the serviceman was good, but they didn't mention when I made the appointment that I would be charged $160 in travel time (30 min each way). Wish I had asked. Must be a good business; he was in my town because he had another appointment nearby. I asked if that other customer also got charged for travel time, and he said yes. My mother-in-law had CP&H come by to maintain her furnace this week. With winter coming you can't be too careful. Tech comes out gives the furnace a once over. On Saturday, she smelled gas, so she called in to have someone come out.The man that answered the call clearly didn't want to come out to look it over, saying "You know it's Saturday, and with time an a half this could run you 1000 dollars.... do you have 1000 dollars?" What kind of customer service is this? We're just gonna leave a late 70's widow at home in the cold? It was 28 degrees when I left for work Saturday. Get off the couch and do your job. We'll be going to Home comfort experts from now on. read more

The services from the company were fine. My main issue was their charges. I was charged for 3.5 hours of time. When I scheduled the service, they did inform me that they would charge me for travel time. However the service person was only at our home for 1.5 hours, and the extra 2 hours were for "travel and prep". But it's a 25 minute drive from their business to my home in Sawyer MI (they should not be charging based on where their service person lives), and it's still unclear exactly what the prep time covered. From my perspective, they overcharged me by at least 1 extra hour. That's an unfortunate way of doing business. read more

Came in to store and wanted Mike Ross to replace my broken Honeywell air filter. He talked me into a Halo ozone producer and a paper filter for the same price. It doesn't do the job and I way overpaid. I've used City for years and now lost confidence in them. The have gone the way of Cook Heating.:-( read more

The guys at City Plumbing are great. We had a new ac unit and furnace installed by them, and they were quick and efficient. I called to unclog driveway drain. They came out and snaked my sewer drain that I did not ask for and was not clogged. The snarky service man said it was $289.00 and they would charge me that much now to do my driveway. I said you did the wrong one. He was in a hurry to leave. Against my better judgement I wrote him a check and said I would take it up with the manger. I never got a call back and the receptionist said they would only come back on a new service call. They got my $$$ but will NEVER have my business again or anyone who ever ask me. read more

Got 1 star only because I had to. What horrible customer service. I waited for an appointment and then was completely screwed over. Only half of the toilets "fixed" lasted longer than a day. When I called to complain I was treated badly and rudely. Sent a different guy next visit and he didn't fix anything either. Very expensive for nothing. Called a different company and they came out and fixed the issue in 30 minutes not the 4 hours and no fix from City. Refund? Not even after I asked. If you have money to burn and time to waste call them. read more

I called City Plumbing to fix a leak in my bathroom sink plumbing. They came out, 2 hours late. Which luckily I called to check their schedule to see if they were running on time, they were running late. I'm glad I called otherwise I would have been fuming by the time the technician got there. He showed up, was very knowledgeable, did a good job, was pleasant to deal with. After he left I got to looking at my bill, as it seemed a bit high. I was charged 45 min travel time from St Joe to Coloma, that's about 10-12 miles. So, I called for an explanation several times, only to be told the service manager is checking into this and will call you Monday. apparently Monday never came, because I'm still waiting for the call. I figure I was over charged about $50 which is not a huge amount but significant enough for an explanation. And is $50 worth losing a potential long time customer? And a customer looking to install a new furnace in the near future? I think not. Another female taken advantage of. At least I know who not to call next time. Poor customer service. Bad quality, terrible customer service. I paid to have City Plumbing winterize our cottage. They did a terrible job and as a result caused major damage to our cottage. When I complained, they refused to take any responsibility, even refusing to refund the cost of the service call that caused the damage. They have been in business in St. Joseph for many years, but it is clear that they are riding on their reputation and no longer pay attention to their clients. I would never have them do any work for us again. read more

Called about a frozen pipe at 10:00 am was told they would see who they could send and would call me back that same morning...morning came and went and no phone call...called them back at 2:00, was told they are still trying to find someone to come out to my house....that is the last I have heard from them...and that will be the last time they hear from me, for anything. I live in a large condo community and could have recommended them to a lot of people, now I will steer my neighbors to someone else. I understand if they didn't have anyone available, but they should have called to let me know that. read more

