Pretty good food. A little expensive vs similar things in the area, but worth it. This place has a lot of choices, including a pretty decent sushi menu. I had some unagi sushi here and it came with large pieces of fish and a nice block of rice under each piece. The eel was cooked properly with the right amount of eel sauce. Thick pieces of fish...very generous portions. I also had chicken teriyaki with pineapple chunks. Delicious! Tender chicken with a rich, slightly sweet and fruity teriyaki sauce. Delectable. A long time family favorite, but I think that's mostly based on nostalgia as opposed to the current food offerings. As some other reviewers have noted, the food is getting on the pricier side. But mostly, the issue is the food itself. Typically I order General Tso's chicken, but sometimes it's General Tso's shrimp or sweet and sour chicken (in any event, some variation of a breaded protein in a sauce), and while serving sizes are generous the food (that we get as take out, and maybe that's part of the problem) is surrounded by a ton of sauce that tastes about 75% sugar and the rest other flavorings. In short, if you like these items very sweet and very loaded with sauce, it may be for you. If you prefer less, and less sweet, sauce and perhaps more delicate flavors, you'd likely be better off at the many other Chinese food locations in the area. As a side note, maybe it's me who should simply try other sorts of items there as they do have a large menu, but some things are "force of habit." read more

We had carry out from Jumbo Seafood tonight. We're used to their food being very good but tonight it was not to be. I had the Chow Fun and it was basically inedible. The noodles were so overcooked that they were like mush and we're just impossible to eat. My husband said his beef chow mein was good. It looked gloppy to me. My cousin said his orange chicken was just okay. The best thing was the wonton soup. We won't be going back to JumboSeafood. They are too expensive to be serving mediocre food. read more

Hadn't ate all day. Went here hungry enough that they could have given me a saltine cracker and it would've tasted great cuz I was hungry. I rated this Chinese restaurant in 2017 and i thought then it was great, however I have a different rating now for either the Chef has changed or the quality has changed not to my liking now. At that time in 2017 the special lunch cost around $6.50 and the portions were larger and a petit scoop of vanilla ice cream whet the palette and it gave the sweet touch to the meal. I understand that food prices have changed now and raw foods are higher now and that same lunch with smaller portions and they took out that sweet touch is now $ 12.95.with selected items. I recently too my Grandson to lunch on a week day and he loves the noodles with beef. He could hardly chew the beef and the noodles were filled with grease. We both decided we would not go back so different than the foods I had in 2017 and I've had other lunch and dinner carry outs and the quality is just not the same as the prices go up and up.. read more

So I was calling for two days before my special event to inquire about Peking ducks. I was told they are 6.5 lbs each before cooking. I was told one duck would be enough for 4 people, but maybe not 5, so I ordered two. I specifically made sure that they offered the full duck because the price of $45 for a duck is not cheap. So after ordering two ducks, I asked if they could cut them for me. They said "of course". This was my mistake, trusting the integrity of these people. I received 7 very small duck legs and exactly .6 lbs of white meat. I paid $106 for 7 drumsticks of a duck and not enough meat for two people to enjoy. After bringing this to the attention of the restaurant, as how two ducks could possibly have 7 legs... how I only received ONE handful of white meat? The lady kept talking to me like I was an absolute retard who didn't know what he was talking about. I asked them to make it right, but they kept insisting everything was normal. No problem. You shoveled your left over Peking duck into two containers and sold it to me as two wholes. And people wonder why someone is skeptical to trust Asian restaurants. Complete disgrace. read more

Baltimore Magazine posted a list of Chinese places that are open on Christmas Day and Jumbo Seafood was one of them. Since I wasn't spending my Christmas with family this year, I thought some Chinese food would make me feel at home. Growing up, my mom's family owned a Chinese restaurant and I was often recruited to help out so understood that it's unusually busy. My husband ordered around 5 pm for pick up at 7:15 pm. When we first arrived, there was a line outside and order numbers/names were being yelled out. When I eventually made it in, I checked in with the girl up front and my order hadn't been started being made yet. We ordered wontons in hot chili oil, chicken hot and sour soup, minced chicken and corn soup, shrimp and scallops in ginger scallion sauce, and seafood lo mein. We finally got our food at 8:30 pm. I was thoroughly impressed with the size of the seafood and the amount that they give! They live up to their name on this aspect. The flavors were also very good. My favorite dish was the wontons in hot chili oil. The chicken and corn soup was a bright yellow color which didn't look natural but tasted fine. The ginger scallion sauce was loaded with onions which I wasn't expecting, but they were cooked enough that added a nice touch. They even called us later that evening to apologize and check in on us, which I was not expecting and a nice touch to the service. Would definitely give this place another try, but probably not on Christmas day. read more

