Not nearly as busy as the other beaches on Easter weekend. Plenty of parking and lots of beach available to sit on. The surf was gorgeous, the tide was out so you could walk way out. I did not see a lot of shells, but that's Ok. It was a lovely day.

We parked in a public parking area down at the end of Mary Street. Dog friendly, open & pretty chill.

Butler beach is our go-to for a nice, clean beach with less people. It's just a short drive down from St. Augustine beach and much less crowded! The sand is soft, there's plenty of space to play games and the wooden path leading to the water is a beautiful walk. Would definitely recommend for a less crowded area and great space on the beach.

Gorgeous beach and nice people. The water is beautiful and a great cool breeze. The beach is open until 7:30 pm. There is usually a life guard but none today (Sunday) but they put up the red warning flags to warn people of the ocean conditions. The beach is very wide and the sand is so soft, like sugar sand!

I have to gush about Butler Beach. I went to St. Augustine to visit my sister in law, nephew and niece. We were in a condo right on Butler Beach in the lovely town of St Augustine. Here's how nearly every single day went on that trip. Wake up. Put on swimsuits. Get water, sunscreen, beach toys and chairs. Walk to beach. Set up our stuff too close to the Atlantic Ocean. Move all of our stuff back a bit when the tide steals some of our stuff :). Lay back, relax, feel the sun on our skin and just sigh contentedly. Go back to the condo and eat lunch. Repeat above. I'm getting all sentimental just thinking of it. The beach was never crowded at all. The waves of the ocean can get pretty fierce here so keep that in mind if you've got little ones. Also it's salty and you'll be covered in salt after being here. The rip current is also something to be aware of. If you are caught in a rip it will carry you away from the shore and out into the sea. Swim parallel to the shore calmly until you're out of the current. I loved this beach. In fact, writing this review has made me start thinking another trip to St. Augustine sounds really great right now.

We drove up to St. Augustine from NSB to meet up with some family and friends who were renting a condo for a week right off Butler Beach. Living in New Smyrna Beach it's rare that we'll drive very far to go to another beach to spend the day in the sun and water but today's visit with family was totally worth it. This beach although very popular with those visiting while on vacation is quite different from the beaches just a few miles south of here. The water was warm although a little cloudy but being somewhat secluded it offered the perfect setting for a great day at the beach. After packing everything needed to set up our comfort station we started out for the short walk from the condo, now it was time to get wet and crazy. We had a number of kids and teenagers with us so of course there are some general rules that need to be put in place - hand signals, boundaries, etc nothing to spoil the fun but everything to do with safety. The ocean was stirring and with nice waves breaking on the packed sand the rip tide is always a concern especially for unassuming kids that haven't spend much time in the ocean. There was plenty of sun, sunscreen and cold water for everyone and the shade of the canopy was a welcoming oasis for those of us over the age of 16 from time to time, kicking back in a beach chair with your toes buried in the sand can never be a bad thing. Sometimes I take these types of days for granted being that it's part of everyday living here on the east coast of Florida but to see those that rarely get to experience the salt life is very satisfying and this beach is a great one for doing just that...

Parking if you go before 10am you should be good

Wide beach, less crowds, beautiful waves. Boardwalk down to the beach with restrooms and good parking.

A little confusing that this is listed both on Yelp and on Apple Maps as "Saint Augustine Beach…read morePier" because the sign at the location says "The St. John's County Ocean & Fishing Pier." It's $2 to walk out on the pier ("Sightseeing", per the sign) but it's worth it. It's a beautiful view! Today was incredibly windy - so bad that I had trouble holding my binoculars in place while looking for birds. But I was able to log 9 bird species while there, just watching them fly by and/or on the beach. There are benches for sitting, but they did have the end of the pier blocked off. See other reviewers for speculation on why. There's also a pretty popular Farmer's Market that sets up every Wednesday in the parking lot in front of the pier. It's popular enough that we witnessed traffic bottleneck there, so be mindful of that.

If you love fishing, this is easily one of the best spots in St. Augustine! I visited this week…read morewhile on vacation, and since the weather was a bit cold the first few days, I decided to try fishing off the pier. I ended up loving it so much that I came back every single day. The staff in the shop are incredibly kind and welcoming--they really make the whole experience even more enjoyable and get you excited about fishing. One of the best parts is that you can rent fishing poles for the day, which is perfect if you're traveling and didn't bring your own gear. They also sell bait in the shop, so you don't have to worry if you run out.
