: Awesome cocktail menu - members of my family sampled the Paloma, Mojito, French 75, and a few others. All of the drinks were delicious and perfect for sitting outdoors. The menu has plenty of vegetarian options for starters, including mac & cheese and brussel sprouts. They even have a vegetarian sushi option which was very good. As for entrees, the only vegetarian option is the vegan red beet and spinach ravioli, which was delicious, but I would have loved to see maybe just one more option. We also tried two of their desserts - a cheesecake and macadamia chocolate bar which were both divine! Service: Excellent. From being greeted upon arrival to grabbing drinks before being seated, everyone was incredibly friendly. Despite being one of the first nights open after a long time, our server and Charles Levine (the owner) were very attentive. All of the employees were wearing masks and there were bottles of hand sanitizer at each table. Ambiance: Casual elegance. The outdoor patio is stunning, perfect for a group of friends or date night. Citron is an oasis in Baltimore. I visited this restaurant at 7 pm on a Saturday evening for dinner. I ordered calamari and Chilean Sea Bass. This was by far the best Sea Bass I've ever tasted. The calamari was tossed in a sweet chili sauce and was not overwhelming in spice or flavor. The Sea Bass was extremely moist and had a nice beurre Blanc sauce drizzled on top. The asparagus and potatoes were cooked perfectly! The food was absolutely delicious but the view was the high point of dinner. Christian was an awesome server. He was kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about the food/drink pairings. Food: My summer vegetable ceviche salad was awesome! The mozzarella, tomato and watermelon together was refreshing and bonus points for the watermelon being just right! The lamb chops and mashed cauliflower are to die for! I went with a girlfriend for a nice evening out. Honestly, this place is just okay. At $200 for our meals and drinks, it was overpriced for what I got with very disappointing service at that price point. Food and drinks: We started with the happy hour menu and enjoyed a few drinks. They were good but veer on the sweet side for me. We also ordered the Brussel Sprouts san cheese; this was a highlight of the meal! For dinner, my friend ordered a good looking sushi roll, and I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly. So why the 2 stars? My food was was lukewarm - the asparagus inedibly - and the server's response unacceptable. Service: When I pay upwards of $40 for a meal, I expect it to come out hot! When it doesn't, I expect the restaurant to address it. My server apologized but didn't offer the bring me a new side. Instead, he brought me a side plate and asked me to move my asparagus onto that plate so he could reheat it. Then, he brought the reheated asparagus out lukewarm again! He was not attentive; we waited 30 minutes with dirty plates to be able to ask for the desert menu (and yes, we had to ask ourselves). And the manager never checked on our table throughout the meal. When we were leaving and the hostess asked how it was, I told her disappointing, and she apologized and just let us go. For a $200 meal, I expect a lot more. Ambiance: The place is nicer than an average restaurant. The bar area was very lively and required speaking loudly to talk. Given the level of service, it feels like it tries to hard. That said, the little dining room by the fire would be magical for a date. The bottom line: it'd be a tough sell to get me to return. I went with a group of girls and for appetizers we got typical calamari, fries and artisan cheese. No wow factors. Entree was crabcake! I have to get that when I'm in MD.. it was really salty. Also, only 1 crabcake .. the portion was a small but fluffed up with the extra stuff on the side, meh. Presentation was nice but with the view and setting, the food should be spectacular! I went there for dinner knowing that it would expensive. The food, service and ambience was good, but they charge almost twice what you would pay at a comparable restaurant. What bothers the hell out of me is two fold. (1) mandatory service fee of 20%. Many times I give 20% TIP depending on service, but there is now there is no incentive for a server to perform excellent service. I am sure that the 20% does not go to the server. (2) They add a 3% surcharge for using a credit card!! I can understand nickle and diming if it was a low cost austere carryout, but an overpriced restaurant??? My son and daughter in law had their wedding here and nothing that was promised was delivered. Second wedding held at same time ended up receiving all of what was promised to my son, including the use of some of our decorations. Nothing was set up on time causing a one hour delay in starting the wedding. Guests were bumped and hit with tables during the room turnover. Sound system (really just Bluetooth enabled speaker) was aweful... I could go on... To say it was a horrible experience is an understatement.. Lastly, the final bill was grossly inflated (four different totals). The 22% gratuity charged on top of the 20% gratuity on every drink from the cash bar was the straw that broke the camel's back. This restaurant is one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever viewed in my life! The service is impeccable, we were greeted