Went here today for a fill and gel, but it was over a French manicure and I wanted it changed. The nail technician, although she did not say much, was very sweet and concerned about making sure that the little white remaining on the tips would be properly covered up. Three times she selected a different nail polish and tested them out until we found the perfect one in the shade that I liked. I'm a huge believer in leaving good reviews when they are due... The nail technician was very nice, the place was very clean she did a great job and the price was on point. I will be back! read more

Had a bad experience here - tech talked on the phone for half of the service, the gel nails had bubbles underneath the polish, and uneven polish with lots of polish on the skin or more polish at the sides. I went to the CVS next door to get a nail file immediately afterwards because it was such a poor job - realized if it was that bad I should just walk back over - went back in and all they offered to do was another coat and told me they looked fine. Which wouldn't have helped most of the above issues so I declined - it really just needed to be redone with care. Won't be returning read more

Got a mani-pedi with gel polish on the fingers. Seemed ok until I went outside. In the daylight you can see the polish is lumpy on my toes. I went back in and showed them to the lady who worked on me. She's not very pleasant and seem to me to be irritated. She applied polish over a nail then looked at me. I pointed out another, she applied polish then looked at me. I realized she wasn't going to look all of them over so we continued this pattern until I called it quits. Went outside and they are clearly still lumpy. I shouldn't have to go outside to evaluate my nails. My fingernails were rough enough to catch on fabric. I came in right at 12:00 when they opened. There was only one woman working there, and she was so lovely. Even though the place quickly had three people waiting and only her to do the work, she handled it professionally and kindly. She is the only reason that the second star was given. Than came in her coworker. I didn't catch her name, so lets call her Drusilla. Drusilla was one of the rudest, most unqualified aesthetician I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Now, I know- you're thinking- oh another one of these angry, exaggerated yelp reviews. But read my past reviews- I have reasonable expectations I don't expect the strip mall nail salon to be Red Door Spa and I have given more than 40 reviews that were 4-5 stars and only 5 that were 1 star. On with the review.... Drusilla didn't ask questions. I wasn't asked if I wanted my cuticles cut or pushed back. I wasn't asked for nail shape. I wasn't asked if I wanted a teaspoon of glue on my two nails that had a little break in them or if she could cut them; she did the former. Then when I was ordered to wash my hands, I showed her the huge amount of glue that was under my left thumb nail. She didn't say anything, and just grabbed my right hand and started buffing. I said "Ma'am?" to which she replied, "I know, I helped your nail with glue, I helped it." I said that I saw she did that and appreciated it, but there is glue stuck to my skin. She again ignored me. Then, we got to the polish portion of the debacle. First, she was sloppy. Polish all over my skin, that she would dig out with her nail or acetone off with a brush. Most people get a little on the skin from time to time, but she got it on every nail on every coat. While she was taking 8-10 min per coat, I stopped restarting the the UV light. Many other manicurists have told me that more than the recommended time changes the polish color and makes it more translucent. She said " Move your hand." To which I replied, it's already been 4x [of 30seconds] which is too long and changes the color. She didn't try to have a conversation, she just starting yelling, "I have a license, do you have a license?" And I replied that I've spoken to a lot of other manicurists that say that you should not exceed the curing time. I said that I would do it a fifth time but that was it. So rude. So I complied with Drusilla's demand, not explanation, that I do 2.5 minutes under the light for each coat. Then we get towards the end of the manicure, and she starts going at it again saying that she knows better and that I don't know anything about using a gelish LED light with OPI. Sure, I'm not a licensed aesthetician, I'm a dumb as can be licensed physician who has clearly never ever had a single other gel manicure done ever. She just kept talking over me. I told her that she was incredibly rude, and that these are actually my nails. I added, what happened to respecting the customer, or even having a conversation instead of being so rude. When she kept yelling, I added for someone so proud of her license you sure did a terrible job (see pictures.) She finally was laughing like a pure sociopath, and kept explaining the same thing and saying that I don't have a license. Finally, I said "Enough, just stop." Then again requested that she just stop talking. She kept talking as I said "For Christ's sake stooooopppp taaaalllkkkking." She finally acquiesced and said if you don't like the job, then you don't have to pay for it, I'll buy it for you. I said, I can pay, I just want you to fix it. She refused and said if its so bad you can have it for free. This whole debacle with Drusilla's ineptitude and lack of any sense of customer service, took almost 90minutes. I don't like stiffing people in the service industry. It's thankless and repetitive work, I understand. But I was happy when she said that because I have to now go back to the far superior East Bay Nails, to fix her botch job. Bye, Drusilla. My shellac manicure lasted a whole four days and my pedicure started chipping the day of. It was expensive and I will not be back.

