Saw some review on Reddit and decided to give this place a try. Totally fabulous! Love the bright colors, vibe, tie dye shirts and all the thought and care put into a menu with something for everybody. We got there like an hour before close. They had 86d a couple items so some may want to pop in earlier if you're not flexible. Instead of the mini muffin basket we ordered the cinnamon roll. Both of us really liked it. It has the texture, density and cinnamon flavor like the classic. But the frosting is a nice mix of a sweet and touch of tart like cream cheese can be tart and delicious but not sour. Strawberries were an excellent side to this. Brought some more tart and sweet flavor to the dish. I wanted a more traditional grits, eggs and bacon meal. Stone ground grits were on point and quality of ingredients was forefront. Eggs were scrambled wet as ordered. I asked for my bacon to be so crispy that it could be used as a flag pole. They knocked it out of the park. Bacon if you stood it vertical didn't bend or sway. Just the way I like it. I also didn't find it to be too greasy like I sometimes find bacon. Their orange juice is exceptional. It is genuinely fresh squeezed. Having had fresh orange juice like squeezed right after picking from trees, I am a bit of an orange juice connoisseur and this hit the spot. Fruit bowl was fresh, ripe and plump. Definitely made same day and not premade or sitting. Partner enjoyed his tuna melt on sourdough. The cutest thing ever is that they cut a special shape out of the bread. Then it is sat atop a toothpick like thing in the sandwich. It's just adorable but I'll let you discover the shape and not spoil the surprise. The only item I would not recommend would be the latte. My decaf latte was more like decaf coffee with milk in it. I prefer a more traditional espresso shot with steamed milk. Spouse was happy with their beer choice. Excellent meal, great vibes and love the heart that has been put into this place through and through. They have loyalty cards too with fun items after so many visits. Look forward to sharing this place with family. I thought it was worth the 30+ minute drive to experience something with so many unique special qualities to it. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is covered with umbrellas. I did notice the menu had 2 items that could be ordered for pets on it. Not sure if it is for takeaway or they can dine on the patio with their people. Added level of awesome, they support a local rescue and you can bring in unopened bags of dog or cat food. When we went they really were in need of cat food. They also I believe offer a perk to each party if they bring in a bag of food. Epitome of excellent local spot and helps local animal rescue organizations. What's not to adore. read more

We had brunch at Citrus the Diner this week. Citrus continues to be our favorite breakfast/brunch place. The menu offers an array of delicious dishes. Some of the great specials eventually wind up on their menu. The specials are created by their exceptional chefs. For this meal, Bethany had the Egg Role Omelette, a special of the day. I had a veggie bowl with grits as my base. The Egg Role Omelette is described on one of the two attached photos. Neither of us left much on our plate. I like their coffee but Bethany had a peach/ginger slush...and loved it. We also had one Mimosa. They make their orange juice fresh every day....they have a machine that squeezes fresh oranges. A Mimosa is worth trying here (orange juice +champagne). Their menu is sooo good that I have tried over 50% of their items and I have never had one that I wouldn't have again. Ever. The bowls, sandwiches, omelettes, Benedict's (oooh, that lemon hollandaise sauce is good) and their specials are always worth considering. One of the few places we go to eat where I do not know what I'm going to eat before I get there. If you haven't tried it, it's easier to get seated during the week but it's worth the wait on the weekends. And there is outdoor seating now with warmer weather. I was super excited to do brunch at Citrus for Mother's Day and I'm glad we went on Saturday because I bet it will be packed tomorrow! The weather was gorgeous, so we sat outside. That was beneficial since the kids can be messy too. The food was delicious and they kept the coffee coming. I had the Inca-Mon Bowl recently, but needed to have it again. My husband loved the special omelette with prime rib, and my mom loved her bowl too. We highly recommend for breakfast, brunch, or lunch! We came here for brunch on a Sunday. Our was busy but we were say fairly quickly. We ordered the kids meal first and that came out quickly. Our lunch/ brunch was tardy, fresh and hot! We had an AMAZING breakfast on Father's Day of Prime Rib, eggs your way, home fries and not pictured a giant biscuit. It was "phenomenal " as my husband stated. Traveling through Denver NC today and Yelp lead us to Citrus. It was a wonderful experience. Our server was attentive but we were also checked on by a few servers. Second visit ever for Valentine's brunch. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly, and this is just the cutest, happiest place ever. Another great brunch this morning at Citrus. Three people at our table got the weekly specials - the Thai Pork Breakfast Bowl and the Strawberry-Mascarpone Milk Bread. Both were delicious. I ordered the pineapple upside down pancakes. By description, these pancakes should have been a home run, but they really missed the mark. The pancakes were pretty gummy and had no flavor at all. The batter was over mixed and they do not use buttermilk which cuts through gluten strands and gives an airy texture to pancakes. They tasted like they come from a pancake mix and not from scratch. I also ordered a biscuit with some gravy. I definitely preferred the biscuit and gravy over the pancakes. Their gravy had rosemary in it, which was a nice added flavor. Freshly squeezed orange juice was a nice addition to breakfast. It's a cute diner and the staff was friendly. I'd return again to try more of the menu, but I'd steer clear of the pancakes. read more

