CJ's Cafe The first time I visited your establishment, I was unhappy with the cleanliness of the table condiment bottles. I was in the area and decided to visit a second time. Both times, the food and service were exceptional but, the second visit was even more pleasurable. The management team had taken heed to my first review and corrected the problem. Each condiment bottle on the table was clean. NO stickiness to the touch, nor any dried residue under the top. Much appreciated, I will be back. THANK YOU!! read more

This review is for take-out if their fresh juices ONLY: I've lived in the neighborhood for almost 15 years and I only recently started frequenting this establishment. Parking is incredibly easy, there's a backlot behind the restaurant and over the two years I've been coming here, it's always been a breeze to snag a spot. The employees are always very kind and polite. I've only ever had their juices and I'm always so impressed with them. They're freshly made and they always give me a cup of ice on the side to maximize the amount of juice I get. It's reasonably priced as well at about $5-6. That's the same amount Starbucks is but a WAY healthy option for a morning boost. There isn't anything around this area that I know of that offers fresh quality juices and smoothies. I don't know why I haven't come in for a meal but I plan on doing that soon. But if you're looking for some healthy drinks, I can't recommend them enough. read more

Today I find myself out in the Baldwin hills area of Los Angeles for business and found this place cause I was a little bit early. So this place is your typical corner mom and pop cafe not a lot invested in to the decor or fancy ware, but I am sure glad they invested in the quality and taste of their menu. When they advertise from the south to south of the border they're not lying, the orders were huevos a la Mexicana ( I'm a sucker for anything with jalapeños ) , chicken wings and waffles but I was looking hard at the ox tails and eggs and the red snapper and eggs maybe next time when I find myself out here again, the staff are efficient, friendly and serviceable fast with the hot coffee and turning table for a fast turn around hardly any waiting time the prices are very reasonable for these times but unless you're a local or passing through you don't need to travel 30 + miles. Enjoyed the meal, the company so I left a very good tip if I ever find myself out here again I will be here. Took one star not because of the food ( that's a 5 star ) but because of decor and this place is not near me read more

CJs was meh! Its clean and we were seated quickly at a booth and handed an extensive menu listed with soul food classics like Chicken & Waffles, grits and biscuits fresh baked also on the menu are items like Carne Asada and tortas. My hubby ordered the red snapper with eggs and the fish was not fresh!! The eggs were ordered over-easy but were undercooked and watery. Actually nothing we ordered seemed fresh sorry to say. The chicken sausage patties were good but a little on salty side. I was hoping this place would be off the hook. I might try it again. And another thing was that the plates we got didn't seem to match the price, $9 to $11 plates should be packed, but came up short on being enough to satisfy. I guess I'd rather see more of my food and less of the plate its served on. They have a large menu so my next visit Should be better hopefully. ** They do offer healthy options like freshly squeezed juices. read more

Personally I don't like to leave bad reviews but this place is beyond my belief , order breakfast for me and hubby opened the tray and the stench from cooking on a dirty grill was sickening . Bacon and sausage were over cooked with burnt particles from the grill , eggs one sunny side up other one over easy full of oil again from the nasty grill . Home fries no taste no peppers or onions again taste like dirty grill the grits were undercooked side of links tasted old both of these breakfasts went to trash . Tried eat but when you have food on your fork and the smell of it hits first you can't eat it just disgusting. I hope the manager take note of this perhaps check there cooks because they surely cannot be called "chef's ". read more

I ordered food to go, a vegetarian burrito wet. It was so damn salty! I tried to eat as much as I could because I was super hungry at the time, but I could not finish that thing. Im sure my blood pressure was through the roof. I was not happy to waste my money like that. If the vegetarian option wasn't satisfactory I'm not even going back to try the other options. read more

The chicken wings are huge. The cornbread isn't good. The greens are ok. But maybe someone else's tastebuds will like. Yams are good..no cinnamon but good. I've been here for breakfast and it is good. The place isn't bad. I would go back and try a different meal. The chicken wings are humongous. read more

