The amenities were pretty basic and the facilities were dated. Perhaps the hotel side is nice, but the spa needs a bit of renovation. I don't plan on returning anytime soon.

There were so many adorable details, I wish I had taken more photos. Inside, there's tea available all day, and free breakfast in the mornings. The spa is embedded right in the hotel, and when you're a guest using the amenities is seamless. You can easily get into an exercise class, like Zumba or yoga, or use the pool and the saunas- there's one with hot dry heat and another with steam. When you get up to your hotel room it feels more like you're in some kind of time capsule. They have kind of an exhibit of historical objects from the area. Then the room is kind of effortlessly elegant, in that unique New England-y way- just nice furniture, great materials in the bed sheets and whatnot, and some spiffy flair- like a luxurious tub with a huge tabletop for putting bubble bath, salts, spa essentials, maybe a bottle of wine?, and an outdoor terrace for having a light breakfast in the morning (put some fruit in your mini fridge, from the morning or from a market nearby). Five out of five experience.

We appreciated the thoughtful details around the room like the warm towel racks, the homemade oatmeal and coconut cookies, the bottle of wine that was left in the fridge (which we most certainly drank!). The property itself was well manicured and beautiful, and the homemade breakfast was to die for. We were given great suggestions for things to do as well which we took advantage of on our last day and we're so glad we did. On our last morning we let them know we were leaving early for the airport and they dropped off homemade strawberry scones which were the perfect on the go breakfast for our ferry ride back to Woods Hole. If you're looking to experience a clean and inviting place with 5 star hospitality, Charles and Charles is a must!

The owners are actually from LA so we connected about that, and they actually took us to the ferry on our last day as we went to Nantucket. A very special place, we also loved borrowing the bikes and riding all over the island. This place is perfect. The only tip I would have though is to bring earplugs because the beds are so comfortable you will hear snoring from your neighbours :)

Abby of 1720 House has questionable ethics…read more I made a reservation by phone for my 82 year old mother. Abby wouldn't commit to telling me which room she would be booked into. I asked her if she could stay in a particular first floor room and the reply was, "No, no, no!" I said she's 82 and has trouble with stairs. She said she was going to be on the second floor and that there were "just a few stairs." Unfortunately, I had already paid, assuming she would care about an 82 year old person. Boy, was I wrong. She stated several times that the reservation was not changeable or able to be canceled. I made the mistake of paying before I found out which room she would be booked into. Never having been there, I took her word for it, thinking a few was a few. There are no photos on the site of the staircase. As it turns out, it is a full flight of stairs with treacherously uneven floors covered in old carpet. Inside the front door is an old, bunches up cotton rug on top of an antique wool rug. When we pulled up to the house, Abby was outside speaking with someone. She told us there were keys on the hall table. She didn't show my mother to her room, we had to find it on our own. In addition, one afternoon, I went to make a cup of tea for my mother and found the cups and creamers to be dirty inside. No matter, there was no milk or cream to be had. I cleaned out a cup and made some tea. The last day of my mother's reservation, she went downstairs to the dining room on time, (there is a strict one hour breakfast service policy,) to find no coffee, no bread for toast. Some yogurt and blueberries were available. We understood there was an abbreviated breakfast due to Covid but coffee and toast were served every morning. It seems my mother was the last to leave and so no coffee had been made - because, why exactly? What a sour taste in our mouths, like the milk that curdled in my mothers coffee on Wednesday. (Apparently, that was the farmer's fault.)
