I really enjoyed my latte. It was lavender flavored. I also really enjoyed the patio since my husband and I were traveling with our dog. However, the breakfast sandwich could have been better. The croissant was extremely cold. It was weird eating hot eggs and sausage in between a cold croissant. Ordered a salad, drink and a piece of pie at 10:55. They said they would contact me when ready. At 12:30 I texted them ,I was coming anyway. When I got there, I was told they didn't have my order. I said forget it and began to pull away. The Lady told me to come back. She said she found my order. She brought out a salad. I asked about my other items, she went in and brought me a drink. I asked about the pie, she told me they didn't serve pie. At this point I just said fine and drove away. I checked their menu and sure enough there's pie. So I ended up paying over$20.00 for a salad and drink. Needless to say, that's the last time I'll order from there. read more

We bought a truck in Sherman, and while waiting for the salesman to get it ready for us we drove to Denison to CJ's--we found CJ's on Yelp, and I am so happy we did!!! I ordered a peanut butter mocha blast at the recommendation of the barista, and Chris had a vanilla latte~ both were very good. We shared a slice of strawberry cake, and as far as cakes go this one was melt-in-your-mouth sweet, sugary goodness! Will definitely stop in the next time we are in Denison. *The staff here are very friendly and very patient. Ask them for a drink recommendation--you won't be disappointed! read more

I will admit that when I found myself with some extra time in Denison, I wasn't too hopeful about the coffee shop I would find there. So imagine my super pleasant surprise when as I was walking in I saw a sign "we now have coffee on nitro!" The shop itself has a super casual and cute front porch area, and the decor inside is just like your favorite indie coffee shop at home. The employees were friendly and even held my coffee at the bar while I used their restroom (which is around the side of the building outside). Pretentious small minded people. I feel sorry for the locals, they don't know any better. This "coffee" is by far the worst in North Texas. I would personally pay anyone to go to a nearby Starbucks instead and Starbucks is a HUGE sin for me. The employees are nasty and rude and can hardly handle a simple black coffee. I love sitting on the patio at CJ's and enjoying the sun, coffee and lunch. Their veggie sandwich is one of my favorites. The veggies are always fresh and the bread nice and soft. On Wednesday they have really amazing Chicken and Dumplings. They make the best Breve I have ever had. In a perfect world I would love to see a sugar free or lower sugar option for their baked oatmeal (which is so good but has too much sugar in it), more vegetarian and vegan lunch options and more of a soup variety (the Tuscan Vegetable and Chicken Queso is ALWAYS on the Friday menu and it isn't great). On Fridays they have something prepared on the wok outside. Sometimes it is fish, brisket or pork tacos and sometimes it is Philly cheese-steak sandwiches. These items are always yummy. read more

My wife and I really like this place! Their Espresso drinks both hot and cold are amazing. Love their banana and strawberry smoothies. Their food is so good and best is their service and friendliness! I always go for the "buy local" and stay far away from those folks from Seattle who have little in common with middle America and ship their money out of state. CJ's is family owned. We've been to both locations and I particularly like the Denison location with the covered patio and it is part of downtown Denison. YUM! read more

Presently, I have only TWO absolute favorite coffee shops here in north central Texas. One of them is in downtown Wylie and the other one is in downtown Denison. I refuse to step foot in those chain store hack coffee shops that begin with the letter "S". Rather, I search out those wonderful "mom and pop" coffee shops that are much more inviting with much, much better products...and besides, I believe in supporting the locally owned independent stores as much as possible. CJ's, which used to be "Country Java" is in downtown Denison a few doors down from the historical Rialto Theater. When the weather is good, you can sit outside underneath the covered patio and watch life go by on Main Street, or go inside and sit in the fun and comfortable atmosphere. They have a drive-up "to go" window. If you have to use the restroom, it's outside just past the drive-up window. The restroom is kept very clean. They have an excellent choice of coffees, teas, smoothies, and my favorite: Hot chocolate. You can order from their impressive menu of food that's listed on the chalk board on the wall behind the counter. Their salads, soups and sandwiches are fresh made and very tasty. Their desserts are very good, too. The staff is very friendly and sincerely glad to see you. I absolutely love this place and go there every chance I get. Just wished they'd stay open later in the evenings. read more

Visiting from out-of-town and needed a wifi connection, so I went to this place instead of driving to Panera as it is closer to where I'm staying. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely come back. The wifi connection was good, plenty of outlets to plug into and my iced coffee was tasty and not overpriced. While it is not a big place, there is ample seating indoor and out. It seems like the kind of coffee shop you would see in Austin or another major city but situated on Main Street in Downtown Denison. Cute hole in the wall coffee house. Stopped while out of town on work so I just went through the drive through only. Lovely choices on menu. They were incorporating lavender themed items from the local lavender farm which I appreciated. I got coffee, croissant breakfast sandwich with salsa. Food hit the spot. And yes.... I caved for a fresh homemade cinnamon roll. It was freaking delicious! Pure perfection. If you need to truly understand what a warm cinnamon roll is supposed to taste like from Texas, this is your place. I would stop there again anytime I am passing through. read more
