this place was not my cup of tea. Went there to join family to celebrate after church on a Sunday. The service was OK. It took forever for our group to get drinks. I was with a large party just to emphasize that point to understand it can be challenging at times. However, myself and one other individual didn't end up getting our food until everyone else was done their food. That shouldn't happen! this was definitely diner food and not a great diner by any means. I know people who go here often and they really enjoy this place. A while ago I visited the movie theater, today I wanted to start the restaurant attached to it. The inside interior is like walking inside a Vegas diner lol. Lots of 60's and Elvis memorabilia. The establishment is "Seat yourself" my waiter was very attentive, the staff were warm and friendly. They had a nice seafood menu. They even offer fresh crabs (off the menu but you can request them). WOW!!! The absolute worst experience I have ever had and I will never go back to that restaurant. Waited nine minutes for someone to sit us waited another 18 minutes for someone to come over and take our odor another 42 minutes for our food we never saw our server after we placed our original order, which is about an hour. The food was very good BUT took a very, very long time to get!! I awaited about 45 minutes just to get a cup of matzo soup!!!Excuse after excuse as to why it took so long. The people that we were with(including myself) were halfway through our meal and my husband was still waiting for the rock fish. Never told that the fish would take a long time to cook. Also, we smelled this powerful odor coming from the kitchen that traveled through the entire dining area! Caused us to cough!! They blamed it on the process of steaming the crabs. This is kind of a seedy place but has a cute vibe. Life sized plaster celebrities welcome you into the space. Movie posters and art adorn the walls. The food was decent, service was friendly and adequate (our server went MIA after serving our food...we waited a considerable time for drink top-offs and our check). The biggest issue was the unisex restroom which was DISGUSTING. Strong smell of urine and was on the floor as well as toilet seats. if I hadn't REALLY needed to use the facilities, I would've walked out. Food and service here was really good. I visited with a group and there was a horrible storm passing through. The lights flickered but our server assured us that they had a generator which we were thankful for. They have a huge menu variety, something for everyone. This has been one of my group's go-to for a couple of years now but lately they seem to have a problem keeping staff. The last several times we've been there it's been all new faces working the floor except for the bartender who is being over worked by covering the floor. Some of those new faces should probably find another line of work. And who knows what's going on in the kitchen. Today: Waiter typed our order into his phone: a BLT with cheddar cheese, a short stack of pancakes, bacon and corn pudding. Over half an hour later, the BLT came without cheese, the pancakes without syrup and the corn pudding was missing. Despite asking for it, the syrup never showed up and the cheese he finally brought was some kind of shredded mix that may or may not have been cheddar. Shredded cheese on a cold sandwich? How's that supposed to work? The corn pudding, when it finally came, was dry, burnt and unceremoniously plopped down in a paper container. And something about hearing our waiter tell us that he had to go into the walk-in to get our food didn't sit right. Not necessarily ever thinking everything was prepared fresh on the spot, that's not something you really want to hear. And that was just our order. There were issues with at least two of the other three. We've had great service in the past. A few weeks ago we had a young woman wait on us who didn't need to write anything down and got all six orders down perfectly and the food came out quickly. We've come to the conclusion that good people don't stay working there because they're either too new to the business and get frustrated and/or they're overworked and/or have to deal with difficult customers. Having done service work in the area, I can vouch for the customer problems. They can be very demanding around these parts. I'll give them a generous 3 stars only because it's hit or miss on the service, but the food (when done right) is delicious and the portions are good and at a reasonable price. read more

Great food especially the jumbo crabs and the good crab soup. But what has to change is the incompetency of the staff. I called at 10:30 am to order a dozen Jumbo steamed crabs to be ready at 4:30 pm to be picked up. I was told to call 20 minute before I arrived. I called 20 minutes and was immediately told by a lady that you have to call 45 minutes before when picking up steamed crabs. I would have thought when I made a reservation to pick up a dozen steamed crabs at a certain time that they would have been ready even without me calling. Not only is this incompetence, but the lady on the phone at 4:10 pm was rude and obnoxious. The guy I spoke with at 10:30 am couldn't have been nicer and my friends who came over to have the steamed crabs visit this restaurant regularly. I get crabs in Virginia where I live and when I say I'm picking them up, I'm there without a phone call. Get it right and make sure everyone at this restaurant is all on the same page. read more

My first time walking in there was great. Loved how the establishment looks with the seating and lighting. There's definitely enough room to seat a lot of people. I came to pick up a dozen crabs that I won in a giveaway. They were nice and large and tasted delightful. I will definitely be back to try more fare. read more

