My husband's family has been coming here for years. They've always loved the food and it continues to be good. I'm vegetarian but could still enjoy grilled cheese on wheat berry bread. The fried okra was the best I've ever had. The breading was perfectly crisp and beautifully seasoned. It melted in your mouth while the okra burst with flavor. No notes on those fried okra. Perfection. My only frustration is one I have most everywhere in Tennessee - the take out containers and cups are Styrofoam. read more

We live close to this restaurant so we have utilize this restaurant on a regular basis. For the most part we have had a pleasant experience up until now . I recently picked up an to go order late in the day, 30 minutes before closing time. When I first walked in the young girl at the register seemed very frustrated that I walked in to place the order. She proceeded to ask what I wanted to order. She spoke very quietly so I couldn't understand her when she asked if I wanted pork or chicken. When I didn't answer right away she gave the other girl standing with her a look and she in returned gave me a look. I apologize to them both and stated I couldn't understand what was said. After taking payment for my order I went and sat at a booth that was so dirty my arms stuck to the table all the while the staff kept staring at me which made the whole ordeal awkward. We had planned to use them to cater a wedding for my daughter but after my experience today, I can honestly say I won't be returning,, as the customer service for this visit in my opinion was horrible. I have worked with the public many years and I know how hard it can be sometimes. Regardless of the circumstances a customer should never be made to feel like they are a nuisance. I am sorry but I have to give this visit a low rating due to customer service. read more

My biggest complaint about this restaurant is when you go in to place a order to go, when you go to pay they automatically ask for a tip! For what!?! Like you actually just placed my food in a bag and handed it to me. That's your job, and you expect a tip for that!?! The food is average. The last couple time we ate there our food has been cold and I ordered a grilled chicken salad usually they are wonderful but they gave me a salad with pulled pork and the wrong dressing. I was already home when I oped the bag to discover the mistake. read more

Excellent food. Cheeseburger with fries and Texas toast. Perfectly cooked. The seasoning on the fries is awesome and not overly salty. You must must must try the house sauce. The hot and spicy sauce is great too. Employees are friendly and the prices are good for the amount of food you get. We drove all the way to Kingsport to try this only restaurant. Needless to say I was to embarrassed to either ask for a refund or talk to the cook. My brisket was so dry it was black and I didn't want to be a Karen so we threw it away and left. So embarrassing and also ashamed of the lack of cleaning also. Stopped here for lunch while making calls in TN and a great choice. Had the dry rub wings with brisket platter and plenty of food at a great price. Wings had a great flavor and were juicy and brisket was a tad fatty but good flavor. Had the baked beans as a side and were flavored well. Come here for the brisket, stay for the green beans! Friendly family business atmosphere, complimented by solid barbecue. I wanted to sample both the brisket and the ribs. There wasn't a straight option on the menu but they made accommodations. The ribs did require a little extra sauce,but the brisket was solid and the green beans are probably the best I've had. Best BBQ in Kingsport. We tried a number of items including the pulled pork, the brisket, slaw, baked beans, ect. Everything was delicious.