Well, I know why I avoided this place for years. Got takeout after reading about the owners son and how good his own restaurant is. Figured he may have a father who knows his stuff. WRONG. Shrimp dumplings at least tasted of shrimp but the texture was slimy. The dipping sauce was the worst I've ever had. Tried their steamed and fried chicken dumplings. They looked nothing like a Chinese dumpling, and had the worst texture and flavor of any dumpling I have had at any Chinese restaurant, period. Pork fried rice was edible but did not have any flair whatsoever. General Tso's chicken was burnt in flavor, overly sauced, had no heat, and unnecessarily sweet. Never again. I ate there a few years go during a snow storm. The food was not good at all. Some freinds tuned us on to the spot and what a disappointment, but after all everybody was trying to get home because this snow storm was going to be a big one and it was... Friday 6/7/2017 placed a phone order for delivery which they said was cancelled inadvertently and never called us back to tell us of this mistake. A freind ordered at the same time also using a credit card for delivery. his oder went thogh without a hitch, but the food was horrible. I've always lived very close to this restaurant, and have been a patron for over 20 years. After moving to another area outside of Jumbo's delivery radius, I realized how inferior other Chinese food is. From their addictive sesame chicken to the best crabmeat wontons I've ever had, Jumbo has a menu that's really tough to beat. The scallion pancake with shrimp is one of my favorite dishes here. The atmosphere is appropriate for business lunches, casual dining, or even a first date. The staff is very friendly and they have an excellent understanding of their menu. The lunch specials (soup & egg rolls included) are a great value for top-notch Chinese food. Sushi is a relatively new endeavor for them. (Admittedly, it isn't their specialty.) That said, Jumbo's entrées are fantastic and it's really tough to make a bad choice in this place. read more

After eating at Jumbo Seafood for many years, tonight was the last time my family and I will be going there. And, I will make it known to all my friends To never eat at Jumbo. My husband found an identified object in his chicken and string bean scallion cakes. After googling the object, I found it to be a 2" long dental floss pick with a brush on the end. Besides from being totally disgusting, my husband could have choked or scratched his throat or worse. We showed it to the hostess. She apologized and took his meal off the check. There were 5 of us there and we all were sickened by this. My husband lost his appetite and looked ill from the experience. I believe this incident was not handled well by the restaurant. This food is really good. I got a lunch special shrimp and broccoli. The broccoli was cooked well and the sauce was really good. But for an $11 lunch special I expected more than 4 shrimp. The egg drop soup was delicious. The egg roll was vegetable and normal for an egg roll. Service was very quick and the hostess was polite. I forgot to take a picture. I come here about once a month, sometimes more.... The food is always delicious... from the TOP NOTCH chicken wonton soup to the incredibly delicious string beans (served szechuan style)... you really can't have a bad dish. The restaurants staple is the scallion pancakes which are really good but very heavy. I usually get the triple delight, shrimp with lobster sauce or Mongolian beef. The chicken chow mein is nice too. Jumbo has been around for a long time, in a part of town where the average restaurant's lifespan is like a year. But I think Jumbo is going to be around for a long time. The new manager is a nice young guy and the food is always consistent. My only wish is that Jumbo update its decor. The place hasn't changed in 20 years... I guess that adds to the charm but they need to do a bit of updating (bathroom, floors, walls, etc). Either way Jumbo has a special place in my heart. TERRIBLE!!!! I don't know how this place stays in business except they popular with the older jewish crowd. Don't bother coming in here unless you are prepared for loud people sitting right next to you and terrible service. We stood in the archway waiting to be seated for 15 minutes as the staff walked by us and looked at us as if we were in their way. When we were finally seated it was another 15 minutes before someone asked if we wanted water and ran off before we could ask for anything else. Everyone acted as if it was a bother to stop and help us. I have never felt so unwanted in a restaurant. The food was ok, but the terrible service and ugly looks from the waitress/hostess was enough to take away any merit the food might have gotten. Incredibly Americanized Chinese food... While it is nice that they provide the lunch specials on weekends as well and that they are generous with their food -- soup, egg roll, and entree, the food is sub par. My friends and I ordered three of the lunch specials and shared. I got the hot and sour soup to start. The soy sauce flavor was overwhelming. I ordered the dumplings, and my friends ordered the shrimp in lobster sauce and the mongolian lamb. The dumplings did not taste good. It might be a preference thing, but I prefer them with a nice mix of veggies in addition to meat: some napa cabbage, scallions, etc. However, I think these just had ground meat in them. They also had a strange taste. The Mongolian lamb was nothing special, and the shrimp in lobster sauce was slathered in the thick, salty opaque sauce. It is what it is: a great deal on American-Chinese food. Judge it as American-Chinese food, and it's fine. Judge it as Chinese food and you'll be sorely disappointed. read more

Jumbo seafood is my go to Chinese restaurant when I don't feel like driving far and when I don't feel like guessing how the food is going to be. I have been eating here for years have only encountered one or two bad dishes. The restaurant is very small, and yes it's primary clientele is Jewish senior citizens. Regardless, the food is always tasty and always fresh. Some of my personal favorites are the scallion roll, chicken and string beans, chicken and broccoli, orange beef, and sesame salmon. The chicken corn soup is to-die-for. The portions are generous but not quite as generous as some other sit-down Chinese restaurants. Jumbo is also a little pricey for Chinese food; however, you know you are getting quality. Average price for an entrée is around $13.95. There is also a lunch special available which has a lot of the same dishes served for dinner, as well as egg roll and choice of soup for around $8.50. The one true gripe I do have with the restaurant is their newly added sushi bar. The sushi rolls are small and bland. The fish is fresh but somehow the sushi is just nothing special. read more
