This place used to be so good when Michelle owned it, and I went there for 17 years. But the new owner, Hanna, is super rude and worse, has very limited skills. I recently had blond highlights done there but didn't realize til I got home how bad they were. The dye had leaked out of the foils and created blobs all around my head under the top layer (which is why I didn't see it initially). I returned and politely asked for my money back -- it will need to be color corrected but there's no way I'd trust this place to fix it. Hanna first told me that was what I got for just asking for "just one color" (isn't that what highlights are?), then got very angry when I asked for a refund. She shouted at me, "NO MONEY BACK!" And offered to fix it for $30. Are you kidding me? Mess my hair up, blame me, don't refund my $90, and then offer to fix your mess up for an additional fee? Don't waste your time and money here--these people don't know what they're doing, and are insulting and rude on top of it. RIP, City Hair & Nails. This place is awesome. Honestly Nina and her husband steals the show, they are simply amazing people and the service is top notch. I stumbled upon their shop due to convenience and was blown away by the service. I would give them 5 stars but being a dancer, my nails has to look good and withstand the worst possible conditions which I know is possible because this isn't my first rodeo. I paid $100 for my usual mani and pedi sets, by the second day the top paint chipped which I told them about and they were willing to fix it for me at no charge. I thought that was the end of my issues but other nails began doing the same thing and eventually started to break off. It's only been a week and my entire right hand looks like two months worth of damage. Sad to say that I am disappointed and will not be returning to this establishment. The salon has been updated, is very comfortable. Nina and Ricky always make you feel like friends. I have had both the gel and SNS manicures and have never been disappointed. I had had artificial nails before coming to Nina. They were in really bad shape. Nina worked with me to get them healthy again. Would never go anywhere else. Nina and Ricky are very nice people. Funny and personable. Their work and product however is meh at best. Their nails break often and they give a gentle excuse for why they didn't hold up. The last excuse I was told was I was wearing my nails too long. They weren't. I stopped going. Recently their new tech was offering a promo since she needed "models". I decided to give them a try again. However, I found out as she started my nails that she had never done a set of acrylics before, she needed practice not models! (I sent the pic of what I wanted when I set appt so they all knew beforehand). It took three hours and three people to get a lumpy, uneven beginner set of nails almost done. I had to help her through the steps. No 2 nails were alike. I had to come back the next day to finish with Nina. 2 days later one of the nails broke. They would not fix it for free. If you are looking for quality work that will last, look elsewhere. read more

Vonda understands me. When I talk to her for 15 minutes, eagerly point at pictures of haircuts that have little in common, also insisting on some other nervous requirements, she knows what to do. "I want a bob!" and she'll say "Oh that would look cute on you :)" or "I am growing it out now, please don't cut it but cut it please so it's healthy and grows faster?" and she'll say "Okay, dear." She loves that I say I need a "light dusting" when I'm growing out the length. She laughs when I point at the front of my head and say "these guys don't listen to me." Is my hair feeling "heavy"? Vonda will handle it! Do I want my face to look softer? Vonda knows what to do for that, too! And when I wanted something special for my birthday, Vonda made that happen (with some intermittent guidance). Bear in mind, I don't get my hair colored or highlighted; besides wanting it healthy and shiny, I don't ask for much. I've tried other fancy shmancy places in town, and $40+ dollars usually gets me the haircut they think I need. For $25 I get someone who listens to me and gives me the haircut I want! She even corrected some villager bangs I got while visiting home once. Oh that was a bad time. Michelle's a sweetie, too. She handles SO's hair and eyebrows and he always looks delicious afterwards, and not like he just got a cut. Both do haircuts, and two other folks do pedi/manis. Tried this nail salon in my neighborhood for the first time. So far so good...we'll see how well my pedi holds up and I may increase my stars. This was the first time a man did my pedi...kinda weird...kinda creepy, but he gives a great foot/calf massage. Maybe the best pedi massage ever. It was quiet and relaxing and I was able to read without the usual annoying chit chat at most nail salons. It was a bit pricier than the other nail salons I've used, but if it holds up, it's worth it. read more

I have been going to City Hair and Nails for the past 3+ years. Michelle was the best hair cutter ever.... 5 stars. Sadly, she recently sold the business to another lady and today I tried the new owner/hair cutter. Bad experience is an understatement! When she was finished, I looked at my hair and it was all gapped up. Total mess. Sadly, the lady did not even acknowledge or seem to understand the situation. I repeatedly ask if she was the hair dresser on the license, and she said yes. I am not so sure she was honest and the picture was of a much younger woman. I went just down the street and stopped by another shop and hair cutter. The lady at the next establishment said since the new owner took over at City, there has been a flock of customers coming in to fix her mistakes. She said the only option to fix the deep gaps was to take the hair much shorter than usual. I am now almost bald but it's hair and it will grow back. Beware if you dare..... The best place ever! I just moved to the Austin area and had a very bad experience two weeks before at another nail place so I saw that City hair and nails is right around the corner from where I live. I've been here for 8 months now because of the older management didn't have a sign out front i never knew they were there. Now there's a flashy sign out front and it made me notice them lol. Nina and her husband are so nice and sweet and very sincere. I can tell when people are being fake and they arnt at all! I would reccomend this place to every one! And will be coming back for now on. Warning!!!!!! I used to go to hair & city nails until they charged my debit card nine times for $70.00 which came out to $600.00. I was overdrafted by $300 in my account. I have my go to nail salon that's close to where I work. But I was in need of a manicure at 5pm on a a Saturday and they were open. First major concern is the tools that were in the autoclave bag. The bag still had tape on the opening and clearly had not been sanitized. As some one who works in the medical field I know the difference. Second was the color I chose was not what I got on my nails. It was like the polish was old or watered down, it was a similar color but dull and not bright. Even after 3 coats a few of my nails have almost see threw areas. I brought this to the manicurists attention and was basically ignored. The 2 stars are only because they were open late on a Saturday. I should have run seeing as no one was there getting their nails done. Will definitely not be returning. read more