Been a couple of years since we were here and surprised we did not leave a review at the time. When we were here last, it had just opened and was very good at the time but with a few quitches common to new opening. Since then we moved to Denver NC from Cornelius NC (across Lake Norman) back in July. Went today for Brunch and it was fabulous. We arrived at around 11:30 am but were promptly seated even with Covid restrictions. Apparently we arrived at just the right time because shortly afterward, there was a wait. Our server was great and very attentive. Started with beverages and my wife went with the drink Special which was a Watermelon Mojito. I went for there Black Coffee which is outstanding. My wife went for the Chicken Pot Pie with a side Salad. She loved the Chicken Pot Pie and the Side Salad was great and she even commented that it had tomato, cucumber and other items you do not find in generic side. I had the Uncle John's Biscuit and Gravy Platter and it was great. I requested Eggs over well with hash browns and that is exactly what I got. Very good with great service. Found the location in Google and my friends that live in the area said they hadn't been but heard the food was great. We got there and waited about 30 mins. It was worth the wait! I had Marian's Favorite omelet and the hubby had Uncle John's Biscuit & Gravy Platter. I was not expecting the biscuit to be so big and fluffy... definitely homemade. The sausage gravy was excellent as well. I did taste a little sweet something qith the biscuit and gravy which was a twist, but still very good my omelet looked like all egg, which I like, versus when milk gets added. We also got Mimosas. They bring the mixer part in the glass with a small bottle of Prosecco. Our bill would have been much cheaper had we not had 2 each... yum! Our waitress was having her first day back after being out and she was phenomenal! I venture to say we'll be back to try a few other things. read more

My husband and I had a fabulous breakfast at Citrus, the Diner. We learned of them from the Lake Norman Dining Facebook group, and their menu had some appealing options we wanted to try. As of today, seating was only outside. I believe our server said they would be opening up the dining room within a week. Outside seating was either under the building's overhang or an umbrella, and was very comfortable, despite the humidity. The chairs were especially comfortable! I ordered the cheese blintzes with blueberry compote, and a side of scrambled eggs with cheddar. My husband had the hash with eggs over medium, and a biscuit. Don't let the takeout serving containers and silverware fool you into thinking this isn't a legit dining experience. My blintzes were fantastic, and the eggs were perfectly cooked, with the cheddar well blended. My husband's hash was amazing. I don't like hash because it's always too salty for me. But Citrus's is just perfect. Served over their perfect seasoned breakfast potatoes, every bite was absolutely delicious (I had a few of my own). Their biscuits are fluffy and suitable for gravy (next time!). Their coffee was nice and strong, and service was quick, friendly, and efficient. We returned once the dining room had reopened, but ended up sitting outside again for breakfast because it was so pleasant outside under the building's awning. This time, I ordered the breakfast quesadillas (comes with chorizo), and my husband ordered the huevos rancheros. Both were spectacular. I get breakfast quesadillas a lot, but none have ever had chorizo inside. This one was far superior to all other versions I've had. My husband's huevos sat atop crispy fried tortillas, and they were accompanied by black beans (tasted fresh), salsa, and guacamole. His eggs were cooked perfectly (again!), and he ate every bite. This is fast becoming one of our favorite breakfast spots. We'll definitely keep retuning! read more

Have only tried Citrus for takeout breakfasts during Covid and takeout isn't always the best way to judge a restaurant but it's all I've got so rolling with it. I have to say that we have enjoyed every bit of the food and the orders have always been correct with no "Awww man, they forgot the..." moments when getting home and unpacking. The breakfast menu covers pretty much all the bases from griddle items, lots of different meats (like the City and Country ham options for example) and eggs done however you might like including a selection of benedicts. A small but nice touch on the online menu is the ability to order the scrambled eggs hard or soft. There's always options for fried eggs at places with over x, y and z so good to see scrambled getting similar treatment. Look forward to trying some lunch items in the near future. read more

When I first saw the signage for this place I incorrectly concluded that it was a juice and/or smoothie bar. After perusals couple of Yelp reviews, I was surprised to find that despite it being located in a strip center containing several restaurants that this place was described as a diner. Curious, I took my dad there while driving through the area last week. It's really not a diner atmosphere but they do serve very nice breakfasts. I found the source of the name Citrus. They have a machine for squeezing fresh orange juice. I forgot how good freshly squeezed oranges can be. Their lunch menu is also very good as well. Two things surprised me about this very busy spot. All the folks who were working there were women as was most of the clientele. And although this place closes mid afternoon, it does have s liquor license. And although we visited on a weekday, almost a third of the ladies eating were also having a little nip! read more
