Asa Ransom House - Thanksgiving special prime rib dinner

Asa Ransom House

Three friends went for Tea at the historic Asa Ransom House…read more The food was presented on a beautiful three tiered stand as one would expect at a Tea. The bottom layer held delicate, crust-less, savory finger sandwiches, 4 for each of us, all very tasty. On the second level were delicious scones and there were three spreads offered to enhance their flavor - lemony butter, what may have been clotted cream (not sure), and a fruity jam. On the top tier there were sweet cookies and cakes. The room was decorated with old fashioned country curtains, decorative wall paper, and fancy table cloths - a perfect back drop for this experience. The servers were attentive, prompt and friendly. It was what I expected and it didn't disappoint!

For my updated review, I came with 3 friends for afternoon tea. We were excited to try it, as none…read moreof us had ever been for tea and I hadn't been back under the new ownership. Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed in our overall experience. Each guest is given a sheet of paper where you can select 3 teas. The server didn't explain this was per person so we were confused thinking it was 3 per table. The biggest disappointment for us is that we were given tea bags, which in my opinion is not appropriate for an experience of afternoon tea and really cheapened the experience. As an avid tea drinker, I personally was expecting at least loose tea. We were given one hot tea pot for the table and had to constantly ask for refills until towards the end when the server gave us a second pot. It was a bit dangerous for us trying to pass one kettle around the table of four people as well. They also don't give you any iced water to drink on the side which was disappointing. In addition, no one came to clean out or change out your tea cup when you were moving on to drink the next tea. So I ended having a taste of earl grey in the chamomile tea. For the 3rd tea, I ended up dumping some of it out on my plate and wiping with my napkin. Eek! We did however, enjoy the food. They present you with a 3 tiered tray with a variety of finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries and jam/butter. We all thought the finger sandwiches, scones and desserts were delicious. The sandwich were tasty, but a bit tiny and definitely needed more filling. Overall, I may come back for the food but I was disappointed in the use of tea bags and the inattentive service.

Our second stay at this Wingate location this weekend was a huge success. Let's talk COVID first:…read morethey are doing a great job with regulations, cleaning, and adhering to policies set forth by NYS. Hand sani at every turn and I didn't see a single unmasked person throughout my stay. I should also note that the hotel was only at a third capacity, so we really didn't see much of anyone other than the staff throughout our one night stay. We felt safe and at home throughout, and this hotel put cleanline at top priority even before the pandemic. Onto more fun stuff! The staff here is top notch. So friendly and helpful and a pleasure to interact with. We brought our dog, Freddy Sue, this time around, and I would absolutely recommend this hotel to fellow dog owners looking to take their pup to a dog friendly town. It is a $70 charge which is steep, but was worth it to us in terms of peace of mind, especially with the off peak rate of this hotel on a Saturday to Sunday being $140. The beds are SO comfortable and I had such an awesome night's rest. Of course, the location cannot be beat. In the non-COVID times, we bopped from restaurant to restaurant drinking our way through the town and it was amazing to be able to come right back to the center of town as home base. For the price and guaranteed positive experience, I doubt we will ever stay anywhere else when we come to visit Ellicottville. Happy exploring!

The room was laid out wrong with a tv above a fake fireplace and a couch about 6 feet away meaning you had to look up to watch tv. As for the breakfast, it is cool food like vending machine muffins and bulk cereal. No hot food or waffle maker. Even the orange juice was little per-filled sealed cups like it came from a hospital cafeteria. They are remodeling the lobby but they should be doing something with the dated rooms. No charging stations and the couch was old and ratty. We will not be back to this place. UPDATE: I complained on my survey and was contacted by a customer service representative and they gave the company response "sorry for your bad experience we will try hard" which I replied, typical response, I don't believe you even read my additional comments. I said that there was a time when customers were compensated for bad experiences but now it is , we got your money, sorry. About a hour later a got a reply that half my money was being refunded. So at least they are trying so I changed my rating to 2 stars for the effort.

I am putting this hotel in top 5 cleanest hotels I have ever stayed. My compliments to the house…read morekeeping staff. Even the halls, lobby area, outside, and stairway were spotless. The hotel is very nice. Rooms are decorated beautifully and bed had great linens. I prefer a firmer bed but still it was comfy. Not quite the typical marriott furniture. For example, an area rug over laminate hardwood floors. And a cart that held the mini fridge, safe, and Keurig. I am a lifetime Marriott platinum member and we enjoyed the benefit of their complementary breakfast. You order off the menu (not buffet) and it was delicious. There is an outside patio area with comfy chairs and firepit...shares the space with the attached restaurant (Jazzboline). Would have liked to try the attached restaurant, but yelp reviews made it sound terrible. (I depend on yelp reviews). We stayed in the courtyard room behind the main building. Windows do not open and no pool. We were traveling through town and stayed one night. Kinda glad it was just one night...the area was just okay. Not much in walking distance more of a city residential area. Overall, it is was a very pleasurable and nice stay.

"Jenny, Jenny, Jenny Won't you come along with me…read moreYou know that I love you We could live so happily" (Little Richard) Great location just minutes from Geneseo's Main Street restaurants and the State University campus. Our room had a nice TV and workstation, the bed was comfy, the HVAC and Wi-Fi worked well, and the bath and shower were fine. Included breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausage patties, home fries, a waffle machine, cereal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, bananas and apples, oatmeal, breads, and pastries. The only odd thing about our stay was the check-in process. The attendant wasn't very friendly and was so slow and silent while working on her computer, we feared that our reservation had vaporized and drifted away into cyberspace somewhere.

