I attended a training out of state. When dinner time arrived, I searched out various restaurant and stumble across City BBQ. I'm always in the mood for BBQ even if it's not my own. I went late and that city had experience a power outage earlier. So, of course everyone was coming to pick up dinner. By the time I'd gotten their, they were running out of everything, including sides. But I was able to put something together. I really enjoyed the the food! The sauces were good too, but sellers on the Traditional sauce. I was sooo impressed by it, that for the next three days, for at least one of my meals for the day had to include City BBQ! On the last day, I went at lunch time and to get my dinner for the evening. I knew I wouldn't have time to go out because I had to take a three hour online test after class. Unfortunately, when my name was called, another gentleman that had been there before me and was waiting took my order. Of course, I heard my name but thought, I can't be the only Aaron in the world. Also, he was there before me so of course that was his order. But then I began to notice that people that came in behind me were getting their orders. So I went to the counter and he asked my name and order and he apologized because he realized that he had given my order to someone else. He then began to put my order together. Mind you, I was on a time constraint because this was lunch and I had to get to the afternoon session. When he gave me my order, he apologized again and said to give him a call later and that he wanted to make it right. I didn't fuss or complain, but I was perturbed. I called later that afternoon and he made sure he did right by this fella. It turn out that his name was Aaron too and that he is also from Michigan. Not too far from me. I definitely give City BBQ two thumbs up. I haven't visited the one in Troy yet, but will be soon. read more

Visited May 2019 6 ppl (3 adults, 2 teens and toddler) I really came in with no expectations. Coming from Memphis and not eating pork you can't have many expectations when visiting a BBQ place. Prices were reasonable ( I downloaded the app and received a discount), restaurant was clean and staff was nice and helpful. The sauce however was AWFUL. It was very vinegar-y. Just because the sauce along I can't remember how the food was. I really don't foresee myself visiting again when in the area. read more

I've been a fan of City BBQ for years, every time I drove through Columbus I would try to stop, so I was super excited to see that they are FINALLY in the Cleveland (and Akron!) area! This is definitely some of the best BBQ you will find in Cleveland. My go-to order is the pulled pork, with collard greens and either slaw or potato salad. Everyone I know loves the corn pudding, but it's too rich for me. I also enjoy the more cowbell sandwich. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, it's all good! read more

The Mac n cheese, brisket, and pulled pork are quite popular. I got the judge's sampler that included the brisket, ribs and pulled pork. They were out of chicken when I visited. All the meats were really delicious. The ribs could have fallen off the bone a bit more but they were good. The sweet city sauce was my favorite. I'm sorry that I don't have pictures of the food. We ate it I got the City Sampler. It comes with Brisket, Pulled Pork, Sausage, Turkey, Texas Toast & 2 sides. The greens & sausage were not ready. I had to substitute pulled chicken for the sausage and potato salad for the greens. While I am on the subject of the potato salad: it was AMAZING! It was not chunky, but it is delicious. It seems to have some secret ingredient in it. I can't quite put my finger on it. (I will be back with my super-taster friend) Brisket: it was good, not Mabel's good, but good. (They committed the sin of giving me a piece cut WITH the grain.) Pulled Pork & Pulled Chicken: good Turkey: Excellent/melt-in-your-mouth tender & juicy Mac & cheese: nothing special. It appears they use a cheese sauce similar to Velveeta Mac & Cheese. I am a Mac & cheese snob, other people may love it. To end on a high note: The staff was friendly, the service was quick. The food here really is delicious. But between the clientele, the dangerously slippery floors, and a leaking roof they kept falling on my head I have to give this place a 2. First and foremost there always seems to be a loud, rowdy crowd inconsiderate of other diners. That makes me not want to come here alone. While I was here I almost fell twice because the floor is so slippery with no warning at all. I won't be surprised if they get sued. 3. When I was waiting in line the roof was leaking on my head. When mentioned I didn't get an apology or anything, she just ignored me. 4. The staff isn't friendly at all. When I asked a question i was treated like an inconvenience. Visiting Beachwood,OH and stopped in this place based on a recommendation. Upon arriving, we were promptly greeted by Mamma Doreathea with a pleasant "welcome, welcome, welcome." She proceeded to then tell us about the menu items and then even suggested the best way to structure our order. At the same time, she was sure to welcome the next guests and let them know she would be with them as soon as she finished with our order. These days it's sooo hard to experience such outstanding customer service--and with a smile. Mamma loves her job and she loves her guests. It's simply amazing! The restaurant was clean, and the other team members were also pleasant even while only having limited customer engagement as they were preparing the food, etc. If you are in the area, you should definitely go and have this experience. I was very disappointed going to this barbecue restaurant. I heard mixed reviews about. so I wanted to tried for myself. The ribs was ok. My problem was the sides. Oh my god!!! I ordered collard greens (not 1, but 2). The greens was so salt, you would think they used the entire container of salt. The macaroni and cheese tasted horrible. The cornbread some how got soggy from the greens. Usually, I'm the one complain about the food first. Not this time. My daughter beat me to it. And she was right!!! Poor customer service. Due to Covid we've been doing curbside pickup. Out of the 2 recent times we ordered from this particular location, they've messed up the order both. The first time I had to drive back and pick up my missing order, the second time I just refused to drive back so I called to get a refund. There were no apologies whatsoever and the person on the phone couldn't wait to get me off the phone. Rather than getting my order number to make it right he asked for my credit card number and said ok bye. We would order frequently from here before but now I don't recommend it to anyone. read more

