Clark Lewis is a great American-inspired restaurant with a warm, dimly lit atmosphere that makes it perfect for date night. The ambiance is intimate and is one of my favorite things about dining here. They have a great selection of drinks, plenty of food options, and some delicious wood-fired pizzas. If you're not sure what to order, get the salmon. It's the original Saucebox-inspired salmon recipe, and for anyone who misses Saucebox, it's worth the visit alone. And whatever you do, save room for dessert. The affogato is absolutely worth it and the perfect way to end the meal. read more

Full disclosure, this was not a complete experience with Clark Lewis. I would love to be able to return for an authentic experience. I had pre-booked a table for Christmas Eve, since I had wanted to come here for a long time. After church, I made my way over for a 7pm dining time. After being greeted and waiting for several minutes, I was surprised to learn that I no longer had a table. I was seated at the bar with a very uncomfortable and backless chair. Normally, this would be fine since bar dining is fast, but I wanted to sit and enjoy my book too. Once I was greeted by the bar staff, I was given just a drink menu. I was then informed that this night was buffet only, at $119 per person. I was not thrilled, since I had not been informed of this before this moment, nor with the 3 weeks I held the reservation. I walked the buffet line to peruse options, and, after discovering that the meal was similar to what I was cooking on Christmas Day, I left. I would love to return another time, but I was definitely bummed with the communications I received in advance. The bar team was lovely and understanding, though! read more

For entree we had a veggie pizza , roasted chicken and osso bucco. The best thing was the pizza. It wasn't too crowded and with a group of 6, we got a great table and they let us hang out there for a while. We made reservations for an early dinner before a concert. Food was good, however during our meal one of the servers accidently spilled 2 or 3 full pints of beer all over my coat that was over the back of my chair, thankfully, otherwise the beer would have landed on me directly. No problem, I understand that accidents happen. The issue I have is that I chose to simply have them reimburse me for the cost of having my wool coat cleaned, the cost was minimal compared to the cost of our meal, it was $28.25. The manager gave me his email address to send the request in, I sent them copies of my receipt withing two weeks, this was December 20th and I have yet to hear anything back, so disappointing! This is a nice little spot kinda in the "rose" area but really closer to OMSI. There is street parking. The bathroom is out the back side of the restaurant but is clean and still enclosed -- ie you aren't going outside just outside the restaurant. The entrance has stairs and it is not obvious where the "host" stand is but we were greeted right away. The patio seating is nice and is covered. The walls opening out to the patio were all open when we were there and we were seated at a table right at that opening so it was chilly for me.. but my guy liked it. The tables are spread out enough to have conversation but also in an intimate style. There is way more room than you think in this place. The kitchen is an open concept and I love that! It is fun to watch people work. We ordered espresso martinis which were good. There is a full bar so order what you like. The martinis were good... The bread served before dinner was good... kind of a dark sourdough I don't know for sure but I liked the flavor. We ordered the Fennel Pollen Crusted Double R Ranch New York Strip which is a 14 oz our night and is Market Price which was $64 on our visit. We shared that and it was a nice piece of meat. However, the start to me was really the mashed potatoes which I normally don't need or care about. The steak seasoning being on them was kinda amazing. The lobster mushrooms were new to me and they are very meaty which I liked. We did not get dessert because we were in a hurry for an OMSI presentation. Here on a visit! This was more casual upscale than super fancy. Plenty of reservations open for dinner on the 4th. Our server was an friendly and attentive older gentleman. The food was delicious and worth it when you remember every food product is locally bought. That's why the price is what it is, support local businesses! The table had paper over the table cloth which lessened the ambiance, I wish it was just cloth. It was loud so if you're going for an intimate meal, request a private one further away from the entrance and open kitchen concept. The food was tasty but the salmon wasn't as flavor packed as I had hoped. It was well made but I prefer it had more of the glaze it came with. This place has been on the radar since even during my previous marriage. But there were a couple things that caught my current wife's eye. Reservations and happy hour in the dining room. She also got inspiration from that Korean mom video on the Tick Tock. What was good. Great deal on the happy hour menu. We really liked the pizza. Not as poofy as other Neapolitan styles but still just as yummy. The famous lamb pasta was really yummy. Perfect pasta. However the value is a little off considering the amount of lamb that you get. This is not an entree. The desserts were delicious and well composed but really expensive. Mind you there is also a service charge on everything so it adds up. The olives and cheese plate were meh. Actually the olives were too salty and the cheese plate lacked a sweet element so it actually was kind of hard to eat. The cheeses were not explained either. In general the service was a little spotty. Pacing was off and we were left a long time waiting for the drinks and check. I'd come back for happy hour but probably avoid the non hh things. read more

