They won't give you a refund after booking. Very sketchy. Luckily chase was able to dispute my charge

Did a boozy Sunday cruise for a friend's birthday, and we had a really fun time. Had our own table with a great view of the Bay, and our server (just for the bottomless mimosas) was funny/friendly! Honestly, it's pricier than I would have liked, but between the 7 of us, we finished 14 bottles of champagne and had multiple rounds of food. All in all, I'd say it was worth it in the end. :) Would I do it again? Probably not - once was enough for me.

The Golden Gate was 1 hour, and the Bridge to Bridge was 1.5 hours. The Bridge to Bridge has few times, so check their website to find one that works for your schedule. On the boat, there is a bar, popcorn, and snacks you can buy. There is a bathroom, although I didn't use it. There are several floors and the lowest floor with the bar has tables. As you enter, if you need the narration in another language, get the headset. By default, over the loudspeaker is English. The first boat trip I did was more crowded on the top deck with more people talking loudly, so I missed about 1/4th of the narration. The volume was never too loud or painful, but with people talking loudly, you will miss it unless you move closer to the speaker. Biggest tips: Wear a jacket and dress warmly if you plan to sit on the top, open air deck. It is extremely windy. Also, having a hair tie is helpful, so you don't have hair blowing in your face. It can be pretty smooth but by the Bay Bridge, the wind makes the water rougher, so you may want to take a motion sickness medicine if you are sensitive. Staff was friendly from the ticket booth to the people at the end telling your goodbye. Nice boat tour!

It was very easy to communicate with the owner, Eliot of Compass Rose Yacht Charter. He was willing to adjust the time of departure to our needs and it turned out perfect! Instructions were clear on where to park and our meeting place. We were greeted at the gate by a crew member and directed to the Voyager. The yacht is comfortable and clean and the cabin is spacious enough for our group of about twenty people. Captain Richard was very professional and the crew was friendly and helpful. There is a bar with coffee, tea, water and soft drinks. When we arrived at the designated scattering spot, the crew passed out flower petals to mark the site. Cheryl directed us where and how to scatter the ashes. We also brought a flower reef (created with paper tape), that was also tossed at the spot. The boat slowly circled the site several times, allowing us time for our final thoughts. Total time of our journey was about 1.5 hours, enough time for any speakers or formalities. The price was very reasonable, compared to other, more organized options. My friends and family all agreed and we highly recommend Compass Rose Yacht Charters.

