Very bad experience here :( my bf went here to pick up coral and some saltwater fish. He said it was very dirty and the person working was slow and rude. We made the mistake of not quarantining the new fish before we put them in our tank. A few days later all of our existing fish started disappearing and those who didn't die are now covered in either ick or velvet and will die soon. DO NOT SHOP HERE. We will have to restart our whole tank and we are heartbroken. read more

Avoid this place. I noticed a few dead fish in the aquariums, but I mistakenly chose to overlook them- don't make the same mistake! I first visited about 1.5 weeks ago and purchased a fish that died within 24hrs. I took it back to the store and was offered a slight discount toward a replacement fish. The new fish has also now died (~1week later). I have a well-established tank (10+years) with three other adult fish who haven't had any issues, and we closely monitor our water conditions especially after that first fish. I can only conclude that this place is selling sick/poor quality fish. Not worth the risk when the store refuses to take accountability for the quality of their product. read more

We love Yo's! My family and I almost didn't even go here because of bad reviews, but I'm so glad we did! Now, we're pretty regular customers! Patrick and Billy Boy are very knowledgeable. They care about their fish and birds. Their reef tanks are established and HEALTHY, which speaks volumes. I have three tanks at home, and 95% of my fish are from Yo's. I've never had a sick fish or plant from here, ever. Anytime I've had a question about something or needed advice, these guys have been able to steer me in the right direction. My family and I look forward to visiting Yo's, not just to get fish, but also to see Patrick and Billy Boy. Ignore any negative reviews you've seen. These guys are experienced, they really care about what they do, and along with that, their prices are way better than chain pet stores. My go to place with a great selection of fish. As more and more stores close down I was disappointed in the selection of fish at the few stores left. I discovered Yo's & they were very helpful and the prices were reasonable. I was shocked to find a Zebra Pleco Not a False Zebra! They are incredibly hard to find & they were a lot cheaper than I have seen anywhere. Definitely coming back since they said they will be stocking more exotic fish. read more

The owner was incredibly rude. After walking an entire hour to get there I asked him a few questions and his response was "I already told you". I decided to keep my coins and simply leave. If anyone has any recommendations where I can purchase snails and exotic fish in W. Hollywood or surrounding area with staff with a cheery and helpful disposition please let me know. Wonderful place to get fish, plants, and other goodies. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by birds who are very playful and fun to watch. As you go along there's the rows of fish tanks separated into their respective categories; freshwater and saltwater. They have a pretty impressive stock, can't complain!! The people who work here are so nice, they even helped me carry out my haul of rocks and driftwood to my car. Will be returning in the near future!! read more

Been coming here for 20+ yrs. Billy, the owner, is a chill cat. They generally have a good selection of tropical fish and their prices are fair. It's a bit cramped inside where the fish tanks are, but it's similar to other stores setups I've seen. Yo has an incredible selection of fish and knows his stuff. Here's why I love this place: Yo: Super experienced, knowledgeable owner who clearly has the experience to handle specific questions (unlike Petsmart :(). I came in with a species-specific question about convict cichlids that he answered almost reflexively. I commented on how healthy the tanks looked and he told me they do very regular water changes, which we all know Petco fails hard at. Selection/fish: TONS of exotic-looking freshwater options for people like me who like the more unusual varieties - glass catfish, bichir, dwarf puffers, black ghost knife fish, etc. For the most part the tanks looked VERY healthy and fish were active, and I was happy to see that certain setups were species-appropriate, which any owner knows have a big impact on the health of the fish you're bringing home. He also has a great selection of more traditional species, like cichlids (including Jack Dempseys and Africans), giant goldfish, gloFish, etc. This is also a much better place to find ghost shrimp and snails and they're cheap. Yo also has a lot of saltwater species that you don't see as often in generic pet stores, like puffers. His coral looks to be in much, MUCH healthier and more established condition compared to what I've seen in the area at, say, Petco. Other stuff: I believe they sell rodents/hamsters and birds occasionally but don't remember seeing them in the store. Great selection of tank additives, filters, etc. I'll be coming here often. :) read more

This is a filthy store w/ sickly fish & tanks. They will cheat you if you don't watch their hands the entire time during your transaction. I have hand-pointed specific livestock and plants that I wanted, but discovered they had switched them w/ inferior and sick versions when I got home. Also watch how they pack your merchandise to ensure they don't do anything tricky behind that TALL DESK. Additionally, they are OVERPRICED. There are so many other LFS in the area. Proceed w/ extreme caution when doing business with this place. Go elsewhere to buy what you need. read more

They have a decent selection considering there's pretty much nothing else anywhere near here except for maybe PetCo on LaBrea and PetCo way down on Pico. My gripe is that these guys always blow smoke up my ass, telling me that the fish are new and healthy, or the plant shipment just came in. One time the old guy dips the net in and pulls out the wrong fish, and pretends like he doesn't speak English. Another time when I got home and droped the fish in the tank, it already looked old with worn fins, but looked like a juvenile in the store when I picked it out. I'm about 90% sure these guys pulled the old switcheroo on me. Just a few weeks ago I got like $20 worth water plants, and they literally lasted like 2 days and turned brown and died. My point is, watch these guys real close when they dunk the net in, they are super devious. And don't believe a word they say, they are full of BS. read more

The older man that works here is super rude. I called before hand for an item and he guaranteed he had a variety of syringes. Once I get there he doesn't have the item fully packed as brand new. I asked him if it would be okay to use that syringe to feed my pet because the tip of it is flimsy. He would just stare with a clueless face and was charging me for syringe $20. Such a rip off and rude. Avoid this place. He doesn't care about people's pet! read more

Marine fish are in really good shape - you can tell the owner puts a lot of thought into maintaining the fish health. Most of the corals are bleached so probably not the best place to buy coral. But for supplies and fish it is great. read more

This review is for their Saltwater section only. I'm giving 4 stars as an experienced Reefer. I actually got my first saltwater tank here. But unfortunately I wasn't prepared at all, and it was a nightmare for 5 months. However seeing as I probably would've never gotten into the hobby if it wasn't for him. I can't be too mad. I've been to almost every Saltwater store in the greater Los Angeles area. The owner is a pretty good guy. He's knowledgeable to an extent. I think in the 90's he was probably one of the top in the area. He takes a very minimalistic style of approach to all his tanks. Only has 1 real main DT for his corals. About 15 or so tanks for fish. And a small divider section he normally just keeps 20 clown pairs in. I think he gets his imports through a much different source than everyone else. Thus the 4 stars as he will often have a few inverts and corals hard to find in other areas around L.A. without ordering ahead of time. As well as smaller eels and unique saltwater fishes. With that said, definitely QT and dip everything from this store. 25% of the fish Ive gotten from this store have Ich. Other than that everything else I've ever gotten from here has been great. The language barrier makes it really hard to try to get any advice or tips from him. So don't go here expecting a rundown on things. Go here if you're experienced and have an idea of what you're already looking for want. Don't come here trying to get into the saltwater hobby. Try a different shop and online resources to start out. read more
