For as many times that I have reviewed Diamond Jim Brady's, it is super clear that I really enjoy this restaurant and they have fabulous food. They are run by a great owner and the people here are warm, friendly, inviting, and they make you feel right at home. Today, I am highlighting probably the best onion rings I have ever had. I love, onion rings, and I even like onion rings that aren't the greatest. When you get the greatest onion rings, it is absolutely stupendous, and it made me extremely happy. The onion rings were fried to perfection with the greatest crisp and the best flavor and the perfect structure. I also have to remind people don't sleep on the famous DJ B burgers. Absolutely delicious and perfect. Y'all know, I also love the fish and chips and I had to get those last night as well. What a fantastic meal! You know, I will be back soon! read more

The food service and ambiance make this place a must see. Not what I expected for the location (near the mall) but it exceeded my expectations. Let me start with this place was a nice surprise. It's much bigger inside, than it appears from outside. Our server Katherin was probably one of the best we've had since moving back to Michigan! While she assured me she had only been there about 2 weeks, this great lady knew her menu inside out and upside down, and had some great suggestions. Her attention to service was excellent, and her attitude even better! Also Rayah (working nearby) was very sweet and made it a point to say hello, and made us feel welcomed also. The little "fireplaces" they had strategically located around were a nice touch to the ambiance as well as the dim table lamps. This would be a great place for a date. The food was excellent, the drinks were average priced and you can tell the ownership is deeply involved in wanting quality for their customers. This is a come as you are place, but also a bit higher scale than just a bar and grill. Great for a date, a couple of friends that haven't talked in a while, family and group friendly. Just had a birthday dinner here tonite. We had a reservation for six and were promptly seated on the outdoor patio. The temperature was great and we were greeted by our waitress. We ordered and my wife was told they were out of scallops so she ordered the chicken stuffed with Boursin cheese which was delicious. I had the steak and lobster tail special which I enjoyed . My son ordered their beef on weck and loved it. Others ordered fish and a turkey burger. We finished with a cream puff with ice cream and fudge. I did order their onion soup which was creamy and good but not what I expected. All and all it was a very nice experience for our first time there. We will be back. read more

I haven't had anything bad there. When they get busy, things can get a little.Hectic and slow. I tend to have the burgers a lot. And steak items, which are always good. Their fries are flawlessly delicious. A local restaurant then that hasn't common gone but has been here for years. That says something about a restaurant these days. read more

Friendly, skilled and savvy about all things DJB. Price point at lunch is reasonable, imo. I had the Chicken Tzatziki salad bowl. It was fresh and delicious, and so large that I needed a carry-out box. I also tried the beautifully plated (or bowled) steamy, thick Tomato Basil Soup with Balsamic Oil drizzle. It was to-die-for! Been here a long time ago and wanted to check it out again. Very surprised it was crowded on a Weds night. Very loud ambiance. Service was bad. Waitress rarely checks on you. People who come here have low standards. I got the fish and chip. Fries were OK but the fish was over battered and greasy. Wife had salmon and she liked it. Tables are really close together. I didn't expect to spend 2 hours eating an uncooked burger and fish tacos. Were told our food was delayed because of a party. Our food was served at 8:30 after being there over 1&1/2 hours. The area we were sitting at was practically empty. When we finally got our dinner the waitress decided to get ahead with cleaning and started sweeping the floors around us. Being new to the area, I was looking for a unique place to have a quick bite for lunch. Diamond Jim Brady's is such a cool spot! I sat at the bar ordered a glass of wine and had a fun time speaking with the bartender. I ended up ordering the lamb meatballs and they were absolutely delicious. Had a very nice meal eating outside (sort of) while temps were below freezing. I had no idea they had outside seating in the winter but they do. I mean you aren't completely outside and it's totally shielded with weatherproof material and heaters. But you can see the outside of the building. It's temp controlled and unique. Pros Ambiance: gives European cafe vibes Drink selection: nice to see Michigan wines listed. Had a knockout Riesling from Shade Lane Cellars. Would like to see more Michigan libations offered! Food: Quality, taste, variety. Even the house salad, that has a delectable vinaigrette and pine nuts, was much above average. I get a kick out of their descriptors; radish & pea rumble, pistachio dust. The food feels more elevated than the location. Cons Service: from the host to the waitress, they all made my party feel like they didn't want us there. Were they short staffed? All stuck up? Not sure, but it felt unwelcoming and off brand. Gluten Free: The GF options are not available online, and the waitress seemed uncertain about which dishes were. Would be best of they listed this on their menus, if they change often/seasonally. The Coulotte Steak was surprisingly between room temperature and lukewarm. It may have been left in the kitchen while the other dishes were read, but it was the last dish to be served at the table. I enjoyed the flavor but wished the temperature was warmer. I generally prefer brownies over blondies. The Chocolate Chip Pretzel Blondie has surprisingly plenty of chocolate for a blondie. When I took a bite, I could taste the blondie even though it was wrapped in fudge and provided a pleasant contrast. In addition to the hot fudge, there is the chocolate gelato in case the fudge fails to provide sufficient taste of chocolate. Sadly, the waitress decided to blame a particular colleague for a slowness in service. A couple times, she acknowledged that dessert was still being made. The second time, she decided to blame an unnamed employee who was in charge of making the salad and the desserts. She said it was her first day on the job. In my experience at other restaurants, the waitstaff would mention the "kitchen" was backed up but never point blame to an individual employee. When she forgot to bring one of the beverages, I am surprised she did not blame this same colleague. read more

