A little confusing that this is listed both on Yelp and on Apple Maps as "Saint Augustine Beach Pier" because the sign at the location says "The St. John's County Ocean & Fishing Pier." It's $2 to walk out on the pier ("Sightseeing", per the sign) but it's worth it. It's a beautiful view! Today was incredibly windy - so bad that I had trouble holding my binoculars in place while looking for birds. But I was able to log 9 bird species while there, just watching them fly by and/or on the beach. There are benches for sitting, but they did have the end of the pier blocked off. See other reviewers for speculation on why. There's also a pretty popular Farmer's Market that sets up every Wednesday in the parking lot in front of the pier. It's popular enough that we witnessed traffic bottleneck there, so be mindful of that. read more

If you love fishing, this is easily one of the best spots in St. Augustine! I visited this week while on vacation, and since the weather was a bit cold the first few days, I decided to try fishing off the pier. I ended up loving it so much that I came back every single day. The staff in the shop are incredibly kind and welcoming--they really make the whole experience even more enjoyable and get you excited about fishing. One of the best parts is that you can rent fishing poles for the day, which is perfect if you're traveling and didn't bring your own gear. We were in the area last evening late after our Trolley ride to see Nights of Lights downtown so it was hard to see anything. But it was lit up by blueish purple lights and looks very nice. We will go back by daylight to check it out. There is plenty of parking here which is a plus. It is close to many restaurants and shops and St Augustine beach. read more

What can you not love? Great view of the ocean, some benches, and always a nice breeze. You used to be able to fish from it (see picture of my kids summer camp outing) but you aren't anymore. I never went for the fishing but a lot of people are upset because of what is going on with the end of the pier. Unfortunate for that purpose but still worth the short walk out. read more

I visited the St Augustine Beach Pier last weekend while in the Jacksonville area. The beach is very clean and well maintained. It's always very relaxing and it's never overcrowded. This is great beach for families with small kids.. I had a awesome day to walking and burning some calories! This is definitely one of my favorite spots when I visit this areas of FL. Parking is free, but you must come early to secure a descent spot. Bathrooms and feet washing stations are readily available. You must pay a small fee if you wanna enter the pier or go fishing. read more

Absolutely beautiful. We went around sunrise. There was several other people out early walking. There is a hotel right next to it with a parking garage for its guests. There is is a small parking area for public access to park which is where we ended up. They had trash cans for your trash and even two showers to rinse off the sand. read more

I would've rather been on the beach with my toes in the sand and surf, but I had never been on this pier~ so it was worth the sunset! It's a couple bucks to access the pier, and they have a little gift shop and snack bar inside to entice you. We grabbed a bottle of water and I almost had John getting a A1A decal- because that is a thing with him and his sister- they call each other when one is driving on A1A for the other to yell BEACH FRONT AVENUE! I thought for sure he'd get it- but he's not into stickering cars. Cough-cough, I have national park stickers on the car... Anyway- back to the pier. John and I loved the boards for donors (probably) along the sides of the railing. All sorts of messages, families, one was a proposal (for the win). We enjoyed the waves crashing below, the various birds on and off the pier. A few were fishing, most were out for pictures and selfies. Surfers were in the water, riding waves. Families were out on the beach enjoying the last of the evening. A drum circle could be heard from one of the pavilions near the parking lot. And the kids play zone with water fountains looked like so much fun! We walked to the end of the pier and back- the sun setting and the breeze was making me chilly, so we didn't hang out long. Considering I feel like the Jax Beach pier will never be finished with repairs- it was a pleasure to venture out on this one! read more

The Army Corp has removed any chance of fishing from the pier for any foreseeable future to provide the masses a 200 yard "beach". This sandy area now extends to the very end of the pier, eliminating any chance of fishing. read more

You have to pay $2 to enter the pier. Definitely great for fishing or maybe a scroll on a date night(yes you can bring items with you). Also they do have a few benches for you to have a seat if they are available. But definitely a must see view Especially around sun down. They rent out fishing poles/has bait for sale. I didn't walk the pier instead took the kiddos to the beach area. The water was freezing but the beach and restrooms were very clean. Parking was a bit difficult and you must arm yourself with patience. Parking was free. I suggest you bring yourself some food and drinks as there were limited options unless you want to leave your coveted parking spot. Good place to just relax and people watch. read more

I love the St. Augustine Beach Pier area; this is where we usually park when heading to the beach and kid's splash pad. The parking lot does get rather crowded during the busier months, so plan on getting there early or late in the afternoon. The pier area is kept nice and clean and is a great place for families to come to enjoy the beach, the splash pad, and surrounding area. Parking at the pier is free which is a plus, but you do have to pay to even just walk out on the pier. If you are in the mood for fishing the pier is a great place to do that; they even rent equipment and sell bait. read more

