As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with the kind of hospitality that feels rare these days--our server didn't just take our order, he guided us through the menu like a sub-savvy tour guide. Super helpful, super kind. I'm now officially in a committed relationship with the California Club--both me and my oldest were sold from the first bite. When I am traveling I like to find a local sandwich shop for lunch so as I am driving down Western Ave I see this place called City Bites, it had a lot of cars so I figured it must be good! I had the 6" Italian with chips and a water for $10.51 and wow was it good! On the way out I told this guy it was my first time in and the sandwich was fantastic, so he said thanks and let me "buy" you a cookie, didn't expect that but I will be back when I'm in town again! read more

How did I forget about this joint? I had them growing up in Tulsa and pretty much turned the car around when I saw it in OKC. I am a huge fan of a good cold cut sandwich and these guys do it right. While most City Bites are great, this location is very poorly run and screams the need for a management overhaul. I've only been here on weekends, so perhaps weekdays are better, but it's a consistent under-performer on Saturdays and Sundays. Most recently, we ordered 4 sandwiches for dine-in, and after a lengthy wait, we were told the bread we'd ordered was frozen and "had not been taken out by the people in back." Fine, we changed bread to something they had. After another lengthy wait--over 30 minutes total--we finally got our food, although mine was barely more than bread and lettuce (see picture). An OKC favorite that I grew up on, and which hasn't wavered in its awesomeness over the years. Some of the best sandwiches in town, on delicious fresh-baked bread - with a particular standout being Mesquite Chicken. But you really can't go wrong with any of the offerings. Killer kids meals which they'll kindly serve up to anyone with a smaller appetite. The pizza bites, concocted on their amazing French bread, are childhood favorites that you still can't go wrong with. And a great bargain, with chips and a drink thrown in for just over 5 bucks. The loaded baked potatoes are also crave-worthy. Be forewarned though - they're know to sell out! If you're going to enjoy one alongside a sandwich you're wise to share, because they're hefty. The interior of the restaurant is whimsical with lots of nooks and crannies to sit in and fun touches like a giant Dalmatian's paw towering down from the ceiling. Another amusing touch comes from the bathrooms- which have mirrored windows where you can see out but no one can see in. The bathroom is a trip - one wall is a two-way mirror and it feels like people are watching you go to the bathroom. It's a little crazy, so just beware. I love the freshness of the food and the variety. What I didn't expect to love was their incredible effort to find me when I left my purse there at lunch one day. Our team had lunch there and I left my purse on the back of the chair. I didn't think about it until I was trying to head for home and no purse and car keys. I called and they said they had it in their safe. When I went to pick it up, they said they had tried to take it to my house but no one was home. Visited City Bites for lunch. Was pleasantly surprised they had a gluten free bread option. I ate the tuna salad sandwich. The tuna salad was made just right! How has City Bites not gone national? They always get it right and this location, nestled in Nichols Hills, is perhaps the best. How is Potbelly such a big deal when City Bites is like, 1000 times better? I could write a pop song about this bread, and the Cali is just about as good as it gets in my book, but I do ranch instead of mayo - try it. I just don't know of any other place in town that is just as likely to please grandparents as kiddos; a high school dance troop or a bunch of construction workers. Everyone can get what they want, substitutions are no problem, special requests seem welcome. They certainly must take good care of their staff because their staff takes such good care of their customers. In twenty plus years of eating here, I've never tired of it, never had bad experiences, never wished it to be better than it is. Side note, I love City Bites even more when I'm pregnant because I get a sandwich, plus I let myself get a cookie! Chocolate chip for the win! When I pick up lunch to take back to the office, it is always City Bites on North Western. You cannot beat their food. They knocked my socks off with a tuna salad on shredded lettuce last week. City Bites is a great locally owned chain of sub shops. The bread is always fresh and so are the toppings. The stores are always a little quirky on the decor and each one is unique. Service is always friendly and fast. The stores are always very clean. The menu has the staples you would expect and each one is customizable. They have five bread choices. I like the jalapeño cheddar and the sun-dried tomato breads. They also have white, wheat, and an everything breads. In addition to the regular menu items they always have at least one seasonal or special item that is always unique. For instance, in November they offer the Thanksgiving Spud. It is a HUGE baked potato with sea salt on the outside and topped generously with stuffing, tons of turkey, and a delicious brown gravy. It is incredible! read more

Yum. I feel like City Bites is a very underrated sandwich chain. Their sandwiches are delicious of course, but their baked potatoes and cookies - amazing. I've had the peanut butter drizzle cookie and the pumpkin cookie recently...the pumpkin cookie was almost like a pumpkin cake/bread texture, but very good. I love the baked potato with grilled chicken and cheese and ranch and whatever else they pile on. I remember the first time I went to City Bites, I thought, "Wow, that much for a baked potato? What if I just want that as a side for my sandwich?" Yeah, the baked potatoes are actually the size of your face - definitely not side dish-size. I recently had the turkey garden gobbler sandwich on everything wheat bread, and that grilled veggie mix - YUM. I am so glad I got the garden gobbler as opposed to the plain turkey melt. I have vegetarian friends in OKC who have trouble finding good veggie mixes in restaurants, but City Bites' is delicious! It was our first time there, so we where not familiar with the menu, I felt rushed by the staff to ordered. The food was good, the tables however where a bit dirty, the place was not busy so the tables should have been clean. My hubby got some water from the soda machine and it tasted too much like chlorine. The ice tea was delicious! We'll give it another try... someday. read more

I don't like leaving negative reviews, but we were dissappointed by a couple of things. Only half of their employees were wearing face coverings. The lady who took our order only decided to put hers on when she saw we were wearing ours. There was another employee who was wearing a mask, but it was tucked under his chin while he was preparing food. Another lady handling cash & cards at the drive through area wasn't wearing a mask. It was very inconsistent. Regarding the food... I liked my salad, but my husband was dissappointed with his Philly. He didn't realize it wasn't a traditional Philly. He was expecting steak, cheese and grilled peppers. This one had shredded letuce & tomatoes, and the peppers and onions were chopped up insteas of sliced, and it was almost as if they were pickled. He didn't like it. We enjoyed the ambiance of the place (it has a lot of character), but we don't think we'll come back. If you're serving or preparing food during a PANDEMIC, you should be wearing a face mask (appropriately). Even fast food restaurants know that. read more

Found this place after eating at All About Cha. My taste buds weren't satisfied after eating there so I came here. Absolutely delicious!! The baked potato was HUGE and packed with so many things. It was amazingly flavorful. And I'm a big fan of baked potatoes. I'd definitely say this is high up there. The staff was okay. Not great. I went to the counter and waited for quite a bit even though a guy saw me waiting and did nothing lol. I had to actually go to this side door and peek inside until the woman saw me and came out.
