Sunday brunch. We came in after seeing a Facebook post advertising brunch from 10-2 on Sundays. We arrived at about 10:30am. First off, the property, the building, what we could see of the grounds is beautiful. It's still snow covered and cold, but I bet this place is lovely in the summertime. Through the front entrance into the grand foyer, there are no signs, no host, or any indication of where to go, so we looked in different doorways, found a bathroom, a lounge, a long hallway; eventually a gentleman spotted us wandering and asked if we were here for brunch. When we entered the dining room, the friendly server came by and told us to sit anywhere, pointed out the coffee and juice and food in the next room. She was a doll. There were 2 guys eating in the dining room, and by the time we left, only one more table of ladies came in, not busy at all. It was quite inexpensive for what they offered (2 adults $40) you could add mimosas or something else from the bar, if you wanted a beverage other than juice, water, coffee, or tea. The food was just ok, there were plenty of lunch and breakfast choices, the mac and cheese was good, their take on Italian Wedding soup was good, but it was mostly just ok. Some things were obviously sitting a while, e.g. the Minestrone was the consistency of chili, but hubs tried it and said it was good. Parking, unfortunately, is far from the entrance, and the long walk to the door very icy, unsalted and dangerous. Maybe we try again in better weather, we'll see. read more

Awful. We just went for my dad's 80th birthday. Made a reservation for 8. Showed up and there was a table for 6 setup in the hot sun. We requested a different table in the shade. Two tables were put together of completely different sizes. Awkward. Also, we were right next to tables that were flipped upside down. There was an outhouse and garbage cans next to the building on the same side so that was part of our view. It took 25 minutes for the server to come over and get our drink order. It took another 25 minutes to get our drinks and they were terrible (mojitos and stale wine). We ordered shrimp cocktail and that was mushy and gross. We decided to not order dinner there and left. So disappointing especially for a special occasion. The grounds are beautiful there so this is such a wasted opportunity in so many ways. I was so excited when I found out my sister in law was having her bridal shower here. When I showed up I was very impressed with the grounds and building, however by the time I left I think most of us were left with a bad taste in our mouths. The owners were working the bridal shower and couldn't have been more ill prepared or rude. First off, they did not prepare enough food for the bridal shower to eat timely. By the time my table was called up to eat, the only thing left was salad. They did eventually bring bacon as well, however they didn't bring out more eggs, sandwiches, etc until everyone was already done eating. That was very disappointing. On top of that, the coffee bar set up was poorly presented, missing a place to actually make your coffee and tee without spilling it (the table with everything on it had a lip making it unable to set anything on). They were also missing cream until we asked for it. The garbage for stir sticks , wrappers, etc was not easily seen so many left their garbage on the table. When one of the guests made a cup of tea, the cream curdled in it but she didn't want to leave the curdled tea on the coffee bar table so she politely asked the owner if she could take it to the kitchen with her and she flat out said "no" until the guest explained what happened and that she didn't want to leave it on the table and then the owner said "fine. Give me it" and stormed off extremely rude. Everyone was shocked by the way she treated the guests. This was not the end of the issues, however. The container holding water was empty for most of the shower, as well as the pitchers of soda. The mimosa bar was also empty much of the party and then taken away before the party was over, much to the disappointment of many of the guests. On top of the poor service, the bathrooms really need some updating. They were shocking to say the least. There were holes in the walls that were never patched or repainted and everything looked so dingy. Overall, the grounds are nice but the service and facilities were far below what we expected for the price you have to pay to have a party here. read more

