Clean store, healthy fish, and a great selection to choose from. What really stood out was how knowledgeable and honest the owner was. We came in looking for a betta fish for our daughter and asked what tank mates could live with it. He gave us a few options, but once he found out our setup was only a 3-gallon tank, he immediately changed his recommendation and suggested either one of two smaller options or simply letting the betta be the king of its castle. I also asked about getting a nerite snail, and instead of selling me one on the spot, he told me to come back in a few weeks because a new tank wouldn't have enough algae or biofilm for it to eat yet. That kind of honesty is rare. It's clear he genuinely cares about the fish and wants his customers to be successful, not just make a sale. Definitely recommend supporting this shop! read more

Small Aquarium shop with surprisingly competitive prices. The best part is the very helpful and knowledgable owner, who took the time to choose specific guppies for my son, which was very thoughtful. The tanks are very clean and the fish all look really healthy. A very nice variety of fish for a small shop, they also have cichlids and aquatic plants. The caring owner takes pride in his fishes, knowledgeable of different species, aquarium environment, water parameters, fish temperament, and much more When you start a hobby expenses get racked up really quick. As a hobbyist, you start to look for deals, alternatives, and other sources for hobby. But most importantly, you want to know which fishes go well together and what makes them happy. This owner know the numbers and what makes them happy. I've gotten advice from this owner many times in the past and always good solid information. When me and my son started this hobby. We were told that neon tetras are cool fishes and they love to school. After getting some we learned that they're hearty and really do school. The swimming patterns they make are exciting to watch. What's more is that I get compliments about my tank from the neon tetras. I now own 30+ neon tetras and the schooling formations are amazing. Recently I've tried to add a few runny nose tetras and I've gotten a few deaths which is expected in learning this hobby. The owner helped me trouble shoot what issues are most likely the problems and stressing out my fishes. Long story short my co2 levels were too high and I was starving my fishes of oxygen. Even after googling these issues, i learned it was easier to talk to the owner about them. 10-15 mins of trouble shoot talking with him saved me hours on the internet. I really appreciate him and will return to add more fishes to my school and talk about fishes! read more

This store has been around for a number of years. They are a small store but they have a very nice and sometimes eclectic selection. I have found arrowanas and discus and a nice selection of both basic community fish and cichlids. The health of the fish as been excellent for what I purchased, and they have a nice collection of the better frozen foods. If you are starting out, it is a good place to go for supplies, food, and fish. read more

@Nanette was right - Rosemead Aquarium is awesome. Easy street parking, clean tanks, and, most importantly, amazingly knowledgeable, patient, and caring service. We recently acquired a 10-gallon freshwater tank and have been raising snails and shrimp. Since our shrimp now have babies, we felt the environment is good enough for fish to survive. We eagerly popped into Rosemead Aquarium and at first he was hesitant to sell us fish, eventually settling upon tropical tetras. As he was ringing us up and chit-chatting, he quickly realized he should ask about our water temperature and realized that the tetras wouldn't do well in such cool water and instead switched us to japanese rice fish. A lot of fish and pet stores are low on pet fish to choose from lately. We went to several stores before coming here to buy goldfish. They had more unique goldfish to choose from and at very reasonable prices. Besides goldfish, they also sold small pet shrimp, arowana, koi, tropical fish, and other fish I don't know anything about haha. In addition, they sell aquatic plants, fish tanks, and aquarium accessories. We had a good time browsing around the store. Getting our fish was quick and easy. Friendly service. Pet fish shop that's been here for 33 years! They have a wide variety with Koi, Discus, Angelfish, Cichlids, Red Parrot, Fancy Goldfish, Arowana, Jardini, Tetras, Gouramis, Barbs, Plecos, and Shrimp. The tanks are all clean and appealing. Inside is a bit small but still good time browsing. The pricing is similar to that of petsmart and other smaller fish shops. Whenever I've bought fish here they all are healthy and easy to care for. There is street parking only. Definitely worth to visit for good quality fish. read more

