My family of four traveled from Newberry, SC, and we truly enjoyed our meal at Whole Smoke Family Restaurant! Everything was cooked to perfection. The salmon was flavorful, the ribs were incredibly tender with just the right hint of smoky flavor, and the wings were delicious. The meat was literally falling off the bone! The HUGE baked potato was loaded, perfectly cooked, and more than enough to satisfy. The food was fresh, the portions were generous, and the service made us feel right at home. I've been there several times and tried several things. They were all amazing. The atmosphere is great. It was just remodeled.

Arrived on a Wednesday around 1pm for a business lunch. Not very crowded. Place was quiet. The owner is a character. Checked in us a few times before, during and after our meal. Nice touch. The food was great - both the brisket and the pork. Our only issue - the food was not very hot when we got it. It did take a fairly long time for them to call our number - probably 20 minutes. I am guessing one item was not ready and the rest of the food sat. My colleague had the same experience. We also got their wings with the Texas gold spicy. So stuffed, could only eat one. We went here last week on the first night they reopened since the fire, and it was so good. The service was great, we were greeted with someone opening the door, and staff and family were very welcoming. The decor is very simple but nice and clean. We walked up to the counter and had to decide on what we wanted with a large menu of items to choose from. I had the Brisket plate with the baked beans and the blackberry cobbler, and it was delicious. The brisket was cooked to perfection, the beans were a little simple but were tasty, and the cobbler was so damn good I would go back just for that. We both devoured our plates, and as we were leaving, the owner shook our hands and was very nice. All in all, a great meal with great Southern hospitality. We will be back! read more

Had dinner there yesterday evening. Food is amazing! James the owner chatted with us while we waited for our food to arrive. He is passionate about his bbq! Meats are chopped and sliced to order- he says that's how they are so moist. Meats have the right amount of smoke flavor- and nice smoke ring on the outside of the meats. I had brisket and pork. This place is fantastic. Upon exiting my car I smelled the smoker out back and knew I was in for a great lunch. The person working the counter was super helpful in picking out my selections. As you can see from the pic, I hit a mountain of food for $26 including tip! Unbelievable value. The meats were tremendous. Got the sausage and brisket and was not disappointed. Texas gold sauce is what they're known for and it was one of the better sauces I've ever had. Tangy and sweet. Coleslaw was exactly how I like it. Not too creamy and a big serving. This is a good restaurant and food truck. I visited the restaurant for some Texas style beef brisket. Which I did get, although I should have paid attention since I expected sliced brisket and got chopped brisket. The menu is very extensive and quite cluttered. Since I knew what I wanted, the choice was easy, but the menu at first glance is overwhelming. Order at the counter, seat yourself and wait until your number is called. This place is set up to serve a lot of people and quickly, with a large dining room, split into two sections, and a designated aisle for the line to form runs between the sections down the middle of the restaurant. The brisket came with two sides and choice of roll or cornbread. The cornbread is "sweet", I was told, so that is not for me, went with the roll. I requested the hot sauce, which they call "hot damn." The portion filled one side of a styrofoam take out container with the other side compartments containing baked beans and collard greens - my side choices. The sauce was sweet with a little heat. Brisket was tender and lean and juicy - very good. Collards had a little heat, in a good way, with some banana peppers mixed in and the beans also had a bit of sweet heat - all good things. The only real downside to me was eating at a dining room table but having to do so out of a Styrofoam container with a flimsy plastic fork. Apparently, all orders are prepared as if "to go." That, and it cost me $18 and some change, including the $0.35 for my Styrofoam water cup. read more

The sweet potato crunch was out of this world! Green beans were also really good. The sauces were excellent! We had fabulous red velvet cake for dessert. Absolutely DELICIOUS southern cooking. Meats were very tender and their original sauce was out of this world. Every side dish was equally outstanding. The sweet potato crunch was especially delicious. Many of the very tasty sides have no meat in them (vegetarian) but you wouldn't know it. Sweet staff is the only reason I'm giving it to stars. So far for lunch. I been waiting 22 minutes to get my order. When it came out, my fries were cold, undercooked and limp. It would not be such a big deal if I didn't order them crispy and well drained. My pulled pork sandwich was full of fat and I had to ask them to give me lean barbecue to replace the Fatty-Q. The replacement sandwich I got looks much better, and the fries are better as well. It seems as though the fire temperature must be set to low as the fry some selves or not crispy. The past three times I've been there, either the food was bad or the business was closed when the hours posted stated it would be open. $15 and not enjoy my meal does not heighten my desire to go back. They were very busy and the girl at the counter was doing her best to multitask with to go orders taking inside orders, delivering food, she was very polite and thankful for our patience. What can I say negative about a place if you roll there back to back days for dinner? This place is very nice. Great selection of foods and desserts. The staff there is very cool. Day one - pork spare ribs with greens and zucchini and squash with cornbread.... Outstanding! Day two - salmon with sautéed shrimp with grits and greens... fabulous! A very clean and COVID-sensitive place to dine. They were meticulous about disinfecting tables and had mask signs everywhere. I appreciate their commitment to health during this time. My husband really enjoyed his bbq sandwiches and thought it had great flavor and was an exceptionally good sandwich. I truly appreciate that there is a vegan option. When I asked about sides the person assisting me repeated twice that their sides contain no meat products. As a vegan, I do not eat dairy or eggs and didn't feel like I had good clarity around which sides were vegetarian or vegan. It would be nice if the vegan sides (if there are any) are clearly marked and that everyone working understands the distinction. It's a good drive from me but Id certainly go again, especially if I had more clarity around what on the menu is vegan friendly vs simply vegetarian. read more