Did not have list of GF options for sides. Took a guess but never sure what other things are added to a dish you may not be aware of. Had a number of appetizers - Garlic Shrimp, Smoked Whitefish Dip, Calamari and more - all appetizers were on point. For my entree, I had the KFC - Korean Fried Chicken sandwich w/ cole slaw and sweet Asian chili sauce - this blew me away, as it tasted so, so good. Full bar as well, so drink up! DJB's has 69 years of experience and seldom disappoints. Dining companions ordered coulotte steak well done w/crispy au gratin potatoes. The kitchen complied. Tasty and thankfully, not over-salted. Salmon rumble was a generous portion of salmon, just a tad over-cooked and beginning to approach dry. The rumble is cashews, squash, potato and Brussels sprouts. Looking forward to "patio" weather! I was looking for something a bit different. I found it. The ambience is cozy, intimate, quiet and classy. I was seated on their covered outdoor patio which was well insulated and didn't feel like you were sitting on a covered patio. Nicely done! The service was wonderful and she was very honest. Apparently my order was just put in behind a very large table. But she made me aware of the reason my order was taking a bit longer. Once I got it, it didn't last long. Very tasty and well put together. The flavor was perfect for the salmon. It would've been tastier if the veggies in the topping weren't cooked down as much. But that's my personal preference. The Mac and Cheese that we shared as a side dish was so good. The Bread Pudding for dessert was amazing, as was my Chocolate Martini that Gina had suggested. The last time I was here was 15+ years ago. I still recognize some of the menu items. I used to order the burrito but gave the fish and chips a try. We also ordered the calamari, house salad, Caesar salad, and halibut piccata. Our waitress asked if we wanted bread and I'm so glad we did. They were warm and garlicky but very oily. She also asked if we wanted anchovies on the Caesar. The salads were good. Decent portions. The calamari was good but nothing too exciting. The fish and chips - the fish was very greasy. My entire plate was covered in oil. The top side was crunchy but the underside wasn't as it was sitting in a pool of oil. The bottom layer of fries was soaked in oil too. What a shame. I recognize my meal was all deep fried but a pool of oil shouldn't be on my plate. The fries were overcooked and on the dry side. The portion was generous. The halibut had good flavor. When we got our bill, we were charged $1 for the anchovies! Not a big deal but it would have been nice to have known that ahead of time. Tons of parking. read more

We sat in a covered patio area that was very comfortable. Started with a Blushing Lady cocktail with pomegranate liquor grapefruit juice and vodka. The rim of the glass was sugar coated!! Omgoodness. I went to Diamond Jim's tonight because it had high ratings and I was not disappointed. The bartender was terrific. The owner came out and greeted me. I had the Big Pot of mussels with Chorizo and spicy tomato broth. It was on the "Starter" menu. I told the bartender that I would start with the mussels and she advised to wait to order anything else that it was quite a portion. She was right. Mussels and Chorizo with chunky tomatoes and spices in a broth that was heaven. They had these bread rolls that had garlic and spices and butter, and I literally ate every mussel, piece of chorizo, and every drop of broth and 3 rolls. I opted to have a bowl of their onion soup and paired it with a flatbread. The soup was delicious and there was plenty of it. The flatbread was a little soft for my liking. However I could tell it had been prepared with fresh ingredients and it looked very attractive when it was brought out. my wife indicated that her steak sandwich was delicious, and my son's hamburger appeared to have been very well-made.
