I cannot say enough great things about City Pub. They have a fantastic outside patio on sunny days. And a warm cozy inside with fireplace inside for cold days. Great beer selection!!!!! After we met at seapot for lunch, the next day we went to this city pub for sandwiches. It's quite a nice place for lunch, we sat outside and we came a little early, only one lady setting up the table and stuff. The parking lot is not so bad since we could also park across at the train station. The parking meter only charge $1/hour, you need to know your space number. The server was quite attentive and fast although one was running at the time. All the sandwiches are about $20 with fries or salads. I had the spicy chicken which's quite good. The fries are excellent, very tasty. The zucchini is a must with ranch dressing, everyone loved them. Burgers, quesadilla, steak are all great. The place is right outside so we could talk freely without worrying about bothering someone else LOL. I've been to this place with bicycling friends perhaps a dozen times in the past 10 years, and the teriyaki chicken sandwich has almost always been my choice. I don't drink, but they make a pretty good lemonade with unlimited refills. Prices are reasonable, service friendly, and (at least in the past) portions are plentiful. Normally, you can see the grille in action, in the back past the bar area. I went there with one friend last Saturday (9.28.2024) in the late afternoon, but something was off. Perhaps the cook was sick or on vacation? The chicken was tasteless, like it had been microwaved from frozen rather than grilled. The bun had a peculiar taste. The salad was several lumps of romaine (which I asked for instead of the normal arugula) with dressing on the side. Even the plate holding the food looked different, maybe a little smaller. We have been going to City Pub almost every week for over 20 Years and it has been our favorite brew pub in Redwood City ever since. The beer selection is fantastic with about 10 or 12 guest beers in addition to perhaps another 15 regular beers all on tap. Burgers are the best in the Bay, IMHO. The servers and staff always make you feel at home and are fantastic. Sadly, we just learned last night that their last day in business will be May 14, 2025. The owner is retiring and has leased the building out to someone who will be closing the doors and opening it as a new restaurant. We don't know what that will be but, we hope they will do something similar. It will be a huge loss to Redwood City and for us personally. Thank you for decades of great food, great beer and for being Redwood City's friendliest and best pub. You will be remembered and missed. read more

City Pub is a Redwood City institution, and we are so glad they are surviving the difficult COVID environment well. City Pub has always had a nice outdoor patio, and that is serving them very well now that distanced outdoor seating is the safest way to dine. The draft beer list continues to be excellent, and many of our favorite dishes are back on the menu. Spencer and the rest of the staff keep guests safe with good distancing of tables, sanitizing between guests, and always wearing masks. City Pub is in our weekly rotation. read more

City Pub is a fun little spot that has been around for quite awhile! Service is great, the place is large and I enjoy the outside dining they have! Ok so there are some amazing things to get at City Pub and a few misses.... Their chicken wings are awesome!!! The quesadilla as well! They have a nice beer selection... Their kids meals are great - my son loved the grilled cheese. I wasn't too keen on the Salmon burger it was slightly fishy and just not super tasty. I just wish they had some more salad options, I think they used to have a veggie plate and it would be nice to see that come back. I always like to have some fresh options available and I think adding that back to the menu would be great. Overall though, this is a great beer and wings spot to come hang with friends! read more

This place is EXACTLY what it sounds like -- a standard pub in the middle of RWC. There's nothing particularly memorable about City Pub. My friend and I came here after dinner at Zadna because the other wine and cocktail bars in the area were closed. We didn't eat the food here, so I can't speak to that. I ordered a beer at the counter, and we sat at a table by the front window. One plus is the fact that there WAS seating at all. Then again, it was in the middle of a random weekday evening. It was still poppin' for a weekday. I guess all the locals gather here, and it has that kind of vibe. I wouldn't avoid this place or go out of my way to come here, but if I was having dinner in the area again, it's a late-night bar I'd easily hit up for convenience. read more

