If you ride a BMW eventually you will need to use a shop... this is the one. Parts and service available.

Photo from when I was initially trying to figure out why the bike died showing the top of the fuel pump assembly dry
    Bart S.

Short version: The folks at Cycle Werks in Barrington IL misdiagnosed a problem with my 2003 BMW F650GS and charged me $680 for labor and parts even though the bike still won't start. The rest of the story... Earlier this fall I was riding when the bike shut off, no coughs or sputters or rough running, just going 55 MPH down the road and then suddenly coasting with a dead engine. It would not restart so I had it towed home. A little research suggested that a faulty fuel pump could have been the issue, so I replaced the fuel pump with a new aftermarket unit (just the pump, not the entire assembly). That did not fix the problem and the bike would still not start, so I chose to make an appointment to drop it off at Cycle Werks for a proper diagnosis. Of course I let them know that I had already replaced the fuel pump. After a couple of days they called and informed me that even though I had replaced the fuel pump, the issue was still fuel-pump related. They said that water had been pooling on top of the pump assembly (under the seat) and had corroded the harness connections to the point that they wouldn't make good electrical contact. That didn't make sense to me because the bike had been parked in my garage, and I had pictures of the bone dry and dusty area on top of the fuel tank from when I had replaced the pump myself, but I trusted their expertise and authorized what they quoted as a $580 repair. A few more days later they called and left me a message that essentially said "We've finished replacing the fuel pump assembly but the bike still won't start, so now we've found that the ignition coil is also bad." When I called back I expressed my skepticism that two major unrelated systems on the bike (the fuel pump assembly AND the ignition coil) would both fail suddenly and simultaneously. I suggested that perhaps their initial diagnosis of a fuel pump problem was mistaken, and that the coil was the issue all along. They insisted that was not the case, and that the fuel pump assembly and the coil had both failed at exactly the same moment as I was riding down the road. At that point I had no confidence in their ability to properly diagnose or fix the bike, so I made arrangements to go pick it up without authorizing any additional work. My experience with the service department when I picked up the bike removed any doubt I might have had about being misled. Initially they continued with the story about water pooling on top of the pump even after I showed them the pictures of the top of the fuel tank and the pump harness connections perfectly dry just two weeks before I took the bike to them. Then when I asked why, if the problem was corrosion in the harness connectors on top of the pump assembly, they had to also replace the pump itself down inside the tank (which was brand new), their story changed to "Well sometimes new pumps are dead when you get them, we've had that happen to us". I was told there was nothing they could do to reduce the bill, even though the work they did in no way fixed the problem with the bike. In fact the bill was even higher than the $580 (plus tax) that I had authorized, because they billed me for the additional time the technician spent diagnosing the problem after the unnecessary fuel pump replacement. I was (I think understandably) angry. They gave me the choice of paying $680 to take my still-broken bike home, or leaving it with them to put the old fuel pump assembly back in. That would have required a third two-hour round trip with a rented trailer and at that point I had no interest in continuing to deal with them, so I paid the ransom. When I unloaded the bike at home and opened the saddlebags I found the fuel pump assembly they had removed, and on inspection found that the harness connectors (which they had claimed to be corroded to the point of not making contact) were perfectly silver, shiny, and free of any corrosion. I still have that assembly and a picture of the contacts as proof. Their story for why the fuel pump assembly needed to be replaced was 100% a fabrication. I certainly understand that people make mistakes, but what matters is how it's handled. I don't know whether they were somehow mistaken about the terrible corrosion that they claimed to be there, or if it was something more intentional, but in either case they failed to accurately diagnose my bike and then charged me a lot of money for work that did not solve the problem. That is unacceptable.

This is a very first experience with this dealership, which is 1h20min from my town. But first time I stopped by to check a used bike from them, Mike Abt was very thorough and nice. So I decided to come back and finish the deal with them, after all I bought a new BMW S1000R with a very good price surprisingly. Mike Abt is the sale man you should go to. Thanks to Jason also. Will bring more friends to you guys if you keep the good deals for us. Best

5 Stars - Outstanding Service from Isabel at DPS Motorsports!…read more I recently purchased a 2024 Honda Goldwing from DPS Motorsports, and I couldn't be more pleased with the experience--especially thanks to Isabel. From the moment I walked in, she was welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping me find the right bike. Isabel made the entire process smooth and stress-free. She answered all my questions with confidence and clarity, never rushed me, and made sure I was completely comfortable with every aspect of the purchase. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and friendly attitude really stood out. The Goldwing itself is everything I hoped for--powerful, smooth, and loaded with features--but what made the experience truly memorable was the level of care Isabel put into making it all happen. If you're in the market for a motorcycle, I highly recommend DPS Motorsports--and definitely ask for Isabel. She's a true asset to the team and made this an exceptional buying experience from start to finish!