We came here because they had a 4.5 star rating. Let me start with the good; beans were very good, as was the cole slaw. The homemade chips were good as well. The banana pudding fab. The sauces are very good, although the honey, bold and house are fairly close to each other. Carolina was one of the best I've had. Now onto the meats. Brisket was not good. I asked when I first walked in what was fresh off the smoker and he said brisket. It was dry and chewy. Also, sliced thin as a potato chip. Wife had the ribs...no discernible rub, lack of flavor in the meat and not cooked correctly. Pulled pork was dry and stringy. Turkey was dry as could be. Atmosphere was nice, clean store, friendly service and seemed to be busy. Hope that we had a bad experience on a Monday. Summary- My wife said, "I'd come here for the sides". My friend and I split a full rack of ribs and the pulled pork dinner. The ribs: I got the really nice and meaty bones of the rack, his weren't as nice; my ribs weren't fatty, just meaty goodness.... not covered in bbq sauce either. instead, you get to choose from a selection of five bbq sauces (house, hot and spicy, honey, dark(?), and something else...) The pork: decent flavor, and like my ribs, not fatty The sides: baked beans (good if you like beans); homemade chips (great!); fries (great!); texas toast (buttered bread??) and bbq coleslaw (bleh: vinegary and gross [to me] but good if you like vinegared cabbage..) The drinks: no alcohol served! but great fountain soda :) (~$30 excluding tax and tip for the ribs, pork, sides, and two sodas) this place came recommended from a stranger on the airplane. Reid was working the counter when me and 3 coworkers arrived for lunch. Not able to get good BBQ in Massachusetts, we asked him for recommendations. He was spot on. The food was excellent and the service cheerful, welcoming and efficient. I got the turkey with 2 sides - BBQ slaw and BBQ beans. Excellent. I really hate to give this place a medium rating since the service was great and the people were so nice to me and my friends as we were traveling through town. This place was recommended by some local friends, so we decided to check it out. In the end this place was OK. Maybe I was just expecting too much being from California and thinking that real Tennessee BBQ would be earth-shatteringly different from what I can get back home. The BBQ is good, not great. Based on reco's I was expecting this place to be great. The St. Louis style ribs were kind of grey. When I see BBQ smoked ribs I expect to see some of the pink ring, which was not there. To me, the flavor and texture was more like oven cooked ribs rather than smoked. The rub was tasty but very light. Some people prefer lighter rubs, but I like lots of flavor. The pulled pork was dried out and again, a little bland. The 5 different BBQ sauces were I nice touch. I really liked the hot & spicy. The homemade potato chips were great. The rest of the sides I tasted were fine, nothing wrong with them, but again kind of plain. The fries were like any chain restaurant, and the beans were can-like (I'm fine with beans in a can, but you can get those anywhere and they're just - meh). Now this is more than a Barbecue place. Especially if you like good inspirational music. My first time there was about 4 years ago. I was having a typical outside sales day. I was listening to WCQR radio station in my car and pulled in for a quick sandwich. When I got my food and sat down , I realized they had the same music playing, Troy and Barry came over and talked with me and I didn't leave for about an hour. My Spirit was full and so was my belly. I'm not from the south originally, but I moved here and for my first day of work my boss took me here. The food is inexpensive but delicious. The meat is fresh from local vendors and I found it to be moist even when served naked or 'dry'. They have a variety of in-house sauces that are 'authentic' (I love their Carolina sauce) to go with their bbq meats. They have decent burgers, decent hot dogs, their sides are nice and simple. My wife's grandparents are natives of Tennessee, and we went to lunch with them just a few days ago here (their first time) and they loved the authenticity. The real charm of the place is the staff. The owner has been at the front, ringing us up every time, greets us with a smile and sees us off with a goodbye. It's informal and warm the whole time you're there. Don't try and go at 12pm, the crowd from Eastman Chemical makes a line out the door. Highly recommended. read more

I used to frequent this place more often, but it seemed to lose its luster for me. I finally decided to give it a chance again today since last time was such a flop and it's been months since my last visit. My county has a mask mandate so of course my family and I wear our mask in the place. Once inside I discover none of the employees are wearing a mask. When I asked why they replied with they hadn't been pushing it the whole time. Of course hearing that makes me wonder about other things they are lax on. I've worked a few restaurants before and usually head coverings are part of state regulations. I noticed the employees on the food prep areas not wearing and hair coverings or gloves. We stopped in a few days ago and got a bbq sandwich (which maybe had at the most 2 ounces of bbq on it!) and a brisket sandwich (that was mostly fat) the pasta salad had no flavor at all. This used to be my favorite bbq spot. Just seems very hit and miss lately. Today I had the small turkey with fries. There was only enough bbq to cover half the bun today. Very small portion size today. My wife went in to pick up the order and was greeted with an employee who was having I a bad day I suppose. We all have off days, but seems like every other time I come here it's off. Not sure what happened with quality and service. I'll continue to be a patron, but I hope the service and quality bounce back to a level I have come to expect. read more

This is my favorite barbeque place in Kingsport. The barbeque is very good. I like less greasy or lean meet so this is the place. They also have homemade chips. If you show up and there is a line, get in it. It will go fast and by the time you order a table will open up. I was in Kingsport this week for business and wanted something good. Saw this little gem on Yelp and made the treck over from the hotel. I am very glad I did. I am from Texas originally, so BBQ is all about the smoke. The brisket (new item for them) was moist and had a deep smoky flavor. Not only did they give me more than I originally asked for, the guy also met our lead singer and went back and made him a special order, then delivered it!! So I have been to this place twice and my conclusion is: it's fabulous. The first time I came, the manager or owner was there, and he brought out food, brought out utensils, and anything else that anyone would need. Not only that, he was extremely nice and helpful. The girls that were running the food along with the register were also on top of it. Very generous and courteous. Now to the food. The first time I was here I ordered the brisket sandwich and man was it good. The pork tasted so fresh and had that great barbecue sent and flavor. This time I ordered the 1/4 ribs along with the green beans and the homemade chips. Not to mention there were two perfectly toasted pieces of bread that went along with this meal. The ribs were cooked to perfection. Not too wet, not too dry. And I thought the portions of the food that I received with this plate or very solid. And of course my favorite, a big Styrofoam cup of sweet tea on the run. I don't think you could ask for a better place to eat lunch on any given day then this place.