On a normal evening, the food is excellent. The service is always excellent! For holidays, be sure to call and check if there is a buffet that evening. If so, I'd suggest going somewhere else. The buffets just do not make the high cost worthwhile. Christmas Eve, the buffet was pretty lackluster. The prime rib was just ok, the pork WAY over seasoned. The stuffing seemed way too moist. Many sides just not up to the usual par for this place. The desserts were ok. We were expecting the usual awesome food at a nice sit-down restaurant, not a buffet line like at a wedding with sub-par food, all for the same price. It would have also been nice to get a good table, not shoved in a room in the back hallway, even with making reservations in advance. It was Thanksgiving and our household hates to cook...so we decided to try this place...first time ever. To be fair...this was not their typical menu, rather a Thanksgiving buffet featuring many of the holiday classics. The spread included salad, mash potato, stuffing, mac and cheese, cranberry, veggies, dessert and more. The food line was long but moved well....it was a self serve deal. Both my wife and I agreed...the food was just average. Not bad...but nothing was really exceptional either. We also sampled a couple of the sweet treats...again...basic fare. But what takes my review down a star is the bill....specifically a house "service fee" as it is listed on the bill. I asked what this was and my server said it is a fee implemented during COVID to cover back of house...that sounds like a tip for the back staff to me...but she said it is not really a tip. Well...I did the math and it was exactly 10% of our bill...sure seems like a tip. We ended up tipping the additional 10% to make sure we were leaving 20% on the meal...but that process seems very deceptive to me and quite frankly made me feel uncomfortable as I had to explain to the server why we we only left 10% in the tip line...I eat out at restaurants all around the country and have seen built in gratuity but nothing quite like this "service charge"...it is for that reason that I do not plan on ever returning to this restaurant. read more

Love the open layout and romantic ambience. The space was very accomodating for a large group. Our super long table was right next to the bar. The staffs were attentive constantly filling water and checking in on us. We had a very pleasant three hour dinner. The pace was nice and slow. All their grilled vegetable starters were great with the Brussel Sprouts being my favorite followed by the Harissa Carrots and Lentils. Great doneness and flavors. The Charcuterie Plate was nice too. For main, I enjoyed the Salmon with very pillowy gnocchi but would have preferred the Short Ribs next time. The Parm Chicken was HUGE for the same price and came with a creamy pesto linguine. For desserts, we got a bunch to share. Loved the Coconut Cake. The Buttermilk Sorbet was so unique and refreshing with the delicious cake. Flourless Chocolate Cake was too dense for me. Espresso Gelato was nice though. Lastly the Basque Cheesecake was alright. Fluffy but could be more flavorful and the Smoked Honey Gelato was a bit of a miss. Drinks were strong too. First time and it was for Weiner Week. My boyfriend and I were surprised to find such a nice establishment participating as it is usually dive bars that do. We arrived right upon opening to a small crowd. There were plenty of tables but not enough staff. It looked like one waitress manning the entire area for a bit. We ordered one hotdog to share, which was surprisingly good! The pretzel bun held together very well and the chili was a nice addition. We saw another waiter arrive during our visit who seemed confused on what to do. Service was super slow, with our hotdog arriving wayyy before the beer my boyfriend ordered. We saw the beer at the bar for the longest time as more drinks were finished and placed next to it. My boyfriend finally flagged the waitress down 20 minutes after our hotdog arriving and she admitted she forgot about everyone's drinks. We were there for about a total of 40 minutes, most of it spent waiting. There was also a crowd forming at the entrance while there were available tables to be filled. I wouldn't be opposed to coming back to try other dishes but wouldn't want to spent more time there than needed due to slow service. 40 minutes for a hotdog and beer is just too much. read more

