This is my first pool, so I've been leaning as I go, and I had to trust what I was being told originally. I felt like I spent a lot of money and wasted a lot of time for very little, and their lack of communication was dangerous. I bought a new pool cover from them, which I knew I needed. They installed it, but didn't bother to tell me that they hadn't finished anchoring it because they needed to install some new anchors. I let my dogs out thinking it was secure since they had left without communicating otherwise. My foster puppy ran right across the area that wasn't anchored and easily could have fallen in, gotten trapped, and drown. Thankfully, she jumped off of it right as that anchored corner gave I also had them install a new filter, and they failed to tell me that they hadn't reconnected a pipe after installing it. This resulted in water spraying everywhere in my garage after turning my filter on the first time. Generally speaking when I contacted Matt, he was responsive, but his team repeatedly failed to communicate important information.

I read all the negative reviews but still (by my own terrible judgement) decided to give Colony pools a chance. Why you ask? Because I like to support small local businesses and support them. BIG MISTAKE! When I found out through email that they couldn't keep their scheduled service appointment I called in to verify when they would be able to reschedule. Kevin was aggravated and annoyed that I call and literally said "how many "expletive" (he used the F word) questions do you have? He then hung up on me. I have never been treated so poorly as a paying customer in my life. I honestly hope this review doesn't fall on deaf ears and I am available to answer any questions anyone may have. I don't want to get into how it continued as it really makes me feel really low and upset that I even gave them the opportunity to make right on the bad reviews they have. The owner kylie elom apparently inherited this business from his daddy and obviously doesn't understand what it takes to run a successful business. As he continues this napolionistic and cavalier attitude his gift from his daddy will eventually collapse. He never had to work hard and build a successful business or his reputation so it's easy for him to throw away something he didn't earn. I operate a VRBO and I need unattended service. I'm not there to put the pool cover away, or to make chemical adds between service visits. When I visited the property a couple of months after Colony opened the pool for me, I found the pool cover lying by the side of the pool and not put away (as agreed) and the salt level was not maintained. The skimmer basket and drain covers and other hardware was not in place. The auto leveling equipment was improperly installed and leaked like crazy. I found there was a leak in the pump basket housing and during the diagnosis, the suction side valve was closed and NOT opened afterward causing the pump to overheat the PVC making an even bigger leak. This was fixed and I was billed for the repair (subsequently credited). The pump was disabled to stop the leak and not returned to service after the repair through the rest of the summer. I asked for photos of the repair and it wasn't until after multiple reminders and multiple promises over 6 weeks, that I got photos. When I brought these shortcomings to the management, I was told that there was nothing wrong because the pool isn't green. Further, I was told I was "micromanaging" and "bad-mouthing". I view communicating issues as opportunities for improvement. I'll leave it to the reader's opinion whether these issues should be overlooked by the homeowner or communicated to others.

I was referred to Richards Pool Care by a friend of a family member. I reached out on March 7 when…read moreI was told they would come out the next week to assess the leak in my pool, as well as look at the other work that needs to be done on the pool (it's a big job as I bought the house last year knowing the pool would need work). They finally came out on 3/23 after I contacted them multiple times. Bob, the owner, and Kevin came out and were very nice. They ultimately said that they would try to use their own leak detection equipment to find the leak, but if they couldn't, they would connect me with a leak detection company. After waiting several weeks, they finally said they couldn't come to try to find the leak, so they sent me the info on the leak detection company on May 7, whom I contacted immediately, and they promptly came out within about a week; he said he would send the report over to Richard's. I followed up with Richard's in about a week, and they said they didn't get it and to ask them to resend it. The guy from the leak detection company resent it to Bob directly via text the same day (5/29). I checked with them again on 6/5 stating I was having surgery on 6/29 and wondered if they could come out the second week of July to do the repair. I received a response on 6/15 (after reaching out again in the interim) and was told that I was blocked off the 2nd week of July. I contacted them this week since I hadn't heard when they would be coming out. I received a message yesterday stating that they are busy and they could put me on the schedule for the end of July. I called back, leaving a message (I was very nice as I firmly believe you catch more flies with honey), but I also told them I'm frustrated and not understanding when I was told I would be blocked off the second week of July and now I'm told it's the end of July. Kevin called me back this morning. We were having a nice conversation, and I told him I was frustrated and just trying to understand when I was told I had an appt the 2nd week of July, why I'm now being told it would be the end of July. Bob ended up taking the phone and yelling at me (and I'm not exaggerating; he was horrible) that I could either take the 2 days he had blocked at the end of July or forget it. I told him (again nicely) that I was just trying to understand why I was told mid-June I would be blocked for 2 days the second week of July, and now I'm being told the end of July. He ended up screaming at me that he doesn't want to do the work and hung up on me. While I fully believe they can be nice and do good work based on their other reviews, just know that if they decide you aren't worth it or it's a job they don't want to do (which they don't tell you), then they will keep putting you off for months and then Bob will treat you horribly and finally tell you they don't want to do the work. (Kevin did remain nice the entire time.)
