There was some inexplicable afternoon traffic on I-270, so my navigation led me off on an exit and down backroads. My gas tank was nearly empty, so this Clarksburg Liberty was in a convenient location on the way to Frederick. There was a huge pothole upon entry that was full of water from a recent rain. I paid 3.39 for premium gasoline and filled up nearly the full tank. The gas station was not busy, there were plenty of pumps, and fueling was quick. This location requires you to punch in your five-digit zip code if paying by credit card, which I almost always do. If I were near the area and needed gas, I would stop by this location. read more

My family and I jokingly refer to this gas station as "the creepy gas station" because it can be found on a small one lane road and at night has almost no lighting/visibility. You'll find your usual broken down cars for sale and trash scattered around and the clientele is often worth people watching. For those local to the Clarksburg area, yes, this is THE gas station where a child's body was found in the woods nearby. Historical facts aside, the gas here is cheaper than anywhere else within 10 miles as long as you can pump in the day time. On the property is a restaurant (?) that's basically stashed behind the snack aisle. You have to kind of walk down a corridor and you end up in an open dining area. To be honest it feels like a set from the Walking Dead. If I had to make any recommendations to the management here it's to clean up the exterior and make it more welcoming. Anyone not familiar with this gas station is NOT stopping here at night. Perhaps a surveillance camera or two so people feel safer. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. *BEWARE* used coupon in mail to get oil change, immediately the rude guy in the back, checks the clock and says, "u want an oil change NOW?" It was 4:15pm & their website says they close at 5pm. (Note there are no hours posted ANYWHERE on premises). Then the other guy (also rude) comes up grumbling that if the cover is hard to take off and the oil is piping hot it'll be extra charges. Really? I've NEVER been charged extra for a cover that's bolted into place or my oil being hot!!! He didn't mention at the beginning HOW MUCH these additional charges would be, only after they were done. I will never come back to this place. The older lady behind the counter needs to be fired. I stopped to get gas on my way home. I thought about getting something to eat so I walked inside there were 3 pizza slices in boxes. I couldn't read 2 of the signs, so I opened the top to see what it was. The older lady behind the counter began cussing at me. She said, "Don't you open those god@#$! Pizza boxes! That's not how we do things around here!" DON'T STOP HERE!!!!! After driving for 4 hours we stopped here for gas and restroom break.. No restroom.. Lady let me and daughter use her locked up restroom. MY daughter gave my husband the key when done... She yelled at him abd another man that men's restroom is outside.. It was a nasty dirty port a pot.. No where to even wash hands.. Wish we would have known before we purchased gas. This place would not have got a penny from me. Only gas station off a major highway wuth a convience store but no restroom for travelers. Found Mr. Brian Winkler through a gift certificate we received in the mail (you know those junk mail that start piling up faster than you can settle in your home? joke.:)) For all new-comers to the state of MD, you have to register your out of state vehicle within 60 days, and that, of course includes the state inspection. I called around, getting prices from $59-106. (MD safety inspection stations' "labor hours billed" is regulated, but the labor rate is not- i found this odd- see mva website). Moving on, I called the number and Mr. Winkler gladly set me up for Saturday of that week. Btw, he charges $69 for inspection with certificate. Saturday morning was pouring, and he initially did not want to take it bec he does not do inspections when it's raining. I asked if I could just leave the car and come back later. He agreed. We did, and came back later in the afternoon. While I was out, he called and left me a message about his findings that I needed the break pads and rotors replaced to pass. (104,000 mileage on the car, urban driving plus trips to the mountains:D). I think that was reasonable. I called around (again!) to ask for costs involved with the job. His quote was $100 cheaper than the dealer, so I went back to him. Second trip- I was in at 1:30 and out by 3:30 with certificate in hand. It felt like graduation day. I watched TV in the airconditioned office while waiting. (it was unexpectedly comfortable.) Before I left, he gave me tips on how to beat the crowd at the mva, and where to go. It's difficult to find a trustworthy auto mechanic, and I'm glad we found Mr. Winkler. Highly recommended. read more