I called twice to get pricing on installation of a tankless hot water heater. First time I was told Mike Ross was with someone and would call me back. When I hadn't heard from him, I called again and was told to leave a message on his voice mail to get a call back. Neither phone call was returned and now I'm a week later getting my project done. I'll let my friends who recommended them know this business doesn't seem to want new customers. read more

I wish I would have read these reviews before making an appointment with city plumbing. Called to have a routine service done on AC. Waited months for the appointment and they cancelled at the last minute. Made another appointment for the same week between 1-3. Drove from chgo to be there. At 3:15 I called and cancelled. They said the first guy they were sending Couldn't make it and the second guy was coming but couldn't tell me what time. I'll never call again. Like another review I live in a town home community. They had the potential for many referrals. read more

This is pure exploitation. I called for a leaking shower. They asked me to pay $120 for an appointment 5 days later. There is no assurance that they will be able to fix the problem or be able to help at all. Where is the ethical value of this trade? read more

1 star. Three trips to fix furnace problem they explained to me could only have three causes. Ended up a part for less than $200 cost almost $1,000. Labor cost was ridiculous, thought at least labor charge would be waived on 3rd trip in four days for the same initial problem. Had been referring them to newcomers using my business services. We had City Plumbing & Heating out to service our old furnace that wasn't working. After checking it and servicing it and installing a new thermostat they said it was good to go. Days later the furnace wasn't working again so another service call was made. This time they said that it couldn't be fixed and didn't even come out. We had to make another call to schedule an appointment for someone to come out to take measurements and get specs for a new furnace. This was all done over 3 WEEKS AGO! This was on a weekend and they told us that we would hear from them within a few days. We have checked in with them multiple times to obtain the quote for the new furnace. They gave us the run around and said that their guy that does the estimates etc was out for a few days and we would get something from them within the day...over a week and half later...STILL NOTHING!! There is no heat in the house!! This to me is completely unacceptable and unprofessional!! I can't and wouldn't recommend them!! read more

My family has been using City Plumbing for over 50 years. We have a weekend cabin and they had always been available on weekends and holidays to help us, which made us dedicated customers, having them replace sinks, water heaters, faucets, etc. for years. However, they were sold a few years ago and customer service is now, apparently, not part of their mantra. For many years, we have asked them to close down our cabin's water system for the winter as we do not have heat in the cabin, and then we ask them to turn it on again in the spring. For the past two years we had asked them to turn on the water for a specific weekend, as we bring up family to help open the cabin, and gave them a time frame of at least 10 days to 2 weeks advance notice to do it. For two years now, they had not turned the water on when promised. This year, I got a call from them after 2 PM on the day we were coming up, and we were already on the way, to inform us they did not turn the water on. I reminded the caller they had done this to me the previous year, and with no apparent apologies or extra effort to remedy the situation, I fired them on the spot. I called a neighbor to ask who he used as a plumber and his plumber was at our cabin 45 minutes later turning the water on. Incidentally, I need a new water heater, and guess where I won't be going to buy it? Too bad, they used to be the best, but I wouldn't use them again if you paid me. read more

Called City Plumbing about my water heater that had stopped working. Was told Ill call you back. Got the call back and was told no one was able to help unless I paid overtime for service on that day. I made an appointment for the following week. I also asked for an estimate for replacing an electric water heater. Six days later I get an estimate to replace my gas water heater for $2300.00. I called the and asked them to do just a repair and to make sure I had the morning appointment. Gail informed that she had canceled the appointment because she thought the GAS heater was too expensive. I informed her again that I didn't have a GAS water heater. SHE SAID AGAIN THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO THE REPAIR ON THAT DAY. Ive made two attempts to have City Plumbing to repair my ELECTRIC water heater. I called Town and Country Plumbing and they were at my house in three hours and did the repair and they gave me a replacement estimate of $950 read more