The salon is not very modern and could be updated but that is true for many of the businesses in this location. The service is always great ! They sanitize their tools in metal approved barbacide as well as an UV Ray sanitization machine. This makes me happy to see this in any salon ! I have been going to a gentlemen there for awhile for my gel manicures and he does a great job listening to my request and delivering quality results ! read more

Sad. Paid for a deluxe and they rushed through it. Plus, I'm very pregnant. So its obvious I'm going to get my nails done because I need someone to rub my feet. That's all I really wanted. The polish is secondary. Wish I would have gotten what I paid for: a Deluxe Pedi that includes a "foot lotion massage". I guess it matters which tech you get...which I don't thing is entirely fair. I use to frequent this place on a bi-weekly basis and absolutely LOVED have Vee work her magic on my nails! So sweet, personable and always happy and professional! Wow and I disappointed. I am from California and what I expect from a pedicure must be so different. First of all, massage was mediocre. Lotion was slapped on my legs and barely rubbed it, lasted all of 30 seconds. Lotion left my legs ashy and not moisturizer at all. Instead of a nice sea salt scrub of any kind, soap was put on a jumbo too brush and used all over my feet. No good cleaning was truly done, cuticles were briefly touched up when I know my toes needed much more work. Then to be charged $25 for it!!!! Wow disappointment grew. Manicure was followed by same issues. Hand massage was so lackluster that he left so much lotion unmassaged that I had to wipe it off when I washed my hands before he painted them. For $12 for a manicure I truly can justify nothing this salon does. Try Reflections down the street instead, much much better. read more

This nail place is no frills, but the staff is the sweetest! They fit me in at 630, even though they close at 7, and I didn't leave until 815. Cohn didn't rush even though I was the last person of the day, and my nails look great! Plus, the price is unbeatable. read more

I came to City Nails because I was looking for a good price and was pleased when I called prior to going in that a gel pedicure was $38. After my pedicure, Vee informed me that my pedicure was $50. I was shocked because it was the basic, no frills pedicure that is listed at $28. I assumed on the phone it was $38 because gel polish is $10 more, which seems pretty standard to me in most salons. When I first raised my concern about the price while talking to my mom, Vee brushed us off and ignored us. I then directly asked why gel polish would be $22 more dollars and she got an attitude and vaguely said the pedicure cost that much because of "the chair, color, and gel polish" whatever that means. It was clear we just got scammed. My nails look good but I could have gone to a higher end salon for that price or gotten a pedicure with all the add ons. I did not appreciate the explanation or attitude I received and will not be back. read more

I hate leaving a bad review but I feel I must. Happened to stop by on a Thursday evening and only 1 other client was there. This should have been a sign. I proceeded. They didn't have the paraffin as advertised in the menu. I got some other specialty mix instead which did not have enough solution for a decent scrub. Massage was awful and he kept hurting me. Massaged my legs and barely touched my feet which is where I emphasized needed the massage more. He insisted on pinching my little toe that was recovering from a bad stubbing on a couch 2 days before. The bruising was healing but he probably set back that process by 2 days. I had to keep moving my toe so he wouldn't touch it to pinch it. (Sigh) this was truly a last rate experience and at $40, not even cheap as pedicures go in Charleston. His only saving grace was taking his time but then again, that took too much of my time and that is valuable. My conclusion, find another place for a pedicure like Luxia or Veda. I have been going to this nail salon for a few years mostly for pedis but also waxing and the occasional manicure. I have always received top notch service even if they are slammed and I know their backs have to hurt. In fact I always buy gift certificates from here for other people. They did do an excellent job on my pedicure but they were pretty busy, so as a walk in I had wait quite a bit. They started my pedicure and then an appointment came in early so they just had me soak while they started on the appointment and then I had to wait for someone else to get done. The appointment that came in after me had her toes and nails done before my pedicure was finished. If you are on a time crunch, make an appointment. read more
