This is the 4rh City BBQ that we have tried and this was one of the best of the 4. The line was long but moved quickly and the wait for our order was minimal. The Suaces were all decent and I really enjoy the Sweet. Taste great on the French fries. The Cornbread was a little overdone, but it happens and I'm not holding that against them. The green beans were salty and I think my blood pressure recognized that, but they were tasty. We will visit again and try the desserts. This was my first time going to this resturant. What attracted me was the smell of greens in the parking lot across from Big Lots. I decided to go in, the cashier was very poliet and she had people skills (if you know what I mean); any way I order 1/2 slab of ribs, pint greens, pint string beans, and a pint of Mac and cheese. Just received my order. I had high expectations. Im a native clevelander but been in LA for nearly a decade so I was intrigued by a somewhat new BBQ place in beachwood. The menu sounds great. Ribs, smoked brisket, mac, greens, baked beans, chocolate cake...... I was keen on trying something new. I usually choose BM's and my go to. My last experience there, the food was FIRE but the service was sketchy so I considered it a open relationship lately. I was free to try new things..... THE FOOD I received..... and cost nearly $50. 2 small sliced portions of brisket in paper trays wrapped in butcher paper. 3 ribs wrapped the same way. 3 very small sides in paper cups. 2 tiny sauces about the size of a fast food sauce. And chocolate cake. First bite- MAC N CHEESE: Awful. Completely awful. Who decided that boiled macaroni and cheese sauce without baking it was appropriate for BBQ. Please invest in a focus group or a employee tasting review. It's downright disrespectful. I would like to know the motives behind this......it can't be because it's good. It's not..... One bite, throw it in the trash. Next, highly anticipated SMOKED BRIST which says it's smoked daily for 18 hours. .... It looked delicious. It tasted a step above HORRIBLE. The first bites was so dry and felt crumbly in my mouth. The sauce came on the side in a little cup the size of sauce from McDonalds .... It looked like it was sliced a long time ago. The menu says sliced to order. I don't believe that. The first sliced was dry on one side. The others in the middle were a bit more moist. It was weirdly salty- like it was salted after the fact. Moving on..... there was greens and baked beans and ribs left so I had hopes of enjoying the latter half of the meal. The GREENS - tender, flavorful, lots of vinegar which almost made it not so great. It was fairly decent. I would not complain. The BAKED BEANS: disappointing because I don't remember ever eating baked beans I didn't like. These tasted like eating beans baked in complete BBQ sauce. Maybe that's what it's suppose to be like? It was just very sweet....I could only eat 2 bites. The RIBS: The Universe was looking out for me. These actually tasted fresh, juicy, moist, fall of the bone. These didn't have any sauce on them which was a slightly disappointing and it felt inconvenient to use a tiny sauce cup to spread on and trying to dip a rib felt ridiculous. The CHOCOLATE Cake- looks something from the grocery store. I believe it was $5. It was a sheet cake with icing on top and lots of mini choc chips on top. It was very crumbly - my son had a hard time eating it. Although it was crumbly it wasn't too dry - it was borderline. The frosting light and fluffy and not dense and overly sweet which was a nice surprise. HOWEVER - after a few bites I had to stop...... IT TASTED OVERWHELMINGLY LIKE SALT! My son who would like to live off cake, donuts and cookies.. and oh- steak....thought it tasted like salt too. Someone who doesn't like sweets made this...... I'm assuming because if you love cake like I do- you wouldn't set so many people up for dissatisfaction. The weight on your conscience would be too much. You don't f$ck with peoples chocolate cake. Remember what happened to Brucie? Don't do it. Fix your chocolate cake recipe or just take it off the menu. Or maybe find a local bakery to source from please..... NO NAPKINS OR SILVERWARE given when you order Doordash apparently. This is a rude concept for restaurants. If someone is ordering takeout they obviously don't want to do dishes....for just a few cents you could add napkins and silverware. The quality of the rest of your takeout packaging isn't that great so 500 forks would cost $15 a box no? I'll stick to B&Ms BBQ for now. They don't have the best service but it's better priced and the BBQ tastes fresh every time I go......been there more than 20 times over the years. read more

The absolute worst experience pre-ordering food on the website and zero follow-through or apology by the store manager. I ordered food for employees at the nearby hospital & chose an 11:15 delivery to give plenty of time for me to set up the food for their luncheon. I called at 11:20 to find out if the delivery was on the way. Unapologetically, I was told the food was still being made & they "didn't control what time the driver would deliver the food". If I were flexible on the time of the delivery, I would have ordered food through Ubereats or DoorDash. I ordered through City BBQ's site expecting that they would honor my 15minute window chosen delivery time .. or even close. 45 minutes later, I had to send one of the employees we were honoring to go get the food themselves. City BBQ should close down for awhile and regroup. they aren't prepared for the demands that COVID19 has placed on them. I ordered online and I guess there is a disconnect between online ordering and reality. For instance, you can order something online but that doesn't guarantee that it is actually available. I ordered the basic bbq stuff(brisket, pulled pork, chicken). When I arrived it was a cluster****. The manager(?) was yelling at all her staff, completely overwhelmed. There was no curbside pickup in place, there was no social distancing being maintained, the staff were not wearing masks and were often touching their faces. On top of this, they were out of almost everything. No ribs, pork, turkey, chicken! After 45 mins in a very crowded lobby They just asked everyone to take a refund. They had completely given up any sense of running a restaurant. I love City BBQ and I'll be back but not until things get back to somewhat normal. read more

