Best food hands down! Love the pizza and cheese bread. Michigan salad is the bomb. Yummmm

As of lately, I am very disappointed with CJ's. The food is good, the staff is nice (albeit sometimes they do not check their tables enough). However, the real problem is the change in their menu (or perhaps it's the management). Don't get me wrong, I am all for vamping up the food options; but there are items that use to be on the menu that no longer are. For a moment, upon request, they would still make the items they removed (because they did not stop carrying the needed ingredients). Unfortunately for us long-time regulars, they will not oblige us in that manner anymore. One of my favorite items to order was their Buffalo Chicken Pizza. Sure I could find a different place that will make it, but other restaurant's versions do not compare. It is a shame CJ's does not take better care of their consumers. read more

Their pizza is great and it is our favorite in the area. That is the only reason we are giving two stars because we will continue to only get pizza from here. We have tried a couple of their other menu items on location and to go, the food comes as written and is nothing special. On quite a few occasions we have gotten food to go and the food came burnt and undercooked, making it inedible. But they have only burnt the pizza once out of the many times we have go it to go. The customer service here is mediocre, borderline not very good. There is a constant air as if the customers are an inconvenience to the workers, even when interacting with the managers. We have been put on hold a couple of times when ordering to go and completely forgotten about, having to call again. We even received hair in a food item once and made to feel like it was our fault. The item was taken off of our bill though. I hope that the inconsistency in the kitchen and the front of house can be improved. read more

I went to CJ's with a few friends for dinner around 8pm on 5/9/18 and we were told that the kitchen was on break and they were unable to seat us nor we could have any drinks. This is the first time I have ever heard that the entire restaurant staff would take a break during dinner time. I have visited CJ's many times in the last 20+ years and we go to CJ's every Wednesday after softball and the service and the food has been great and yesterday was a unusual and I would hope the owner would train the staff better to handle situation like this. read more

No Social Distancing! 4.2.2020 - went to pick up our carryout order during coronavirus lock down situation. CJ's requires you to go inside, pay, and pick up your order. It was 6:40 pm...even though sign on door says only 2 customers inside at a time, there were more, plus 2 more jammed into small entrance foyer...not safe at all! They had a lot if carryout orders set up inside...only way they can control this for safe social distance of at least 6 feet would be if CJ's delivers orders to individual vehicles...they have good food - we've been going there for years - but I will NOT get any more carryout orders during this coronavirus situation until they figure out how to safely provide pickup and social distancing! read more

However, over time, we have had such exceptional service that we look forward to coming back. Dave always has had a pleasant smile and a welcoming, warm personality. We've been coming here since they opened, and they have great beer brewed on the premises. The Scotch Ale is usually outstanding (this year's batches have been only good so far). The IPA is always good as well as the Lower Straits Stout. Food is generally good. Service is almost always good, the bad waitresses don't last long. read more

Labor Day and didn't want to cook so we headed out of the house. By 6 pm, CJs was pretty packed. Could be that it was Monday - buy one pizza, get second at half price? Of that the beer selections were great? Whatever it was, we were glad we came. I had the Cap'n Crunch Chicken, because who doesn't love Captain Crunch cereal? The cereal breading added a nice sweetness and even though the menu says pan-fried, Nicole, our server, told us they pass it through the pizza oven so it's baked. I asked for the Honey Mustard sauce on the side and glad I did. The chicken didn't need any extra sweetness. Hubby had the Brew House Pork Ribs which he seemed to like as his plate was empty at the end of eating. Hard to find places that serve dark beers in the summer, so hubby enjoyed a good stout beer. Decor is simple - plywood booth benches with cushions, but still very comfy. Plenty of TVs within view. Place even has an outdoor patio which was packed. read more

