This is really a hole in the wall aquarium spot. Very unassuming and really feels like a locals place. Parking is street only. There is a drive way but I don't think its for customers as it is mostly filled with equipment and pond stuff. It might be hard to find as it's not clear that the entrance is through the back. I saw the owner (I think) and he was a nice elderly gentleman. They have quite a selection of large fish and Koi. Really a place more for ponds. I don't have a pond but it was nice to visit. We were in the area and decided to check this small mom and pop aquarium out. The lady was super sweet and helpful. Her English is limited, but she speaks mandarin and canto also. The tanks and store were clean when I came. It is a small store, so some walkways were a bit tight. They had tons of different sizes/types of goldfishes and kois! They have a small koi pond at the front and a Large koi pond with a bridge that they built themselves! How cool is that!! I saw some really cool fish that I haven't seen at typical petstores here. They also sell some decor and secondhand fish tanks too! Closer to 4.5, but rounded up, since lady was so helpful! read more

I really wanted to love this place because of the nice selection of goldies available and the kindness of the owners. However, 5/6 fish purchased from this spot were ill and died within hours to days of purchase. Good thing I quarantined my pearlscales before integrating them into my main tank because two had bacterial infections, and one had fish lice. None of them survived. The tanks outside are unkempt, with lots of dead fish visibly floating around. I bought 2 high-fin sharks from here and neither of them lasted more than 24/hours of purchase. The one fish that survived was a sturdy ranchu goldfish. Despite this, as noted above, the woman who owns the shop is beyond sweet and was willing to negotiate with us despite her written "no live fish guarantee" sign that we missed. I really want to love this spot, but I think the old couple could use some extra hands to help with maintenance and fish health. Purchase at your own risk! read more

I came here back on May 14th for the first time ever. This is probably...the most random aquarium shop I have been to. Haha. Oddly, I enjoy all the mess of multiple fish tanks strewn about and all the chaos. It's like exploring and finding treasure. The old lady is super chill and nice. Really cheerful too. And I think they might breed their own Oranda, ryukin, and pearlscales because they have A LOT of fry. And a cool giant gourami. A very small fish shop that can be hard to miss if you're not paying attention while driving down San Gabriel Blvd - it's right before the train tracks if you're coming from Las Tunas. I think my boyfriend and I were inside the shop for about ten minutes, walking around inside and outside, but there wasn't any employee around to help us. It made me feel really uncomfortable, just walking around without any guidance or anything. There are lots of tanks all placed in rows as well as on top of one another inside a very small storefront. The fish tanks have lots of brightly colored fish swimming inside, but the water didn't look too clean and looked murky at best. And when you head to the cash register, they sell all sorts of fish food supplies. And then I see a car pull up with a couple, and immediately the shopkeeper rushed out to greet them. Maybe they're close friends? Needless to say, we quickly left the shop to look for fish elsewhere. read more

This place is Koi Heaven for anyone who wants to set up an outdoor pond. They have numerous plastic ponds in the back with kois ranging from various sizes. Because these pond containers are outside the water is a bit green and the quality may be poor. They also have a range of freshwater fish inside their stores with other equipment, supplies and food. Also, they have a wide selection of Fishtanks made in China from 60-100 gallons with stand and fixtures included. They are starting their saltwater section so all they have now is Live rocks which i purchased for 4 bucks a pound which is not bad. I've been to this location many times and also bought fishes from them as well. Only 50% of the fishes I bought survived. It looks like they definitely do not quarantine their fishes which causes them to die once you bring them home. Occasionally if you're lucky a few will make it. As of now looks like luck is not on our side. I've purchased some fancy goldfishes and also cichlids from them in the past. I have to admit, the prices there is a lot cheaper then most locations but keep in mind they do not have much knowledge about their fishes otherwise they would know better to quarantine them for two weeks before selling them. read more

I bought 6 fancy goldfishes from them and only 1 lived and 5 died within a week. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong or these fishes were already sick when I brought them home. I asked the lady that was working there some questions about the fishes like if the black ranchu will eventually turn orange or they will stay black and her response was (I don't know I only sell them). Thats tell you a lot about what quality fishes they're selling. I mean considering the prices are decent but if more then 50% of the fishes dies then technically it's not really cheap isn't it? I do not believe they quarantine their fishes when they receive the shipments. I also see a lot of their fishes are not swing right and other tanks are really cloudy. read more

