The food at this location in Greenville at Woodruff Rd. was great! It was actually what the food tasted like when they opened in Buford, Ga. The food was fresh and the brisket was cooked just right. It was raining, so I placed a curbside order online. I would have put drive thru pickup but I wasn't sure if they'd have a line. As it turned out, they weren't busy. I waited 15 mins in my car for my order before I walked in to check. Sure enough, my order was on the counter, getting cold. The receipt was clearly marked curbside, and when I questioned it I was told it had just been put there, but not so as the fries were already chewy. If you don't want to service curbside, don't offer it. Oh, and the Not a Sloppy Joe sandwich was nothing like it was when I ordered it previously when dining in. Was passing through on the way to Florida and was craving BBQ. City BBQ was near our hotel so decided to check it out. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed. I ordered Texas toast and that was missing from my order. No napkins or utensils. I ordered ranch on the side and I got another sauce. Both the corn pudding and okra were okay. We didn't even get the chance to order. As soon as we walked in, a woman behind the counter came over and immediately started barking at my kids for climbing on the small rail in front of the counter. I fully understand that kids shouldn't be climbing, but there's a respectful way to handle situations like that. Her tone was harsh, rude, and completely unnecessary. First impressions matter, and this one was enough for us to turn around and walk right back out. I have had City BBQ 4-5 times since they arrived. It always is very tasty and I think price/value is outstanding. Standouts for me RIBS, Cole Slaw, Collards, but everything else is more than fine, including a great selection of sauces! They have an outstanding Store Manager. We had a carryout order that went slightly awry and he more than made up for the error. That went a long way with me. One tiny criticism, the traffic flow directions around the building are a little confusing, but hardly a problem considering the quality of the food. read more

This is our favorite bbq restaurant but there seems to be quality control and expediting issues for take out and delivery. We have been regular, long-term customers since their opening. The last 3 orders have been missing items, and on Valentine's Day, the food was about the worst, a $3.99 cornbread that should have been discarded instead of being sold, which looked as though it had been stepped on, reheated and overcooked and was flat, nothing like their normal cornbread, which is excellent. Each of the 3 banana puddings were different unto themselves, the individual banana pudding weighed 7 ounces, with 4.5 ounces being bananas with a slight coating of pudding, which was nothing but a bowl of bananas. The second quart weighed 10 ounces, and had been dumped from something else as the whip cream was on the bottom. The third banana pudding weighed 13 ounces and looked a hot mess with no topping or butter drizzle. The last I checked, a quart is 32 ounces, not 23 ounces. The banana puddings used to arrive packed to the lid, not half full and today were missing the stickers on the lids. The flavor was off and was too sweet. I feel they have the best pudding in town. Presentation was terrible, quality was fair. cornbread was inedible. The chocolate cake was smashed on the top corner and missing icing. We have been ordering from City BBQ since their opening, but we have become disheartened by the past few orders. read more

Repeat customer here. That alone should say something in a place like Greenville where you could eat at a different place for weeks on end. I had their burnt ends offering today and the strawberries and cream cobbler. Both were great tasting options. My wife had the turkey sandwich. She loves how thick the slices of turkey are. The sweet tea / unsweetened tea combo (self serve) always hits the spot. The Lo Co (yellow BBQ sauce) is the sauce of choice for my wife. I like the Original. The service was friendly as always and the ambiance was relaxed. Great music playing overhead is great. Would love to have some live music at this place but really no spot for that I guess. Ok Folks went to City Barbeque for the First Time and wasn't impressed by the Food. Our choice was the Judge's Platter, and it was not in the Top Tier. First the Meats were cold and the sides (mac and cheese were like cement. Collards were all stems and Potatoe salad had no mustard. Now the Okra and Hushpuppies were very good. Not Banana Pudding either. Really thought it being Saturday around 7pm might be hot and tasty. I can only hope things improve and I think they will. With all the bbq competition in this area this one is greatly lacking at least for my taste. Plenty of folks like it but the pork was tasteless and the brisket was too as well as fatty. Went to city BBQ today. Got a two meat plate included one side. I got brisket and pulled pork with Mac and cheese and a Pepsi for 25.35 including tax. The brisket had a great smoke ring and smoke flavor ,the pork was ok not much a smoke flavor, and the Mac and cheese was very good and their Texas toast was awesome extremly fresh . Be aware they have limited parking but you can park over in the northern tools parking lot if you can't find a spot. Met one of the managers Mike and he was very cordial and explained a lot of the history. They have 5 different sauces brush fire (hot) Low country mustard sauce with some heat, original bbq sauce,sweet city, and swine wine vinagar based sauce. This place was a staple when they first opened, then they went through a tough patch...but my last visit there last week was back at 5 stars. City Bbq catered a wedding at my venue this past Saturday and I can best describe the experience and food as perfection! The catering staff took care of hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour which was a beautiful charcuterie setup. They also took care of the dinner. Their service was 5+ star. The food was the perfect temperature and taste was outstanding! As a venue owner I was pleased to see how courteous they were. They left the catering area clean and even left a care package for the bride and groom. I look for to having City BBQ back to the venue! read more

First time here, Start with parking, very strange lot design. Hard to figure out where to turn, about have to go around the building and back. Came a little before 2 pm, about 10 people in the dining room and 1 person bussing tables. Wasn't sure how they had servers or not so decided I would just get to go. Person taking order while nice was very frantic- She was doing drive through window and front counter. Would really have wanted to find out more about the food and place- Could tell she really needed to get back to drive window. Ordered BBQ sandwich and Baked Beans Meat on sandwich was quite good, maybe to much bark for an individual sandwich- over all happy with quality for the price, Bun doesn't hold up very well to take home to eat. Nice if they were toasted in m a griddle. Baked Beans- now , these were horrible, all I taste is a lot of sugar . Like they add some bbq sauce to sugar water- The brisket inside was so over cooked and tasteless- They should after creating a new recipe for the bakes beans take the brisket scraps and fold in after beans are cooked- Looks like brisket scraps were cooked or reheated with whatever bean procedure they have. Hi City Barbeque Management, If you are not going to bother to have a manager actually run your restaurant, don't open it. I am standing in the place right and there are at least 30 people waiting for their orders. Not a single manager is taking charge to show their first-time-in-the-workforce employees what to do and how to act with any urgency. Oh, and put your "pretend" wood inside before it rains. Food is decent but expensive. Go to one of the local BBQ places in town for better food at a better price. The cornbread was the most bland cornbread I'd ever tasted. Parking is also an issue. There's only an handful of spots available for a building that can hold more than parking allows for. The restaurant was very clean with staff working around the beverage area to keep things clean and organized. Local barbecue in the Carolina's just sets a high bar and City's greasy pulled pork just didn't measure up. read more
