I've been a loyal customer of this shop for a while, bringing multiple vehicles here for oil changes and other repairs. That's why this experience was especially disappointing. I originally brought my car in because of a grinding/scraping noise. I was told the wheel hub bearing was the problem, and I paid around $800 to have it replaced. About two to three months later, the exact same noise and problem came back. I returned to the shop and asked them to inspect it, expecting the previous repair to be honored or at least thoroughly re-evaluated. Instead, I was told it was a completely different issue that would require another repair and another payment. From my perspective, it was the exact same symptom that I originally paid to have fixed. I took the car to my family mechanic for another opinion. During the inspection, he found my engine oil level was nearly empty, even though this shop had performed my oil change less than 4 months earlier. He also didn't find any obvious signs of an external oil leak, which made me even more concerned. I understand that diagnosing cars can be challenging and that not every repair is guaranteed to solve a problem. However, paying around $800 for a repair that didn't resolve the issue, being told the recurring problem was something different and would require even more money to fix, and then discovering my engine oil was nearly empty after trusting this shop with routine maintenance left me very disappointed. As a repeat customer, I expected better service and more accountability when the same issue returned. To top it off, the handwritten receipt was extremely difficult to read, making it frustrating to understand exactly what work had been documented. City Tech has been around for decades. The brothers seems to be very hard working humble people but, the shop is a complete mess and pretty sketchy. We stopped coming to City Tech Auto Repair nearly 10 years ago after some bad experiences from them. Bad Experiences: The owners hire cheap labor workers to work on preventative maintenance like oil changes, tire patch and rotations, air filters, brake jobs, tune ups etc. These workers most likely aren't ASE Certified and probably has little knowledge about cars. I can recall once our 2010 Toyota Camry SE needed an oil change. First off, they use the cheapest motor oil brand that I needed to do a Google Search on it. (Can't recall the brand since this was more than 10 years ago) One of the workers removed our cabin air filter and suggested us to replace. We refused since we know how to DIY, he then puts it back and broke off the plastic hinge that holds the glove compartment. Dude acts like nothing has happened. Another situation happened when our 2011 Nissan Sentra was misfiring and they went to go fix the vehicle. After calling us to pick up the car, claiming it was fixed, I drove off the lot and it literally died in the middle of the street. The car was revving randomly and obviously there is some sort of misfire. I started the car and slowly crawl my way back to the shop. The owner was able to use the OBD II scanner and reprogram the vehicle but that vehicle even till today runs pretty rough on idle. That was the last time we ever trusted City Tech with our cars. Overall: Don't recommend coming here at all. Not even oil changes. It seems they have a cheaper smog check deal compared to others but, I still wouldn't go. As some Yelpers have expressed some concerns about this shop. The parts City Tech uses are literally the cheapest they can find. If they can find a part off of Temu, I wouldn't surprised they'll have no problem using it on your car. Just very sad to even do this review since the owners seemed like humble people. But customer integrity and satisfaction is paramount. read more

Dishonest Owners Failed smog check cuz the check engine light indicated a sensor issue, and it had something to do with emission control system. Panicked so i went here for Diagnostic, one of the Brothers said it's the Transmission, needed a new Transmission or Rebuilt Transmission. Went home puzzled and confused, so i did my own research and scanned with my own OBDII device, it reads bad sensor... Ordered the Sensor, costs $50 off Amazon and car runs new again.. Was puzzled and confused coz i had cars with bad/slipping transmissions before and i was aware of the symptoms it caused. it's metal gears, so "if" it's a Transmission it will continue to Slip until it's Dead. Coz it's metal gears issues doesn't come and go, it gradually gets worse and dies within a week or two..., not acting intermittently. That was the reason i knew it wasn't the Transmission.. This Place is Dishonest, the Owners/Brothers are Dishonest, and i'm also a Firm Believer the Employees are a reflection of their Management, but "if" y'all are born with $$$ and ignorant/naive then maybe this place is the right place for y'all.. He was going to Charge me the price of a Transmission and turn around and sell my Good Transmission to unsuspecting Someone Else.... in Reality, ALL He had to do was change my Sensor($50) and charge me a Few Thousands.... Got a smog check here yesterday. I called first to check they're open on Sundays. Google said they close at 3 PM. They were open and quoted me $45 for my car on the phone. This review is long overdue. I used to go here years ago for car problems and they're super fast and knowledgeable. I'd drive from an hour away because they'd always know what the underlying issue is and they'd fix it for a very reasonable price. The two brothers were probably two of the best overall mechanics in CA as customers trusted them. Other reviews are saying that they hired cheap labor. I hope they stop this practice and hope they'll be able to clean up their staff as bad staff might cause them to lose customers. If staff is incompetent or rude or just don't care about customers, the shop will also end up losing their once great reputation. Came here for an oil change and they did it so quickly! They also updated me at every step of the way. They also showed me my dirty filters and opted to change them for me for $55 bucks. The oil change and the filters came out to about 118. I did come with my dad a couple weeks prior to get my egr replaced and they did a good job with that but when I was alone for my oil change, they said that I needed to change my brake pads since it was really worn out. I went home and had my dad check it and went to another auto shop to get a second opinion and they said I had two more years of driving with my current brake pads. So what a rip off!! This place is shitty. I brought my own brake pad there and they charged me $200 for labor installation of 4 brake pad, including disc surfacing. A few weeks later, there is a grinding noise at the front brake, I brought my car back to show to the owner named Cuong, and he said the disc is defective, it needs to be replaced with a new one. I told him it is not true because I requested to do disc surfacing before brakepad installation. He told me there is not warranty because I brought my own brake pad. They don't deserve not even one star, but that's the lowest star we can give it, replaced the transmission, and then there was clonking noise, Danny's mechanic and his other mechanic said that I need a control arm, which it will cost around $500.00, and then we took it to another shop, then they discovered that control arm bolts were left loose, that's where the clonking noise was coming from they did tighten it so the clonking noise went away, the time came to change the motor mount and specifically on the transmission, the mechanic discovered that when City Tech they somehow they used different or maybe larger size bolt and the transmission case was cracked, they did not want touch it and they said take it back to City Tech to fix it, we will never go back to this place ever, they are sloppy, once they take your money you are done. read more

