Confusing signage. Ticket for using the wrong lot with a pay station within 10 feet of my car!

It's a large garage, seemingly with plentiful spaces, although I don't know how often it might fill due to convention center activities. Air-conditioned pedestrian walkways connect the third floor (Blue level) to the convention center and the Marriott (turning out to be the Marriott's first floor). The garage is $20/day most of the week, but $8/day after 5:00pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. There're no in-and-out privileges with the 24-hour price. When we were there, the garage was fully automated - the pay booths had no attendants and the pre-pay machines were turned off, so you paid with a credit card at the drive-up machine at the exit.

Took my kiddo to the Lego fair in (I think) August 2014. Parked in this garage at 5th & Marshall. I…read morecouldn't tell you now what happened, but I recall something shady going on - perhaps it was their signs were misleading about the cost? Or maybe I just didn't have the cash on me? I don't recall. Whatever the case, I recall the attendant being super snarky with me and it took all I had not to be rude right back, primarily because my 8 yo son was in the car with me. I filled out their IOU card just to get out of the parking lot. Never thought about it again. So here we are 16 months later. I rec'd a letter from these folks today (11/12/15) stating that I owe them $8 and if I don't pay it by 11/15 it'll be turned over to collections. Three problems with this - 1. You're sending me a statement for the first time for a balance due from over a year ago. 2. The letter is dated 11/1. Postmark on the envelope is 11/9. I received it 11/12. And you want payment by 11/15. Hmmmm . . . 3. I called and asked if I could pay online rather than mailing a check. Nope. How archaic is that? Get a PayPal account or something. Seems to me this business needs to get itself together. I'm giving 2 stars because it was a convenient parking deck and my car did not get broken into.

Straight up, no one likes getting towed. The feeling of being stolen from, the cost, the time…read morelost/schedules foiled... It's no bueno, your fault or not. I can only imagine how hard it is to be on the receiving end of Marshall Bros phone calls. They for sure get an earful on the regular. And that can harden even a saint. However, the folks at Marshall Bros were professional, and in-kind, I was too. YES, I would've appreciated knowing where they were *actually* located (I went to Roseneath as per 911 and a web search), that my car was safe, and when was the soonest I could come get it -- they really should add that info on their outgoing voicemail message, but they don't. I hope my post here offers you the info you're needing. 1. If you're towed after 7pm / before 8:30am YOU WILL NOT get your car back that day. At 7pm the phone goes unanswered, try to enjoy your evening, call back in the morning. 2. Marshall Bros is not in Scotts Addition anymore, haven't been for awhile. The police seem not to have that info correct either. The gal at Marshall Bros told me they've tried to fix it with the city, but I guess no one has applied that info to 911 / 311 records. 3. Rest assured your car has been taken to a gated lot. When I inspected mine there was no damage to my car. And stupidly, I left my wallet in the car. I was relieved that nothing was stolen. 4. Contrary to other reviews, they take all credit cards. I was charged $125. 5. Retrieval at 8:30 is easy and fast. Being a fan of Marshall Bros is a bit of a stretch, and I'm not disputing others bad experiences, but I'd like to add balance to the many poor reviews I read last night. They made me very nervous. In hindsight, now that I have my car back, it was as good as a towing experience could be. Now if they'd only re-record their voicemail giving folks some info, THAT would be 5-stars.

I requested written authorization from the tow company, and they refused to provide it. Under…read moreVirginia Code §46.2-1232, private property towing requires authorization from the property owner or agent. Under Virginia Code §46.2‑1231, private property towing requires that signs be posted at all entrances that clearly and conspicuously notify drivers that unauthorized vehicles may be towed. The signs must provide the conditions under which vehicles may be towed. At the Kroger lot at 901NLombardy St, no signage indicated a 2-hour parking limit, yet the tow company claimed that I violated this limit. Because there was no posted time-limit signage, I could not have known that my vehicle was allegedly parked too long, and therefore the tow was improper and in violation of Virginia law.
