This company recommended and installed soundproofing that didn't help at all. Yet they only refunded a laughable percentage of the thousands we paid them, and that even after some pressure. In addition if we are ever lucky enough to do this properly we have the extra bulk of sheet rock they installed, complicating our demolition. Michael is amazing! I worked with him several years ago to soundproof the front door of my apartment. Soundproofing did not work for us, unfortunately. After a paid consultation, we discussed that two layers of sheetrock and the green glue in between each layer would provide significant noise reduction coming from shared wall with our neighbors . After 3 days of construction work and A LOT OF of money later, the sound is the same as before (aside from the fact that we lost a bit of space from the sheetrock). I recommend City Soundproofing to anyone looking to improve sound issues within their apartment. I vetted lots of local soundproofing companies and Michael from City Soundproofing was the only one who took the time to discuss solutions with me in detail over the phone and in-person. Most companies never called me back or gave me outrageous quotes for the work. Michael answered every email, and returned every phone call. My apartment building was constructed in 1901 and although my unit had been previously renovated, it was not insulated very well. The footfall from my neighbor above me sounded like drums and I could hear distinct words from my next door neighbor's conversations. As someone who works from home, this was not only an annoyance during sleeping hours but making it impossible for me to focus on my work during the daytime. I spent over a year researching possible solutions and ultimately decided that if I was going to invest time and money into this project, I should do it once and do it right. I knew I wanted to decouple my wall and ceiling, add mineral wool insulation, and MLV where possible, which meant we needed to take all the sheetrock down to expose the studs and start from scratch. I live in a Coop, so this all needed Board approval and an architect's approval as well. It was so great working with Michael because he is solution-oriented and is an expert at soundproofing. The architect on my Co-op Board was concerned about added weight on our 120+ year old building; he asked lots of questions and Michael was there to answer every single one. I truly felt in good hands seeing the interactions between Michael, the contractors, and the architect. I was also impressed with how quickly they completed the work; they estimated about 2 weeks and it ended up being about 8-9 days. Everyone at City Soundproofing treated my property with respect and left everything immaculate. This was one of the more expensive projects I have done in my apartment (compared to custom windows and a mini split air conditioner), but City Soundproofing's prices are very fair, especially compared to some of the other quotes I received. This was a very labor intensive job that used a lot of premium materials such as MLV and Rock Wool. If you are considering doing an insulation/soundproofing project of this scale, do your homework and educate yourself so you can ask the right questions. Most of all, trust your instincts about the people you are dealing with. It was a no-brainer to pick City Soundproofing because Michael treated me with respect during every interaction, he never rushed me off the phone, and answered all of my questions in detail and was extremely patient while the Co-op Board reviewed the scope of work and asked even more questions. It has been about 5 months since the project was completed and I am extremely satisfied with the results. I am no longer jolting awake at night from the sounds of my neighbors, in fact I cannot hear anything coming from my next door neighbor. The ceiling, I can somewhat hear faint muffled footfall, but it has been reduced significantly. I knew from the beginning that the goal was not to achieve complete and utter silence, but to mitigate the noises that were driving me crazy at all hours of the day and night. My insulated room has a solid feeling that it lacked before. It is truly a quiet oasis and I would do this project again with City Soundproofing in a heartbeat. Michael conducted the initial site visit; he assessed the situation and took measurements, and shortly afterward provided a detailed proposal. The CSP office helped with all the paperwork (e.g. certificates of insurance), which went smoothly. The team that did the work was very reliable; they arrived on time every day and put in full workdays. They also did high quality work, both functionally with the soundproofing and aesthetically with the finishes (spackling, painting, and installing new crown molding). Mason installed sound-dampening materials on our front door (we live on the first floor, so there is a lot of noise from the stairs). He showed up to give the estimate on time, he was a really nice, cool guy who was good to be around, and he gave a straight-up estimate with a clear accounting of the costs. When he came back to do the install, we had the same experience -- he arrived on time, he did the work in the amount of time he said it would take, and he was extremely pleasant to deal with. Best of all, of course, is the fact that his installation worked and it looks good. Ours was a fairly simple job compared to the much more complex stuff City Soundproofing is capable of, but I would not hesitate to call Mason again for more complicated work. My midtown apartment has two doors to the hallway. I got tired of hearing hallway conversations and I don't like the idea of folks in the hallway hearing my conversations. So I called these guys to come take a look. I had both doors soundproofed....consisting of an exterior seal on the left, top and right sides, plus a "mechanical sweep" on the bottom. The sweep has a button on the hinge side of the jamb. When the door is closed the button is engaged which causes the sweep to lower and create a seal at the door bottom. Clever, but more importantly it works. Sound levels have been reduced very significantly. While you can't expect total silence in Manhattan, the reduction was a huge improvement. While there was a snafu with a supplier the dragged out the installation a bit, the guys were professional and I'm very happy with the results. I recommend City Soundproofing. read more

We had an odd noise problem that we couldn't remedy on our own. Our office's split A/C system has three small water pumps embedded in the walls to carry the condensate out from the wall units to the back of the building. Over time they started vibrating louder and louder when they'd come on, which was about every minute or two during summer. We had two A/C companies try to dampen the noise but one failed and the other estimated it would cost several thousand dollars. Mason of City Soundproofing came by and in maybe three hours of surrounding them with some sound absorbent material had them so quiet we couldn't hear them anymore without straining in dead silence! Just amazing. For a number of years we have had concerns about noise levels on the first floor of our hotel. Some half-hearted attempts were made to soundproof our main floor guest rooms, but nothing seemed to work. We had a really terrible echo situation in our office, specifically our conference rooms. We have wood floors, tall ceilings, and glass walls. Our main goal was to reduce this echo, so that our remote employees would be able to effectively communicate with people in the office during conference calls. I reached out to City Soundproofing to learn about soundproofing options in a kitchen gut renovation currently underway. My goals were to reduce sound transmission through the ceiling to compensate for the fact that I would be leaving the original ceiling joists exposed. Additionally, I live adjacent to a subway line, so I wanted to make at least some attempt to soundproof the walls, as any reduction --no matter how small -- would be a quality-of-life improvement.
