    Pier and beach

The beach has been seriously degraded by the Army Corp in their "beach regeneration" effort. The "beach" is now 250 yards farther from the sea wall and has now completely enveloped the water area of the pier. Go to Vilano Beach farther north or farther south to Anastasia beaches.

Great city to visit . There are good restaurants and great walking streets. Lots of shops. I didn't get a chance to see the rest , I'd like to come back and take the hop on hop off trolley and see some of the historical sights. The city is about twenty minutes from where we are staying on the beach but its easy driving back and forth. I-95 and I-275 are great highways and make getting around easy as we drive to Jacksonville for bagels..

Extremely rough waves when I visited, only saw a handful of others there and not a soul in the water. Aside from that, a gorgeous beach with lots of room for people but not enough parking, but a lot of beach access points leading to hotels, restaurants, or residences. Saw lots of shower areas and beach is kept very clean. Hopefully next time I visit we can go in the water!

I actually prefer St. Augustine Beach and all of the beaches south of here to the Jacksonville Beaches. Call it nostalgia from my childhood and college years or chalk it up to just being more accessible, convenient and usable for beach-goers. It's also more relaxing and chill. There are tons of great restaurants in and around the beaches where you can bike or walk up in your bathing suit and towel and grab a bite to eat. I love Anastasia where you can camp & picnic without any hassle. Publix supermarket is not too far from here if you just want to cookout at your rental or pick up a sub, water and some fruit to take on the beach. If you're not local and want to stay a couple of days or few, I suggest either renting a house or a hotel room right on the beach for easy access depending on your budget, how long you're staying and how many people are in your party. Just make sure to book ahead during high season for availability and better rates.

Can I just say I love St. Augustine Beach! The sand might not be as nice as Destin's sugary white sand and emerald green waters, the waves might not be as high as they are on Singer Island in WPB, and you might not be able to see the bottom as you can in the Bahamas islands; but it is a very nice beach overall that one can go to during the summer and find a nice secluded spot to relax, swim, or fish. Not only is St. Augustine a nice beach but the town of St. Augustine also has a lot to offer in the way or restaurants, bars, and cute little shops. The beach is also conveniently located to the historic district of St. Augustine where one can take a short drive to go visit some of the historic sites of America's First City.

Just an absolutely perfect beach. The sand here is a lot more powerdery than the beaches by Fort Lauderdale which seem to be grittier. If you get off the beaten track, there are plenty of open and free parking areas. I wandered down to Mary Street where I spotted a "Beach Access" sign and there was a ton of space there for the car and barely a handful of people out on the beach.

    Beautiful Beach!

I think my heart belongs to this city and it's beautiful beaches. The people are so friendly and I am just happy when I am there. No matter how many times I have visited I just can't get enough. I am always ready to come back.

Beautiful beaches here on clean white sand........just lovely, laid back, no frills, just beach.....not crowded, just right.

The beach was clean and family oriented. The waves were not high but enough to get in and cool down. Please bring your sunscreen, beach towels and/or beach chairs. If your skin is sensitive to the sun, bring a beach umbrella or beach tent. The sun is directly on you. Bring your flip flops or beach sandals. The sand is beautiful but gets everywhere in your car (even after rinsing off). There is a rinse station as you come in. Parking is a nightmare.

One of the loveliest beaches in Florida! We loved it! It was clean and the people were great!

One of the loveliest beaches in Florida! We loved it! It was clean and the people were great! I have been travelling with my dog this year from the Canadian east coast to the Florida Keys to Western Florida and back to Buffalo. We have visited many many dog parks and beaches along the way. Thanks for keeping it dog friendly!

Although we drove through a storm to get to the beach!!! it was wonderful! It was still hot, but very very overcast. But hey it just finished raining! We sat on the beach took pictures, had some margaritas and Coronas. I love Florida even its crazy weather! We were determined to get to The Beach, (in my Mr. Bean voice) lol Shoot this girl even got a tan although it was cloudy!

    The beach makes everyone happy.

    Is this dog friendly?

Loaded question...it depends on which beach entry you go to. If you definitely want a beach that is dog friendly, go up a little to Vilano.

The pavilion was nice and covered perfect for our big picnic! Right next to us was the bathrooms, shop, and little restaurant. We were able to change easily into our bathing suits to go swim at the beach and my friend was even able to buy a bikini from the store since she forgot one - so convenient! The beach is beautiful and the water is stunning, be prepared to walk across a lot of sand to get to the water part. After swimming, we went to get some ice cream from the shop, and I got a root beer float, which was good. Overall, such a nice time!

It was definitely windy, but honestly it didn't take away from the experience at all. If anything it made the waves more fun to watch and kept things from getting too hot. The playground was a big hit with the kids. They had a great time running around and burning off energy while we relaxed nearby. It's one of those spots where both adults and kids can enjoy themselves without feeling cramped or bored. Between the scenery, the clean beach, and the family friendly setup, this is an easy five star stop. Would come back again without thinking twice.

It was glorious). The water was nice and cool. The beach was clean. It had some small shells, but not many. It was mostly free of seaweed and great for swimming. There are also more waves on the east coast of Florida than on the west coast. I expected them to be bigger than they were. However, once I was in the water I realized that they were mightier than they appeared. Some of those waves can knock you over! I may have swallowed a lot of salt on the day I was here. The waves were a lot of fun. We did get attacked by some bugs floating in the ocean as the sun set. I would recommend watching that from somewhere else. On this coast, the sunrise is more predominant anyhow. There is a pier on the beach that has some incredible views. It also is popular with fisherman. We came back and watched the sunrise on the pier the next day. It looks like there is normally a charge, but not if you are there early enough. It was no charge at 6am on the day we used it. The view was incredible. You can see the Lighthouse lit up from the pier too. We loved the beach in St. Augustine and we will definitely visit it the next time we are in town.