First time @ CJ's. Impromptu stop after Yelp search while in the area for business meeting. Great beer, food, atmosphere, and service. Had fajitas and burrito special, both were excellent. The boys got the fish and chips and chicken tenders meals. My daughter and I ordered Michigan Chicken salad chicken on the side, and a blackened salmon salad. Everything was prepared as requested. Salads are big and fresh. We have never been disappointed by CJ's. Happy hour there rocks! We had a cool waiter who came by our table and said that Happy Hour was ending in 5 min and did we want another drink. Heck yes we do, and he pre assumed and handed us drinks. Awesome pizza and beer! The Michigan Cherry salad was huge, so my husband and I split it. However, they charge $1.50 to split, which seems odd because it does not come in a dinner size portion. Also, we asked for extra sauce on the pizza and it seemed like they put less sauce on. The "extra sauce" was $0.50 extra. Overall the pizza was great, but they will nickel and dime you, where most places do not. Must be the economy... For the beer, I really liked the Scotch Ale, Wheat and IPA. I was really depressed until I came here. Shit blew my mind. We tried both their seasonal and standard beer flights and I couldn't decide which I liked the most. Perfect local bar with amazing amazing food. Did I say amazing? Because it most certainly is. Whether I'm eating in or getting takeout I'm always pleased. The Cap'n Crunch chicken is my absolute favorite and I highly recommend it to every living human being possible, even vegetarians because that dish is worth eating no matter what Only on rare occasions have I had poor service, the majority of the time service is excellent in the dining room. The waitresses are very personable, they go out of their way to talk to my kids, and seem to get things right all the time. This is a local gem! The first time I tried this place over 2 years ago I left a little underwhelmed. The beer I ordered wasn't the greatest, the pizza was nothing to rave about and the service was okay. Fortunately, my second visit was unexpectedly fantastic. The only reason I gave in and tried CJ's again was due to the outdoor seating that had to be taken advantage of on a warm July afternoon. The patio is completely covered and sits adjacent to the golf course offering a nice breeze and tranquil view. The bar is pretty impressive and the HD TV's are an added perk. I was craving an amber brew but the Rich-Hagg Red was out. Darn. I begrudgingly ordered the waitresses recommendation and was more than happy with the Summerbrew seasonal. Definitely will order again. It paired well with my buffalo boneless wings. Another good dish. The Caesar salad wasn't bad, refreshing to say the least. Of course, the best meal was my boyfriend's fish & chips entrée. Wowsers! Perfectly fried, nice crunch and beautifully cooked goodness on the inside. The fries were equally light and tasty. I couldn't stop picking at his plate, much to his dismay. Can't go wrong if you order any of the above. Great portions, fresh tasting and lots of flavor. The staff is also friendly and helpful. We moved to this area in October of 2015. We've been to CJ's probably six or seven times and every time it does not disappoint. The food is not fantastic, it's not a gourmet restaurant. What it is, though, is a bar and Grill type restaurant with good solidly consistent food, good drinks, and craft beer at a reasonable price. The staff are always courteous, and friendly, and efficient. As a sidenote, I must say that I think their pizza is second to none. Their square pizza rivals Buddy's, or Shields, or any of that ilk. I'd been here several times for happy hour with co-workers, but hadn't ventured much past chips and salsa and a few summer brews until last night. We headed out for dinner- my husband, our toddler, and my dad- at about 6pm on a Friday. I would like to say this place is underrated, but every time I've been there it's been absolutely packed. They told us the wait would be about 25 minutes, but we were seated in under 10. Our waitress was very friendly, prompt, attentive but not pushy...just the way any restaurant staff should be. We started with drinks- an American Wheat for my dad and me and a Winter Brew for my husband- and an order of pub nachos. These things were HUGE but super tasty and we plowed through them just in time to receive our orders. My husband and dad both got the all you can eat fish and chips (the regular Friday night special) and I went with a wrap. The food was quick, yummy, and very filling. The fish looked great. Definitely much more fish than breading, which is very often not the case. We had 2 empty growlers to get refilled, which ended up being around $11 a piece. If you have them filled on Tuesday, it's half price, meaning you get about 4-5 drinks for the price of one. You can't beat that with a stick! Highly recommend for beer, food, atmosphere, kids (it's loud, so they can be as loud as they want) and take home beverages. read more

Great beer, great food, great atmosphere and good service. Its a casual place where you can relax with freshly brewed beer and food that compliments the drink. The service is good as well. I usually get the golden lager, which has a distinct wheat flavour and not very hoppy just how I like it. My husnabd loves the IPA, which is deliciously hoppy. Fridays is all-you-can-eat fish and chips and on weekends the appetizers are half off. I tried the fish tacos, chicken wings, the grilled slamon on various visits and it was always great. Killer pizza! Seriously now, I take my pizza very seriously. The deep dish pizza at CJ's is a definate local favorite. I am not sure how they got it so good considering they got almost the entire rest of the menu wrong. With the exception of good burgers I would say the food is no good at all. The beer should be better. It is a brewery. I am not saying it is not good, I am saying that it is not as good as it could be. The service is good and the atmosphere is good also. CJ's is nothing fancy or upscale but the draw is the beer which is brewed on location and is the freshest even compared to what I can make myself. Join the Mug Club and the glasses get bigger. The food is great except I don't care for the burgers(something with the seasoning) but the rest of the food is fine and generous portions. I recommend trying it out for a family dinner or belly up to the bar for a mug. read more

I previously wrote a scathing review of CJ's, and it was well deserved at the time. Three years later I finally gave this place a second chance, and I'm glad I did. We went here this past Friday with some friends after work for dinner. Unlike my last experience the food was delicious and the beer was good. I again tried the beer sampler, and this time did not find a single one that I disliked. We'll definitely be back, though maybe when its a little slower. My only dislike this time was the smell of the place. You enter through the bar area which smells of spilled and spoiled beer. Plus it was a Friday during Lent, so the smell of fried fish mixed with stale beer reminded me of sweaty feet. We waited outside for 30 minutes for a table because I couldn't stand the smell. read more
