This is a staple for me and my coworkers for both breakfast and lunch. They have a pretty solid menu, it is a mix of classic American, soul food, and Mexican. We usually stick to the Mexican breakfast, for no other reason than it is our favorite. The chilaquiles have red sauce, they are a little spicy depending on your tastes. (Hint: tell them to hold the onions or you will have hot fire breath). Huevos a la mexicana are also really tasty, we like to add on jack cheese. They have fresh squeezed juice and smoothies at a reasonable price. My personal favorite is green apple, cucumber, and pineapple. It is really refreshing and not too sweet. For lunch we generally stick to sandwiches. The tuna is really good. Turkey club seems to be really popular in our group as well. The quality of the food is very consistent at CJ's and the staff is very kind and attentive. Great spot if you are looking for simple, good food. read more

It was my first time here but I've been dying to try this place for the longest. & I'm glad I did! I had the grilled red snapper and eggs which was honestly the best dish of my visit. We had the chicken sausage which was not so great, actually more of a disappointment and the cornbeef hash which was average. But I would definitely come back for that red snapper! Came to this restaurant today 5/15 . I walked inside to ask if my nieces can use the restaurant, the Manager in the front said , the restroom is clean don't go in and mess it up. Automatically rude. I'am an adult I would not let my kids distort a restroom..... Once we came out of the restroom leaving the restaurant , as we walked past that same manager he immediately said you need to say thank you. Before I was able to say it. Let me start off by saying this.. When I fly in from Atlanta I like to make sure this is my first stop. This last time would only make my 2nd visit however I enjoyed my food both times. The breakfast burrito is huge so I decided I would take the rest to my hotel and eat it later. A couple of hours ago I decided to warm my food and as soon as I opened the microwave I noticed movement in my burrito. When I looked closely I noticed maggots crawling out of turkey sausage that's in the burrito. Clearly they reacted to the heat and decided to make an appearance. My visit to L.A. is completely ruined and this is only day 1. That moment keeps playing in my mind and I literally feel sick. What a great neighborhood spot! The vibe is low key and the food is great. I don't like writing reviews because if the place is good, people will come and there will be a wait. CJs is reasonably priced, the people are friendly and the food is great. They have traditional American food, I go for breakfast usually. There is traditional breakfast, southern breakfast with wings, Mexican breakfast with chorizo or chilequiles (spelling!?!). They also have Turkey of chicken sausage for those who want those options. I have tried it all and it is all delicious!!! I love it because it is close and not in a hot spot neighborhood where everyone wants to go. Hey Yelper's, so about 3 days ago I woke up with a crazy taste for some Grits and Eggs and I could only think of two places Rosco's and CJ's on La Brea next to T-Maybe excuse me T-Mobile. Take a guess which place I chose? You guessed it CJ's, they have a location on Pico however, since I'm close too the spot I I've been here before I knew what I would be getting would be good. As you can see in my before photo Grits and Eggs with grilled chicken breast, I could have ordered fried wings and truth be told I prefer CJ's over over priced Rosco's plus the the wings are BIGGER HERE, thats for another review. Back too my review, see the after yea it was all good needed something different then just chicken soup and they have that here also. Parking is OK more on the back side of the strip mall but trust CJ's more then worth it, plus it won't break your bank. read more

We just moved to the neighbourhood this week and are very fortunate to find this place so soon. I'm so happy we weren't detered by the 3 1/2 star yelp rating. This place deserves much more and here's why... The freshly squeezed juices are very good and at $4.50 they are excellent value! The French toast is very good. Chilaquiles are on point. The breakfast burrito is big and beautiful. You know its going to be good when it arrives to the table alone on a big white plate (no garnishes). They don't mess around. It was so well crafted, it was still smoking hot after being on the table for 10 minutes! The place was packed when we arrived and now we know why. I had their breakfast burrito with sausage and it was meh. The potatoes in the burrito lacked flavor and I could barely taste the sausage. Pull up to the Baldwin Hills shopping center/strip mall and pass by the Payless, Rainbow, Check into Cash, and across from Metro PCS to find it. Shove your car into one of the tiny parking spots and lets do this. I have eaten here several times since it has a large menu, lets me eat breakfast anytime, and has some vegetarian options for one of my friends. Yesterday I walked in with my blond friend and everyone stared. She is use to it, I am not so much. It really didnt matter as everyone was very polite and the people at the table next to us even made conversation. So while she was stared at, it wasnt in a rude way, more just curious. The menu is a variety of typical diner food, Mexican and Southern. I love the combination. On each table is a bottle of Tapatio, Tabasco, and Louisiana hot sauce. They know their audience. I usually order the huevos con chorizo which comes with rice, beans, and tortillas. My friend had eggs, sausage links (which looked like patties cut into links) and the grits. Being a southern girl she was very happy with the grits. I like that for the coffee they offer regular cream and also international delights because I am disgusting and love my coffee to taste like vanilla. I ordered the turkey bacon + eggs that comes with grits, rice, home fries or fruit AND toast (white/wheat/sourdough don't quote me on the sourdough she could've also said rye) a biscuit or an English muffin. When I tell you I smashed that meal I mean it. I also ordered an amazing medium fresh squeezed orange juice that was thick & super pulpy like I love it! Now, all of this sounds normal right? Wrong because you'll never guess the price. They gave me 4 or 5 pieces of turkey bacon, a good helping of delicious grits, two slices of wheat toast and I chose my eggs scrambled all for $11.34. That's legit unheard of in LA. I live down the street from Overland Cafe, but I will gladly get in my car and drive to CJs from now on. This is for the waffles l ask the waitress in her opinion what's better the waffles or pancakes l wanted the waffles she suggested the waffles! I don't know why they sell waffles that for sure is not a waffles mix maybe it's their version mix of a muffins & pancakes house blend. I'm from Philadelphia and I have been in search of a place that made food the way we make it at home. My favorite thing to eat for breakfast is fish and grits. Today I order from CJ Cafe by way of doordash delivery service. I order the fried cat fish, eggs and home fries. I also ordered a side of French toast. Everything was amazing!!! The fish was so meaty, flavorful and fried to perfection. It was seasoned so well. I honestly didn't need to add anything to it or the home fries. My order came on time and my food was still hot. The resturant included everything I would need. Even butter for the French toast. I was very impressed and I will most certainly be ordering again. read more
