I could taste that great smoke from earlier and they had a good crunch. However the dry rub didn't have much flavor and the barbecue sauces were okay but nothing special. Also the celery was pretty skinny and flimsy. I did have a few bites of the pulled pork and it was nice and tender. If I come back, I would definitely stick to the smoked meats. read more

We were in Greeneville for a festival. The place was continually busy so we thought we would try it. I have had Texas BBQ, Memphis BBQ, Dreamland (!! IYKYK), South Carolina, and Delta BBQ. I am old fashioned - I like baked beans (brown sugar & molasses) and slaw and potato salad with my BBQ. Their slaw was vinegary, no potato salad on the menu and the beans are navy beans in some kind of ketchup served in a cup. The meat was dry and without flavor. My DIL and I couldn't finish. The saving grace was the appetizers and the pimento cheese and the 4-5 kinds of BBQ sauce. I went to ETSU so I don't think this is typical East TN BBQ. read more

This BBQ establishment is without a doubt the best BBQ restaurant I have been to in a very long time, possibly EVER! Disclaimer: I have only eaten here twice, but both visits have been extraordinary! So maybe we just got lucky? I doubt it. I say this because both times, the quality was of equal measure. Plus, I have eaten at their JC location and similarly, it was very much the same, i.e., Delicious. As further testament, we enjoyed it so much that we drove up the second time, from Knoxville which is a full 90 minute drive, explicitly just to eat here. As a comparison, for those who like Calhoun's in Knoxville, the quality control of their meat prep is far superior. For example, at Calhoun's, I find roughly 25% of the time, I either have to request a meat swap out or wish that I had (due to dried out/over cooked meat, or super fatty content, etc.). Also, hands down, SC portion sizes are far more generous! The ambiance between the two establishments is quite comparable but the beer selection at SC (we drink the IPA) is a notch above. The wait staff we had, the two times we visited, were The Best! The first time, we were served by Harley--highly cheerful and full of southern charm. The second visit we were served by Autumn--warm hearted and super nurturing. Both were Exceptional at their jobs! We begged Autumn to convince her management to open a location in Knoxville--pointing to Yee-Haw Brewing as a highly successful model for branching into this area. So, here's my pitch: What with the new stadium opening soon, the revitalization of the Downtown-East Area (with affordable real estate remaining off of Magnolia Ave) combined with a lack of great BBQ in the downtown area--sorry Sweet Pea's, albeit very good food, a super tiny estab. with major parking challenge$--the downtown area is ripe for the taking. In the meantime, we will have to find excuses for making the trip to Greeneville for when we want to eat truly GREAT (and not just pretty good) BBQ! Although I have been to Southern craft barbecue many times yesterday was the first to indulge in their Sunday brunch. I had the brisket biscuit and gravy meal. The brisket was so flavorful and it had the most amazing Bark on it, I really wish there were more than three pieces because it was that good. The biscuits are pretty large and tasted really good and the gravy was pretty good as well. I'm not gonna say the best gravy I've had But it was decent. I ordered my eggs over easy and at first I was a little disappointed as my yolks were completely cooked but luckily I like cook yolks as well so I just made it work and I was fine with it. I do wish the meal as a whole was a little hotter as it seemed very cool so I'm not really sure if it just sat out for a while before they brought it to my table, but it was still good and I really enjoyed it. I will say this meal is $20 which I do feel is a little on the high side although even with that being said, I would definitely have it again and I left completely full so much so that I couldn't eat for the rest of the day. Deviled eggs made by local orphanage children I'm pretty sure. Just shit food all around yet sold at golf standard prices. I can make better food at home and I'm not even a good cook. Also I'm pretty sure the 5 reviews are from employees of some sorts. Listen to the negative reviews and save yourself from throwing away good money here. Order was perfect & ready when we arrived. Cucumber/Tomato/Onion Salad - Very Good, cold, crisp & fresh. Vegetable (recommended by order rep on phone) - Very good & tasty, well seasoned. Salmon (paid $4 extra on the Tennessee Trio) was well prepared & very good. Now for some honest, tough love! Macaroni & cheese - dry with no cheese sauce discernable. Fried Okra - mushy & salty to the point of inedible. Brisket - dry, grey & flaky - not appetizing to look at or eat . Ribs - all char on both sides to the point of being black. So dry they were like bad, burned jerky. Took photo if interested. Sauce was so spicy my mouth had blisters. Sad to say, we were looking for a great BBQ experience but not so much. Passing by tonight so decided to stop. We had brisket which was very good and sausage that was a little spicy. The ribs were outstanding, very tender. The beans were served in a mug with a spoon which I really appreciated -very good. The tomatoes and cucumber salad was sweet with a little heat. Mac and cheese and tater tots just average.
