Out of all the local places this week this overall was the most disappointing. Drinks had and odd taste. Not sure... I don't think they were using coke or Pepsi. Maybe the mix was off. City Tavern is located Bay Street looking towards the Caloosahatchee River. It do not have a view from river but is located at prime area between the two US 41 bridges. It is walking distance to the restaurant if you work downtown Ft. Myers. It is an old tavern has a the pirate charm. The restaurant is kind empty when we visited for lunch. Basically a cook and a waitress is there. A few patron at the bar and a table of customers. I have the blackened shrimp taco. The shrimp is average. It has ok blackened seasoning. It come with chip on the side. Total three tacos to fill your stomach. Nothing to remember about the food. Price is a bit high. Service is good. My sweet ice tea got refill quickly. read more

I will start by saying Hotdogs are my comfort food!! They have Coney Island hotdogs for $3.75 and 2 for $8 includes 1 side. We stopped on our lunch hour and easily got back to the office on time. Thanks to Meghan we will be going back. She was friendly, always had a smile and quick to take our order and followed up to see if we needed anything. There's a beautiful bar, plenty of seating, great service and good food- what else could you ask for? Let's all pour one out for City Tavern bartenders being shady af today... Was there for 2-3 hours max - went to close out my tab to be told I didn't have one. I assured them I did, then they backpedaled and said oh yea, our bartender went home so she just closed you out and tipped herself 20% (which I would have regardless but was not even given the chance) also....no. You do that if I go home and forget to close out my tab at the end of the night, not between the hours of 5-8pm because you're lazy. I asked for a receipt to see what was charged to my tab (that was closed out without my consent) and was told they "can't find it." Fast forward 5 minutes later to see the same bartender I opened my tab with still behind the bar... And we wonder why people don't want to go downtown anymore - get your act together. On my first night in Fort Myers, after frequenting a few breweries, I found myself at City Tavern in their downtown area. With my friend in tow, we chilled out at the bar and enjoyed some grub during our first stop of the night in the River District. Situated across from the Caloosahatchee River, City Tavern has a location where you can either enjoy beers in the afternoon, start your night with a drink, go to check out a local band, or finish your night. The cool thing about City Tavern is that it has a very neighborhood vibe for being a bar in a downtown area, as you were. With both pub seating and stools at the bar, you can definitely bring friends and enjoy wings, burgers, some drinks, listen to some live music, and have a good time. Don't ask me what beers I had. All I know is that I drank them, and asked for more. I think I did have a French Dip for dinner, and wolfed that down like nobody's business. Whether you're from the Fort Myers area or passing through, City Tavern is a good spot to check out. read more

My first time here with my wife last night. Went to meet some friends here. Sooooo loud it's so hard to hear people's conversations at your own table. Reminds me of a middle school & high school cafeteria. That's how loud it is. You can't even hear the music through the speakers. I'm a cider drinking guy, and their Ace Pineapple Cider and 3 Daughter's Key Lime Cider were awful in my opinion. They need more and new selections of cider. Ciders were $5.50 each. What a waste of money. We ordered the flatbread Tavern Pizza and that tasted like I could've made it at home and saved my money. $10 bucks wasted. I could of bought pepperoni and cheese and flat bread with tomato sauce and boom a pizza I could've made at home. No special taste at all. I saw what my friends ordered too, and it all looks like just regular food you could make at home. When I go out I'm sure I'm like everyone else, *Want to have a fun good time *Food has to taste good and like a taste you can't really get at home-that's why you are really paying out at a restaurant *relax no dishes clean up *see friends or family And more I won't be here again but I'm not saying everyone should not go here. It looks like age range for this place was from late 20's -to- early -50's. It's was pretty crowded and hard to hear and talk. I'd give one star but I also have to see the good things too. My cousin and I found our way here when asking Meghan, who was setting up City Tavern outside seating, about why the Barrel Room wasn't open at 1230... and so glad we did. It is a typical wooded bar with exposed brick and photos on the walls of local historical places. It is not a refined setting, but a good local neighborhood working lunch place with pool tables and live music on the weekends.. Whisky options abound as well as varied drafts and cocktails.