I came here looking for fancy goldfish. The conditions the goldfish were in were many magnitudes worse than chain pet stores like Petco. The water in the tanks were so murky, in the bigger tanks you can't see the fish at the back of the tank, and at the bottom of some tanks there were piles of debris, and rotting fish that clearly died a while ago. And many of the fish had diseases: cloudy eyes, many white spots (fungal growth?) around the head. A few were floating around with their heads down and tails up. There were very large koi there as well and some of them were clearly sick. One has pine coning of its scales and another has a large pink sore. I'm not sure why they think they'll be able to sell these sick fish. Even amateur fish owners would be able to tell they're sick. Poor fish. The lady that was there was kind of rude but that may be cultural thing. read more

This is a very old-school fish store that focuses on just a few things: koi, fancy/exotic goldfish, and supplies. The older chinese men chain-smoking, and the outdoor aquariums with copious fish of varying degrees of health would probably put off a lot of people but I found it enjoyable. It felt like the weekend fish markets in Beijing. The reason why I gave this place 4 stars is simply the variety of goldfish. I am a huge fan, and I find it extremely difficult to come across anything other than comets and red-cap orandas in the chain pet-stores. Ck had ranchu, lionhead, calico ryukin, moors, red-caps, oranda, and some strange mixes. They also had a large amount of medium to large size goldfish which are rare. Superpets is the only other place in the greater San-Gab/Pasadena area that has a good variety to offer, though their fish are admittedly in much better health. This brings me to my only issue with CK, the fish health. There were definately some healthy little guys in their many tanks, but many were in less than great health. I think someone with experience would have no problem with this, merely isolating the fish and giving them medication before integrating them into their larger tank, but the amateur would be sure to wind up with a dead fish on their hands. overall summary: interesting ambiance, good variety, poor health, recommended for experienced aquariest. read more

This is a neat little fish store that specializes mostly in goldfish and koi. They have large tubs outdoors where they stock goldfish, koi and Chinese sailfin suckers. Inside, there is a small tropical fresh and saltwater section. I picked up a couple of neon tetras and guppies. Prices are fair and the staff are sometimes helpful for the purpose of making a sale. This is not the kind of business you can just stop in to browse. The staff can be pretty high strung. read more

I really love this place! HAHA! They had exactly what I wanted. So here's the story! I've been looking for some ranchu/ lionheads in my area and there was only one store that had them. I wanted 2 other colors so I started searching for another place (because my original store only had gold and black). I found myself in the area and ended up going to CK Aquarium. They have Koi, many goldfish, arawanas(sp?), and a few other freshwater fish. They mainly had koi and goldfish though. I spotted some baby ranchu/lionheads in a big tank in front. Those were about 2 bucks a fish or 3 for 5. I ended up just getting 2 because I didn't want to over crowd my tank. I was very happy because I got to scoop the fish out myself~! I donno why but it was fun haha! I ended up getting a calico and red with black. I didn't notice the calico wasn't as healthy looking (had a tiny bump pimple thing on its back) as the red with black until it was too late. Like in the car driving home too late LOL! I swear it looked healthy in the tank XD! They are both in my tank now and both seem to be doing very well and eating along with my other ranchu. Advice for next time. Inspect inspect inspect the fish you want! I really did like the calico because it was different and the only one in the tank (I think anyway LOL), but because of the deformity I probably wouldn't have gotten it. So look for fat and healthy fish :) !! read more

Diseased fish. Buy at your own risk! I've been a fish keeper for a long time. Built many ponds, nursed many fish back to health. However, it's important to start with the importer or distributor who takes good care of their fish to give even the sick ones a fighting chance. First of all, pricing is marginally better than say, Petco, even with their issues will at least guarantee ALL fish for 30 days. If you have a quarantine tank, it's almost risk-free to buy from there. With that said, I bought what I thought were a healthy set of baby koi 4-5" large. When I got it home, one of them looked lethargic and I started to quarantine it and medicated it. And ultimately, it didn't survive after a full week. CK said they don't guarantee fish. But when I went there, it seemed that tucked away in the far end of the row was a container that had many sick fish. Some with so much growth they looked furry! Although they scattered like normal fish, clearly, they were sick. This container shared the same filtration system as the other containers near the front. It's apparent that these guys in the end were singled out and quarantined, however sharing the same water with the "healthy" fish. So beware! Eventhough the fish you catch seem healthy and free of the typical signs of illness, they've been subjected to diseased water the entire time. So chances are, you'll buy a sick fish without even knowing it and risking the rest of your pond/tank. The most you'll save at this place is like a couple bucks. Don't risk it. It's not worth it. Even if it endangers one of our other fish in your tank, you're already assed out. Selection was okay, but in the end all the fish will make you have the same fertilizer. The tanks inside don't look healthy neither. Go to someplace reputable. Of the small LFS in the area, Rosemead Aquarium seems to have a nice store. Got some albino chinese algae eaters for my kid who wanted it for HALF the price of what CK was selling them for. read more

