Poor customer service. I stopped with a few questions to the service writer who was working with a customer when I arrived. He told me he'd "be a few minutes." I waited at the chair next to his desk. He disappeared. After 45 minutes i went looking for some attn and approached a salesperson at his desk, basically like "What's the problem here? Is there anyone else working in service?" NEVER AGAIN! I'm almost embarrassed to admit that these guys basically held my bike hostage for almost a full year. Yea, I could have picked it up last October, knowing that it would have to go back in to finish the service work once the parts came in... but where was I going to ride in Illinois in October/November? My nightmare started when I dropped my bike off for a 20,000 mile service in late July, 2018. I also asked them to look at the problem with my bike backfiring constantly. A few weeks went by with no communication from HD. I called and found out that i needed a new rear tire and battery. After that... silence again until I finally chased them down again in late September. At that point I thought the bike would be done, but they asked me, "Wasn't there something else that I wanted them to look at?" I said YEA. What about the backfiring issue? WTF??? They started working on rebuilding the carburetor, and had to wait forever for parts. I told them to just keep the bike for the winter at that point. I started calling them this spring as soon as it warmed up. I got one story after another, and finally got my bike back a couple of weeks ago, in early July, 2019. The bike runs great, but my customer service experience was horrible. No communication. The amount of time it took for them to service my bike was totally unacceptable. I am traveling cross country and experienced a problem with my bike on a Saturday afternoon. Called City Limits and spoke to Jake, he told me to get in on Sunday and would take care of it for me. When I got there both he and George couldnt have been more helpful and understanding especially knowing I was 1100 miles from home and did everything possible to get me on the road again and let me know that they take care of people and understand travellers need help sometimes and they didnt hesitate to do the right thing. My father brought his bike in august 2020 because the taillight wasn't working and was leaking oil from several places. After four months and the bike being transferred to another location, They told him new handle bars would fix the taillight. He approved the work, then passed away in January 2021 (5 months later and still no work has been done). Now I, his son, call and pay 1,240 in February 2021 for handlebars, they delivered it after two more weeks. The taillight still didn't work!!! They picked it up the next day, and I got it back July 22 2021 (5 months later). They said there was a frayed wire in the taillight. It took 11 months and $1,240 to fix a frayed wire. And they did nothing about the leaking oil. Also every time I called and asked to speak to a manager, they hung up on me, this happened at least 6 times. I'm not here to actually review this dealership but more so the HD Credit Co. If you are buying a Harley, DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT USE HARLEY CREDIT. Worst customer service in history of customer service. I paid off my bike through them and then tried getting my pay off letter. I spent three hours on the phone yesterday and spoke to someone all of about 10 minutes of that time. Every time they had to do anything at all, it was please hold for just a minute which turned into 20 - 40 minute hold time. I was so pissed after the call and the disconnection and waiting and waiting and waiting, I could hardly speak. I spoke to three different representatives and all three gave different conflicting information. Save yourself the hassle, time, and extremely high blood pressure and go with a local bank you can just walk into and get help face to face. Tried going back for service and stood there for 15 minutes until someone that looked "thrilled" to be there came out. They didn't know any pricing and just didn't seem interested. I'm glad I was turned to Fornarelli Motorsports for my motorcycle needs. They did a hell of a job with my cam/intake/pipe and tune setup and for less than half than what these guys wanted. I would like to explain the nature of my review so that there is a clear understanding and to get everything in writing from City Limits. -I asked City Limits to go over my bike in totality over the winter storage season and if it needed anything to go ahead and do the work. The bike was scheduled to be dropped off on April 23, 2018. It never happened. My bike was dropped off 3 weeks later and 10 minutes into riding it the day it was dropped off, the bike stopped running. I am not saying City Limits caused any damage to my bike, what I am saying is that they were asked (and had 5 months) to go over the bike to make sure that it was running properly and they did not. -They also told me to order parts that did not fit my bike. When I called to speak to someone, City Limits proposed solution was to buy a new bike. After this proposed solution, a time for the bike to be picked backed up was made and I wound up cancelling that appointment. Whether you've had any positive experience with HD dealerships or are new to the scene, avoid this location! I have worked with three different HD dealerships in Wisconsin and Illinois, (Appleton, Green Bay and McHenry), all of which were positive and fair sales and service experiences. As a Harley rider, I store my bike at temperature controlled dealership locations, and I have stored my bike for the winter in Appleton and Green Bay locations, where the bike was kept covered and trickle charged throughout the winter. I made the mistake of wintering the bike at City Limits, where I had the bike serviced while it was in storage. $500 worth of work later, the bike was picked up filthy with dust. This bike was quite evidently not covered over the winter and I'm left to doubt that it was trickle charged either. Typically, a HD service team washes a bike after being serviced. The City Limits people told me it would be wiped down. Given the dusty condition upon pickup, they did not wash or wipe the bike down. Harley sales are on hard times and dealerships need to go the extra mile with their rider clients. Harley owners spend a lot and typically enjoy great service in return. City Limits, unlike most HD locations, clearly does not get it. This is evident not only in their service department but in their Sales as well. Their sales team approached me at the end of last riding season about valuing my bike for sale or trade. I responded with interest, and despite numerous attempts to get them to look at the bike that was being stored on their premises, including the very day I was taking it out of storage, each attempt to get a trade or sales quote was met with promises and absolutely no response from either Kelly, Lizbeth or the phantom Sales Mgr. Given the extraordinary competition in the Harley market, and given the cost of being a Harley owner, I would think City Limits would be more keen to meeting the needs and expectations of riders like me, riders who very likely have become accustomed to so much more than what City Limits is prepared to offer read more

