Buffets are hit and miss - you can't come on a slow night and expect everything to be hot and fresh. If you come during a busy time, everything is much better. We visited this Friday night and everything was wonderful. The general tso was soft and tender, the buffalo chicken wings were fall off the bone, the steak and veggies was like butter. So good. My favorite thing to do is to start off with a plate of sushi, even though there's no raw fish in any of the versions on the buffet. And then I like to put in a plate for the hibachi chef with rice noodles, shrimp all of the veggies and don't forget to ask for eggs with spicy Mongolian sauce. read more

Start off by addressing the fact that I can't leave a 0 star review because that's what it would be. Me my pregnant fiancé, my mom and some of my cousins came and ate here before going to the drive in theater the food was cold and tasted like chemicals. I am writing this review after my fiancé and I got sick then got word that the other four of the party we were with are all sick from food poisoning. The staff was not friendly at all. Absolutely unacceptable experience at City King Buffet - Mount Sterling, KY. I normally don't leave reviews like this, but this place earned it. I would literally give them 0 Stars if I could!!!! First off, half of the food was cold, which was already disappointing. But that's not even the worst part. While we were dining, I found what looked like a piece of balloon or rubber inside my egg roll. Yes -- actual foreign material in my food. I have photos and kept the piece. Then, my 13-year-old brother slipped and fell on a wet floor where there were NO wet floor signs at all. I was walking right behind him holding my 6-month-old baby. It could have just as easily been me falling with my baby in my arms. Instead, it was my little brother who ended up hurt. Not only did no one apologize or show any concern, but the woman at the front counter was extremely rude when we brought it up. She actually tried to fight us on paying the entire bill -- even after I made it very clear we were not paying for this mess. Their solution? A pathetic $10 off a $70 bill like nothing happened. No apology. No manager stepping in. No basic human decency. This is both a food safety issue and a liability issue. They have cameras that clearly show what happened, and trust me -- this isn't over. I'll be filing a complaint with the health department and pursuing this further. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place. If they can't keep their floors safe or their food clean, they shouldn't be serving the public. read more

This is the typical Chinese buffet with many of the same choices as any other. They do have Hibachi and it was stocked with many choices. The cook fixed mine exactly as I asked and it was very good. Everything that I tried from the buffet was flavorful and seemed fresh, there was nothing that really wowed me it was just the typical fare from a Chinese buffet. The service was pretty good, our server kept our used dishes cleared but never asked if we needed a refill on our drinks. I ate here traveling through and would again if I were there. Went in today with 11yr old granddaughter and because this weekend is the big October Court days in Mt. Sterling I was charged double. They charged fir her as adult. Price gagging is crazy. $40 well it wasn't worth it. Food was cold and hard. Lady at payout was rude. read more

We give City King Buffet 5 stars because of many reasons. They always have a wide variety of DELICIOUS and FRESH food choices. As well as hibachi which is always amazing. The owners and the staff are very friendly and make you feel at home. The servers are welcoming and quick to clear finished plates and provide refills. The restaurant is clean (as are the restrooms). Disgusting !! The lady behind the payment desk went on a sneezing spree out in the front of the restaurant- did NOT cover her mouth / nose at all! Then she went behind the counter in full view and hacked up two loogies and spit them into the trash can . She then sneezed again , spat again , NEVER WASHED HER HANDS OR USED SANITIZER , and began to touch the handles of some of the food. The most disgusting thing I've ever witnessed . My nephew chose this restaurant for his graduation dinner lastnight. Myself along with ten of my family members were directed to the "party section" without being told ahead of time that their would be an extra charge for sitting there. The food was old, hard, & just overall GROSS! They didn't refill our drinks when needed & we were constantly being rushed the whole time we were there. When the bill came, they had added an additional $30 "tip" without our knowledge. When I confronted them, the lady behind the pay counter was rude while explaining why this "tip" had been added. She explained that the reason they added the extra charge was because of the amount of people we had with us & because we sat in the party section (that we never asked for). She stated that all "high end" restaurants do this (they do not). Apparently they consider themselves a high end restaurant when City King Buffet isn't high end! Went on Mother's Day and it was awesome. This place was packed which allowed for the food to be constantly replenished. Everything I tried was served at that moment and tasted good and fresh. Everything in the buffet is typical Chinese fare, I think what made it better was that it was a holiday and more people than usual were there. Waitress was nice and promptly refilled drink. Instead of paying at the table you pay on the way out. Although it was a holiday the wait was less than 10minutes and people quickly came in and out. The food was hard and nasty. Went to pay for 2 adults and 8 yr old cost was 55.83 when looked at receipt charged an unknown tip on it. Went back in an confronted cashier he was rude and hostle because we demanded the money back. When giving the money he tried to wrongfully take he said for us not to return. Buyers beware, during a packed night on valentines day yesterday I noticed the pepper chicken my girl had on her plate was undercooked and raw, after she ate a bite. I proceeded to notify the staff and they immediately began to lie to my face making excuses for the raw meat. Told me it was from a "red sauce" in the way it was cooked. The pepper chicken is just grilled chicken with pepper added, if it was pink colored it was a result of being undercooked and raw, I have cooked enough chicken to know what cooked white meat should resemble and that chicken was raw. The establishment will be reported to the Montgomery County health department as I am not the only customer who has had undercooked food there, previous review in past 4 months proves my point as that other customer had food poisoning from eating their food. On the way to our reserved hotel for the evening my girl made me pull over because she had to puke after what little amount of raw meat she had consumed. If the health department does not interfere, I will return to this business standing out front with my own sign to warn other customers of my experience in order to prevent others from being food poisoned by this unsanitary restaurant establishment. Just because the restaurant is packed with customers does not mean they should allow undercooked food to be added to the buffet for people to eat because they wanted to get food put out quicker. What a waste of money and an absolute disgusting business practice, I should have made the owner eat that chicken to prove my point right then and there, food was raw and if I wasn't in such shock I would have taken pictures as evidence. I bet a health inspector will shut the place down if they enter their kitchen, I will see to it that by God's grace that is the outcome, otherwise I will be standing outside to warn everyone in town not to eat there unless they want to get sick from the price gouging and undercooked raw food they knowingly sold to consumers. read more

My daughter's took me out to eat since it was my birthday. Let me back up and say that we love City king, usually, but today around 4:30-5:00, it was old, like since lunch old. I didn't eat three bites. We told our waitress that it just wasn't good today and she just kept walking n got our check. Cashier snatched, I mean snatched bill tray out of my daughter's hand. I expressed to her that the food was not good today, she looked right at me and turned her head. Rudest exchange exchange I've had in awhile. And just like that, I'm no longer a fan. Off day? When we talked with the manager she suggested we should talk to our waitress. Our waitress later did a forced apology which was not sincere enough. I went there on 1/27/21, lunch time ish. Got my first plate of food, which was good. Was going back up to get more and some dessert when I was told I wasn't able to get the rest of my meal because of the mask issue. We have eaten there regularly in the past with no problems, so this was a surprise. I informed them I was medically exempt but they did not care. ReaLly goOd buffet 7 different kinds of sushi, huge selection of chicken and seafood dishes, lots of soups. Everything was hot and full. Hibachi available as well, but I didn't try it DrInks werE quickly and often refilled. Plates were gone before yOu got back with your second plate. Only negative is we were seated right in front off the door which brought a blast of cold air every time someone came in or out.
