For this reason I am dropping a star. The game was fun and a good team builder for a group. However I would have expected that the app would ensure that the area selected would have the items required on the scavenger hunt. Example: The grove had no arcade games and no spa chairs for a massage so both teams wasted time and effort looking for them. read more

THE DAY HAS COME! No longer are scavenger hunts relegated to "Saved by the Bell" episodes and globe trotting reality TV shows, they're accessible to all of us now! Now, if you don't like looking ridiculous in front of strangers, this is not for you. Also, you suck. BIGTIME. I'm judging you at this very moment. But if you enjoy discovering new things; "Amazing Race"-type excitement; using your knowledge and creativity...and uh, the internet; and occasionally looking "special" to random bystanders, then scavenger hunting is totally your thing. Also, let's hang out because you're probably a fun person. Well, unless you're creepy. Please lemme know if you're creepy. This was definitely TWO off the bucket list under the "Miscellaneous/ Non-Categorizable" section of my list requiring me to 1) Do a scavenger hunt, and 2) Ask a total stranger to do something ridiculous with me. Thanks to cityHunt LA!! I'm a Groupon whore so you can imagine how I found out about cityHunt. My dreamteam of 3+me chose the Downtown LA hunt and it covered a pretty large area, especially considering Downtown blocks are pretty well hung. So it definitely involved some good exercise, but it wasn't so large that it wasn't manageable. The best is when you go in NOT knowing what to expect so I'm keeping my mouth shut about details. But I know EXACTLY what you're thinking, don't worry, you seriously don't need to be the smartest or most creative person to play this, it really is for everyone. You don't need to know about your hunt area as much as you think you do (although it is advantageous to be a little knowledgeable), but it's still enough of a challenge to try to get through everything in the time limit. Above all, it's a blast! The staff was pretty cool, chill, and professional. And they give you everything you need, so you don't need to bring anything really, except a smart phone with internet access, your ID (for bars), and maybe a bottle of water. Oh, and some cash/credit if you wanna eat/drink before or after the hunt. WTF, I'm seriously my mom with the obvious advice... I'm not even kidding you when I say that I didn't think I would enjoy myself as much as I did. My team felt the same exact way. On top of that, we won the hunt!! Some prizes ensued, including a gift certificate to the bar we were at, which basically provided us with some free food and drinks. Oh and we weren't allowed to run on the hunt. So, um, we skipped...and lemme tell you, skipping is so much harder than I remember as a kid! We strategized, we skipped, we conquered! PS, I'm not so sure I agree with everyone else that it's "Good for Kids" because we had to go to 21+ bars. But maybe the folks cater the hunt when children sign up. read more

I came here with 4 other friends for my birthday after finding out about it on KGB Deals and had an unbelievable time. The challenges were funny, creative, and completely doable (high five a bald man with a beard, take a picture of a teammate in drag). You can do most of the challenges within the allotted time, and if you try hard enough you can complete all of them. The higher point challenges usually require you to spend some extra money--in my case, we had to buy drinks at a few bars. It's a big adrenaline rush and having to get as many points before the time limit ends really keeps you busy. You should prepare yourself by: 1) not being afraid to ask strangers to pose for weird pictures/take pictures for you, 2) bringing a little extra cash, 3) wearing comfortable shoes because you'll be running around for hours, and 4) bringing a smartphone with internet access. The smart phones were vital to completing some of the challenges and solving the riddles, so I highly recommend bringing at least one. Also, they provide the cameras (so you don't have to worry about breaking your own on accident) and post up the pictures online afterward so you can download them for your own enjoyment! One tiny, tiny complaint is that the challenges had a few spelling errors that weren't corrected before we started ("Brittannia" was misspelled "Brittanica" and the "Ehrich" was misspelled as "Elrich") which threw my team off a little bit, but it was a really minor thing that didn't really take away from the experience at all--even though we didn't win the hunt, we had an amazing experience. All in all, cityHunt is well-organized and guarantees a good-time. The challenges are fun and not too difficult (but not easy, either), and it's a really unique experience. The event coordinators were really friendly and approachable, and I'd definitely try it again. read more

The whole concept behind CityHunt is that it's supposed to be an urban scavenger hunt much like Amazing Race. There are several companies that do these types of races. I came with a group of 3 people but other groups were much larger and had a significant advantage. I wish they were more strict about this. I feel like the way this is designed is for people who are more interested in taking pictures and drinking than actually racing and solving clues. We spent a lot of time taking photos in our NoHo hunt. They also required us to put together an art project which I'm not entirely sure at which point in the scavenger hunt we were supposed to have time to do this. The entire team is supposed to stay together. It was fun, but I think I'll try a different company next time. read more

This is a fun team building activity. We ended the day saying that we all had a lot of fun and everyone on our team was able to contribute. It requires a lot of walking, so I was glad I wore tennis shoes. The individual setup instructions were pretty vague and we had some technical problems using the app. The app interface is limited and kind of frustrating to use. Because the need to take pictures/videos and use a lot of data, it drained our phone batteries quickly, especially older phones. Overall fun. Still has room for improvement. read more

Totally fun. I went with friends expecting to do the hunt with them. The teams were broken up by the organizers, so we didn't get to do it as one big group, but that was actually half the fun. I love meeting new people and if people are down for this activity, you can assume they're cool. :) The whole experience happened on one street (which is nice) but there was so much going on it was still a huge challenge. My favorite clues were the ones that made us take a drink or interact with strangers - in Hollywood that's easy to do. Well-organized, good people, new experiences and fun memories. I'd def do it again to get to know another area of my hometown better. Good for friends or flirting ;) read more

The hunt was fun & and we enjoyed the team effort. However there is room for improvements to be made. First, there was not good wifi connections at the location and we had a number of issues just getting logged in to start. Luckily one of our team members had a hot spot. Second, they said there was more than enough challenges than time, which was untrue. My team finished first, and had about 10 minutes to go. 2 other teams finished shortly after us. Because 3 people 'tied' for first, the app picks winners and defaulted us in random order. Our team then was no longer #1 which likely wouldn't have happened had we not run out of challenges. Third, you have to enter captions with each photo as part of the challenge. Sadly it was unclear that you would't ever see these later in the download or slideshow. The only way to view is during the game, which most people didn't see as it only shows in the spy mode. We spent a lot of effort trying to be clever and it didn't have much payback. Fourth, they really need to have an automated export of the slideshow after the game (that includes captions). Unfortunately for me, I was one of the staff members responsible for downloading images and putting a slideshow together after the hunt. I tried to trouble shoot this as much as possible before the day of event, but sadly, we had issues at every turn. We couldn't locate the download link, we had bad internet connection and it took for ever to get the media. Not exactly how I wanted to spend the meal portion of out staff day. Our IT person also had to haul around computer and projection equipment so we could watch it at a restaurant. The other option was too not participate in the hunt and do this work during that time period-which didn't sound like a whole lot of fun during what was supposed to be a fun team building day. Overall, seems like City Hunt could solve this problem by creating slide show in there app and giving all players a download or watchable link. or st the very least create the slideshow and work with some of the local restaurants to make viewing easier. read more