We took a short stroll down this pier while in town, it only costs $1 per person. I think it was $3 if you want to fish. I really like that they have benches on the pier with shade over them. It was nice to sit for a few moments and listen to the waves. As I stood on the pier and looked at the ocean, it seemed that the right side was much busier. There are restrooms here, kids splash pad, a playground, outdoor showers, a teeny gift shop, and some snacks/drinks. I'd budget about 15 minutes for visiting this attraction, shouldn't take much more than that. I lived in California for a few years, the piers in FL are nice but they just do not compare! read more

This is a huge beach. It runs for miles on end and seems to have countless parking lots to access the beach, some with bathrooms and showers. We've been here twice and never saw litter of any kind so its maintained daily. Don't go trouncing across any dunes to access though..most are cordoned off for protection. I love that there is plenty of free parking here. Next, I enjoy that even though some of the items in the shop are over priced, you can find a handful of local and helpful items! The young man working was kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Though the fee to go out on the pier is $1, it's worth it, especially at high tide. I enjoyed the personalized wood planks and the several benches with shades. It's a great place to do some fishing (two poles max per person) or watch for all sorts of wildlife.. or just watch the waves and stare into the abyss of the Atlantic Ocean. Looking at the ocean there is a small kids area with a splash pad and playground as well as a couple showers to help you to leave the sand at the beach. read more

This is a totally awesome surfer beach! While I myself do not partake in the sport, my husband does. And so I love to watch him and others. There are no shortage of boarders out here. There are lifeguards on duty (BLESS) which makes it an ideal beach for all the water activities. It's an especially great beach for skimboarding. The slanted shore line gives you a lot of momentum! The beach is wide, the sand is a little grittier towards the shore line and finer up in the dunes. Oh, the dunes, don't get me started I could sing their praises for days. STUHNNNINNGGGG! I don't normally think any beach is ugly, but this one is just really going through an awkward phase. It looks like the backdrop for some fighting video game. And man is this place packed with people. It was hard to get a parking spot. I really wanted to be able to see a beach near St. Augustine, but this was not worth the drive. I learned of a couple other options later, and wish I'd gone farther south to find them. This is the obvious stop, but not a very scenic one. Loads of people, so I guess I missed something cool about it, but a pay-to-enter fishing pier, or that little strip of beach, are just not exciting to me. This pier was erected in 1940 to attract tourist to St. Augustine and it has been a success ever since. You can only enter the pier by walking through the visitor"s center and paying your $1.00 which is good for the entire day the fees vary depending on if your fishing or not and they also offer weekly, monthly and yearly passes for a nominal fee. The design of this pier is quite unique with it's elevation changes and bus stop like covered seating along the way to the end. I'd say this would be an excellent place to sip on your cup of coffee and watch the sun rise. read more

A great public spot for beach access. The pier fee is only $1, I think, and they also have a shop with souvenirs and sundries. FREE PARKING! The day I went it was already nearing sunset, so it wasn't crowded at all. I wanted direct beach access and there's both stairs and a ramp next to the pier for people to get to the beach. It was gorgeous and the beach was super clean. My husband found several beautiful shells on our way to the water. An FYI, this is an Atlantic beach, so it's rockier sand (not the powder white stuff the Gulf beaches are famous for). If you're tender-footed (like me), you're going to want to wear shoes of some kind on the beach. For those wanting to go out on the pier, there are plenty of places along the length of the structure with covered seating for those who just want to look out to the ocean. I will definitely be back the next time I have more time to spend there. It's a great spot with great access to the beach and ocean. read more

The pier is a great place to visit. You can fish off the pier and it's great for sightseeing There is plenty of free parking. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the beach and it only costs a dollar. There is also a visitor center full of great information. The walls are filled with maps, brochures and pamphlets and coupons booklets. There is also a store where you can by souvenirs and fishing supplies and bait. You can also get refreshments, snacks and fast food. There is a big splash pad for kiddies that has covered table areas to sit and eat at. You can get a great view of the ocean from here. Washrooms are clean and wheelchair accessible. There are outdoor showers located by the splash pad. I saw six volleyball courts and two Bocce courts. There was also a covered pavilion located by the handicapped parking area. We love to do our beach walks on this beautiful beach. It's such a great area that offers so much. read more