Manager makes it right but how many times does he have to make it right and apologize for his employees because they forget items for carry out order?!?! Staff is supposed to go over your order when doing carry out before you walk out but they don't. Was excited to try this place once it opened. Went with my father and he got pulled pork sandwich while i got pulled chicken. You can get sandwiches on Texas toast or regular buns. We got the regular buns, plan crappy white bread buns. Meat looked and tasted like boiled or steamed meat. They have a selection of bbq sauces to put on, which helps the taste. I would check the bottles carefully before using them, apparently they don't clean them. When I went to squirt it out, it was blocked. It then exploded out all over my brand new coat, staining it. When we were leaving and the girl working asked how things were, I told her what happened. She just said "Oh". No apology or can I do anything, nothing. The food is ok at best. If you want barbecue better off going to Oak and Embers. I don't believe my bad experience is a reflection on City Barbecue as a whole and do feel they want to provide a good experience. I believe that efforts now will be made to ensure others do not have the same bad experience. The manager is very nice and takes pride in her work and was upset to hear what happened.*** I hired them to cater my wedding. The service was a 1 star. I made an initial complaint including not serving all of the appetizers to guests and not wanting to serve the cake to guests even though I paid extra. I did hear back from them and they reimbursed some money, but then I found out several other disturbing events like the caterers allowing venue staff to take home a large portion of the leftover food. I have them on video filling up to-go containers and the caterers are allowing it to happen while they stand there. Also, the food was served almost cold. It was not hot and I had many guests complain. Also, the appetizers were poured out of Giant Eagle bags onto trays in front of guests and only a 1/3 of what I ordered was served. No fancy display at all and they false advertise in their photos. DO NOT BOOK them if you want a professional experience on your wedding day. The staff was rude also and I had to start cutting my own wedding cake. Now City Barbecue wants to ignore me. read more

Brisket, pulled pork and sausage are very good. Turkey is ok. Sides are very good - baked beans, green beans, mac and cheese and more. Good selection of bottled drinks and fountain drinks. Many choices of barbecue sauce. There is a dining room with multiple seating options, and they do a brisk take out business. Overall, my only negative is consistency. Sometimes the proteins are served fresh and warm, sometimes not. Little things - plates and silverware and barbecue sauce not available. We went here on Veteran's Day as they had a special. I have also been told this is great BBQ and to make sure I try it some time. The food was excellent. I loved the different sauces (which is surprisingly hard to find places that have multiple sauces in Cleveland). So my husband go a sandwich and we also shared my dinner. Overall we tried: brisket, pulled pork, chicken, mac and cheese, greens, and fries. Greens were amazing and familar to how my grandfather would cook them growing up. I have been a fan of City Barbeque since I first ate it in Columbus. Their food is solid. Period. The smoke actually comes out of the building. This is no faux-bbq place. Their pulled pork is completely delicious as are the hush puppies and green beans. And they have a full range of sauces whether you like sweet or smoky or spicy or mild. I personally love the Firestarter sauce because it has nice heat and hang time. Great place to take the family because there is something for everyone. We settled for a table full of crumbs - easy for us to wipe off. Other tables had dried up BBQ sauce on them, dirty napkins on the seat, etc. Chicken Leg & Thigh was posted at $5.99. I added two sides, potato salad and cornbread - total for my lunch was $9.47. Husband had pork sandwich on a bun - $6.79. Meats were something to talk about. Sides were "normal" - nothing special. Went to the bathroom (what a mistake that was). Accidentally walked into the men room. Stall had poo everywhere - went to next area and the urinal was filthy. Ran to woman's room (another stupid mistake). Not only was poo on the seat, but it was on the back of the toilet - on the tank. Held my pee, washed the BBQ sauce off my hands and left without even saying a word to my husband. Never looked at floor of restaurant.... was too scared too. Would love to go back for take out chicken - but am scared to think about how the kitchen is cleaned and what's going on back there..... I need a new BBQ place. The layout and design is inviting, the seating is comfortable and attractive, the service very friendly, helpful and efficient. The menu had varied barbecue items. I was really looking forward to my first meal, until it was delivered. The corn bread had no corn taste and may not have been cooked properly. It was inedible. I did eat all my green beans, but they were institutional, school cafeteria quality. Not unpleasant, but you wouldn't order them again. Some of the brisket was juicy and tasty, and some was dry and over cooked. I didn't bother finishing my under flavored and over cooked ribs. As someone who has had ribs from Texas to Tennessee, I am not sure these ribs deserve the name. I want to find a positive note to end. The portions and value per pound is good. Just tried City BBQ for the first time. Ordered it to be delivered via Grubhub despite people rating that they only get the order correct 64% of the time. Believe it or not, after our order was delivered with less than what we ordered, that number is going down. How do you expect to stay in business when you can't fulfill a simple order? It doesn't matter how good your food is, when you eliminate a major aspect of your revenue stream (delivery), you've stacked the chips against yourself. I'd rather receive a full order of subpar food than a half order of great food. Get your stuff together City BBQ before you follow in the footsteps of the Ruby Tuesday's you replaced.