If you think the service department will deliver your bike in a timely manner you are mistaken. Promised delivery date missed by 3 weeks without so much as a phone call unless you call and then you'll be told someone will call you back. No loaner bike offered after all this time and over $2600 spent in their service dept. The "rebate" they offer on tires is a scam. You are given store credit. No cash value. The management seems only to care about their $$$$$ bottom line. Will drive 30 miles into the city for future HD needs to avoid Rick, being lied to, scammed, and aggravated. I have spent close to 25k on bikes and parts over the past 2 years and have visited all of the HD dealerships many times. Without question, City Limits is the worst. The tried to scam my wife when she bought her bike there. She was close to signing the papers when I walked n and got her an additional 1500$ off the bike. I get the whole commission thing but do t you think customer service is important. Next fiasco was when they wanted to deliver the bike. After they blew up my phone wanting to when I would be available, this knucklehead Rocky, precedes to interrupt and talk over me. I had to tell him to shut up so I could talk. Long story short I went to the dealership and rode it home. Final straw my wife paid the 350$ for the rider class and at the end you get a credit back on the fee. Just a store credit. everywhere but City Limits. Please shop around It has always struck me as funny that the dealership is never as busy as others , like my favorite dealership Heritage Harley in Lisle. I'm never ever going back to this store after me and my buddy's terrifying experience!!! We went there to look for some bike and possibly test ride and buy some apparels as we are loyal Harley Riders. While we were at the store their sales guy Jeremy came to us and asked us about the purpose of our visit at which we told him that we were looking for our next level bike and we wanted to test ride it. We introduced ourselves, that we were previous customers in their store and that my old bike was repaired in there shop and paid $9000 for the repairs a few months back and my buddy was about to buy a bike from them a few months ago but after finishing all the paperworks only to know that the bike was sold already to other customer. Jeremy proceeded on telling us that there will be an event in 2 weeks from that day and took our names and numbers and told us that he's going to set up the test rides on that particular day. After he left us, we saw 3 policemen that came to the store but we didn't mind them. We then decided to go home and when were about to go out of the exit door the cops stopped us and told us that there was a break in on that morning and it matches the description of me and my buddy. To our surprise, we just laughed it off coz we know we got nothing to hide so we gave our IDs, cooperated with them and told them that we were previous customers of that store. The cops were cool with us and they told us that everything was good. After talking to the cops, we then realized that this sales guy Jeremy never intended to do sales or invite us even on the event 2 weeks from that day and that his real intentions were to get our names and numbers to call the cops on us because we looked suspicious and that we match the descriptions of the guys who broke in in the store. Question is? Who calls the cops on you after introducing yourself to him and telling you that he remembers you well from your previous transactions on their store. Also, If we were the people who broke in in that morning, who on their right mind will go back to that store, few hours after the break in?!! This could have been handled in a different way, if only their sales guy Jeremy let the police do their thing, instead of him trying to be slick on getting our informations or if he could have been straight up and told us that they need to verify our identity. He came and talked to us pretending/acting like he's selling something but at the back of it, he has a hidden agenda. It was really a bad experience to us, hope nobody will experience the shame, embarassment that we went through on that store, as most of the customers and staff were looking at us, its as if were really some kind of criminals. We'll never go back on their store again and still hesitant on going to other Harley stores coz we are still in trauma that same experience and treatment might happen to us again from their staff. read more

