I picked the wrong day to visit this restaurant. Service was very slow for this Sunday evening. Food was over-cooked and sparse. I ordered the Lure of the Sea with 3 shrimp- 3 oysters a fish filet-fries and hush puppies. Didn't get any slaw as the menu says. For $20.99 I would've been better going to a Red Lobster!! read more

Fantastic food. I've had almost everything on the menu. My favorites are still the Salmon BLT and the Beef tips.

We came to celebrate after reading such great reviews on this site. Other than awesome service, we were unfortunately disappointed. She Crab soup was bland sans crab. The stuffed rockfish, thin, overcooked and dry as was the small crab cake atop. Veggies were nice as was the steamed shrimp. I guess you have to know what and what not to order here. We were not so dissatisfied that we wouldn't try it again. Perhaps it was just an off day. read more

Food was great. The venue, however was so loud that one had to shout to be heard across the tables, which were overcrowded. We will be back for food, but probably midday, when the kids are not out in abuncance. read more

I had Sunday brunch here a few Sunday's ago. The place was definitely packed when we got there, but regardless, service was great. My server was super sweet and very attentive. She made my experience at CJ finz very enjoyable! I will be back! The Sunday brunch was great! I had the crab benny and it was very yummy. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, but the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. It's essentially a crummy sports bar with loud (mostly bad) music. Sorry, but if I am going to splurge and spend $100 on drinks and dinner, the restaurant has to be nicer than this. I may go back for a sandwich at lunch some time, or maybe try the outdoor seating when the weather warms up, but this spot would not be high on my list for dinner. read more

The food is great! I had the blackened Mahi the first time I went and yesterday at lunch had the Fish and Chips, which were light as air. Lunch on the deck was perfect, great service and great food. When I went a few weeks ago at dinner there was a party of loud drunks ruining the experience, but that's not the fault of the restaurant. Lunch was nicer though. read more

I went for my birthday last June excited to try this place after hearing and reading all the rave reviews. We went in around lunch time on a weekday and there were local contractors drinking and were rather loud. It took awhile for our waitress who didn't seem to want to be there come to see us. We ordered some mixed drinks, birthday afterall. They were overpriced and not that great. We asked our server what they recommended for an appetizer, she suggested the crab fries. If we would've just had that, our review would've been much better. I ordered the lobster roll, which wasn't very good. They overcooked the lobster so it was very chewy, the tarragon mayo was eh and the roll wasn't the buttery New England roll described whatsoever. I have family in New England and this isn't what a lobster roll is supposed to taste like. My spouse had the ahi tuna tacos which were also not that great, you can get better tacos at Zandra's Taqueria down the road. I was excited to eat seafood in my hometown only to be disappointed on my birthday. We won't be back to this restaurant and the new one they opened in Manassas Park if it's like this one. read more

HORRIBLE. Went with three other people....they got their meals mine came 25 minutes later when the waiter was clearing our table. No apology....nothing. And we were charged full price. What a wonderful find!! Had the BEST filet Oscar! Worthy of any 5star restaurant!! Large party and we were all happy with our meals-- a huge feat indeed! CJ Finz has a pretty limited menu and even more limited sitting arrangements. The service is good and the food is great, we just wish we had more to choose from and a larger facility. A single crowded box of a room is really loud and there isn't much space outside either. read more

This place is so awesome! Great food, service and comfortable atmosphere. Old town has a new kid on the block and it's got Finz!!!! Highly recommend the crab cheese fries, and the lobster Mac and Cheese. Had lobster mac not too long ago at the Capital Grill, and while it was tasty it was very hard finding the Lobster! Not so at CJ Finz, not only could you find the lobster but the dish was chock full of it. We have a new restaurant in our rotation and I'm thinking it will be at the top of our list!!!!!!! read more