We were there in winter, so there were just a few surfers in the water, so I can't really speak to the quality of the beach in terms of hanging out on the beach - but is was pretty and very relaxing to walk along the pier and take in the blues of the Atlantic and avoid flying seagulls. read more

This is a great spot to access St. Augustine Beach. Known as a more quaint and peaceful part of town, this pier offers a wonderful walkway for those visiting to stroll on as they take in the gorgeous views of the impeccably white pristine beaches. Several jagged shells are lined by the sand so walking with shoes is recommended for certain areas. There's plenty of parking right by the entrance and luckily it is free which is a wonderful perk to have. Some light options for food and concession shopping are available for a nominal fee which is also great. The restrooms are pretty clean too for being outdoors. It's a great spot for the whole family. This beach had me at FREE Parking. WHAT!! And tons of spots. Once you parked it was a very short distance to the very clean bathrooms with a children's water park. That area was pretty large and had a good amount of tables with good over head coverage to be able to hangout wile the kids played. The weather was gorgeous, the water was perfect! The beach was not too crowded and like that they allow dogs on the dog. Nice clean sandy beach. Nice concession stand to buy the normal beach food. Worth the visit. Great pier for enjoying a the view and ocean waves at high tide. Did realize that they charged for admission because I jumped the rail with me daughter... oops. Didn't realize until my hubby informed me of the entry fee ($1) when he tried to join us. Parking was free so I can't complain. I was a little disappointed by the state of the playground and water play area. Paint was chipping, the climbing elements on the playground were missing a rung and overall it just needed to be freshened up. Overall a great park that could use a little love, with awesome views. They have a life guard on duty at this location and the beach seemed to be dog friendly as long as they were on leashes. How can you rate a beach less than a 4 Star? All or at least most beaches are great. I love the beach and this one is good. The pier is really cool to take a stroll on but they also offer a splash pad for kids and adults to enjoy. The premises are clean and in good working order. As far as the beach depending on which area you enter in from you may not have the nice, cool white sand but something which is a bit more coarse and rough on your feet. Once you get into the water be prepared to battle with some strong waves. I had my grandson and I had to keep a hold of him all the time and be careful with the undertow. Not terrible but just beware. We had a wonderful time and the water was at a good temperature so no rush to get out. If in the area again I think I would visit again. read more

I rang in the 2016 new year at the Annual Beach Blast Off at the Saint Augustine Beach Pier and I must say I was very impressed. Very well planned event and such great fun. This event was free and included a Kids Zone Area with that included Face Painting, Carnival Rides, Mechanical Bull, Selfie Photo Booth & a Rock Climbing Wall. There were over Thirty Food Vendors + Champagne, Beer and Wine and live entertainment by the Rock band Papercutt, The event offered FREE PARKING/FREE SHUTTLES and a spectacular fireworks show to music. The Pier area was jam packed and the Saint Augustine police did a fantastic job keeping everyone safe. This is a must attend event and a highly recommended experience. Too much fun and hope to come again in the future. read more

Well, this is a long overdue review and it'll be short and sweet. We went on a quick vacation with our neighbors down to St. Augustine back in February for my husband's birthday/Valentines Day. Since the airbnb we were staying at was a very very short ride to the Pier we decided to tote everyone down there for some fun in the sun and sand. Bonus for the big, free parking lot. We were pleasantly surprised to find a little bit of a water park there; the kids really had a blast playing in that. We also went down into the sand and let the kids splash around in the surf and do a bit of seashell collecting. All in all it was a good time and I'm glad we were able to visit. The off-ish season is definitely the time to visit as I could see this place easily getting crowded. read more

Had a really nice and relaxing weekend at Saint Augustine pier this past weekend. I have been several times and it always seems to be nice. It's pretty simple you pay $1 to go out on the pier and you can spend as much time as you wish on the pier. It is great to take pictures, eat lunch, people watch and just relax. You have water all around you so it's fun! Also you can go fishing off the pier for I believe around $7. It's not a bad deal at all. I went out on the pier on a really windy day so it was kind of hard to really enjoy it cause you were kind of affair you would fly off. But overall it was a great windy, cold day!! read more

As piers go, this one is unexceptional. The views are nice but not great since there's usually not a lot of fishing and boating activity. It's bad enough they charge to give access, which is okay, but the absolute worst is the attitude from the employees - snooty and they don't seem to care at all about what they're doing or if their guests need help or have any questions. Just poor customer service. However 2 stars for the children's play area! And there's a tiny water park that's nice. Those two are free! read more

So beautiful! We enjoyed strolling the pier in the evening and the live music was wonderful. The beaches are clean and very lovely- my kids enjoyed the splash area, too.