as soon as we crossed the threshold! It was so nice and quiet in there that you could hear a pin drop! This location offers valet service and what you may not know but it's very important to me, you can put your valet service bill which is $6 into your final bill! That's very great to know but there is also parking nearby that you can walk to from Quarry Lakes shopping area. We were seated in the beautiful dining room by our hostess. Soon after we were greeted by one of two of our tables wait staff. Joshua and then soon after John. We felt like royalty being waited on by not one but two people at the same time. Joshua made great menu selections and my husband actually took his advice on his steak order, meanwhile I decided to get the half roasted chicken. All of the food order came out plated so nice and attractive, it was good enough to eat! Haha All of my food was very good but I must admit I felt my chicken and my mashed potatoes were a little salty in flavor. I am sensitive to Salt, so I'm not going to hold that against the restaurant but the seasonal vegetables that accompanied my entree delicious! My husband's steak was made just right & he absolutely loved it. I was pleased that he was pleased because I took him there for his birthday and definitely wanted to impress. Contacted the restaurant and inquired if I could move my reservation earlier. I was told that I could move it an hour earlier. I then asked if I would still be able to sit on the patio and was informed that seating location is not guaranteed. I explained that I spoke with a hostess earlier today and was informed that we would definitely get patio seating. After asking to speak with the Manager several times, I was finally transferred. I spoke with the manager Mark and explained the situation, however he continuously cut me off and would not allow me to finish my sentence. He then insulted me by stating that there was "no reason to get riled up" and this was "not this type of establishment". Mind you, I never raised my voice nor used profanity. Mark then hangs up on me. This is a RACIST establishment that I will NEVER support. Citron, you have no right to turn your nose up at ANY person. I want to start this review off by saying that it pains me to give such a low review to such a great place. I have been here other times pre-COVID and have always had awesome experiences. But my most recent visit, with a group of friends on Saturday, 20 February 2021 left me wishing to never return. We arrived, and they took our temperature at the door. We had a group of 12, so we were seated at 2 tables of six. We were seated in the area right before you get to the patio. ALL THE OTHER TABLES AROUND US HAD PATRONS SEATED. So did the bar which was directly in front of where we sat. Social distancing was non existent. They also had at least two private parties going on. One on the patio and one in the private room. We started placing our orders and waited for at least 45 minutes before receiving our appetizers. I ordered the Tuna Sashimi and was given the Tuna Tartare....twice. Which I sent back both times as it was not what I ordered. The second time it was brought out, I told the server ( even though he was different than the first one) this is tartare, I ordered sashimi. He then looked at me, turned around and walked away with the plate. I couldn't believe that they were trying to serve me as if I don't know what I ordered or what it should look like. Several people in our party ordered another round of drinks that also took forever to come. Our server was confused and seemed like he didn't have experience with large parties. We watched people come in, be seated, served and leave all before we even got our main course. My husband's appetizer never even came out. When the server finally decided to inform us what was going on, he blamed the kitchen and said that they were behind. Clearly they weren't as none of the other tables seemed to have any issues. To add insult to injury, the owners were engaged with a group of whom I assume were regulars as they actually sat at the table with them and had conversation. Not once did they try to come and assess our situation or even try to make it right. When our food finally came, mostly everyone's food was cold. No one wanted to send it back, though they should have. We had already agreed that we'd never go back. Once we got through the horrific meal, I guess as a sign of appeasement, each table was given a slice of cake....with six forks. WTF?!?! So we were supposed to all share a slice of cake and be happy? We paid our Bill and left. This was the worst experience I've ever had at Citron. I can't believe that the owners never once came and tried to make it right. We've been there enough to be familiar with who the owners are. They did a good job of skirting our table and avoiding us throughout our dinner experience. Citron is not an average restaurant. We spent too much money that night to be ignored by the owners when we were having issues caused by their staff. This is a very nice spot. The location is fairly new and the area continues to grow. I was able to go for restaurant week and enjoyed the experience. The crowd was a little older, but overall pleasant experience. The braised short rib was very good. If I had a critique about the food, it would be that the crab soup was served a little on the cold side. It