While visiting family in Phoenix for New Year's, my 3 year old wanted to ice skate! Found this small outdoor ice skating ring in downtown Mesa. There is a small parking lot behind the skating ring. Parking was free. We visited on 12/30/23. I purchased tickets the day before, which I highly recommend. Tickets were $10/person. Upon arrival, they had a stand by line and a pre-purchased ticket line. There were a lot of people waiting in standby, as tickets for this day were sold out. Tickets are only needed for ice skating. There is lots of room for family/friends to watch and hangout while you skate. After checking in, we were given tickets that we exchanged for skates. They only had hockey style skates. Note, the small size skate is an 8T (toddler). So if your toddler has a smaller foot they give them foot skates, which attach to the bottom of kid shoes. There was plenty of seating to sit and put shoes on. We went with family so they held onto our shoes, otherwise you would have to rent a locker to keep items in. Next to the skate checkout stand were ice skating assists (plastic walkers for young kids, see pic). These were an additional $5 to rent, WORTH IT! There were several employees constantly brushing the ice. On this particular day the sun was warm and the ice was melting a bit, so they had to keep brushing the water, but this didn't interfere with our skating. We enjoyed the ice skating. Cheap and fun family outing. There was an AT&T pop up tent nearby so we checked out the booth where my kids got to jump in the snow globe! So fun! There was one dessert food truck also, and I saw online that they had other trucks coming and other fun events. Definitely worth checking out! read more

For the longest time I would skate at this pop-up rink during the holidays with group of friends. It's always fun to see families come out for an evening of skating. Because it doesn't snow in the Valley, these little makeshift rinks are the way to go in Arizona. For awhile, CitySkate was located on Central Ave and could hold quite a few people. But because of the light rail extension construction, it got moved to the CityScape plaza area. This has made the ice skating rink smaller and more crowded. So I haven't been in quite some time because of this. CitySkate usually opens around Thanksgiving weekend and stays open until after the New Year. General admission prices are close to $20. Kids, seniors and military are a little cheaper. There is a Christmas Tree in the center of the rink that you can skate around. This is a fun option for families during the holidays if it isn't too crowded. read more

Beautiful icy view during one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. The ice skating rink located in the heart of downtown Phoenix is beautiful. One of the most creative ideas to the valley of the sun. The setup is nicely displayed with a HUGE Christmas tree beautifully decorated that lights up giving a glow on the ice. I'm the middle of the street between two buildings it is definitely a glimpse of the east coast where cooler weather permits for this. Though beautiful I did not have the beat experience. The location had plenty of staff. Very young crew who only played around. My first encounter was the cashier which were two very unfriendly ladies who gathered $15.00. With no direction on what to do next I turned the corner where six employees talked and goofed off the whole time. As I arrived right at 5pm when they first opened for the evening they had plenty of time to horse around. I was given the wrong skate size once I finally got someone to help me. I returned the skates only to realize even with the correct shoe size they are the most uncomfortable skates I have ever worn. It was so bad I last only a quick moment to snag a picture and had to leave the ice. Sadly I was not alone as other people trickled in they complained about the skates as well. I returned the skates and so did my friend which had her first experience skating. Are skates were snatched out of our hand only to be told by an employee who works there that the skates they provide are terrible and they bring their own. I did not ask for a refund. I just left. I recommend if you decide to go there and pay $15 be sure to bring your own skates. read more

I've wanted to check out this holiday "attraction" for years and finally got a chance this December and glad I did. The several story tall Christmas tree adorned with lush decor and lights really gets you in a cheerful mood. There are plenty of oval shaped outdoor ice skating rinks around town, but you literally get to skate around this tree and sit around it as you take a break while watching families - all smiles - returning to childhood fun playing on ice. I had friends visiting from Quebec, so of course they had their reservations about the quality of the ice and sharpness of the skates, but I still really enjoyed just the idea of skating outdoors in Arizona. Yeah, the ice was a bit choppy and uneven at certain spots, but that's to be expected in non-ideal conditions for man made ice outdoors right? The light up LED snow flakes blinking over the rink flanking the sides of the Christmas tree were also fun. For $15, you get your skate rental and get to skate for as long as you'd like. You get a wrist band and can leave and eat dinner and come back and skate some more if you wanted. It does get pretty crowded as it gets later in the evening and it is tricky maneuvering around people who never skated before so you do have to watch out for that. This is still a fun worth-trying-at-least-once activity! read more

I would have recommended this place a couple years back, but since they moved to skating area off the street, it's just not worth it anymore. Very small space to skate, feels like half the size it use to be and it was way crowded when I went at 7pm on a Sunday. First time here ! My kids had a great time. Check in and skate rental went quickly .. the manager helped my girls on the ice as it was their first time . We would definitely return and bring more of the family. She even gave them a Christmas balloon before they left ! prices are great and the staff is friendly and helpful ! Ice was not maintained well at all, and the teenagers running it barely pay attention at all. Very small area crammed with way too many people. Perhaps if they limited the amount of people on the ice at one time it would be better but everyone stops and just hangs out in the middle of the ice to take selfies. I witnessed a argument and the employees were so busy talking it escalated. Honestly it's worth it to spend a little extra to go somewhere better this place is not as safe as it could be. read more