We rolled in on a Sunday night that was busier than normal for the two servers on the floor. They none the less were attentive and friendly. We ordered and a well timed meal m, that unfolded just when it should. The smells of the kitchen and the friendliness of staff made you feel more at home that a night out. The dishes we ordered were fantastic, to me a well balanced sampling of the menu. If you're on the fence about coming to eat here don't be. Unfortunately, second time around was not a slam dunk. We were sat at a table right where every member of their staff walked by. Next - they are on the Passport but only for entrees $15-$30 but they don't have any entrees in that price point. Finally, instead of just raising the prices on the menu items, they have a mandatory gratuity added to the end of their bill of 10%! Already outrageous prices for the quality of the ribeye and halibut. However, five star service from our waiter. First visit: Went out for a date night on a Friday just before their happy hour ended. Parking is available on the street around the building. Some is pay to park and others are free but it does fill up quickly so you may need to walk in a bit. Located in small commercial building that echoes industrial vibes. Inside was a cozy lo fi vibe with a massive beautiful pizza oven right inside of the door. The host station is right adjacent to the oven and to the kitchen. Almost every table has a view to the outside.The bar is located as the very back of the joint and has a few bar seats available. We ordered their Caesar salad and pickled veggies for appetizers and both were delicious. The drinks were strong, flavorful, and well-balanced. For dinner we ordered the Ribeye and a Pizza. Both were fantastic and I highly recommend them. I will say that I am not sure that the cut I actually received was a ribeye or not. We took our dessert to go and the two we had were fantastic. The menu is on a rotation and so the items I had last month are no longer available. Definitely worth checking out! read more

The services is also best in class, as the wait staff takes great care of us, including our last visit. Went in 4th of July. Was able to get reservations that day. They were busy but service was good. The food was very good and everyone liked their meal. The only issue was one meal came out different than described and was not told when delivered and substitution was slightly less exciting. Seated promptly. Atmosphere was busy partly because street was packed with people and noise for 4th of July and large windows open. But we were still able to talk at the table fine. We got the sugar snap peas with goat cheese for an appetizer. Very tasty. Our orders were salmon, lamb ragu on homemade pasta, ribs and Mac n cheese. Everyone enjoyed the food. Took my daughter here for her birthday. Everything was perfect starting from the beginning with her cocktail to the end. We split the caesar salad which was generous and absolutely delicious. Super disappointing! Went there for Dining Month and at 6:30pm they were out of their $35 option. This seems shady as I was forced to get the $55 option. Of course they would prep less of the cheaper option. 27 days into the month and you can't gauge home much food to make it through dinner. You are open til 10pm and run out of a "once a year, month long special" by 6:30pm? On a Friday!? The hostess seemed to care and went to ask if there was any backup or alternative. She was nice but returned without a solution. I asked the shorter older server guy if I could speak to a manager to discuss my options and he wouldn't get them. Just told me to order from what they do have. I have a toddler and don't get out very often at all was completely put off by this experience. It's been years since I've been there due to budget, but now it will be several more, due to this experience. Oh well, glad there are lots of other restaurants in PDX. Our service was really good, but none of this "charge" goes to the wait staff. Having to tip on top of a 10% charge is just robbery. I asked to speak with the manager to understand the charge (I am from another state) and the guy didn't even have the courage to come to the table. Well. I've been to clarklewis several times and have always had a great meal and experience. We went tonight for burger week. Maybe the waitress was having a bad night or maybe she wasn't a fan of burger week. In any event as we sat on the patio our experience this time was disappointing. She was very unfriendly and some in our party actually thought she was rude. I'm a very big tipper and I hate not leaving at least 20% but sadly tonight we didn't leave much. My family looks forward to our holiday dinner at clarklewis every year! We are a big group, so we really appreciated the private dining space. The food is fantastic, the service is attentive, but not intrusive and the ambience gets us all in the holiday spirit. We've eaten in the main dining room, as well, which is a beautiful complement to the excellent food. Who knew that there was a private dining space on the third floor? Long table and there were 30 of us. Service was great, we had ample parking, food was delicious. Rib eye and mashed potatoes were sooo good- 22 of us ordered the steak- the rest ordered the salmon and said it was amazing. Brought our own wine and paid corkage. Only drawback was when we got there we had to wait in a lobby and couldn't get drinks in the bar before the event. But highly recommend! read more

WOW WOW WOW! Wanted to give Clarklewis another shot for my birthday dinner last night (Aug 3) and I am SO GLAD we did! The weather was perfect for all the doors to be rolled up and what a great experience it was! Being able to hear and see all the movement outside was wonderful. We ordered the Caesar salad (of course exceptional), we ordered the chicken, venison, salmon and pasta for our dinners and we all were VERY VERY happy with our meals, every bite was exquisite. Cooked to perfection and served hot and CHEF'S KISS! We even had time to order dessert (Creme Brulé and Coconut Cake) and I am so HAPPY we had time to enjoy that on this visit, so tasty! Our server (Peter S.) even made sure to include a candle for me, thank you so much. Cocktails were wonderful and the wine was perfect. The only tiny miss on this visit, was the bread came at the end of our meal, which wasn't ideal. We were all full from our dinner and we will DEFINATLEY be back! Thank you all so much. read more