He said " It'll freeze up if you crank it all the way down!" I replied "Is 69 degrees cranking it all the way down?!" He told me I could change rooms. I told him thought "If I'm packing my shit up, I'm only doing it once." I'm leaving. He told me he could refund $50. I started laughing and said "that's ridiculous, it's not even 1 am. The Hampton Inn in Geneseo to speak to "Stephanie" today inquiring about where my refund was. She asked what happened and I explained. She said " someone should have offered you another room ". I replied "If I'm packing my shit up, I'm only doing it once." She said, " Well I was going to give you a $50 refund but I'm not, because you're cussing at me!" I said " I sure hope you're recording this call, because I haven't cussed " at you" once! She said, " You said "If I'm packing my shit up, I'm only doing it once." I said" That is not cussing at you, I'm talking about packing my shit up!" She hung up on me. I'm done with Hampton Inn completely. They clearly can't make a repeat guest comfortable and I drive for a living. I'll be staying elsewhere.

This is a charming, comfortable, welcoming boutique hotel right in the center of everything in town. So walkable, so convenient. The restaurants were wonderful, food/service/ambiance all simply wonderful. Can't say enough about the staff. I felt like I was in Europe and yet close to home in SE Michigan. No need to fly off to Napa Valley for wine. Niagara-on-the -Lake has it all...vineyards, wine tasting, beautiful views and again, excellent service. The hotel has convenient and free parking underground, easy to get to, plenty of space. Bikes to ride. There is a beautiful zen garden in the back of the hotel for relaxation, conversation, fountains and beautiful flowers. Do not go to Niagara-on-the- Lake without staying at this hotel. Luxury linens, comfortable beds, stunning decor, very clean. Can't wait to go back!

I wished I lived closer so I could come here every month!…read more What a wonderful spa in the heart of Niagara on the Lake. My bf and I had a little spa day here. His first time! I'm glad this was his first experience, as this is what he has future spas to compare to lol. Check-in was super easy and fast. We were guided to the change rooms. We came on a Thursday afternoon, so it wasn't too busy. I mostly had the change rooms to myself. Inside the lounge is dim, with soft music it's perfectly relaxing. The lounge offers a great selection of teas. Lemon ginger is my favourite, which they had. They also have espresso pods. Of course they have some spa water, which was super refreshing. The main thing that surprised me was the selection of snacks they had! I've never been to a spa where they had basically unlimited snacks in the lounge. They had granola, cookies, brownies, biscottis and more. My bf received a 30 min massage, which focused on one area and I had a 60 min massage. My masseuse was friendly and very knowledgeable. I would have appreciated a deeper pressure on my legs and arms but the duration on these areas, was so short (as requested) I barely thought to even let her know I'd would like her to go deeper. I did let her know in the beginning though, that I do like a firm and deep pressure. Overall, she was just ok. The experience was still relaxing and she did loosen my neck and shoulders, which is what I was there for mainly. I so so appreciate that she used a hot towel to remove the oil on my back and the back of my legs. I love when spas do this. But I wished she had also done this after she worked the front of my legs and arms. There was so much oil on these areas, it would have been nice to have something to wipe it off. I did end up using the shower, since the oil really bothered me. The showers are spacious and I like that there's an area inside the shower to keep your belongings. I love the fact that they use loccetaine products. The scent they use is so nice. They also provide mouth wash, q-tips, cotton pads, hair ties, combs, plastic bags, tampons and a hair dryer. Check the drawers for the hair ties, combs and tampons. I wish I had checked these earlier cuz I really needed a hair tie lol. Oh and they also provide robes, sandals and towels. A wonderful experience from start to end. I think it also helped that the spa wasn't too busy that day. I'm excited to come back and try more services. Maybe even the hydrotherapy!

Sunday brunch. We came in after seeing a Facebook post…read moreadvertising brunch from 10-2 on Sundays. We arrived at about 10:30am. First off, the property, the building, what we could see of the grounds is beautiful. It's still snow covered and cold, but I bet this place is lovely in the summertime. Through the front entrance into the grand foyer, there are no signs, no host, or any indication of where to go, so we looked in different doorways, found a bathroom, a lounge, a long hallway; eventually a gentleman spotted us wandering and asked if we were here for brunch. When we entered the dining room, the friendly server came by and told us to sit anywhere, pointed out the coffee and juice and food in the next room. She was a doll. There were 2 guys eating in the dining room, and by the time we left, only one more table of ladies came in, not busy at all. It was quite inexpensive for what they offered (2 adults $40) you could add mimosas or something else from the bar, if you wanted a beverage other than juice, water, coffee, or tea. The food was just ok, there were plenty of lunch and breakfast choices, the mac and cheese was good, their take on Italian Wedding soup was good, but it was mostly just ok. Some things were obviously sitting a while, e.g. the Minestrone was the consistency of chili, but hubs tried it and said it was good. Parking, unfortunately, is far from the entrance, and the long walk to the door very icy, unsalted and dangerous. Maybe we try again in better weather, we'll see.
