Visiting from the DC area. There are very few bbq joints in DC that are worth going to. This place is fantastic. We dined in. Four of us. Lickin' our lips from start to finish. Brisket, ribs and pulled pork were incredible. BBQ sauces were great. Only one I didn't try was the most firey because I know better. Loved the fountain lemonade. Manager gave us a complimentary peach cobbler and banana pudding. I give them 5 honest stars on every item we ordered including coleslaw, brisket baked beans and corn bread. It's a shame what has happened here. When it first opened it was a wonderful place for bbq. The last two times we have dined there they have been out of food. All they had tonight was chicken turkey and brisket. Nothing else. To add I don't think it's appropriate for employees to have their own food on the front line eating while preparing food for public consumption. I feel this place has fallen and for now I'll take a break and possibly think twice before ever coming here again. Between the lack of food, the quality of what food they serve, and the manner at which they causally eat while serving others forces me to eat elsewhere. If this continues I doubt they'll be in business for long. Let a health inspection catch them eating and see where that goes. Sorry but this place is a mess. read more

Located next the Fresh Market, it is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. All parking is across a main traffic lane. The handicapped spaces are along the side lot, again across a traffic lane. The ramp to the sidewalk is at the corner, so you will need to travel to the corner, then turn to the front door. This is not under control of the restaurant but is worth noting if you are mobility impaired. There is a nice patio out front with umbrella tables but it is not fenced off. Walking into the restaurant, the ordering counter is in the rear. The menu is overhead. Seating is all tables and they are well-spaced to moving around is easy. We were greeted as we came to the rear and placed our order quickly. The various bbq sauces are along the side near the drink station, along with other condiments and utensils. Make a stop here to get what you need before finding your seat. The food came out in about five minutes. They do call your name but will bring the food to your table if you raise your hand. The pulled pork sandwich meal is decent size and has a good amount of meat. There are no other additions to the sandwich (i.e. pickles, etc.) but those are available at the condiment counter so you can dress it up as you wish. The meat was moist but not wet and had good flavor. The bun is soft but held up well without falling apart. The Sweet City BBQ sauce was a nice addition. The mac and cheese had a baked cheese topping. It was not overly creamy and was a good accompaniment to the sandwich. The Lolo's pork sandwich meal added slaw to the regular pork sandwich. Again, the sandwich was of decent size and had a good amount of meat. The slaw was a nice touch. Adding the Brush Fire sauce really upped the flavor. The heat from the sauce was countered by the slaw and made for a really nice experience. The baked beans side had a couple small pieces of brisket and a strong bbq flavor. City BBQ is a nice addition to the local restaurant offerings and is a good option for a quick lunch or dinner. read more

New place in Johnson City and won't be back. The customer service was good, but that's about as a good as it got. For a placed called City Barbeque, the food was atrocious. $3 up charge for brisket is absurd considering the portion size given to you. Plus the food was not fresh as most of it was cold. The chicken was in this "bama" sauce which tasted horrible. The sausage is mediocre (and uncut is insane). The only good things were the fries and mac and cheese which isn't a good to be known for your sides only. Overpriced, portions sizes for the price is not good. Some of the worst BBQ i've had in TN. With other BBQ spots in town, definitely will not be back. read more

Solidly ok. The good: Mary the cashier started off our experience with excellence and pleasant ordering experience. Good prices and choices of both meats, sides, and dessert. Overall good for what we paid. The not so good: Limited seating. Feels like you have to hover over other diners waiting to pounce on a table as soon as there is any indication it is freeing. Definitely wouldn't recommend for parties over 4. Although To go family packs might look like the way to go. Smoke was almost undetectable on the meat, at least to this Deep South guy who prefers the heavy smoke flavor. Solid bbq place. The ribs were good all the food was hot, the brisket chili had large pieces of brisket and good flavor. My husband even liked the potato salad. Insanely busy, could barely find a place to sit and we ended up leaving because it was so loud. On top of that, the pulled pork is an affront to southern barbecue, it was incredibly overcooked leaving it chewy and too fatty (along with 0 Smokey flavor). The people were nice and very helpful; the atmosphere was fast-food, not barbeque joint; the music was sometimes nice at first but it became loud and screaming. It was too cold inside so we sat outside on the patio. The potato salad was good and I took the leftovers home. The baked beans were baked beans. The fried okra was sitting in a puddle of grease. The hush puppies were also sitting in grease, but they were SO GOOD I didn't care! The ribs were fine; they were no better than something you'd find in any restaurant that sells ribs, but they were fine. The brisket sandwich was a HUGE disappointment! The worst thing is it had NO marbling whatsoever; they let you choose "fatty" or "not fatty" but the fat isn't marbling (which makes a good brisket juicy and tender), it was just a layer of fat around the edges. And why did they cut long slices of meat (maybe 12 inches) and lay it across a regular hamburger bun so most of it is sticking out in the air GETTING COLD? The meat belongs in the bun; that's what the bun is for. A good marbled brisket doesn't need sauce, but their brisket does so I tried the "original"; it tasted like it came out of a jar from the grocery store. Sigh. So... bottom line... the hush puppies were great, the potato salad was good, and the rest of it... what we really went for... was a huge disappointment. read more

Where do I start?! First off,there's not enough seating. We drove from Greeneville to specifically patronize this restaurant. Service was adequate. They do not serve your food in or on a plate. It is served on parchment paper. Not sure how sanitary that is,not to mention,I'm not a fan of eating "paper". My wife ordered a "loaded potato". It was the size of a lemon. She ended up sharing in a small portion of my meal in order to be satisfied. My meal consisted of two meats and two sides. I chose pulled pork and a leg quarter chicken. Hush puppies and fries. Sweet tea for a drink. I tried out two of the sauces. Sweet and original. No bragging on sauces. Pulled pork was stranded and a bit tough. Chicken had a good flavor too it and was satisfactory..thats all..satisfactory. Fries were cold. Hush puppies were the best part along with some really good Sweet tea. All in all..was not as good an experience as I had hoped. I was quite honestly,very disappointed for having driven 45 plus minutes to get there and then had to wait on a place to sit down to eat. I am NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL. MOST LIKELY won't be going back. As crazy as it may sound,we have patronized "Buddy's" BBQ in Morristown for awhile and will continue to do so. I have been talking this place up since they started saying it was going to be a barbecue place. I told my granddaughter you should apply to work there it looks like it's going to be a nice new business place for young people to work. So I'm older lady and I tried to place my order online and I'm not computer savvy and my credit card wouldn't go through. I called the store and spoke with Jeremiah he informed me that that's the only way he could help me if I ordered online I told him I was having trouble he said there was plenty of older people that made their orders without trouble. That just did it for me I said wow I won't be going there after I've been looking forward to going there for weeks. Customer service is very very important. If someone makes me upset and doesn't try to help me why do I want to come in and try their food.