Truly disappointed in the way this dealership conducts and operates their business. I understand that employees are only conveying orders from the top ie the owners. I purchased a 2018 Harley in September and I paid it off in January. I decided I did not need their ESP plan due to how I saw their service department treated a customer so rudely when I was there to purchase upgrades for my 114. So I decided right there and then I was not going to have my bike serviced here. So I asked to cancel my ESP plan and I was told to come back on a later date and sign the cancellation paperwork, because their finance guy was busy. So I did and I was told that I would be receiving my refund in 4 to 6 weeks. So I waited 8 weeks just to be safe. And this is where all the deceit comes into play. I called and spoke to management and I was told on the phone and in person that The Extended Warranty company had my refund and deal with them. When I contacted the company they told me that I was to receive my refund directly from the dealership. This went on for weeks till the warranty company called the dealership directly and ask them to refund me. After several phone calls later because their company accountant can not be bothered to answer or return phone calls.The nice lady at the warranty company called me and said she took care of the issue and to call the dealership and they will have my refund for me.So I called the dealership to make sure, I was told very abruptly that the check was in the mail. How funny when I was told several times that the dealership in all their years in business does not refund ESP plans at the dealership. Rented a 2015 Street Glide from Ky at city limits. Ky was extremely helpful every step of the way. He took the time to explain all the gadgets on the bike before I took off, including the Bluetooth and power charging function on the bike so I could jam to my tunes and ensure that my phone wouldn't die along the way. The rental was a lot cheaper than some of the other Harley dealers that I researched in the area and it included unlimited mileage, something I didn't get last time I rented a bike in Texas. The street glide was perfect, it only had 500 miles on it. I'd definitely return to rent again. read more

Beware of HD Riding Academy. Avoid taking the MSF course here. You're better off saving your money and going to a local community college where they'll certify you for your license onsite. Our entire group at this HD course was under the impression that we were going to be getting more out of the $350 course. Quite a few of us know people who took the MSF course at other HD locations and their experiences were more substantial than this location. Other locations offer you lunch, give you complimentary swag, dedicate 1-on-1 coaching with you, take you out of the parking lot & into longer distances, offer you free bike rental, and offer extra time on the range to practice, y'know all the customer service/brand loyalty protocols. You get none of those here. Many of the members of my course group timidly commented on how impatient the coaches got on the range and the how the expectations were set high for people who have never touched a motorcycle before. One of our group members didn't even show up the last day after getting scolded on the range for making an honest mistake. It was frustrating for us to find out we had to go to a different HD location to take the state exam on Tuesday morning, WHEN they're ready for us to take the exam. They overbooked their courses before the Secretary of State started motorcycle testing and they're now backed up by weeks. Giant error here. This defeats the purpose of taking the MSF course at HD, which is supposed to be a convenient experience, but we now have to wait weeks to get back on two wheels for the exam that we have to drive out to a different HD location for. We paid $350 to get a copy of the MSF Roadbook (outdated versions btw) and ride on motorcycles for about 12-hours. Not worth it at all. read more

