((4.25 stars)) fairly large stationery and print shop filled with colorful paper, gift wrap and gift boxes, greeting cards, paper-related items, and so much more. there are so much packed into this store neatly and merchandised creatively. it's nicely lit and stores like this are a rare gem in the city as many stationery stores of this size have disappeared. this store is especially busy during holiday windows throughout the year and also does a lot of work as a custom print shop for events and such. they also carry small gifty items and journal / sketch books. it's cool that stores like City Papery are thriving as shopping for items like this are way more satisfying as tactile experiences as opposed to virtual ones online. read more

I've never really wrote a review for a paper / card store since the experience can be a bit more varied compared to the traditional spots you write Yelp reviews for, however I felt compelled to write one due to my surprisingly good experience. For the most part, I try not to raw dog certain occasions, but sometimes life can get in the way. I came in with a mission to acquire a Christmas card, one of budget friendly yet unique and memorable. I was able to find a $5 reasonably priced yet aesthetic card. City Papery does have a $5 credit card minimum and an ecommerce presence, but the owner let me know that it is cheaper to purchase in store vs. online. Oddly enough, they don't offer buy online pick up in store so would recommend stopping by in person to check out the selection. read more

Back in 2022 and 2024 I needed printing help with my photo cards. I spoke with Pouya and David. Both guys were VERY responsive and helpful. They were able to print the reverse side of my already printed photo cards. The font, line spacing and text/point size of my info was perfect! Thought I would give a maybe more recent review on printing services. Some of the staff can maybe be blunt but idk I don't really mind. They're generally helpful and I've never had a *bad* experience. They usually do good with colour and alignment, I never had to really have serious corrections on their part; usually it's something on my end being too dark. Printed many of my projects for uni here. Also tolerated my bullshit with bringing my hard drive instead of emailing files so thanks lmaooooo. Great selection of papers, which is mostly what I'd recommend one go here for. I think prices are OK for my standards but I'm in design with a niche for packaging, so the papers I can print on make it worth it, at least in the short term + convenience in distance/travel. Speaking of convenience, pretty fast service if they're not busy with multiple customers. TL;DR Fast, locally accessible, and great if you like printing on/using cool papers. read more

I've never experienced worse customer service than here. Rosa, who I'm assuming to be the manager or at least someone with say in the store always has such a nasty attitude and is not helpful at all. They have a ridiculous return policy. The printing department is okay most of the time, mainly depends on who helps you. Also make sure to get a quote or else you will spend a ridiculous amount of money to print. I hate having to come to this store as they do have some nice products but I always have a negative experience every time I step foot into this place. Please save your time and look for other stores. read more

Kam from the printing department was entirely unprofessional in his handling of my save the date printing. I signed a quote with Kam for my save the dates to be printed on Solar White paper. He provided me a sample I liked and requested he moved to production. One day later, he emailed me that he had printed this sample on Arturo White, rather than the Solar White I had paid for. I agreed to come in to see a re-print on the Solar White paper. As I did not like the second sample (re-print), I requested to upgrade to the paper used in the first sample, which he had told me was Arturo White -- I've since learned it was actually Solar White (what I had originally paid for) and requested be moved to purchase upon seeing it. When I picked up my save the dates, they were printed on the paper used in the second sample, which I had specifically indicated I did not like. Everyone makes mistakes -- this wouldn't have been an issue had things been handled well. But nope... I was shocked by the unprofessional level of service that followed. What merely could have been an agreement to right the mistake that I have written proof occurred, Kam argued with me about which paper he claims I liked. It was frustrating to have my preferences / intelligence questioned in that way -- I have the original sample (the one I liked) on my fridge and the other (the one I didn't like which lacked texture and dulled the colors of the artwork) hidden a drawer. Additionally, I took the original sample home to show my parents and in laws last weekend, so I definitely know which I like lol. Further, Kam fought with me about the events that played out despite the fact that his emails don't at all support his version. He refused to provide any resolution, so my mom is currently out hundreds of dollars with no save the dates to show for them. Kam indicated I should contact his manager, but provided no phone number or email for him. Upon contacting the store, I was told the manager doesn't keep specific hours, making it virtually impossible for me to get in touch with this person. I'm upset that I'm having to write this review, but frankly I'm not sure how else to drive some resolution. I would have liked for things to have played out differently. The issue is not how a mistake was made, but rather how it was handled. read more

Do not go here!! Absolutely terrible service, employees got upset whenever asked about paper supplies (which is the whole point of their business??) Also printing services turn out horrible, streaky prints with wrong coloring and horrible cropping, they clearly don't care about their quality of work. Cannot believe how dependable these guys are. They came through with a giant last minute custom box order the same week as Christmas and were SO kind and helpful through the entire process. They managed to complete the entire order BEAUTIFULLY and ridiculously fast. I really can't say enough kind things about Shaghayegh and Jamshid. They are true gems. read more

Ehhh. This place is very inconsistent with their print jobs. I've been here a total of 3 times and after that 3rd time, I've definitely decided that I will never go back. Here were my experiences: First visit: It was my very first time there so, naturally, I was confused about how things worked. The guy who was helping me seemed a little impatient so I tried to hurry it up, email the PDF file that I needed printed and hand him my papers to print them on. I had a sample of the PDF file we had already printed from them before, same paper and file, and when I compared them, the frames that I needed a beige/peachy color was WAY pinker on the newly printed ones. I asked if he could re-print for me being as how it didn't even look like the file that I sent him, but all he said was "there's no way to get it the same exact color because all the machines have different settings". I asked if I were to give the CMYK percentages if that would help, but he still said that won't matter. I was sort of puzzled but I accepted the answer because I don't know much about printing soo, I had no other choice but to take his word for it. Second visit: I decided to give this place another go because I needed the same paper to print on so I went back to purchase. I still needed to print out just 5 sheets of the same PDF file for my boss so why not just do it all in one place. This time I asked for 1 sheet to be printed first to test it out, same thing happened it was pinker. It was a different guy that I had than last time, and much more helpful might I add, so I asked him if there was any way to match it to the one I already have and without hesitating, he pushed a few buttons, re-printed and voila, this time it matched perfectly. This experience was much more pleasant than the last so I felt better about coming back in the future. Didn't happen that way though. Third visit: Different guy from the previous two, saaaame thing happened with first. Files didn't come out the right color, asked if he could match but he just flat out said "no". No explanation or anything. So I asked if he could tell me why. Said "machine settings get changed everyday so we can't." Then I asked him if he could try at least and he did so very reluctantly, as if providing decent service was such a daunting task. Didn't come out right but it came out much better than the first. I was very annoyed by the end but I just accepted it. I really wish I got the name of the second guy to see if he was in to help me out, but after that third visit, I don't know if it would have been any different that time around to be honest. Such poor customer service in the printing job area. If you need your document colors to look exactly like the way you need them to, save yourself the time and just avoid this place. 1 star given for the one guy who actually helped me out, another star because their store is big and they do have a great selection of paper types. read more

This is the only paper supply store in the city that carries the exact weight and style of 11x17 paper I'm looking for. In fact, they have a ton of different sizes, colors, and weights that you can buy in bulk or per sheet. When I stopped by this morning, a young woman named Lucy working behind the paper and envelope counter was especially kind, cool, and helpful. She is definitely a great model of customer service -- certainly an example to aspire to if City Papery wants to turn some of these more negative Yelp reviews around. read more

The guy at the printing department was very also helpful and courteous and I ended up ordering our business cards with them.