My current theory is that the place hasn't been open in 47 years and we were being served by an entire community of ghosts trying to lure us into their trap of shitty tasteless overcooked food, à la Hotel California. We're lucky to have escaped unscathed. The highlights: -they were out of the caprese skewers, so instead we opted for garlic bread. You'd think it's pretty hard to screw up garlic bread, and you're right. But somehow they managed. What was served can only be described as blackened, plastic wonderbread with a texture that resembled fossilized dragonflies. Turns out they ran out, so they went to the store for the frozen kind (as the owner later admitted to us). Maybe they warmed it up with a hair dryer because I've had even frozen garlic bread that was exponentially better than what was served. - the bacon-wrapped scallops were probably the least offensive part of the entire meal, although they were inexplicably served with cocktail sauce. This is not a place that knows about fine dining, folks. - they said they had run out of lobster tail, at least 10 minutes after 3 of us ordered the surf & turf. The "substitution" was 4 tiny shrimp that were also overcooked & flavorless cardboard. They refused to adjust the full price of the surf & turf. -I ordered my steak medium rare, & said "more on the rate side if anything." It looked like Salisbury steak pounded flat to a quarter inch thick. SO overdone, with zero pink. I said I ordered it medium rare & so our server took it back to the "chef." She returned & informed me that "the chef says that's a perfect medium." I replied "well I didn't order it medium, I ordered it medium rare, and I specified more on the rare side." She paused, then replied "well... our chef says it's not even legal to serve it that rare." - and THEN when my father tried speaking to the manager and explaining, calmly, everything we were so extremely disappointed about, the owner showed up, lost his shit, threw $80 from his wallet at my dad & said "you try running a restaurant! It's not easy!" and followed by "I have an anger problem!" because my brother started recording his tirade, thinking he was about to take a swing at them. I promise I couldn't make any of this up. We were shocked at not only the horribly poor quality of food, but also the unbelievably unprofessional manner of the entire staff. If you have a gift certificate use it soon before they go out of business, which has to be soon. Or better yet, give it to someone you have a secret vendetta against & laugh when they go. read more

Came here and had reservations for 715, arrived at seven and was told it might be a while. They said you can go to the bar. We went to the bar and got a beer, went outside and listened to the music. Sat outside for over an hour ...no one ever came up to us. Took a walk, came back to where we were sitting. We had had a second beer, we decided that we were done. Checked back in with the front desk, nobody is available. We decided we were leaving, on our way out he mentioned that we waited over an hour for a table; they had crossed our names off the list. They need to get their act together. It's a beautiful place (used to be the seminary). Could be great but their CS needs work. It pains my to write a bad review, especially for a small business. In short, I would stay far away form this place unless they have an entire new staff & management, updated business practices, & have renovated their rooms to a safe condition. Pros:The WiFi is strong & there is good cell reception over the whole property. The views are gorgeous. They did work with my late check in request. They allowed the bride/groom to check in for me & told me where the room & key were located. Cons: What the staff lacks in the bare minimum of hospitality, they more than make up for in disrespect & attitude. The rooms are not worth the price & the mold that exists appears to be over the entire Inn, & is not just in the annex. (If you do end up in the annex, please don't stay here for your own health & safety. For the details that support the above- If you wan the full review, you can read it on TripAdvisor. I stayed at the Inn along with several guests of a wedding. I had the opportunity to see rooms in both the mansion & in the annex, so this review is first hand. If you reserve a room with AC during the summer months- you are "lucky". The window unit AC has minimal output, but it does provide a small relief, especially compared to the non-ac rooms. It's important to note that NOT all rooms in the mansion have AC. They did provide a small fan which helped circulate the air. We went out & bought another one since were two of us in the room. The ADA room did have "AC", but the couple staying there was still sweating throughout the night. The wing of the mansion that we stayed in had a large, but shared/co-ed style bathroom. Luckily we were all in the same party on that floor, but I can't imagine paying $130+ a night to share a bathroom with random guests. The rooms in the annex did have separate men/women showers, similar to a campground. It appears that many of the annex rooms also had their own private toilets in the rooms. The staff never came into the shared bathroom to empty the trash, replace the toilet paper or paper towels, replace the bathmats that EVERYONE was using, or to clean the bathroom. (I stayed a total of 3 nights- & no one came up to clean the bathroom.) The Inn had a staff member sit sit at the front door to check everyone's bags as they checked in- looking for alcohol. I've never seen this happen at a hotel before. The staff were also taking the master key & going through guest's rooms to see if alcohol had been brought in. Several guests had their alcohol confiscated. While the staff had no problem going through the guest's rooms, they didn't come into our rooms to clean, make the beds, or provide/offer clean towels. Read TripAdvisor review of ADA room. We attended a wedding here, & the bartender asked someone to find out if the service dogs that were at the event were true service dogs. Two members of our party went up to the bartender to speak with her, so she knew that they were legitimate service dogs. The bartender's response was, "Well no one told me they would be here & I have to know." It appears that the lack of communication with the event staff & Inn staff somehow became the fault of the individuals who needed certified service dogs. Long story short- a guest was told by staff that if a room was unlocked on the annex hall, it was open for the wedding party to stay in- they didn't provide a room number. The next morning when this guest woke up in one of their rooms, he discovered that his room was completely covered with mold. He immediately spoke with the front desk & was told "You weren't supposed to be in that room- those are supposed to be blocked off." The staff accused him of going into a blocked off, moldy room- when it was the room that their staff told him to use. (See Photos.) Both the ADA room & rooms in the mansions stuck of mold I had a horrible headache during my stay. (I didn't drink- so not a hangover.) Myself & another member of my family woke up with raspy throats (no voice) & a bad cough. A little over 2 hours after we left the property, the cough went away & our voices came back. We are both allergic to mold. I've stayed at numerous places across the US & Europe for years. I've worked in customer service for over 10 years, as well as high end catering & bar-tending. This Inn is the most miss-managed & poorly run space that I've ever had the misfortune of visiting. I've seen the owner or someone who works foe the Inn commenting on several reviews with unprofessional responses & a lack of responsibility for the Inn's shortcomings. If this honest review receives such a response- you can guarantee that your stay/even will be met with the same hostility. read more