Worst service in the world! They have held my bike hostage for two months with no end in sight. Rode my bike in to the place only problem it had was hard cold starting. They did not touch it for two weeks then claimed the battery cables shorted out when they tried to start it. Have been waiting six weeks now for battery cables to come in. My recent experience with the Service Department was not good. I brought my bike in with a problem that was covered under warranty. 15 days later I got it back (about 3 hours labor). All during this 15 days I was lied to repeatedly. They screened my calls and I busted them by calling from my wife's phone. It goes on and on. They even changed the email on file for me and, they put the same oil back into the crankcase that came out of the bike. Really? I will never take my motorcycle back there. It's a shame because I've bought two motorcycles there and I hauled my motorcycle 500 miles to get it back to a dealership that I have always trusted. read more

Been very pleased with City Limits Harley Davidson. On my second Harley with this Dealer doing everything. All the folks here are good and try to exceed expectations. Seems that some Harley dealers add a bunch of chrome parts to the stock bikes & pump up the sale price. Not like that at City Limits Harley Davidson. The service department is top notch. They do what you ask and don't try to pump the bill up. On three occasions they have identified issues that could have become much larger problems if not corrected quickly. One of these issues they found and corrected when I just stopped by for them to top off my tires (which the do for free anytime!). As mentioned in another review, the HOG (Harley Owners Group) are a good group of active riders who enjoy riding. Always seems like all are welcome. read more

Was in there Saturday to pick up a part for my motorcycle and was told out of stock however you guys had one at a sister store I believe I was told Villa Park, I asked when you would have the part and was told 2 week time frame and 160 some dollars plus tax. well I passed on it ordered the same part out of state 128 dollars later and will have on Tuesday. I'm not sure why it takes so long to get a part from Villa Park now I'm not a business man but that's not real good business my opinion. Horrible place to service your motorcycle. Dealer accepted wheel for wheel bearing replacement and damaged wheel during procedure as technician admitted to use hammer vs press (as outlined in service manual). I was presented with long list of bogus reasons why this is my fault now that dealer broke the wheel. I liked the one that my 1994 motorcycle is simply "too old". Nice try City Limits Harley Davidson BRAVO!!! Dealer refused to provide new wheel so I am stuck without the wheel now. No resolution in sight. They offered to install new bearing free of charge AFTER I BUY NEW WHEEL!!! This is the service you get here. Worth to mention what was posted on one of Sportster forums about this dealer: "As far as I'm concerned that dealer has been on the 'Stealer' list going back 25 years" Be aware! I will rather drive/ride 30 more miles than give these people any business from now on. If Manager feels it is worth to ruin dealer reputation for $200 of store credit (out of which dealership would make $100 profit on anyway) to fix this issue at the time when I was there - fine with me. I hope at least dealer is happy now. I am sure they will enjoy claim with BBB and response from CEO of Harley-Davidson Mr. Matt Levatich after he will read the story about "great service" they offer under Harley shield. Jim and his staff do a great job. It is not always easy to get us back on the road but they do their best. My repair took a little longer because of a parts issue out of their control. Working in a service side of my trade I understand this. soon as the parts arrived they called to let me know about when it would be done. On the test ride they found something else and took care of it. When I arrived to pick up my bike it was a pleasure to see it sitting there all cleaned up and ready to go. My wife and I went to the parts counter to buy some dress up parts for her '12 softail slim.. She picked out the "burst" collection (derby cover, headlight trim ring and air cleaner cover) which Harley and the Parts guy says fits her bike.. Low and behold the headlight trim ring doesnt fit according to directions.. so we go back to return the $129.00 part and talk to the same parts guy, (who buy the way, has the personality of a wet rag).. no "im sorry".. no.. "lets try it on one of our softail slims in the showroom.. I mean,,, what the hell.. try to save the sale even.. or.. better yet.. try to find a solution!!.. which this guys doesnt even bother to do..Says to check with service.. So.. off we go to service.. No help there either.. Guy say to bring your bike in.. (like I cant do this simple install of ONE screw!).. why would I waste my time and gas, to go there another day for them to say.. it doesnt fit.. So.. back to the wet rag parts guy.. to return it.. Now, Im no expert salesman,.. but you might think someone who works in parts, would maybe suggest another part.. not a chance... The new derby cover requires a new gasket..I know this since Ive done this before.. you would think that when we bought this part.. the PARTS GUY would say.... oh by the way,.. "do you have/need the new gasket for this cover?" what the hell is this guy working in parts for.. if all he's gonna do is make me come back for a 3.00 gasket and further inconvenience me... The air cleaner cover exposes the air cleaner to water and COULD complicate the engine if the filter becomes wet.. do you think he suggests a rain sock?.. NOT A CHANCE... GET THIS GUY OUT OF PARTS.. I use to live the place. Now I will not do any business there again. The service department is the worst. Put my bike in for winter storage had some work done. The Covid hit and when it was time to pick up, couldn't get a hold of anyone. They said leave a message and they will call you back by end of day. Still waiting for that end of day. I had to go to the shop to get answers. Was told pick up in a week went back and half the stuff I wanted done wasn't done. They said 2 weeks because now the parts are missing. Tried calling to see if parts are not n and again had to go to shop to get any answers. Finally parts came in and brought bike back in to have them out on. Was told be done in 3 days. Again tried calling and nothing. Had to go back in a week later to find out that they didn't even touch the bike and the wrong parts were in. I just told them give me my bike and they did. What really scares me is the owner of this one owns all the other dealers around me. I may have to take my bike into a non dealer which is fine I guess. Just a shame that the owner would allow such a thing. Don't go if you can help it for service. Parts guy is awesome btw. read more