I would like to give my feedback on our skating experience. Skating rink is a pretty decent size, though the rink looks bigger in pictures when doing your research online. Not too crowded the staff did a great job with not over filling it. Good customer service. We found parking right on the corner of Washington Street & Central Avenue the meter charges $3 for 2 hours. Our 1st visit today ! They opened 5 minutes before 3pm, ticketing & wristbands went very quick , ice skate rent was also very quick and the 2 young kids working were very helpful and knowledgeable! My girls loved it! They do not have restrooms so go before you start skating , bring snacks , they do also have lockers ! read more

I was really excited but didn't look at pictures or reviews before I came, which was a huge mistake. It was ran by teenagers & there were many fiesty mothers when I went, witnessed multiple confrontations between grown adults and the young adults running this mess. They did not keep time frames for when people were skating. There was people here for hours, the rink was so small and so packed. Groups of people would stop in the middle of everyone to take selfies and cause huge traffic jams if not many people falling at once. There was no space on the ice, and they very obviously were not maintaining the ice as they should be. It was shredded show you couldn't effectively skate on. On top of all this, there is no refunds so I spent almost 40$ to be super uncomfortable for the 20 minutes my partner & I tried to skate on this tiny, overcrowded, unmaintained rink. I would not recommend this place. Go spend a little more money at another venue and have a way better time. read more

Sunday 8:30, 2 kids/1 adult. I got a military discount so it totaled at $30. Really nice atmosphere, people were happy and pleasant. Even the few times we got bumped into they were apologetic. Just a nice vibe. The rink is small but it does the trick and the lit up metal tree was attractive and unique. The cashier was very nice and friendly, no wait. We only had to get off the ice once for the ice machine to smooth the ice over. Nice family outing option. My kids had a great time. read more

Too small, and too crowded, you almost get dizzy doing circles

Ice was absolutely horrible. It's a super small rink. The views make up for it which was nice but there wasn't a lot of organization when allowing people on and of the rink during their times. The ice was shredded to the point it was like snow so you could tell if hadn't been re iced all night. I would try another rink for a great experience! read more

$15 per person, Discounted price for student or military is $10. They only provide the skates but no socks, so you have to bring your own. The skate shoes are very uncomfortable. There is zero padding and cushion in them, my friend and I were skating for about 30-45 minutes and couldn't deal with the pain anymore. My friend got blisters from them but we had a lot of fun overall. Beautiful lights and huge christmas tree decorations all around us. read more

This is a really cute idea that isn't well executed with regard to safety. It isn't too expensive and the location is decent. The only problem I had was lack of crowd control. Every other ice rink I have been to had staff on the ice to break up any clusters and make sure people weren't goofing around too much. There was nobody on the ice to help with that and as a result there was a large group of kids more concerned with their snap/Insta selfies literally stopped right in the middle of the ice. Meanwhile 200 people are on skates with people falling all around them trying to squeeze through the bottleneck they created. read more

The rink is gorgeous, but The CityScape Parking at 1 E Washington is pumped full of noxious fake scents. Garage employee told me the air freshener machines were on and blowing at full blast. It was so obnoxious & nauseating. It permeates your whole car. I wonder what they are trying to cover up? You can actually taste the nasty chemical scent in the air.. ugh. The elevators are full of *fake* scent too! I will avoid this whole City Scape area in the future, including the Blue Hound Grill. read more

Place was pretty. Sadly we got there and did one loop on ice before they said everyone had to leave for rain. Asked about refund (worker knew we just got there) they said they can't do it. There were no signs stating this policy. Wasted $45. read more

Very festive and a nice way to enjoy a winter activity. But as expected it's very busy.

Visited on December 16th with three 8 year old girls. The staff seemed more interested in their daily gossip that customers needs, but they are young and I've been that person. It was decorated beautifully, very enchanting. It was crowded so skating was going at the crowds pace or you could bob n weave through the gaps. Although it was busy, the crowd was super happy and in the holiday spirit. The girls felt ok with their small ability to skate, as their were many others just learning. It was a mini winter wonderland in downtown Phoenix. Brought my own skates, so can't comment on rentals. I would do it again. read more

Started to unexpectedly rain within 5 minutes of us arriving. The cleared everyone off of the ice which is understandable due to liability...however the manager refused to provide a refund or a even a free voucher despite the fact that we clearly had just gotten on the ice a few minutes prior to purchasing our wristbands...Very rude and unprofessional, this was my first experience with the ice skating rink and I am very disappointed. read more

Beautiful display and center sculpture but the ice was in really bad shape and the skates were SO incredibly dull that they would not even catch the ice. I exchanged them to try to find a sharper pair and the employee told me the blades only are sharpened in the beginning of the season. As a very experienced skater I had a very difficult time not falling. I can only imaging those who have never skated. I would recommend bringing your own skates. PLEASE Improve!!! I love this feature downtown and it is an easy fix! There were plenty of employees to sharpen them at least weekly if not more frequent. read more

Such a great idea and a neat way to spend a night in the middle of Phoenix. My girlfriend and I had a blast and really enjoyed our time. I would go again and I would recommend trying it next winter. It was fairly inexpensive and we had fun for hours. read more