Got the bike back after a $200+ oil change and safety inspection, and the broken clutch lever was not even noticed, makes me wonder what else was missed. The bike was dirty when I dropped it off, still dirty when I got it back. Dirty isn't the problem, but the dirt lets me know what was and was not touched. Really wondering if anything was actually checked. And again, being stared at silently like I had tree heads when standing at the service desk was really off-putting. Went back recently and the staff were different guys (the service department has since been moved to the other side of the building). They were more normal and friendly, but I cant get over the weird experience last season and still wonder what was missed that last time. Update: second time I've been in since my weird experience- very friendly and helpful. Worked with me to get my bike back on time before a scheduled trip. Very glad that the odd experience was a one- off type thing.

Tim agreed and told me the dash and all stainless and chrome trim would be removed in preparation for paint. I told Tim multiple times throughout the painting process. That I wanted the job done right. Tim never asked if I had a budget in mind. Nor did I have one. Because again I wanted the job done right. I made the mistake of trusting Tim and never got a written contract from Tim. Only a verbal . . . Tim called me once the project began to tell me that " everything came off of the car easily". And that nothing broke. I came in to pick up the trim. Tim told me that he was going to knock $700 off the price. When I got to the shop. I was surprised to see only about half of the cars trim removed. Tim's plan was to tape off the trim and to paint the car with the trim still on it. I was also surprised to see the dash still in the vehicle. Tim's plan was to also tape off the instrument cluster and then to paint it. When asked about verbal agreement. Tim basically through a temper tantrum in his shop. Saying that it didn't need to be done. So the car was painted with the trim still on and the dash still in the car. Tim , told me at a previous date to the painting. That because a leaking pump in the trunk needed to be replaced. And that he needed to replace two seat covers. That i asked him to replace. And the car was in an accident. He needed to raise the price $3200 more than the most recent quote. It didn't take long to prove that the car was never in an accident. And Tim was clearly lying. He also decided later on that he wasn't going to replace the seat covers. But Tim never brought the price back to his original quote plus the cost of the pump replacement. Once the car was finished. I asked Tim to fix multiple issues including: missing paint under dash that he painted already peeling paint on dash already peeling paint near passenger side window unpainted area in the passenger side door hinge unpainted floor underneath carpet patch on floor carpet from incorrect install unpainted interior doors unpainted area under deck lid unpainted areas inside truck that he painted unpainted door trim over spray on windows missing paint in inside of glove box multiple visible primer spots throughout car due to not properly removing trim not replacing the door panels, kick panels or windshield wipers cracked driver side window because the trim or window wasn't removed from the door before painting and sanding only painting one side of the rims Once the car was home I found multiple imperfections in the paint. Including missing paint(that would not be covered up) , scratches , swirl marks and areas that were not filled with filler. But just sprayed with paint. I believe the original paint job was better. Tim made what should of been an exciting experience. A tense and terrible experience. Due to his aggressive outbursts. Here is why you shouldn't go to Alcalde Customs. Update: so since I can't reply to Tim's reply of my review. I will update my review with a response. In regards to me not complaining. That's just another of Tim's bold faced lies. Which Tim does as easily as he breaths. I asked Tim about multiple issues. And Tim preceded to throw what, I can only explain as a grown man throwing a temper tantrum. And when I attempted to remove my car. Tim threatened to charge me the full price and keep my car parts. And in regards to him saying to bring my car in and he will fix it. I wouldn't trust Tim at this point with his finger paints and my piece of paper. And secondly please feel free to call me. And I will show you pictures of the texts of him refusing to fix any and all issues. And the last text of him saying that I'm " blocked". When referring to the huge chunk of paint. Missing from the dash he painted on my car. And any questions(773-419-5775 ) Also please refer to the picture of the bogus check , Tim lies about