We have removed this establishment entirely from our go-to list and will never return. The outside entrance hasn't generally been swept for weeks and the patio entrance is usually untidy. What was once considered funky movie-related decor is now tired and tacky. The saddest part is the food is still pretty good. But the sh***y service doesn't make up for it. Didnt know about this theatre until my wife surprised me with tickets to go see "Bad Boys Forever" - YES PLEASE! This little gem is a black owned and super in the cut so we got here a little early to check out the spot and feel the vibe. Walked in and were greeted immediately by a nice young man who showed us to our theatre and let us know someone would help us soon. I can't front - I didnt know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The decor and color palette is really nice and chairs super comfy. I wish they reclined a tad bit more BUTTTTT I might've fallen asleep so maybe it's good that they didnt. Before the movie started, our server came with menus and explained how it worked and that we could also order from the restaurant-SCORE! Wish we would've gone hungry because the food smelled really good. Unfortunately, we only had room for popcorn (because who comes to the movies and DOESNT eat popcorn?) Settled into our seats with a packed house and the movie began. I was impressed by the quality of the screen and sound - they definitely invested in this and I enjoyed every minute on the edge of my seat. Nothing like a local hometown favorite. I have always lived in the Owings Mills/Pikesville area and heard folks talking about Pikes for years so I finally got there! It's a laidback hangout with a huge variety of breakfast-to-dinner items in the menu, cocktails & an attached 2-screen theater that seats 80 in each. It's decorated with figures related to old movies that takes you back to the 60's and 70's. My friend I went with loves the place and it's his definite go to spot. We went on a football Sunday when indoor dining was still open. I see why he loves it. Everyone knew him, knew his drink and knew what he wanted to order. You gotta love an establishment like that!! We started with Honey Bay wings and jumbo crabs. The wings were perfectly fried and were not overpowering with the honey, just awesome. The crabs were huge and definitely worth the money!! I could only get thru 3 of them lol. A little lacking in flavor but they were good. The waitress was super attentive as was the entire staff and we never had to wait long for anything. Came back to md to visit and follow up on some doctors visits and I wanted some crabs (this was on a Sunday and me the wife and the grand baby were together) so my wife calls her girlfriend where should go so she suggested here and she want to come too. We pull up to this place and it looks like a movie theater but the other side was being remodeled to open up as a real movie theater. We walk inside and your instantly hit with movie nostalgia if you are a movie buff. The walls have movie posters from years and figurines from hit movies as you can see from the pics. We ordered 2 dozen of crabs 1 for there to eat and one to bring home. The were very well seasoned ( not too salty) and very meaty!!! When they laid the brown paper and the lil hammers on the tables....it's bout to go down!!!! We were cracking and smacking on those delicious crabs!!! It was my first time on the brown paper and I was told I didn't disappoint !!! We also ordered a couple of sandwiches which were huge that 2 people could eat off one...I had a bowl of soup which was delicious too but the crabs, yes the crabs did it for me!!! Rhis review is for the theater only.. Came out for a friend's private screening for their birthday. We had a bit of an issue parking because we wanted to make sure we were not in an unauthorized parking space subject to towing. We settled in on the signs that said parking for Pikes Bar and Grill, which is located adjacent to the movie theater. This establishment is black owned and I was excited to come and experience their business. We checked in at the front, were temperature checked and given hand sanitizer before going into the movie theater. There are only two theaters and upon entering the one we were directed to, it was a small, intimate theater. The capacity for this event was at least 50-75, but folks were seated next to each other. I was prepared with my DOUBLE mask and clear shield. I knew I was not going to eat in the theater, even though our gracious guest provided a catered crab cake dinner for their guests. I was too paranoid. I bagged mine to eat at home. I was a bit nervous in a movie theater close to folks I didn't know, but I am vaccinated and, as I mentioned before, was double masked AND sheildex, so that took some of the edge off. I loved this small theater. It was clean and offered food and drinks while viewing the movie. In Theater 2, the chairs didn't recline at all, but looks equipped to do . The food was typical, toss in a oven to warm up fare, still good. My drink.... Was overly strong.. maybe that was a good thing but it had to be toned down and I ended up not drinking it. I always like visiting this place after church. The food is consistent and the service is prompt. When you enter, you'd think it was a theater. There is a marquee to give you that impression. The inside of the restaurant has a lot of old timey statues, like Betty Boop and others, like you're in the theater. We always order breakfast, which is my ultimate favorite anytime of the day. Most recently, we visited on Palm Sunday. It was a bit more crowded with large groups of people. Any other Sunday, it's not as crowded that early in the morning. I ordered the pancakes, scrambled eggs and grits. Yummy. I usually have to "fix" my eggs and grits with a little salt and pepper, but that's expected at most restaurants. I've been there a number of times. The food is halfway decent. The prices are a little high. However... the other day I ordered a crabcake sandwich. Though there were crab entries in the menu that were over $30, this one was listed at $21. I decided I would treat myself to it. 10 minutes after I placed my order, the waitress came back to tell me there would be a five dollar surcharge on my crabcake. When I asked why, she told me that the price of crab had gone up and they couldn't sell it for that price.