BEWARE of you use card for payment ! The guy server that has red hair and usually wears a hat will write in his OWN tip! I went in for two entrees, one appetizer, two beers. The total was around $75. But tipped only $3, well the following weekend I looked at my bill and it was $88! Management quickly gave me my $10 back but seriously what's wrong with people now a days. Unprofessional. read more

We had the spicy calamari strips which was very fresh. For dinner we had the spicy crab cakes and the skirt steak. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes for the entrees at a pub places. German place across the street was packed so we decided to give this place another shot after a 10 year break. $3 for soda water is bull! It's SODA WATER! The burger that even an idiot couldn't screw up, they did. It was a greasy inedible mess. It was also FREEZING inside at 7PM on a Friday. This place is permanently off the list. $50 for a CRAPPY BURGER, CRAPPIER FRIES AND A STEAK SANDWICH. I Wouldn't blink twice if the BURGER was edible. It wasn't. I had high expectations as I read the menu, varied selection and too a couple of minutes to decide. I ordered the French Onion Soup as an appetizer and the Skirt Steak sandwich with mushrooms. Both showed up at same time. Staff offered to place sandwich under heat lamp but I declined, wouldn't have been worth eating after that. The French onion soup is very rich broth, a good crouton cap and not too thick layer of cheese. Very rich and filling. Tad to much rosemary for my taste but definitely not off putting. The problem with the soup was there were no onions in it. 3 or 4 microscopic pieces. Obviously the cook preparing it didn't stir the pot before dishing it. The skirt steak sandwich looked incredible and indeed (after some surgery) had great flavor. The meet served was about 3/4" thick and trying to bite through it as a sandwich was impossible without lots of tugging at the tough meat and ingredients falling all over the plate and my shirt. After deconstructing the sandwich, slicing the meat across the grain on a bias (as skirt steak requires) and rebuilding the sandwich, if was fantastic, tender, juicy and delicious combination of meat, mushrooms, tomato and pickle. City Pub needs to take some time on kitchen and cooking basics to re-educate staff. Once they do that, I could highly recommend them. read more

-For what you pay: Ok. The highest ABV beer is 8$, not bad. Paid 12$ for a mediocre salad -Ambiance: front patio is my go to. Enjoy sitting in the sun with a salad and sweet tea -Service: excellent. There is a small Mexican man who i guess busses but consistently checks on every table in the lack of waiters. Taste: definitely better than your typical pub but nothing distinguished or proprietary. A perfectly copacetic pub with above average typical pub food. 3.5 stars. Customers are made comfortable in the convenience of the front patio accompanied with quality service. For me what really makes this place is the sunny front patio. I would not eat here strictly for food because there are a lot of other great joints nearby that outperform this place in taste. This is a neighborhood pub with good brews and food. Burgers are solid. Really like the toasty crunchy sourdough hamburger bun. I don't mind a real pub burger being on the rare side, and the beef seemed fine. The french fries aren't really fries, but parmesan sprinkled potato wedges. But they're basically tasty 'tatos. The *real* stand-out eats, however, are the Zucchini Sticks. Big, fat, juicy, pickle-sized, crunchy, burn your mouth, straight from the fryer hot, but you can't wait and just keep chomping because they're so kraaazy yummy scrumptious! Get them things. With the ranch dip, that zucchini appetiser is to die for. It would be a culinary crime to have a meal at City Pub and not order those. They do a great job with the salad here too. The burgers come with a generous pile of baby lettuce field greens-- you know, the pre-washed pre-packaged stuff you can get at most supermarkets. I like how expertly dressed the pub salad is. As in: the dressing is probably put in a large bowl, the greens are placed on top of it, and then it's all ever so delicately but thoroughly tossed, so that each and every leaf is lightly coated. City Pub's house dressing is a droolicious tart-sweet raspberry vinaigrette. And I enjoy the tasty bleu cheese sprinkle-crumbled on top of the salad. Mild but flavorful, this was like the Barack? Barry White? of bleu cheeses-- smooth, popular and pretty much everyone likes him. :P I can see why City Pub has been a longtime favourite in RWC.