Where to begin.....Easter Sunday brunch, 2025: First, we DID have a great experience in Spring 2024 at a wonderful lunch (bereavement), so we thought why not try their brunch? I don't know if there are new owners/managers/chefs, but it was abysmal for the Easter brunch. Truly "amateur hour." We had to ask multiple times for items in the chafing stations to be refilled as they were completely empty. 2 tiny pitchers with syrup for the French Toast (which was actually decent) - come on, people. It's a big venue with a lot of people there for a holiday - the containers were empty quickly. The coffee station's carafes emptied quickly as well and were finally refilled after about 20 minutes and multiple people asking for that. They really should have had a staff member behind the chafing stations to keep track of what needed to be refilled. The pierogies were....strange to say the least. Although they had a pierogi shape, they were served dry with no butter or sauteed onions..and definitely had an odd dough and taste. This is coming from a whole table of people who are Polish, so we know what they should taste like and how they should be served. The desserts? Well, the 2 store-bought/bakery cakes were decent. Then there was a table with plastic-wrapped plates and what looked like pieces of brownies and cookies - honestly, it looked like an elementary school bake sale. It would have been great to have an assortment of little pastries, croissants, etc. - that is nice brunch fare. Some fruit and cereal was available and some hot dinner choices too (shrimp pasta had hard, crunchy pasta) and the ham was pretty good. All in all, this was a completely disappointing holiday meal and I felt really bad since I had suggested it. Owners of Suncliff, in all honesty, you are not ready to be in the holiday brunch business. It is disjointed service and nobody came to offer us mimosas or other beverages (at an additional cost). We asked for our check and after 20 minutes, we had to go hunt down someone to get it for us. $38 per person? This brunch was not worth $15. And the music? It was truly just bizarre! A kids' cd of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and various other children's tunes. There weren't even many kids at all (we saw about 3). The view/grounds are pretty but the building could use some updating/upgrades. I was so embarrassed to have suggested it to my family and we will not be going back to Suncliff for any reason ever again. read more

My daughter had a long list of requirements for a wedding and I said don't worry we'll wait until we find it. I wasn't sure we would, but we did when we went to suncliff. We reserved the whole place for two nights. The parents of bride and groom and the entire wedding party stayed in the main house and all their friends stayed in the annex. The food was delicious and served HOT. The tent was perfect. There were equal tables on each side of huge dance floor which I think encouraged people to dance. Everyone danced and we had a great time. We have large family and the space was big enough to take pictures of our entire side and I'm going to be using that for Christmas presents for each of the 50 or so in picture. The setting is just perfect. It rained so much that day but there were plans for inside. Luckily it stopped a couple of hours before and the staff cleared off all seats etc. I'd definitely recommend the two nights rental of the whole place and gifting that to bride to fill for the people she and groom want I was going to do it differently, but in the end my daughter's decisions were 100% right of having her friends there. The main house is of course lovely and the annex is very modest, functional. However I heard her college friends saying that they thought it would be more modest but it was perfectly fine and better than their college dorms were freshmen and sophomore years. However they especially appreciative of it having a place to stay when they came in for the wedding. Some aren't making that much yet and even the one who is had expenses of moving across country and getting apartment etc., So she appreciated it so much. When you think about it, the kids want to support each other and be there for each other's weddings but nowadays it's so expensive with the cost of hotel rooms and they're all just starting out in life so I think a huge number of them would not have been able to come if they hadn't had a place to stay. Also I didn't worry about drinking and driving or driving while tired by having all these young people with their whole features ahead of them staying at the venue. For the older folks, aka over 31!, We opted to have them stay at a hotel in downtown Buffalo which is the thing walking distance of the rehearsal dinner. We provided a bus from there to the venue and back and even people who were saying elsewhere or lived in Buffalo or the northtowns took the bus and we're really happy about that. The timing of everything was perfect and one of the two owners went through everything with us and brought up a lot of things that we hadn't considered and we followed her advice and everything went very smoothly. My sister-in-law of 31 years said sincerely that it was the best event in our family's history. Having everyone there, together, with no one rushing you out, no one leaving early. read more

