Been to a few City Taco locations with this one being our favorite. Great to visit alongside the Sunday outdoor market. Favorite tacos are diablo shrimp, chile relleno, and carnitas. And don't forget the churros with chocolate sauce. Agua Frescas are also delicious (spike them too). :) During the pandemic we were on the road a bunch for kids sports. The handmade corn tortillas were just a little thicker than normal, a good thing giving a unique chew and freshness while also standing up to the ample fillings. Shrimp was grilled to perfection. Still juicy and springy, not dry and stringy which can happen if overcooked. A bit too much sauce though. Portobello had so much going on!! Seasoned chopped mushroom, beans, corn, salsa, cheese and other stuff in a mountain of toppings. All I know it was good. All tacos are not created the same! I just came across this place and my wife and tried it based on Yelp reviews. Certainly earned their 5 star rating in our opinion. We had the crispy Shrimp tacos, Carnitas Tacos and crispy Fish Tacos. Throw in their mini Quesadillas and we had a great lunch. Authentic Coke in the bottles as well. This was our first time here. We were out celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary and strolling around downtown. We were doing a restaurant crawl and just wanted to try one taco. I will be back again and again and so should you! Rita was a wealth of knowledge and a fountain of friendliness! If you love tacos and you're health conscious (vegetarian/vegan/paleo/gluten free), then City Tacos is for you! Everything is freshly homemade. The taco display is as good as it tastes. There are also appetizers at the self-serve salsa bar. My friend and I had their cucumber slices, jicama strips, sauces/salsa (ranging from sweet to spicy). I'm not sure if they have happy hour but they do serve alcohols here. Friendly staff, fast service, chill ambiance and clean place. The hype is worth it. Best tacos in San Diego in my opinion. It's still grand opening week so I won't be surprised if people find this place and start coming here more than the Taco Stand located on the same street. We have been enjoying city tacos at least twice a week since opening in Encinitas and it's almost always been enjoyable. Tonight our order looked and tasted off. When we first checked the order, it didn't look right, so we took a bite of our regulars. We noticed an immediate chemical-y taste and called the Encinitas location to let them know. I was transferred to a woman who assured me nothing had changed at this location so my experience should be the same as it has been historically. Roughly an hour after this call (about 2.5-3 hours after easting) digestive issues started up. Since I had not been called back, I called the Encinitas location again and was hung up on by a woman who sounded just like Pina. Around 90 minutes later the digestive issues got worse for the two people who each ate 1 mexicali taco from our order. I tried calling another location to see if I could get a GM to contact me. I was helped by an incredibly kind man (I did not catch his name) who assured me he would pass my message along. We consider ourselves an iron stomach sort of family, so this was highly unusual and also the only food we'd consumed today. Around 5 minutes after I spoke to the kind man at the north park location, I was contacted by what sounded like the same woman (pina). During this call, she informed me she was, in fact, the general manager. I inquired as to why she told me she'd have to contact her manger, and was hung up on again. I called back and pina informed me I should contact the health department because the kitchen is fine. As an aside, Pina also threw out some insulting remarks about how I just wanted a refund and accusing me of looking for a free meal. I will be sad to part ways with our go to spot, but the typically great food cannot even overcome this experience. Hopefully this was just a fluke for our house! ETA: we just removed the foil layer between our tacos and discovered the attached video. read more

Coming back from the beach we were trying to find a spot to have a margarita and a taco where our pup could sit with us. We found City Tacos that had plenty of outdoor seating and dog friendly. The menu is outside then you proceed inside to place your order at the counter then a server will bring it out to you. When I asked if they had margaritas the server told me that it comes in a can. I said that was fine I'll try it. Hands down worst margarita I've ever had. I'm not usually one to waste a drink, but I couldn't even finish it. I ended up ordering a beer instead. They told me it wasn't made from tequila, but wine. The tacos were okay overstuffed and actually had to eat with a fork my husband said that's the first time he's ever had a taco eating the tortilla first. Looked for somewhere that had good reviews and nice outdoor seating area (vaccinated, but remaining cautious with covid)- this fit the bill! Of the three the mexicali was by far my favorite, the addition of mashed potatoes was new for me- but I loved it. The food came super fast but everything tasted wonderful and the ingredients were so fresh. I ordered the Chile rellenos taco and the portabello taco. The portabello was good, but the Chile relleno taco was out of this world! The pepper was beer battered - soft with the perfect amount of crunch, cheesy with a nice spicy bite! I will definitely be ordering that one again. My husband ordered the carne asada taco and fajita sonorense. He enjoyed both of them and was really impressed with the amount of protein in each (since a lot of place skimp on the meat). We will definitely be back! Service was fast and friendly.