was served nicely, but could have been better. The bartender seemed fairly new/inexperienced but hopefully he feels more confident with time. My first drink was a sangria. It was not my favorite. I guess I would describe it as "flat." Personally, I hosted an event and presentation for about 15 people and they are perfect for that as well. The service was impeccable, both during the planning phase, set up and execution of the event. The owner, Charles Levine, truly goes out of his way to make you feel welcome here and ensures that all of your needs are fully met. It trickles down from him to the staff, as everyone did a fantastic job taking care of us. The food was absolutely delicious. It's really where this place shines! The shrimp and scallop pasta was especially great. After our presentation was over, we were very pleased to be able to walk out onto the patio and into a lively scene with a band playing and everyone very much enjoying themselves. Unfortunately, I was really looking forward to enjoying and really nice Mother's Day meal with my mom, but this experience made me almost embarrassed to take her out. I was really disappointed: First, we were seated and then had to wait 15 minutes until we ASKED a server for water, and then waited another five minutes. We had to flag the waitress who was greeting and serving the tables who were seated AFTER us; a waitress who had already acknowledged and spoke to a couple and a party of six who arrived after us. Then we watched as she was very friendly to the three tables surrounding us, offering them small talk, the wine menu, and cocktail menu; none of which she greeted us with. The food was good, but overall, I don't think our experience was worth the amount of money we paid. read more

This was my first visit and most definitely will not be my last. You get the downtown feel with this gem hidden in greenspring valley overlooking quarry lake. I requested privacy for my husband's birthday dinner and that's exactly what we got. The owner, Charles, checked in on us frequently and we had a great conversation with him at the end of our delicious meal. Everything was perfect: the ambiance, the music, and of course the food. We relied heavily on our waiter to suggest our entree and dessert selections and he did not disappoint. My husband wasn't thrilled about his initial entree choice, but the waiter kindly brought him a second choice which he loved. I will definitely return soon with my husband, or with friends for happy hour. Great restaurant and great people!!! read more

Citron is an eyesore. It still astonishes me that permission was given for it to be built along the shores of Quarry Lake, the only commercial establishment on the lake bankside proper. It completely eliminated the views of the lake for four (4!!) smaller, much more modest eateries that already existed. The exterior is an undistinguished cinder-block rectangle, unpleasant to look at; what's more, the garbage containers are not enclosed on the sidewalk- facing side, leaving a virtually constant mess to be viewed by pedestrians. I had thought that perhaps at least they would have taken care of this in the years since the restaurant was built, but that has not been the case. I acknowledge that this is not a review of Citron's fare or service. I decline to patronize the restaurant because of the way in which I feel its presence mars the otherwise beautiful and unusual aspect of the Quarry Lake area read more

Saw they had live music and happy hour on Thursdays so we came for that. There's was a big, flag-like sign to the right of the front door with open black gates beckoning us to the outdoor seating area, so we walked in through there. I had no idea this whole area was back there! There are gorgeous high top tables overlooking the lake. 3 out of 5 of them were empty, so we sat at one. Excited for a date night while the grandparents watched our son! A few minutes later, no one came over, so my husband went into the bar area inside to see what was going on. We were then asked if we had reservations for happy hour...umm no? The hostess explained that all outdoor tables are reserved tonight because of the music, so we had to sit on a couch. Plus there were about 5 round tables behind the high tops that were all empty! We ended up ordering 2 rounds of wine, which was a great deal during happy hour. We then started with the calamari, and it was decent. I don't really remember it, so it didn't blow our hair back. I got the fried chicken salad, and my husband got the shrimp Cobb salad. Each salad was $25+, so I was thinking these salads would be incredible. The portion sizes were large, but the proteins were puzzling--the chicken tenders were weirdly sliced in half underneath, I feel like to make it look like more chicken. Same with the shrimp! It seemed shady to me. I also didn't love the dressing on mine. Overall, the salads were tasty, but I guess the high price tag is for the views. We ended up being there for over 2 hours and by the time we left 2 of the 5 hightop tables were still empty. We did not appreciate being pushed to an uncomfortable, wet couch area, especially when we were ordering appetizers, and a full meal, not just drinks. It felt like we had to be in with an unknown "in crowd" in order to be good enough to be allowed to sit at a table. Such a weird place. We will not be back. read more