We went to this place for a special event - a "Bal Musette" with French music and a special French menu. We had a Coq au Vin which was good but the regular menu items looked amazing- especially the salmon! The service was a bit slow. The music and bar was excellent! I will say that the Charcuterie platter was huge! But did not have quality items - had a delicious capriole and another unique cheese, but was mixed with pepper jack, cheddar and pepperoni. We would prefer less with more quality but that is our opinion. Overall the place is absolutely beautiful, prices were GREAT! And they presented a fun evening- the music was fantastic! The worst dinner ever .....hugely overpriced...we got old menus and new menus at our table of 8 last night ..server had no clue ....prices were literally scratched off with pen and rewritten (super classy) Half of us Had different pricing. Surf and turf had a $30 up charge.. After we compared menu prices! prices were different ...food was terrible... Vegetables on everyone's plates were cold the baked potatoes were hard (we asked for butter everyone got 1 packet to unwrap... felt like we were at a tavern for a fish fry) We asked to see a dessert menu ... our server told us there was no dessert and no coffee?!!! complained to the "owner" He was behind the bar serving drinks shouldn't he have been walking around to each table asking how their very expensive meals were? A WORD OF CAUTION on the Suncliff: We booked this location for a stay following a wedding during the pandemic. Sadly, due to both local restrictions and those of guests from abroad, this event was unable to be held. The Suncliff (Brenda) ultimately witheld the full amount (almost $1k) of deposit- in exchange for no services rendered. The pandemic is frustrating for all of us, especially small business owners. However, the Suncliff was the only vendor we dealt with among many who explicitly took that frustration out on us in poor taste, to their advantage. Duplicitously, they made no effort for partial refund as initially indicated from rebooking, which they had 3 months to consider in advance. I would strongly advise reconsidering your support of such businesses. read more

Well I was hoping to review Suncliff on the Lake in regards to my daughter's wedding but due to Covid-19 that has been postponed. The staff at Suncliff was very accommodating and even agreed to hold two dates next year while they decided. While I have not stayed in their rooms yet, all the rooms in the main house all look comfy and each one is beautifully unique. A lot of the rooms share a bath so be sure to check the website for the rooms that dont if that is something you are not willing to do. They do have a wing of very tiny rooms on the cheap these share a bath as well. You don't have to spend the night to enjoy Suncliff. Their dining room and bar area are open most nights. The chef they have on staff is one of the best ones in Buffalo in my opinion. I have yet to have a bad meal. They often have different events going on as well to make it truly a night out. There has been nothing lately because of Covid and I hope that changes soon. Be sure to take your drink and stroll down toward the water. The view is stunning. read more

If I could give zero star I would. This place is a joke when it comes to food and service. On June 23 2022 my girlfriends and I made reservations to celebrate a 70th birthday. We stopped in the lounge and was greeted by a charming bartender who served us drinks and then proceeded to the outdoor patio for dinner. The atmosphere and mansion are breathtaking. Now this is where the nightmare begins. Our dinner reservations were for 6:00pm. After viewing the menu we decided on the homemade lasagna, and salmon. The waitress informed us they were out of lasagna. (mind you it was only 6:00pm and the restaurant had just opened). She also stated they were out of pasta and lettuce. WHAT how can you not have pasta at 6:00pm. Then we were told there was no sour cream for the bake potatoes. The waitress brought rolls that we like cardboard (obviously that had been frozen and then nuked). We waited over an hour and half before our dinners arrive. One lady received a piece of salmon ( 5oz) and the other received a piece the was not bigger than a hot dog. I pointed out the difference in size and the waitress said well that is how they come. At that point I left the table and requested to speak with the manager. She said, "oh we are short staffed and have young people working". Well, short staffed has nothing to do with the quality of the food. She said she would comp us drinks, which we already had and did not want more because we were driving. The manager said she would take 20% off the bill and I argued and said, "you better take a lot more off than 20%". When I was in the lobby I spoke with a few customers who informed me they never eat here because the food is awful and they are often out of many items and the restaurant is poorly managed. She said the only reason they were there was for drinks and the music. The waitress did bring 2 complementary desserts. Both managers are owners of the restaurant. I think it is time they look for new careers because food service certainly is not their forte. So my advice avoid this place at all cost. You be better off at McDonalds. read more