Their food is seriously delicious. Cooked perfectly and I ate all of it (and I never finish my food). Their freshly squeezed orange juice and other juices are so refreshing. The service is quick and efficient and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We came with a large group (nine people) and were served quickly. I love the food here, seasoned very well & portioned enough so that you can have a little for left overs if you don't have a big appetite. I haven't had the breakfast yet. I have only ordered from the Soul Food Entrees Menu, & again most of those are delicious. I & family members wehave tried the short ribs, grilled chicken breast, pork chops, cat fish with sides like Blk eye peas, candied yams, broccoli, cauliflower, corn, wht rice, collar greens, mashed potatoes etc. I have only ordered by way of doordash have never been to location. I've lived in this area for years and just checked this place out the other day. Don't know what took me so long. It's great! My bf had the Denver omelette and they make it crepe-style, very thin. I never order omelettes because they are often thick and spongy. Not here. And they grilled the ham first, great touch. I had the hash and eggs and my dish was exactly what I wanted. The hash browns are grilled to crispness (with onions and peppers if you like). The servers are all quick, cheerful, and make sure your coffee cup is full and that you want for nothing. I'm so impressed with this place and will go back for every breakfast that I don't make at home. read more

I been coming here consistently on and off to try breakfast and it's all been pretty good. Prices are not listed on the website....today I ordered a small orange juice and a breakfast huevos rancheros and it came out to $17. FOR WHAT????? This mediocre breakfast? I'm disappointed in myself for paying such a hefty price for this crap! I seriously feel ripped off and need to kick myself for paying that much for mediocre food! I was en route to work and in a hurry... should have went by Burger King for a 2 for $4 croissanwhich!! Don't think this will be a pit stop again! read more

A great spot for breakfast. a wide selection of American favorites and soul food. I always order a fresh veggie juice beets, carrots, and celery everything cooked to order which is especially important for the chicken wings. I hate re-cooked fried chicken. I was disappointed. Took my Mom Saturday morning (1-27-21) and the customer service was horrible. When we finally received our food it was cold and when my Mom communicated to the "manager" ( heavy set middle aged Latino) he shrugged his shoulders and said "we're busy" and turned his back. It was very sad to watch someone disregard my Moms comments in front of customers and staff. Not to mention the sign on the front door for everyone to see has "personal" instead of "personnel" which might further explain the unprofessional behavior at this place! Never Returning! read more

Perfect place for a warm breakfast or meal. Incredible staff, they always make me smile and feel very welcome. I came alone the other day, pretty down after a breakup, and my waitress cheered me right up! She was very comforting and service was fast! I was so glad to be able to get something gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian! Now that I have this restrictive diet, it is harder to find tasty treats but I am committed to good eats and so is CJ's!! read more

I've been to CJ's numerous times over the years, but this last visit was horrible. I ordered online for pickup. The female cashier helping me just left her post and never returned. The male cashier that took her place never acknowledged me. He brought up two orders from the counter and set them down. He started helping other people - not once asking my name to see if perhaps that was my order. I was waiting on the bench along with another guy. The cashier told the waiter to ask the guy about his order. Totally ignoring the fact that I've now been sitting there for at least 15 minutes. Finally, after I ask how much longer will I have to wait, the waiter picks up the order that HAS BEEN SITTING NEXT TO THE REGISTER and realizes it's mine. I'm hard-pressed to return because there's no excuse for me not to have been helped sooner. read more

Drove by the other location of CJ's a million times, but never stopped in. Today, driving back from the airport and dealing with hideous traffic, CJ and I (no relation) decided to pop in and check it out, if only to let traffic thin out a bit and forward progress toward the apartment to resume in such a manner than arthritic nonogenarians with walkers weren't passing me on the sidewalk. In a nutshell: It's a basic diner with some Mexican items. Cheap, fast, decent food but nothing to write home about. The Chilequiles Con Huevos hit the spot but I wouldn't make a special trip. It fills you up, gets you on the road, and off you go. That's that. read more