Having aquariums almost all of my life, once component that matters is the quality of healthy fish in your tank. I come to this pet store because of the honesty of the pet shop owner. There's been multiple times where he would recommend that I either not over buy or when his new shipment of fish is not ready. If you're new to raising fresh water fish, you'll know how quickly a tank can turn for the worst if you introduce bad bacteria or fish with diseases. I've had this happen to me when I went to another pet shop in El Monte. Man, half my fish died because yes some of the fish I purchased was cheaper, but it's because the fish were unhealthy. Fast forward to the last couple of years, I've but tetras, plecos, rainbowfish, and guppies. Besides the guppies which couldn't survive with these type of fish, all the other spicies lived very long and are thriving and even had babies. Although, this small shop does not have a vast variety of fish, but if there's a species you like, I highly recommend coming here. I think this place is great for beginners. ALL the fishes are healthy in crystal clear water. My only gripe is the lack of selections. They have lots of fishes you can pick up at any big chain pet store. However, I would prefer to get fishes here because they look WAY healthier. The place is tiny, roughly the size of 2 living rooms...maybe smaller. Again, the fishes are healthy, with limited selection. read more

I was just walking by and decided to see if I could add a fish or two to my outdoor pond. The fish they carry here are nice healthy looking fish and after I asked to purchase a sucker algae eating fish I was advised not to. Most of the fish are indoor pets and need heaters so being outdoors would've killed the poor fish. The employees are very sensitive about having a good home for their fish. read more

I stopped by for some aquatic plants and some neon tetras but ended up also finding the perfect pieces of wood for my tank as well! The staff seem friendly enough although I question their gusto for the hobby or their pricing as they were all over the place with their quotes. Also, they didn't seem to know about the many different species within the same genus coming from different harvest locations from the same body of water. Not a place to chit chat and geek out about fish but their aquariums look ok and their fish aren't swimming the death wobble. There are other LFS that are more than happy to engage with their clients about their goals and setups for the hobby. I won't be returning to this shop. read more

It was a rainy day. I had went to Petco to look for some fish, but none caught my eye. But I was determined to find a pet, so I found the Rosemead Aquarium on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The place is small, but they had a variety of fish, fish tanks, and fish supplies. Originally I wanted to buy a 10gallon fish tank, but decided I lacked the space. And that's when I saw the Betta fishes. Besides looking cool due to their color schemes and small but elegant size, they also only needed a small affordable tank. I ended up buying two males, Achilles and Ajax. Achilles is turquoise, while Ajax was a vibrant blue. I left the Aquarium a happy and informed customer. This is one of the cleanest most well cared for aquatics stores I've visited. I don't know how they do it but their tanks are always pristine with no dead fish. Not a large collection of plants or hardscape but there is a good selection of fresh water fish at a reasonable price. Plus they are having a buy one get the second 50% off right now through x-mas for all fish! If I were looking for fish I would scoop up that deal. There were only a handful of local fish shops in the 626 area at the time from what I remember. Yelp wasn't around I think. Currently, many local fish shops have gone out of business sadly. Fortunately, this shop is still holding it down! I'm glad the owner is always there to greet/assist me. I decided to pick up this fish hobby again this time & be more serious about it by educating myself on it more than I used to. My preference is freshwater fish in a planted aquarium. Both different maintenance altogether. I'm struggling a bit y'all This shop has always been reliable because of its owner - who is honest, knowledgeable, friendly, and generous. Owner was readily available to answer questions & make suggestions on what materials needed to improve maintenance of my tank. I.e. I had a cloudy tank issue from algae bloom & his recommendation was spot on to fix the problem w/ a quick treatment. Saw improvements immediately following his suggestions. The size of the shop is like a small liquor store but very organized & has tank fulls of various freshwater fish. I don't think I've seen saltwater fish here. There is a shelf & wall filled w/ essentials to get you started on a brand new tank/maintenance for current tanks (filter pads, decor, cleaning pump, food, wood etc.). There were a few brand new tanks that looked cool too - similar to the curved Fluval Flex. Aquanet? Aqua something. Overall costs of fish/materials in comparison to other shops I've been to are decently priced from my experience. Every shop has their prices but I find that it doesn't differ that much. Never felt rushed or unappreciated here as a customer.