I went in a few weeks ago to find a certain fish. I took a good look around for 15 minutes, Most of the tanks had been really cloudy and dirty. I sadly saw a silver arowana on its side getting ready to die. There were a few double tail bettas dead in those tiny little cups. After getting my fish i thought they were gonna die. I was looking for good breeds of fancy goldfish I can't seem to get anywhere else and I found this place. I called to ask them about how much their Ranchus were and the owner told me to come over here and look and hung up on me. Prior to calling, I read about the negative ratings on the customer service here and at that point, I could totally relate to the unsatisfied people on yelp.However, it was hard trying to find a place with good breeds of Ranchus and Ryukins and so I went anyway the next day. When I got there, the place barely had any parking. As far as I know, there is one empty spot and the rest of the lot is used to put their Kois. You might want to park in that plaza a block away from here since there is a railroad track taking up most space. One thing I liked about this place is its wide variety of fancy goldfishes. They're not like the deformed ones you see at most pet stores with the bent fins and all. The colors and patterns on the fish were also significantly better. The best part was, the owner gives you a set of nets and a box so that you can take your time and pick the fish you want. I feel comfortable buying at this place knowing that I'm not taking up too much of the employee's time. Also I know that I'm not rushing my selection and I have the time to pick the healthiest fish. I think all local fish shops should adopt this method. I also read something about the green water. Goldfish produce a lot of waste and so it isn't rare for algae to grow that quick- especially since the tanks are outdoors where they are getting sunlight. The sunlight makes it grow much faster. Algae is also beneficial to the fish believe it or not. It's just that people prefer no algae because they can't see the fish. When I came here, it seemed that they had cleaned the tank since the water was clear. One thing worth buying is the water dechlorinator here. its 5.99 for an 8oz bottle. You'll find other freshwater fish here like Discus and Arowanas. I'm surprised they even carried those since they specialize in goldfish and Koi. What also was surprising is that the owner is actually nice. One reason why people might find him mean is because his English is limited. Because of that, he has no choice but to use his limited vocabulary which might come off blunt and rude. This place isn't that bad. I finally got the Ranchu and Ryukins I wanted. If you're a fancy goldfish enthusiast in the SGV and want to get started, this is the place to be to pick up fish. Came here around 6pm and all the lights were off. But when the lady (maybe owner) saw us, she turned on the lights. She was kind of rude, but we just brushed it off. We bought 9 blood parrots and was told to keep the fish in the bag for 2 hours before releasing into our fish tank. Turns out she didn't tie the bag properly so a fish died by the time we reached home. And by the time we released the fish, three more had died within the hour. Not sure what they're doing to the fish here, but I would not recommend this place to anyone. It is completely unprofessional. read more

This is where i bought my Odyssea B45 tank and stand a number of years ago. The store has an oddly shaped parking lot. Just pull in and park. Be sure your brakes are working otherwise you'll be smashing into the outdoor tanks! Update: The 10 year old Odyssea aquarium still works. The silicone seals are intact, no leaks. The original powerhead keeps pumping, it's a real workhorse. The matching stand is solid, no bowing or warping. I live in earthquake area and I am very pleased with the quality and workmanship of the tank and stand. read more

O boy, where do I start? I am not one that cares for customer service too much but damn. They do not give a crap about you. I guess it is normal for a chinese, or just asian store for that matter, but they do not bat an eye when you walk in. They aren't particularly cozy when you approach them either. They act like "why are you here?". That's enough of that, now that we have gotten past the customer service, FISH HEALTHY AND QUALITY TIME. O BABY. It is really a god damn shame that they have a pretty decent goldfish supply and even pretty decent quality fancy goldfish because they are shoved in the PURGATORY that is their outside goldfish tank collection. I look into their tanks and just see the eyes of the damned. Never before have a I thought that any fish would rather be in Petsmart or Petco. They are diseased as FUCK. Goldfish that are lying around practically lifeless and fish riddled with tumors and ich. I never knew water could be so green. I would if it even still counts as water but I digress. Holy moly can these people overstock a tank. These fish really just want to be put out of their misery. I forgot, this goldfish section is outside behind the store. At least the goldfish have decent price tags, well at least they would be good if the fish were healthy. It is right next to their koi pond which is alright. Inside the store are all their tropical fish, they have a decent selection. A whole bunch of cichilds. Nothing really rare but a decent supply. They are overstocked as well however. It is cramped and filthy, both the fish tanks and the store itself. O boy I'm done ranting. I can only hope that the goldfish in the back can find the salvation they deserve. I do not mean this as an attack on the store owners as much as it may look like but dang. I'm sure they're good people but please being nicer to the fish and people. read more