I cannot say enough about the experience I had on the "San Francisco Bay Sunset Cruise by Luxury…read moreCatamaran" this past Sunday. During a solo getaway last weekend, on a whim and after much research, I landed on this option a day prior, after. I must say, this nailed everything I was seeking. First, let's start with the woman in their office (wish I got her name) who was the sweetest. I called panicked that I may be running late/not at the dock before the 6:30pm cruise (as I got the start time mixed up with another provider I was looking at). She instantly put me at ease, assuring me I'd be fine. When I arrived at Pier 39, not knowing to head towards the DOCK on the LEFT (vs. through the main thoroughfare mobbed with crowds), I panicked again and called once more...but hung up as soon as I spotted the door to the dock. Later, found out later this wonderful woman had called back/left me a voicemail just from seeing the missed call, to make sure I was ok! It's customer service like this that really enhances the experience. Same as the crew on board - there I was, out of breath and barely making it on by 6:30pm, greeted by Lisa..just her vibe instantly shifted me into a more relaxed mode. The cruise is quite punctual; we departed very close to 6:30pm...but she never made me feel worse than I was upon arrival. It didn't stop there - on the boat was Michael at the helm, and Devon who was just a delight. For someone who deals with tourists/customers every day, you can still feel genuine joy exude out of him. Both he and Lisa were SO accommodating to the guests - offering to take photos, helping with snacks/drinks in the galley (1 drink comes free with cost of ticket, and there are actual decent choices! And low prices for anything additional you want to consume). Towards the end, he greeted each and every one of us with a basket of assorted chocolates. How can you not smile? The cruise itself was...perfect. Comfortable number of guests allowed all of us to move around at take photos at every angle at leisure. The route and time of cruise was fantastic (in 6 years living in SF I've never seen the Golden Gate Bridge THIS up close; it took my breath away). Seriously, SO many incredible photo ops, especially on a clear day like this last Sunday. Unanticipated chill from the winds and splashing water were helped by jackets for everyone to borrow as needed. Still too chilly? If you decide to take a load off inside, there is plenty of seating by their small bar/eating area, which I found surprisingly relaxing. Again I'm SO so pleased I chose Adventure Cat. I noticed it may be slightly more than other competitors (I paid $99) but rest assured, WELL worth it for the catamaran experience, and one that's not too crowded. But again kudos to the customer service; I really was quite impressed and hope the entire crew sees this, because you helped make this such an unforgettable experience for me.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Backroads throughout my past 5 experiences with them…read more This highly anticipated hike in Yosemite did not meet my expectations right from the start. Other trips included guest numbers of between 9-11 with 2 guides and one support guide. This trip had 19 with the same ratio of a team. Pretty forgivable until you factored in there were only 2 vans with 21 of us crammed during each of the long distances between each hotel and hike. The longest drive was, as expected, between our San Francisco meet-up for the 4 hour drive to the park. Two vans made for a very squished drive for many of us. The first hotel, a one-night stay, found us in a parking lot facing room. For the $$$ Backroads costs, I expect more than the cheapest view in the hotel. I expect a room with a view. I wouldn't book a room on my own without a view, and I expected more on our first night. Our first night Backroads reception, something that is a tradition and combines meeting our fellow hikers with an included cocktail and nice dinner, did not happen. We were led to a lonely back room of the hotel. Here, dressed in our finery, we waited to be greeted with an offering of a cocktail. Instead, set up in the corner of this dank room was a server with a few bottles of wine. Confused, a few of us went to the bar and purchased our own drinks. Those who wanted a second glass of wine you were out of luck because the server closed up shop before one had a chance to ask. Our guides arrived and began to stumble through an explanation as to why we weren't having our dinners inside of the hotel: something to do with the hotel confusing our Backroads trip with another Backroads trip that is also on property. The bottom line was that the hotel could not accommodate our dinner choices. We were cordially invited to join the barbecue that was taking place for the Backroads biker group. We traipsed around the chilly outside of the hotel in our finery, down to a picnic area set up with picnic tables, a buffet, and a lot of families with their children running around having a grand time. We were instructed to pick up a tin tray with a paper plate and begin our choosing from the tables of food. Basically, we were met with the leavings of the previous Backroads barbecue. No freshly stocked trays. The hamburger/hot dog tray held at least an inch of grease with a few sad looking hot dogs and hamburgers. The salads were picked over. The dessert tray held toppled over dregs of cakes. My husband, who typically goes with the flow, was even more shocked than me. We took ourselves to the hotel restaurant, with its very ample available seating, and bought our own drinks and dinner. It was great. My issue is this: this option of dining in the restaurant instead of the barbecue was not offered. It should have been. This isn't a low brow touring company. The extra cost of their guests dining independently should have been eaten by Backroads. Not on us. The next day, not a word was mentioned by the guides about the previous night's fiasco. I spoke to the support guide about it on my own. She was stunned to learn about the whole affair as she was not present for it. She must have spoken to the guides about it because, later on, the guides brought it up with apologies. Yet, no mention was made of reimbursement of our dinner. The remainder of the trip was Backroads great. The guides are always tip-top, the variety of snacks are set up with flare, the park hotels are always special. The Yosemite hikes are spectacular. I contacted Backroads via email two times about my issues. I have never had to complain about their trips, but I felt that there is a discernible slip in the quality of their product. I asked to be called via phone so that I could have a dialogue with someone. I never received a call. Instead, all of us on the group received an email apologizing for the terrible first night's confusion, and we are offered a $250. credit good for two years towards a future Backroads trip. I am not finding this an acceptable peace offering. Actually, I would have preferred my reimbursement of $200. that we spent on our first night's dinner and a phone call. We have paid in full for another Backroads trip coming up on September. This will be the make-or-break for us. I think that had we not paid for this trip, we would be looking for a different tour group. There were enough small signs that show a slip in service and a cut in costs. I spoke to many of us on this trip, some experienced Backroaders and some brand new. There was a noticeable disgruntled atmosphere regarding the tight vans. One guest told me she ate only a baked potato at the barbecue. Another told me she ate one sausage. Many keep their disappointments to themselves. I asked around. Backroads needs to step up to the plate to ensure a better product in the future.