My tire pressure sensor was completely fine before getting their service. After their service, the pressure sensor light was ON... I came back to check with them. A Customer's Life In The Hands Of This Mechanic: Recently, I took my car to "City Tech Auto Repair" for a quote to repair the lower control arm and the swag bar link. Mechanics Ricky and Danny gave me a quote of $4,000+ of which the cost of parts and labors showed a lump sum amount in each item but no company name on it (photos attached). This was impossible to know how much sales tax to pay on part. Since one particular piece was on "back order", I asked them if I could get it myself and how much was the service cost but they refused the use of outside parts. As I told them that I would like to think it over, Danny asked for $45.00 of "inspection fee" of which was never brought up in our conversation beforehand; he later waived that upon my protest. Then, Ricky asked me to return their written quote, I requested his permission to take picture of it. When I was done, however, he didn't want it anymore. Meanwhile, instead of returning my "vehicle wheel lock key" to me, Danny gave me a damaged one. Danny claimed, he was the one who put the wheel back in. He demanded me to pay him money first then he would open the wheel lock key to prove it was a working key. However, he then took a huge hammer to hammer in the key and would not open it. He still insisted I pay him to open the wheel lock. When I came in, there was no problem with my wheel lock key and it could slide in easily. I talked to him nicely and calmly without raising my voice. He refused to do it and walked away. Then, there were two mechanics came to my rescue, Danny yelled at them from far away not to help me. Then, a 3rd mechanic, who initially opened the wheel lock, came to help me. However, to his surprise that the wheel lock key could not go in. He used the hammer, scraped some of it off, adjusted it back and forth attempting to open the lock. Again, Danny yelled at him but he ignored Danny and continued his attempts until he could open my car wheel lock. He apologized to me and I thanked him for solving the problem. This was where I discover what they did to my car. They sabotaged it. Upon leaving 'City Tech Auto Repair' shop I drove off about 9 miles to pick up my kids from school. I noticed a squeaking metal noise on my front driver side. After I investigated the problem, I discovered that the brake had come off. I also found that there were two missing bolts that held on the brake assembly to the rotor (attached photos). Thank God, I was fortunate that I had been driving on a local street with heavy traffic. Could you imagine what would have happened if I was driving on the freeway at full speed? There would have been a major accident with myself and my kids. Who could have known what would have happened to us and everyone else. I feel that out of malice, they damaged my car. The reason I said this was that I did not have these problems prior to my visit to "City Tech Auto Repair". I came in to get the quote and because they didn't get the job on the spot, all of this happened. What happened was more than wrong. A customer's life is in the hands of this mechanic! read more

Don't let the look on the outside deceive you! This is actually a hole in a wall of a place to get oil change. Beats waiting 1 - 2hour + at dealerships or Costco! I generally come here for my oil change. Their oil change price is just as typical as all other oil change locations. For a small car like my Prius, it's $25 for basic oil that will run 3k till next change or $45 for synthetic oil, that will run 7k until the next change. Their service is quick, I never have to wait more than 30 minutes for the whole process from door to finish. And the brothers -- Danny and Anothany always make sure everything runs smoothly. (I especially like Danny!) I have always gotten my oil change here with no problem. The waiting lounge have AC, which is perfect for the summer time! read more

October/24/2024, I went to City Tech Auto Repair to have my car fixed due to the ENGINE CHECK icon showed up in my car. The owner of CTAR told me that "one compartment" ( the name is Evap Canister part ) of my car was broken after smoke check. I have to pay $ 80 for inspection, $ 350 for new part, $ 220 for labor. In order to make sure the expensive part CTAR replaced in my car was a new one, I've been standing around watching how their technician working. After my broken part disassembled, surprise me greatly was that the new part they were going to install was a used one, its surface covered with dust and its cables being twisted. So I question them why not a new one? The technician left the work and went away. A few minutes after, a person from their office came to me and forbidden me to stand by and watch. Later, I paid the owner $ 80 cash, $ 570 with credit card plus $ 33.25 credit card charge tax the owner required. Four days after I drove back my car the icon of ENGIN CHECK showed up again. October 29/2024, I went to CTAR again. The owner told me the new Part they installed was crack. I don't believe what the owner said, so I went to another neighbor auto repair shop and found the part CTAR replaced was a used one but has sprayed a thin black finish on the surface to make its look good. Finally I spent $ 280 for a real new part, $ 80 for labor and got my car fixed at this neighbor auto repair shop. read more

I had my 2016 Honda Pilot oil changed, the Tech overfill the oil. they said the car was ready and tested. after I got on the I-5 freeway 10 min later, the smoke and engine shut off with all the lights flashing on the dashboard. when I call to let them know what was going on, they denied it right away and told me to bring it to Honda Dealer, after the dealer did a code check, they told me it was overfilled oil in the engine.