A group of us (6 adults) ate at CJ's for the first time recently. The service was very good and staff were friendly and personable. All of us were pleased with the dishes we ordered. The crabcakes were very good with just the right amount of filler. Fried pickles were a hit with a spicy remoulade. Cocktails were yummy as well. We started with their "crab hush puppies." Imagine cheap crabcakes from the frozen food section of your grocery store, served in hush puppy form. Not the good crabcakes made with big chunks of crab meat and pan fried, the cheap ones where the crab is blended with bread crumbs into a sort of moist concoction, and then deep fried. $10 for a half dozen of them. The lobster roll looked good, but kind of on the small side. Nice, identifiable chunks of lobster, and my wife said it was properly cooked and tasted good. I had the fried oyster sandwich, which was pretty decent. Each sandwich was accompanied by a modest portion of warm (but not hot) french fries - no side choices were offered by our waitress, and I didn't spot any on the menu. We split a piece of salted caramel cake for dessert. I have never had a piece of cake that tasted so much like it had spent a couple of months in a freezer. The texture was poor, and it just had that freezer taste to it. We probably won't go back, but if we do, we'll be skipping the appetizers and desserts. The sandwiches were quite good, the rest of the food was lacking. With 2 iced teas, our meal came to $53 and change. Add in an $11 dollar tip (I see the problems as owner/manager problems, I'm not going to punish the server for them), and I can't help but think they could reduce their prices if they didn't have so many people on staff. If at any time half the staff of a restaurant is standing around talking to each other and watching television, and you have a bartender standing with his arms crossed leaning back against the register... well, you have too many people on shift. read more

CJ Finz was my favorite place to go when it opened. But oh has it gone down hill since. Portions smaller. Quality worse. These can't be the same chefs as before. Don't even want to come to my favorite place anymore. Tonight might be my final visit. Not worth the price. I might as well be at Redlobster. Bonefish is better than this place now. read more

Three of us dined here yesterday and had a wonderful experience. The place is small, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. No problem -- we passed the time with cocktails. When we were seated, our server was prompt and attentive, and the food was great. We started with crab fries which were rich and decadent, but like the other plates at CJ Finz, was not a huge portion. That's not a criticism -- it was a perfectly appropriate portion, but would've left three hungry guys wanting for more. For us moderately hungry women, we polished it off with no problem, but there was no way there would be leftovers to take home. I then had the lobster mac 'n cheese which was insanely decadent, one friend had a stuffed fish special that was apparently fantastic, and the other had a wonderful mussels appetizer with a caprese salad. The salad was the only non-loved item; the balsamic dressing overpowered the taste of the mozzarella so much that it was not clear that the mozzarella was even mozzarella. We finished off the night with an amazing flourless chocolate torte that was rich and fudgey, and a bread pudding that I didn't try, but I was told it was excellent. This place is ok and I would go again. In general, the food is good, the product fresh, service friendly. Once we went with friends and sat at the bar by the window, enjoyed mussels and crab cakes. Recently three of us went with a reservation for 6:15 on a August Friday night. They didn't ask whether we wanted an outside table or inside when the res was made. When we arrived, the only open space was upstairs in the bright sun. Even with the umbrella, it was too hot. We had them lower the shade and that helped. Raw oysters were fresh and cold, yum. Fried calimari tempura style, very tasty and crunchy. My tablemates who ordered salmon and bacon-wrapped scallops were happy with their choices. My baked rockfish topped with crab and she crab soup was ok, not great. The side of brussel sprouts delish. But the fish tasted a little of being defrosted -- huh? And the crab soup on top was too salty for me, I should have requested it on the side. So overall, fine, but not perfect. It's all subjective anyway, right? I will return and keep ordering the shellfish, stick with simple preparations. Wine list short but adequate. read more

We went there on Friday the 28th. The cocktails were ok. Their version of an Old Fashioned was too sweet and topped off with soda water - who does that anymore? It ruins an Old Fashioned. I had the She Crab soup - a lot more "She" than crab and not very hot. I also ordered their Wedge salad and asked for some fried oysters. The wedge was small compared to all other places that typically serve you a quarter of a head of iceberg the fried oysters were good but not worth the $18.98. RB ordered the crab cake sandwich - VERY small crab cake. JR ordered the shrimp and grits - again very small portion - not a lot of shrimp and so so. VP had the Mahi Mahi tacos. Not a lot of fish - no sides offered, suggested or paired with the tacos. I'm wondering if they were running low on seafood & lettuce that night? Nice vibe there. Seems to me they are trying to decide whether they should be an OUTSTANDING seafood grille OR a good lively bar. Appears to be the latter. read more