My hubs and went to several Harley dealerships during the search for his perfect ride. By the time he was ready to purchase, I'm glad he choose City Limits. It's not as big as the other Harley dealerships we've been to, but the staff is very attentive and helpful and I would choose that over a fancy location any day. I believe a new larger location is being built just down the road and for their sake, I hope this wont affect their great service. We didn't feel rushed or pushed into buying any unnecessary gear or service plans. By the time we left, most of the staff came by to congratulate us and welcome us into the Harley family. Even though it's much further from us than the Glenview location, we find that it's worth it to haul out to Palatine. read more

I bought a pre-owned Sportster from them 2 years ago and have since had my 10k mile service and oil changed with them. Both the sales team and service folks were great to deal with. I did head over to them both from on line reviews and a recommendation from my Boss and coworkers who have shopped and serviced there. I guess the only thing I'm not thrilled about is the fact service sometimes takes a while with my bike but hey it's because they are crazy busy and for a good reason, I love the new location and I would recommend them to anyone, I'm in car sales and I have to say they know their stuff and are willing to help. read more

I've never heard more people say "I don't know how to do that" until I went into this dealership. There is a serious lack of training with the staff, and there doesn't appear to be a captain at the helm. I took a buddy here to rent a Harley, and was shocked at how many staff members were standing around doing absolutely nothing yet no one could help us set up a rental. It took about 45 minutes to set up a rental for a future date. When we returned to pick-up the bike on the day of the rental, it was no better. They spent at least 30 minutes looking for the rental motorcycle which turned out to be in the service drop off area directly in front of us. They need to make a serious effort to train the staff on how to use the computers. Even though my buddy had filled out and electronically signed all the paperwork when we made the reservation, they wanted to start from scratch during the pickup. To make matters worse, they couldn't find the sheet with the walk around condition checklist when the motorcycle was returned and seemed like they wanted to blame my buddy for the scratch. The whole experience served as a red flag that I never want to take my Harley in there for service. read more