I love the food here! Sometimes the chicken sausage can be dry and sometimes the food can be a bit greasy. Other than that I love the food and the service, excellent customer service even when they're busy! I don't like the fact we all use the same pen to sign out receipts tho, especially during covid but they do have sanitizer in the table for us to use before and after touching the pen. read more

My favorites are the chilaquiles, the breakfast burrito, and the oh-so-delicioso French toast! The servers have all been here many years and are very attentive and friendly. Service is fast and they have plain good food. I like this location over the one on Pico because it's spacious and I always see friends here. If you love southern style breakfast, my kids love the grits - fluffy and creamy, the fried chicken wings, and the sausage. They also offer fresh squeezed and blended juices and have for years - long before "juicing" was in vogue. My favorites are the "hood specials" - the Sunrise (lemonade and fresh squeezed oj) and the Sunset (lemonade and fruit punch)! So much sugar, but so wonderfully tasty. Regardless of what you choose, you'll never go wrong here. read more

Our server checked in throughout the evening without hovering, which gave us plenty of time to eat, talk, and inevitably compare everyone's drink choices. By the end of dinner, I had already figured out my strategy for round two: Uber there, explore a little more of the cocktail menu, and see if we can snag one of those coveted tables near the tree. Love this place. They have good American diner style food, Mexican, and some soul. I personally get the Denver omelette every time, and you should too. Or the egg sandwich. Or the club sandwich. The staff are very friendly, and their prices are reasonable, especially for the portions and the quality. The atmosphere is bright, clean, well kept, and cheerful. I love walking in there in the morning to the smell of coffee and hash browns. They've got a good kids menu. I've never taken anyone there who didn't enjoy it and want to go back. I was there on 3/2/22 @ 930am. I walked in while waiting to be seated. The spanush speaking lady asked for my vaccination card extrealy rude then she asked for my I.D. the spanish people in front /behind me she didn't ask them for anything. While sitting the big tall spanish guy at the front counter came to my table while i was waiting on friends as we come often. He told us he refuse to us because i asked why didn't she ask the spanish people in front and behind me for their vaccination & ID cards? He refuse to answer. This is a nice, friendly neighborhood café with good food. I liked the grilled cheese which we had with potato salad. I have been here mostly for breakfast and they are fast! The omelets are the best. I like the "healthy" one a lot. The French toast is nice, too. I come with lots of friends sometimes and sometimes by myself but it is all good! Her size does not determine whether she is a legitimate service animal, and a service dog is not required by federal law to wear a vest, ID, or any other identifying equipment. What also stands out to me is that you clearly remember who we were and the specific details of our interaction. That tells me you knew exactly what happened, yet instead of addressing the situation professionally, you chose to mock us publicly and question the legitimacy of my service dog. We actually like supporting small businesses, which is why situations like this are disappointing. But I can also understand why more people choose businesses that are willing to adapt, educate themselves, and provide professional customer service rather than simply saying, "We've been doing it this way for 14 years." As I originally suggested, you should update your Yelp information and consider posting your no-pet policy clearly so customers know what to expect before arriving. More importantly, I would strongly suggest educating yourself and your staff on the difference between pets and service animals and how these situations should be handled. And yes, I gave you one star without trying the food because we were refused service before we ever had the opportunity to eat there. A customer's experience with a business is not limited to the food. We found another restaurant that welcomed us and handled the situation appropriately, so we were able to enjoy our morning elsewhere. At the end of the day, that's our choice as customers. Nasha came to the phone and patiently listened to everything I had to say and then graciously offered to remake the ribs without the sauce. The ribs without sauce is what I expected, crispy fried ribs with moist meat inside. She also included Mac and Cheese Lobster Balls. The ribs, Mac and Cheese Lobster Balls, and Chicken Wings are delicious. The Macaroni Salad is pretty good too. Not only did Nasha remake the ribs and give me some Mac and Cheese Lobster Balls to try, she personally delivered them to me. Now, how's that for excellent client service.