Came to Suncliff for dinner to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We had stopped a few days earlier to have a cocktail and see the grounds. The patio dining is a wonderful setting, with picturesque views of a lovely walkway lined by trees which leads you to the edge of the property overlooking Lake Erie. Truly reminiscent of Europe. Unfortunately the food does not come close to meeting expectations. Salads arrived with little plastic cups filled with mediocre bottled dressing. Butter was served in plastic singleserve containers like you would find in a roadside diner. The ribeye steak was a very thin cut of meat and lacked any flavor. The half chicken dinner was seasoned well enough but the sides of red smashed potatoes were boring and the broccoli was on the overcooked side. Others in our party had the salmon and the grilled pork chop both stating they thought their meals were just OK but expected better quality. Overall every dish lacked any presentation on the plate and was "just ok". Wine selection is all on the low-end price point side that you could find in any liquor store for $14-22 range. We passed on the wine selection and opted not to have dessert because we came to the conclusion it would be probably as lackluster as our meals. We do not mind spending money at all on good fine and enjoyable dining. Given the setting in the beautiful historic building and grounds we really thought the food would be a reflection of the special place this could be. I believe Suncliff on the Lake could be or should be a dining destination given the setting but the food quality and is going to keep it from being what it could be. read more

Great old world charm in historic mansion. Affordable Elegance We stayed in the Venice Suite which was spacious and airy. We got a tour of the whole mansion; rooms range from singles with toilets to rooms with shared baths to queen bedded rooms with private bathrooms. We travel to east coast B&B's and are familiar with the shared bath concept. My family hosted a graduation party this past weekend for my sister and 40 guests at Suncliff, including overnight accommodations, and we were thrilled with our experience. The owners David and Brenda were easy to communicate with, took their time to understand our needs, and I truly felt they went out of their way to ensure the best experience possible. Chef Andrew did an outstanding job with the food and desserts, really going out of his way to honor our dietary restrictions, and knocked it out of the park. The venue is located right on the edge of Lake Erie, with nice views and a beautiful property. Having our party as an overnight stay made it really fun for our large family group. Based on our experience with the owners, it is well on its way to even more improvement. Would strongly recommend! read more

Such a Disappointment!! Such a disappointment. Attended for Murder Mystery and event was changed once arrived. No murder mystery but just an improv group that was horrible & so cheesy. Committed theatre junkie and so wanted to see this suceed as this is so needed in the area. Beautiful venue, nice room, nicely decorated but need to so step this up. Food buffet was acceptable but not worth the $45.00 ticket price and chicken was undercooked. If event had been enjoyable people would have perhaps hung around in the bar afterwards. Prospective brides should be wary of this place. The owners haven't a clue about running a wedding venue. Their lack of experience, indecision, and inability to iron out simple details is extremely worrisome for anyone looking to plan a wedding here. We signed a contract for our 2019 wedding and after the owners sat on it for 3 weeks, they informed us they were changing the terms and we were required to block and pay for all of the "hotel" rooms. We accepted the new terms and decided to continue even though they made it clear that WE would be responsible for managing all of the rooms for the guests and collecting money from them (on top of all of the other things involved in planning a wedding!). The next time we met, we learned they booked a wedding the day before ours meaning we wouldn't be able to use the space for our rehearsal. They had no solution for this except to change the date of our wedding, which was unacceptable. We initially visited the property in April and again in July. They made a ton of progress and improvements during this time. However, we visited again early October and nothing looked any different except for the solar lawn lanterns strapped to the wrought iron veranda railing with black electrical tape (really?). The ceremony arbor is falling apart and there are weeds growing up through the sidewalk where ceremonies are held. We were going to have our 2019 wedding here but pulled the plug after I decided I couldn't live in worry for a year about the state of the property and what else the owners might fail to do or think of. I've never felt such a relief. They really need to invest in a wedding consultant and a dedicated wedding coordinator. They often take days, if not a full week to respond to emails. This is a provisional review. The ambiance is spectacular. My wife and I have been there a few times for cocktails and food. They do have a kitchen but the menu is very limited. Every time we went there were only two choices, ok the place is just getting up and running. I hope that they get a chef and provide greater lunch and dinner selections. A few of us stopped in for a cocktail recently. 3 domestic beers and a vodka and tea was $32. A little steep we thought. I know the bar is small, but my proctological health is very important to me. The view was awesome no doubt! But, I think I will go somewhere nearby where that round cost $20 or less! read more