My wife and I live in the area and are big into brisket. Mabel's has been are go-to place, but it's downtown and we were looking for brisket that could compete with it. Enter City BBQ. After reading the reviews, we were a bit skeptical, but City BBQ did not disappoint. It was Saturday at 7:00p when I picked up my food from an online order (super easy), and the food was ready on time. The brisket was a mix of lean and fatty, but did not have much burnt ends. My family is a big fan of City Barbeque. Typically, we call ahead and get our order to-go because this location seems to always be poppin' - which is awesome for them. We love City Barbeque for its meat lover menu and style of cooking. Eating their food feels like eating great home cooking from an old friend. They also have wonderful catering that I've had at local parties/events. It hits the spot in such a satisfying way. The pulled chicken is always juicy and crave-worthy. You really can't go wrong with any of the sides. Total honesty, it's been hit-or-miss for us with the ribs. They either are cooked perfectly tender and falling off the bone beautifully or are very tough to get off the bone and then awkwardly sit in our fridge for days. When they are cooked well they are absolutely delicious! You can't beat their sauces and flavor combos. Hoping they streamline the ribs soon because we love them! read more

I went for dinner about an hour and a half before they closed and they were OUT of EVERYTHING except brisket (which was cold) and the sausage (also cold). They didn't even have hush puppies. I'd like to give this place an honest review, but I don't think I can based on the service. A friend picked up an order from them and brought it over to my house. When we opened the bags, we discovered there was no barbecue sauce. It's hard to judge how the ribs and brisket tasted, because there was no sauce to pour on them. So I ate dry ribs and brisket. Maybe they would've tasted great with the sauce, but I don't know. They also didn't give me any cornbread even though I ordered and paid for it. Awful service. read more

As part of the "pick two meats" option, we ordered brisket that was nearly inedible due to how dry it was. (It was more like beef jerky than fresh barbecue.) In addition, we ordered a side of corn pudding that also was very dry and not at all fresh. In truth, this lack if freshness is not at all uncommon at this restaurant and one if the reasons we much prefer eating at Mabel's, Michael Simon's new barbecue restaurant a couple of miles from your place. Making things worse, we had a $5 online credit for my wife's birthday that the app did not accept, and when I went into the restaurant pick up the food, a woman behind the counter said there was nothing they could do about it. All in all, it was an underwhelming experience. With the ever increasing cost of eating out, we are likely to choose other options in the future. Wow finally the South East side has a great BbQ joint right on Chagrin Blvd , the old Ruby Tuesday. I like this place a lot , it has a great variety of choices of meats . I had the pulled pork sandwich comes dry and you add your own sauce from their wonderful selection of sauces on the condiments counter. I also had the greens which were just right a little on the vinegar side which was great. I drank the juice out of the cup the greens come in that's when you know there good. My daughter had this huge pice of chocolate cake which was very moist . We had Hush puppies wonderful breading on them. They sell bottled soda , and fountain drinks. They have the paper towel setups on all the tables for your clean up. Nice decor and staff super friendly. The cashier seen my Aunt was a senior and gave her a 10 per cent senior discount. My husband and I enjoyed our visit to City Barbeque. The food and service were both pretty good. This was our first time visiting so the cashier recommended that we taste test a few the sides before making our decision. The funny thing is, I was actually saying before we arrived that I wanted to taste test sides before ordering. They read my mind! We both got the Pick 2 Meats, 1 fries and 1 baked beans. After looking at the menu again, we realized we should have just got the Judge Sampler and it would have saved us money. Either way, the ribs were good but just too much fat for me. My husband said his ribs didn't have much fat, so I guess it's hit or miss. The brisket had good flavor but was a bit dry and overcooked. The delicious sauces fixed that problem but I don't always want sauce on my barbecue. The baked beans were good but a little too sweet. We both loved the fries. Used City BBQ to cater my husbands and I 25th Wedding Anniversary. The catering for 80 people was a little expensive but the ladies were on time and ready to serve dinner when we wanted. My guest loved the food. The ladies did a great job of taking care of my guest. The set up and cleaned up for us. The big down side was we had food left over, quite a bit because we had some people cancel and no show at the last minute. The unused food was put in the kitchen and the rest was boxed up. The ladies told us before they left where our food was but failed to tell us what was and was not refrigerated. This food has been at our hall for 2 and a half hours with them and we were so busy with guest that I did not give thought to what was and was not refrigerated. By time we got home and the food put in our fridge it has been over 5 hours. The next day I went to fix some lunch and the coleslaw was already bad and some other food items were off. I called about what happened and the store manager did not want to hear that the ladies never told me what was and was not refrigerated. I explained that this was a good safety issue and I was going to give away or donate food but now I need to throw it out and wasting food is wrong. The manager had every excuse the workers were not familiar with the hall, they did not know there was a fridge, then there was soda in the fridge. Long story short he did not want to work with me for some type of credit for the wasted food. So I would say do not use them for catering because at the end of the even food safety is an issue. read more

Great food. The wait to get food was pretty long (it was Friday night) we waited about 45 minutes. The cashier (doretha) was so awesome? She was so friendly and patient with us. She really lifted our spirits after waiting for 45 minutes! When you get your food you have to find a table, we thought that would be a problem, but it wasn't. We found a table as soon as we went into the dining area. I loved the variety of sauces available. The brisket and pulled pork were really good The ribs were amazing as well. I wasn't too fond of the turkey, it tasted like lunch meat to me. I would not recommend the macaroni and cheese, it needs a do over. The potato salad was really good as were the greens.
