Absolutely amazing people, they lifted my car, did a full inspection of my vehicle and gave me the entire rundown all within a hour

I bought a car out of state, and needed to get an inspection. I called all over. Some never bothered answering the phone. Some were rude and some were expensive . Finally a co worker, recommended I go here. i checked the reviews and I was sold. I spoke with Ernie, who was very professional and set my appointment. The inspection was $80. I got to my appointment and the cashier John, who was very professional, had me fill out paperwork. Told me it might take 1.5 hours. No problem. I strolled over to Marshalls and Panera. Time flew by, in fact it only took 1 hour. And it passed inspection. Luis the mechanic told me , he did a thorough inspection and no issues found. Ill definitely return . read more

I wouldn't even give the 1 rating but Yelp doesn't allow me to do it. Took my motorcycle for a state inspection on a scheduled time, the guy who inspects 'Luis' showed up an hour late. And just when things couldn't get worse, the guy dropped the motorcycle and broke the entire frame around damaging the brakes and several parts and failed me for a petty reason. Got the fix done in the next hour and came back, the guy passed the inspection without even riding the motorcycle. Now when I am trying to get my motorcycle fixed, none of them respond. Neither the Owner 'Aman' nor the guy who dropped the motorcycle 'Luis'. SKIP YOUR TRIP HERE, JUST DON'T GO THERE. read more

I am very pleased with the the folks at "Montgomery Shell". I took my vehicle in for a state inspection and they found a few things the seemed to be leaking. Paid a diagnostic fee to have it all cleaned up. Turned out it was just years of road grime and nothing was wrong. They could have easily said something was leaking and a hose needed to be replaced. I don't usually feel compelled to write reviews but that has changed with my experience with Montgomery Shell. Went in for a state inspection which was moderately priced and was dealt with to my satisfaction. At no point did i ever feel that i was being duped or messed with. HOWEVER the reason that i write this review is because of the customer service provided by James! (the Customer Service rep) In a time where practically nobody in the DMV tries to go above and beyond to help OTHERS (not themselves) James came through big time!! He even stayed with the mechanic after his shift was over to make sure that they did everything possible to fix the only (small) issue with my inspection. He was always patient, friendly and displayed manners that i had almost forgotten about in this day and age. He even offered a ride back to my home as I waited for the repair... This review is not so much for the Service Center (4 stars, solid work) but for James (5 stars!) Please give this man a raise!!! read more

DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Yesterday I left my car for a diagnostic and they damaged my car in the traffic accident. And when I've asked to give me their insurance they said: "Go out from our office." More, they searched inside of my car and my belongings to find my documents (registration and insurance cards). They did it without my permission and even didn't inform me about it. Also, they disclosed my personal information (from registration and insurance cards) to third party without my permission and even didn't inform me about it. My car equipped by video recorder. And I could say they didn't make diagnostic which I've requested but charge me as for full diagnostic. Diagnostic which I've requested requires lifting a car. A simple gas station with a friendly, personal touch. We came in to do a Maryland inspections on our cars -- that one-time, lengthy, costly inspection before they let your car claim a Marylander status. The rules say that a car inspection cannot be done if it is raining, snowing, or otherwise not a perfect-weather day. Really, those are the MD rules. My wife searched around to get our vehicles inspected (as we are moving from Va to Md). Many other shops were either more expensive or could not accommodate our schedules. I took my BMW 335xi here to look into a check engine light. The owner and the mechanic here are excellent in all levels. They are very knowledgeable and their service is superb. I would highly recommend them for any auto repair needs. They are very professional, and go the extra mile to provide excellent service. My car is like new now after they changed my oxygen sensor, and it cost me probably less than 1/3 of what the dealer would have charged me. I am a recent MD resident so I had to go through the inspection to get my car over here. I knew it was going to be a pain in the butt, but luckily my co-worker knew someone that worked here and recommended it to me. When first seeing it, I was a little suspicious and cautious. It's surrounding area may not be the best, but the people that work at the actually auto shop were so helpful and I didn't feel like they were trying to scam me. I did get a bit frustrated because I had to keep my car their over night due to the windshield guy not bringing the correct one, but that wasn't their fault. They gave me as much as of a discount as possible and then also gave me a coupon for a free oil change! I will be recommending this place to others. read more

In short... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! So this review is for scheduling/setting up an appointment and professionalism. I am waiting now to have my inspection done. Yesterday, I swung by this place to make an appointment for an inspection since they were advertising by the road $70 for inspections which was $20 cheaper than my previously scheduled appointment at another place. My appointment was for 9:00 AM this morning or so I thought. I just found out after waiting over a half an hour that my appointment was never scheduled at all! Apparently, they had wanted me to CALL IN because apparently stopping in to make an appointment was not sufficient enough. (Which they never communicated to me!!) The manager blamed ME for this btw. They managed to fit me in anyway which I am thankful for, but they should have scheduled me to begin with. I have to mention too that a couple of the mechanics here have a major lack of personality/rude. When I asked where I was supposed to park one guy shrugged his shoulders and walked away! I made a comment to another employee that I was glad they advertised prices by the road, or I may not have come in. *He then said nothing* There must have been about 3 mechanics in the garage standing around while I was waiting for them to even aknowledge me. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because they were less expensive on inspections than the other places and they are located near a McDonald's which I can hang out and wait in. I am however wasting WAY more time in my schedule than I had planned because of THEIR mistake. If you are in a rush and hate rude people, it's best to AVOID this place at all costs!!! read more

I visited this station yesterday to get my new (used) car inspected. Lev, the inspector there refused to inspect my car b/c it was raining. Instead, he promised that I'd be his first customer the following morning. Lev kept his promise and inspected (and thankfully passed) my car the next day! Lev is a wonderful gentleman that clearly knows whats he doing and David was an absolute sweetheart. Called in because my car was making a fun noise and I was worried something horribly wrong was going on. I was going to make a appointment but James said to bring it in right away and he'd have one of his technicians look at it. Turns out I need new rack and pinion. I was low on cash but James assured me he'd be able to give me a great price and get me back on the road in no time. They even have me a ride home so wouldn't have to wait around while the work was being done as well as picked me up when the work was done. This place is great! We moved here from out of state and needed the Maryland safety inspection to register our car. I was hesitant because from what I read a lot of mechanics will tell you something is wrong just so you will pay them to get it fixed at their garage. This place was HONEST. The inspector Ernie was very friendly and helpful. I had my tail light replaced and he did not upcharge for ordering the part and was honest about the time and cost for labor. He also fit me in the next day even though he was booked up! I left my car there and he did the work when he got a chance and I was able to pick it up in the afternoon. The worst place I ever been, I'll give this 0 stars but sadly it's not allow. I went there to do my inspections, before I came here I went to another place 1 month before this place and this people told me that I have to do more stuff than the other place told me. The stuff they told me wasn't even real, I leave my car with them and they told me they fix it the next day, I went there and pick up my car and pay them, them I try to get my stickers plate and I couldn't do it because LUIS didn't do the paperwork , I went there and ask what's going on, "LUIS" told me he went to the hospital because his brother had a heart attack. Well I said it's okay when you can go and do it, he told me to wait one week. I waited ONE WEEK I even call him, again he told me to wait too more days I waited. He called me and told me everything was ready and the vehicle pass the inspection , so I went to the place to get my stickers plates and they told me they can get Them because my car didn't pass the inspection again I called them and they told me that I pay 300 just for him to check it when he told me that he was goin to fix it for that price. It wasn't even a lot it was 3 parts of the car. So now they don't want to fix my car even though that was the treatment that we make. UNPROFESSIONAL please believe the bad reviews so this or another thing doesn't happen to you. They tell you a lot of parts of the car needs to get fix and it's not true. read more

I travel to Maryland for business very often and was desperate to find a friendly service station that would not rip me off! After being disappointed by most gas stations and repair services in the area, I finally stumbled upon Montgomery Shell, and I am glad I did. The staff is very friendly and go out of the way to see that you are served properly. The convenience store is always clean (even the bathroom was always fresh!). Moreover, the repair staff is knowledgeable and lay out the options for you to decide without forcing extras down your throat which most places tend to. Even the owner, a young entrepreneurial chap named Aman, is very polite and makes extra effort to see that every task is performed satisfactorily and to the customer's delight. I recently visited this station for my vehicle inspection. The inspector Luis Diaz, was very disrespectful, and unprofessional in his interaction with me. Luis made disparaging remarks to me the moment I pulled up for service, and was dismissive when I posed questions to him regarding my vehicle. As a consumer, this constitutes very poor service, and I do not recommend this Shell station. read more

That's a big thing for auto mechanics of this area. + Was accommodated right away during a busy Saturday. + Was explained various types of oil change products (mine is a Honda Accord v6 that required manufacturer recommended synthetic oil) and pricing. + Was offered a very nice 15% discount. + Was served in only 45 mins. ++++ The biggest thing was that the car was ready on the minute they said it would be. I will never go to this station anymore. The mechanics commitment can't be trusted. I have make an appointment for inspection my car, but when I came, they were not ready, asking me to wait 2 or 3 hours. I could not wait then I cancel it. The next day I make an appointment again. And when I came at the time of appointment, it happened again, the mechanic was not ready, and asked me to wait 1.5 or 3 hours. Of course I could not wait again. They don't understand what commitment or appointment is. read more

Caused me to waste $200 on inspections and several hours of my time. 1st inspection Failed for two items Took me ~two months to fix items - car only driven to and from inspection station/shop(under 20 miles total) 2nd inspection Shows up to appointment 20min late and keeps car for over an hour. Fails on three new items. One being that he cannot road test the car due to the temporary registration being expired. The registration was expired during first inspection and was not an issue for him then. I'm told that there is no way for them to perform the road test, and I will have to bring the car somewhere else. $70 down the drain. 3rd inspection (new place a few days later) You'd think that the car would pass now that it has been inspected twice, and all repairs have been made. WRONG. The car is failed for two new items (rear view mirror and taillights) that have been on the car from day 1. Bring your car next door where things are done by the book, better customer service, and it's cheaper. read more

I have taken my car in for oil changes, auto repairs and for inspection. I love the fact that I can drop off my car and that the service is completed as promised.
